Love everything I've had here. One of the few places I feel like trying something new each time cuz nothing's failed me so far. Only thing is I wish Eugene's szechuan places included rice with entrees, but this place is tops when it comes to chinese food here. Used to love Kung Fu bistro, but ever since they served me day-old-tasting takeout during the big covid shutdown, I haven't been able to get over the utter betrayal. Finding this place has filled that hole in my heart again. To date, I've enjoyed: Spicy Fried Chicken - Really my favorite Szechuan goodie. Such an addictive flavor! We pick through the chili at the end for every little tasty crunchy bit lol. Spicy Bean Jelly: so fun to eat and tasty! The last time I had it here though, it was painfully spicy... Would like it if they toned down the spice to something not so aggressive. Great as long as you have non-spicy things to alternate bites with, like cucumber salad! Beef pancake roll: really tasty, though it's only an appetizer. Could have eaten a whole mealful of these. Griddle Cooked Beef: Super yummy, highly recommend. So many authentic Chinese dishes on the menu. Everything I've ever tried here is packed with flavor. If you want typical Oregon Chinese food you might be disappointed, but if you're adventurous enough to eat something you'd more likely find in China, this is the place to go. I had food delivered because I was not feeling like being in public. So I cannot speak to service or ambiance. The food was mostly ok. It didn't wow me, but it also wasn't bad. I ordered a lot as I'd never eaten there and wanted to make sure I found something I liked. I'm a huge fan of egg drop soup when done well. This looked promising but had zero flavor. I'm not sure how they did that. I tossed it. The shrimp wontons were the best of all that I ordered, lots of flavor. Saved those leftovers. The cream cheese wontons were about what you would expect but a little overly salty. They were delivered in a plastic container which lead to them being less than crispy, but presumably in the restaurant this would be a different outcome. I ate them all. Lastly, General Tso's chicken. I have a feeling that many people would really like this dish, but for me it fell really short. I will say, I liked the option of ordering noodles instead of rice (which I did). To me the dish was incredibly too sweet. Like sugar chicken. Each piece of chicken was also heavily battered and fried. This of course made the chicken crunchy and tasty, but I primarily got batter. There were some pieces with seemingly no chicken at all inside. The larger pieces were good, but I would say the ratio of batter to chicken was about 50/50 on the larger pieces. Personally, I don't feel the chicken needed batter at all, but that is just my preference- I do think a lot of people would like this dish. It just wasn't for me. The noodles were gummy. I love beef noodle soup but this one did not have that smell that screamed beef noodle soup. The broth was decent but I feel like it was majority just fish sauce. The meat however was very tender and delicious--Great big portions. The bok choy for both beef noodle soup and dan dan noodle was so limited... half a bok choy in each dish. It was a mother daughter special occasion. We ordered spring rolls, spicy fried shrimp and General Tso's chicken. When we started we were told that rice is separate charge. No problem, we asked for rice for two. We were given chop sticks with assumption that everyone uses chop sticks. I asked for fork and it was provided. The chicken was hard and chewy and tasted old. It was served hot and sweet but it was not spicy as the menu indicates (tasted like orange chicken). Shrimp was done well with lots of fried red dried pepper that didn't make any sense (equivalent of half a cup of fried red dried pepper). Everything that one asks for beyond the price of the meal is extra (take out box for leftover, payment by card, and the receipt given in print (receipt does not include breakdown of meal). I paid the bill on counter ($ 43.47 + 6.52 in tip) and we left. This was our first time at uniquely chengdu. In my view if you don't mind paying extra and don't care for service and are fine with occasional dry meat and lack of flavor it is a decent place. read more

Didn't even occur to me that making the drive over to Uniquely during a weekday afternoon could possibly be challenging. Totally slipped my mind that we are a big college town and there would be students galore. Luckily, Uniquely has designated parking which is quite convenient on a visit such as this. I ordered the Mopo Tofu. Which I have never had before and it was very very delicious. Although I forgot to order rice with it so I had to supply my own. Worth it though. I also ordered the noodles with bean paste but, wow, is this dish spicy. And I love spice! I love some heat! But this dish was so spicy I had to put my chopsticks down and retire the dish to the fridge. It's still there. I am trying to figure out a way to still eat it but maybe by dulling the heat down a little. Stopped in here on a weekduring lunch hour and the restaurant was clean and with plenty of seating. We have two specific dishes we love from our favorite Chinese restaurant in Gresham (Schezuan Kitchen), and look for them everywhere: sesame chicken and green beans. Though not exactly the same, they were the best we've had outside of there yet, and will see definitely be back for more! Be aware!! You maybe the lucky one got "custom fee" on your bill! It's been a long time that I haven't walked into this restaurant. The service was not like before. Now it is more like self-service. I'm fine with it. The food was fine. But, after I received the bill, I saw a "custom fee" for $1. I asked the cashier what the fee was for. She said, "It's for the (small) to-go box." I asked again, "You charged for a to-go box?" She said,"Yes. We do. $0.50 per box." I never got charged this fee from other restaurants. Since she insisted, I just paid for it with tips. I thought this was a new policy for the restaurants around the campus area (because I didn't get charged when I went to other restaurant the day before). However, after asking couple people, I realized I was the only one got charged. I gave the 5-star review because the local small restaurant does have its right to charge whatever they think is appropriate. Nice, casual, and authentic. A no fuss spot with super yummy noodles, and wontons. I got the spicy noodles and definitely underestimated how spicy they were but was pleasantly surprised to get a very hot bowl of food. My lips were happily numb - but if you are not a big spice fan I would look elsewhere on the menu. The shrimp wontons in chili oil tasted fresh and were hearty. I also had the cucumber salad which was alright - it helped to cool the heat but it was something that could've easily been made at home. The woman at the counter is very nice and greeted me as soon as I entered. We ordered the Chengdu meat steam pot which included kelp, tripe, cauliflower, celery, wood ear mushrooms, etc. we got the medium spice level, although we were tempted to get the spicy spice level. Being spice connoisseurs, the medium spice level surely satisfied our craving for that unique mala numbing sensation. Of course, I had my extra bag of mala in my purse (like always 24/7 just in case), however we learned quickly it was not needed because the spice was so right. The dumplings were really good and the sauce had fresh cut strips of ginger. The honey green milk tea was super refreshing on this hot summer day. Service was friendly and quick. It was delivered quickly and while unpacking my meal I noticed what seemed like the smell of rancid oil. I don't have a great sense of smell, so I assumed perhaps I was mistaking the smell of sesame oil--although I've never had that problem before. I plated my food and quickly discovered each item had been cooked in oil rancid enough the rancid flavor overpowered everything else. I'm sad to say this was my first time ordering f I'm Uniquely Chengdu and I won't be ordering from them again--and I recommend you don't either. read more

So happy to find a local spot for some great authentic Szechuan / Chinese food :) Everything tasted great and service was good; the server who was looking after everyone in the restaurant was also hosting, bussing tables, taking phone orders, and handling the cash register at the same time! I'm kind of amazed that we have such a good Szechuan place down the street from campus, where many of the restaurants are so-so. The very first visit I made, years ago, I ordered something kind of boring (my bad) and didn't quite realize how solid this place is. I returned a couple times recently and I think it's one of the better restaurants in town. Absolutely enormous menu, mostly for meat-eaters, but lots of options for us vegheads too. The griddle-cooked cauliflower is a treat. It comes out sizzling in a flamey hot pot: cauliflower, potatoes, green beans, celery, and fermented beans in red spicy oil. Pro tip: It's enough food for two and VERY oily, so when you take your leftovers home, leave a few florets in the bottom. Recently I also tried the eggplant with green beans, yum. And I always get the black fungus salad. I'm not sure where they find woodears that fresh. Covered in a nice salty dressing with just enough Szechuan peppercorns for that fun numbing feeling. Yum. Someday I would love to see a Eugene Chinese restaurant that serves food from a different part of China (they're all Szechuan I think?) but until then, this is my go-to spot. read more

Ordered to go a few times and the food is pretty good! I really have a hard time finding Asian food that isn't drowning in sauce or too Americanized. The dishes are pretty flavorful and the seasonings is there! I tried intestines for the first time and surprised how delicious it was! We also ordered the beef soup that the meat just melted and super soft, we also got some dumplings that was ok, the dough was a tad bit thick, but not sure if they make in house or not, but wasn't my favorite. People back in Salem don't believe me when I tell them that Eugene has some legit authentic Chinese food due to University of Oregon's sizable Chinese International Student population. Most Chinese food I've encountered outside of the two-three square blocks in the Inner Richmond in San Francisco or the Lower East Side in Manhattan have usually fallen under one of two categories: (1) "Chinese" food that neither resembles Chinese food in appearance nor tastes like Chinese food. (See, e.g., "American Chinese food") (2) "Chinese" food that actually looks like Chinese food, but tastes nothing like it because they either used American ingredients or cooked in conformity of acceptable American culinary mores. (See, e.g., "Upscale / Fusion 'Chinese' Food") However, there have been some surprising pockets of American communities where the Chinese food being served actually meets my simple criteria of actually looking and tasting like Chinese food, and it seems that against all odds, Eugene, OR is one of them. The 水煮魚 (gangsta casserole, murder style), 清炒白菜 (stir-fried bok choy), and 紅油抄手 (wontons in hot chili oil) at Uniquely Chengdu almost made me regret not applying to UO instead of Willamette, or biting the bullet and going to Hastings instead. Too full and happy to write an actually relevant and detailed review about the food, except that it's been a long time since I've actually voluntarily fed myself until I was this full and not regretted the decision later on. read more
