From the moment we walked in the girl who seated us was unpleasant and couldn't smile or tell us some one would be right with us. The waitress was also no smile and not friendly. She was only there to take our order. When it was time to pay she gave me the total due. No printed receipt and when I asked for one she was snippy. Been going here off and on the past few years, and have very mixed feelings on this place, I live super close to it and want to support local businesses, but it just gets worse every time I visit. First off the good, the food is usually not bad, the combo board is great probably my favorite thing here and it has a great variety of things on it. I also like the pretzels, and the waffle churros are very good. It's (usually) pretty clean inside, and has a lot of seating. And they're open late which is a huge plus since everywhere seems to be closed by 8 or 9. Only real negative experiences I've had with the food other than some things listed below was a cheese pizza I got and a pot pie I had on my first visit. The pizza was just mushy and soggy and didn't taste all that great, and the pot pie was ok but something tasted off about the cream, might've just been the night. But the real problem with this place is and always has been the staff, and just being very poorly run and disorganized in general. On an average visit I'll walk in, it'll be very slow, and I'll be ignored for a good 5 minutes or more. Staff walking by looking and seeing me or my guests and not acknowledging us at all. Makes you think it's seat yourself but there's never a sign anywhere saying that. For the most part the servers are ok as far as being polite, they're just very inattentive, kinda feel like you've been forgotten sometimes, and refills can be hard to get. Most of the time if you have a question about something whoever you've asked gets confused and has to talk to another staff member that is usually equally unsure. And they constantly mess up to go orders, which is a big problem when people like my mom who has food allergies are getting something, cause you never know if it's safe. The burgers are usually burnt when ordered to go, and foods that have been brought to their attention as things people are allergic to are routinely left on the orders. The worst experience I've had here was when I had called in an order for pick up at night, I wasn't quite 21 and was just taking foot home for my dad and I. I got to the place to find the front door locked, and then a security guy saying I had to go in through the entrance to the courtyard between the different establishments. He asked for my ID, I said I wasn't 21 and wasn't drinking and that I was just picking up a to go order, and he said he couldn't let me in. Like what? I've already placed an order that's supposed to be ready, and I can't pick it up? After arguing with him for 30 seconds he said he'd talk to the manager of the place and see if an exception could be made (wow lucky me..), finally came back and said I could go to the front door and meet the host and pick up my food inside, which was apparently being used as a ridiculously loud makeshift dance club. I have a hearing injury that makes me especially sensitive to incredibly loud noises, and while everyday noise is fine, but this was louder than any concert I've ever been to, but you know I'm just picking up my food and leaving so it should be fine won't be there that long, except the food hadn't even been started yet. So now I have to sit at the host stand while my ears get blown out waiting for my food, which took over 45 minutes. So now that I'm just totally dead from the speakers I finally get my food and leave, and it ended up being one of the more lousy experiences as far as food quality goes, very undercooked and soggy pizza, and a burnt burger. And my ears were screwed up and ringing for over a month. It's like everything bad that could have happened did happen. I haven't been back cause I'm honestly still a little traumatized from my ears getting screwed. This isn't meant to tear down or trash the place, I know I'll probably get a snarky passive aggressive or insulting reply, but these are just my honest experiences with Union. But I genuinely hope they can do better and improve their service cause I love supporting local business and good food, especially when they're in the neighborhood. read more

I have tried giving union many chances and the service just gets worse and worse. I sat at the bar for 10 minutes and received no service. The bartender went to 2 people who arrived after me. Had a great dinner there last night. A busy, yet fun restaurant. We ordered the cauliflower appetizer that was huge and tasty. We split the "share board" that had a wide variety of flavors and hit the spot. Our drinks were spot on. Went on a Saturday afternoon... It was very peaceful, not too busy but steady. While the host was seating us, she asked she server if the table was ok, they said yeah... Then right in front of us, pushed us off to another server. Very rude... I mean, don't get me wrong, I've done that too a million times....... But never right in front of the table. Our server was nice, attentive. But really had no clue about drinks or the menu. I really wanted the steak, but I really couldn't see myself eating it all at lunch... So I settled on the chicken sandwich. I guess I skipped a part, so this is one of those places that think they're food is sooo good, they don't need to put salt on the table. While I can appreciate the idea, realistically ppl are addicted to their condiments. I don't think they even seasoned the chicken, it was so bland, I needed salt. Server didn't come to check on us for some time, finally flagged someone down after 10 minutes and my food was cold. But luckily my kids food was amazing!!! We got the not kids menu Mac and cheese... And it was so good I was really debating on eating it all. I ordered bacon, but got the ham (remember server didn't check on us so I ended up just eating it) but I can only assume bacon would of been so much better!!! Hubs got chicken and waffles, his complaint is chicken with bones in is too much work. But food was very good. My complaint, maple syrup was watery thin. Good beer menu. Management walks around dropping food and bring menus to the front... But never smile, or thank guests... Kinda weird, observed 2. Overall, I'll probably come back if in the neighborhood. Union looks to provide their take on American food by doing it with great ingredients and making sure you've got a great cocktail in hand to help wash it down. We like to make Union either our first stop or last stop on a night out. My favorite part of Union is that it's just a classy place to grab a drink with friends. It's got just the right mix of upscale but not "uppity", so that you can feel comfortable but still feel like you are actually having a night out. My best advice is to go for happy hour and share some appetizers and a round of mules. If you order dinner just be warned the portions are big and filling so you may want a nap afterwards. read more

i started this past Saturday attending the the live dinner band event and had a couple of drinks and dancing with a few friends. The outdoor event and seating were tremendous and made for a very enjoyable evening. the friendliness and professionalism of the restaurant staff and security personnel were added and welcomed, appreciated bonuses! However there was one thing that placed a damper on the whole evening. First I would like to say that I've been coming here for 7 years plus. During the end of COVID we were often the only people on the patio to support the music and the restaurants. Up until last summer I would have given 5 stars. The service was incredible. Food was very good. About 2 years ago they started refusing to seat unless 1/2 of group was here. OK that was reasonable. Then they would not seat on the patio until 6pm. This is after happy hour, a big thing for retired people. One of our party was told we could sit on patio but had to go to the bar until 6pm whenn table service. At 6pm we were moved to a high top from that table but could put out names on list for a table with service. We got the table for service 20 minutes later, 2 tables from the first one. The manager assured us that the person that had said that would be disiplined. About 1/3rd of the tables are empty. We then were told that we couldn't have our heater lit because it was over 60 (62). Reason was 'too expensive' The service is as good as it can be with half the servers in a larger area. Food isn't bad but bar is barely adequate unless you want beer or wine. Prices are on the high side. We used to come with 30 people, tonite 3 ventured out to see if things have changed. We have a 55+ social club and this place is not senior friendly. We will be back next year to check it out again. They have a beautiful venue for music and several of our favorites play here but under the circumstances a senior group is not made welcome. Remember as a kid when the school would host a carnival and they'd serve the worst hamburgers and fries? Somehow Union Public House has captured that flavor with their Union Burger. In what can only be described as a culinary marvel, they combine bacon jam, pickled onions, and cheese into a dish that truly tastes like nothing. I can only describe this burger as calorically dense. Staff are friendly but clearly overwhelmed. I've been here 5 times in the last decade and it's never been good. The drink menu with the most extensive bottled beer menu I've seen in a long while was very much appreciated. So many bars have reduced bottled beer to nothing, promoting craft draft beer. I'm a lager-bottle person and Union House had multiple choices. Unlike others on here, I dislike the food. Most offerings had 'odd' things with the use of pickled vegetables on pizza and lots of feta or goat cheese. We found hummus plate and mac&cheese that I liked. I wish they had some ordinary flatbreads like margarita pizza or mozzarella cheese and various raw vegetables...besides beets. The chicken sandwich looked pretty ordinary but they add smoked aioli. How about LTO and Mayo instead? Bacon is tossed in too often, which I'd leave off but I'm betting price would be the same. It's definitely in the higher price sandwich end and I wish they had more choices for those of us with a less gourmet pallet as we like the venue. Waitstaff were good. read more

Meh. We went in at ten pm and were excited that the full menu was still an option. We all kept vegetarian: I had a veggie burger (Beyond Burger brand-- strangely meaty texture but a bit bland? Nicely moist though), polenta cakes (great difference in textures), and margherita pizza (pretty good). I had a Moscow Mule that was very light. It was all fine. The nicest part was having options at that hour and having a range of outdoor seating option-- couch, fire pit or not, table). Heads up though: if you're in a rush, the service took a LONG time. This place is a great spot in Tucson, and a decent sports bar with plenty of tv's surrounding the inside. The food is great as are the drinks. Our server was exceptional, but what was not exceptional is the front of house. No disrespect to teenagers who hustle or even young college students trying to make ends meets-but there is just no other way to put it than say the front of house are lazy at greeting/assisting their customers. No effort in helping me find a decent spot to sit, it was a hands off approach which was off putting to say the least. And as we were leaving, about six or more of them were congregating at the front and not one of them could bother to stop their gossiping and chatter to say goodbye and thank us for stopping in. If you're the owner, ya gotta talk to your staff because they're really falling flat when it comes to hospitality, especially your hostesses. Would I recommend this place? Really awesome place! My boyfriend and I found Union Public House on yelp one night when we were looking for a place to have dinner and drinks in Tucson and we had a great time here! This place had a really trendy vibe, decor was really pretty and the bar was awesome. Lots of TVS to watch sports on which we both enjoyed. They had a really unique and trendy menu, with an unbelievable whiskey selection. We were more in a drinking mood so we just had some drinks and appetizers. We shared a pizza that was bomb and I a side salad that was really fresh and delicious. Great food and drinks, and the bartenders were all really helpful and friendly. I've been here too many times to count, so I decided it was finally time to post a review. This was the very first place I went to with friends when I moved to Tucson. Since that time, it has been a popular hangout spot. Usually this occurs on a Wednesday for whiskey Wednesday. I like getting whiskey with lemonade. They also have a pretty good happy hour menu. Saturday nights at union are fun too. I usually get one of their cocktails on the weekends. The service is great most of the time. I remember ordering a Mac and cheese once. I was busy catching up with friends so I didn't notice how long it was taking, but when they brought it out the waiter apologized and said they would take it off the bill. Good customer service! The biggest appeal is likely its convenient location. Sometimes parking can be an issue, but being so central it's a place that most people can agree on. read more

I drank a Dark and Stormy from a copper cup (seriously, it makes the drink taste better!!) and I drank some blue concoction with a giant ice ball in it! So cool! And delicious- they do not skimp on the alcohol here! The night we went it was a little crowded. In fact, when we left there was a line out the door with people just waiting to get in. While we waited for our table they played Coldplay and jazz. A real good mix of everything. Unfortunately, we were seated at the very back of the place and couldn't hear them at all when we sat down. Speaking of sitting down, the travel to our table was quite the adventure. I must have rubbed my butt on the back of 10 chairs that night! We arrived around 4 pm in the afternoon & sat at the bar, but every time we've been here it's at least 10-15 minutes before we are acknowledged. Once they do acknowledge us they are nice, but still take a long time to get our draft beer. They don't even look around to see if anyone new has showed up. My wife and I thought this would be a pretty nice spot for a date with the live music going on outside, but I can honestly say I've never been so disappointed in a restaurant. The one-star review is strictly on the service alone because we didn't even get to the point of ordering food. First of all, they don't accept reservations which is completely understandable especially on a night where there will be live music. We elected to join the wait list online which estimated the wait to be 30-45 minutes. Twenty minutes later we receive a text message saying our table is ready and to please see the host or hostess now. We were about 5 minutes away still, so we hurried along. About 2 minutes later we receive another message saying we'll be losing our spot in line if we don't check in withing 2 minutes. I dropped my wife off at the front so she can check us in while I looked for a parking spot. When I walked in, I was surprised to find my wife sitting inside when we knew we wanted to sit outside. My wife told me that upon check in the host let us know it would be a 20-minute wait for a table but once she showed him the text, he said he could seat us. She asked to sit outside to which she was told it was another 45-minute wait, so she opted to sit inside. The confusing thing is that there were 6 tables outside that were free the entire 45 minutes we were inside. After we put in our order for drinks and appetizers, we were told there would be a 20-minute wait before we can put in our order for food. We waited about 10 minutes for our appetizers which were just ok and the cocktails (Chingadera, and life is a beach) were horrible! Then our waitress let us know there would be an additonal 20-minute wait for us to put in our order. At this point I asked for the check. How can a restaurant be accepting more and more guests when their kitchen isn't even caught up on a busy weekend? The manager came by to apologize and let us know he's taking care of the appetizers and asked if we'd like an additional round of drinks on the house which was a very nice gesture, but we were over it. I told him to please just let us sit outside and I'll be happy to pay for all the food, we just want to watch the live music. He also let me know those tables are reserved which is extremely confusing to me because they don't accept reservations.... WTF?! I paid for my drinks only and we left. I really wanted to like this place. We didn't even get to taste the main course but from what I'm reading on the reviews.... we didn't miss much :-( read more

This is my neighborhood bar. Literally walking distance. This place can get pretty interesting as it relates to the people that come in, probably one of the more diverse bars that I have been to in Tucson. You have your 60+ that come in for lunch/brunch/early dinners. On Wednesday's and Friday's the place gets packed with your 30 somethings and on Sunday's you get your families and couples. I would much rather have this be my local bar other than the majority of the places I have been in Tucson... As well, I have brought my work teams here a couple times for dinner, all of the experiences have been solid. Whether or not I am spending $500 for dinner with my team or $20 on an individual meal and a drink, I can say that I have been satisfied with the service. read more

Surrounded by 2 other restaurants with a large courtyard in the center, and several tables for outdoor dining. Masks required until you get to your table, and heaters for the cold weather. We opted to sit in the courtyard area to get a better view of the live band playing. The band was great, they played a little bit of everything. I would say because of the band we didn't mind that we had to wait approximately 15 minutes or more, before we even saw our waitress. This, only after we flagged down a hostess to advise her that we hadn't been acknowledged by one. The food was delicious! We split the New York strip meal, and it was a perfect portion between the two of us. Cocktails, I opted for the Gin Germain-it tasted like cleaning solution. I wouldn't order this again! In fact, it was the only cocktail we ordered and decided to go next door to the Mexican restaurant for a second round. For a Saturday night it was pretty busy, so I can forgive the lack of service and attention we received as guests here, however I think I the management needs to have more wait staff working outside because of this.
