Chili Spicy Fried Chicken and Spicy Beef Noodle Soup - both very good!!

This place really surprised me! For a place so close to campus, I expected at-best-average-Americanized Chinese food. What I got was pretty authentic Chengdu food. I got the spicy fried chicken which had plenty of meat (vs just breading), really good flavor, wish it was spicier but it was crispy and tasty. The spicy beef noodle soup was also rich in umami flavor, a tad too salty for me personally but the beef was tender, the noodles had a nice bite and the broth was pleasant. All in all, I'd like to return and try their other dishes. Well done, Uniquely Chengdu! Their prices are also very good.

The pork nap was meh but the double cooked pork was really good. Clean restaurant. Looks more like a take out place than a sit down. They do have reserved parking spots in the back which was nice.

I had a friend of mine recommend that I try braised eggplant, which is their favorite dish from the Sichuan culture they grew up in. The picture they sent me looked so good, I immediately began scouring the local Eugene restaurants for this dish to try. Enter: Uniquely Chengdu. The chef behind the quaint restaurant on East 13th Ave learned his craft in the capital of China's Sichuan province, which is Chengdu. He's started at just 19 years old and has been perfecting his craft for 26 years. You can certainly taste his dedication with anything you order from Uniquely Chengdu. My favorite dish has to be what my friend told me to try: the braised eggplant with garlic sauce. The sauce is so delicious you won't want to waste a single drop (I poured the rest over rice) and the eggplant is cooked to tender perfection. I've tried many other dishes from their menu as well, like their delicious honey walnut shrimp for instance, and you really can't go wrong with anything you order. If you want a genuine taste of Chengdu, definitely stop by and eat some food from a chef who's mastered Sichuan's unique flavors from the source!

Ordered the vegetable buns and got pure bun no vegetable! So not cool. I'm really disappointed . I would love a refund but not sure if I'll get one.

There doesn't seem to be many Sichuanese spots in Eugene so it was cool to find this spot. I tried the Mapo Tofu and Sichuan grilled fish here. The Mapo Tofu was pretty decent. Not the best, not the worst. I think it could've been spicier and more numbing. The grilled fish was good too but very very salty. I also expected the grilled fish to come out bubbling like it's usually supposed to but it didn't. Seemed pre-cooked and not fresh. Still, the flavors were all good enough for me to be willing to come back! Service was quick and the ordering process was easy. I think it costs extra to get a box to go so consider bringing your own container! They are very environmentally conservative!

Went to this Chinese restaurant recently. Overall, it was good but pretty average. The food was decent and came out hot, but nothing really stood out flavor-wise. Service was fine, and the place was clean. It's a solid spot if you're craving Chinese food and want something quick and reliable, just don't expect anything out of the ordinary.

Short: this place is a gem of Chinese food! Absolutely delicious, flavorfully authentic, and steaming hot! I've ordered through GH a few times prior to a physical visit to the restaurant. The interior is spacious and you quickly get greeted. Menus are out the window and the first thing when you walk in. Service was quick and efficient. [Food & Cost] I ordered kung pao chicken with noodles, part of their daily lunch specials. [$13]. Having worked in a Chinese restaurant for a few years I'm very familiar with my favorite. Yes, it sometimes can be on the oily side, but its piping hot, deliciously made. Plus I can hear the wok in the back. [Quick Note] When I was dining, I saw a few ladies hand-making some dumplings, so you know it's fresh and delicious food! Honestly, overall, Uniquely Chengdu is not only a take-out favorite but a Chinese favorite for me!

We have the general's chicken with noodles and it was served hot. Great taste it's our second time here ordered the same thing both times. And staff was very nice.

I ordered take out. The hot and sour soup was very good. The vegetable steam pot contained few veggies and had things like tripe and pork and shrimp which was an unpleasant surprise. Maybe it was just a mistake. Good soups for when you have a sore throat. Big portions. Would try again.

We were craving for Asian food after having American food for all of our meals for all 3 days. I was a little hesitant finding a good Asian, let alone a Chinese, restaurant within Eugene, OR. Based on Yelp reviews and recommendations, we ended trying out Uniquely Chengdu. This place is a bit of self-service and party with dine-in service. All the patrons have to write down their own orders and take it to the front counter. Understandable, given the limited number of staff in the restaurant. The lady sever was very nice and did great in getting our food served quickly. We actually thought it was too quick! Hahaha I especially liked the grilled fish on the hot griller. I miss eating spicy food. It was amazing how they had so much items in the dish with the fish: tofu skin, celery, tripe, seaweed, mushroom ears, cauliflower, and French fries. It was delicious. The cumin lamb was also a hit with the adults. The kids loved the veggie fried rice and XioLimgBao (steamed dumplings). My younger son devoured the beef noodle soup. He can eat a whole serving on his own. The kids also ordered from their Asian blended drinks. Most of them got the mango Yakut. They wanted the brown sugar drink but they ran out :( Overall, this is a great place to get good Chengdu cuisine and if your craving for something spicy. Maybe you can ask for the dishes to be a little bit spicier if you love spicy food. The spice level was very mild for my tastebuds.

Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - spicy beef noodle soup (D4) and spicy hotpot noodle soup (D9). The food was good overall but the chili oil does cover the taste of the broth a bit. We were slight confused by the raw SPAM like protein in the hotpot soup as it didn't quite fit the rest of the dish. Ambience: 4/5 - spacious shop with large windows that lets you people watch as you enjoy your meal. The store does feel older or the decorations isn't kept up well. Service: 2/5 - only one lady managing the front of the store but she disappears to the back quite often. When we walked into the shop we weren't quite sure if we were supposed to order at the front or sit at a table so we awkwardly stood and waited for about 2/3 minutes before she came back to the front. After we sat, she gave us a little pad and told us to write down what we wanted then walked away. There's a sign that says they're trying to save paper so pay at the cash register. We stood for about 3/4 before she came back up to address us. As I went through the payment process, I tried to input my phone number to get a receipt and she cancelled or rushed the prompt which doesn't allow me to finish the process. I then asked for a physical receipt and she became a bit flustered trying to state they don't print receipts. She did end up providing a copy! Value for price: 4/5 - decent food, reasonable price, but didn't quite care for the service.

I tried ordering on the phone and the woman who picked up didn't understand my question that I was asking "which was what time does lunch end," so instead I decided to go inside and look for myself. It was empty with no one in there so I thought I would get my food within a reasonable amount of time. I didn't because the woman who took my order was eating herself and forgot to put my order in, so it took around 40 mins which was a pain. Overall the food was alright, but service was even worse. They also lied about their prices which is another heads up. They weren't sanitary either with the examples of coughing in their hands and picking out food from their mouths and NOT WASHING THEIR HANDS AFTERWARDS! I should've walked out immediately after that happened when I was eating. PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU DO DECIDED TO GO HERE! read more

Food was delivered warm. Best part of all of it. But the flavor was absolutely disgusting. I don't recommend unless you're absolutely starving. All bad. Orange chicken is maybe the safest option?? Maaaaaybe!??? Everything else on my very expensive order went into the trash. I wouldn't feed to a dog. read more

Some food arrived cold/lukewarm and was a food safety hazard. Broccoli beef had raw vegetables and rubbery tasteless beef that seemed like it had been out too long or thawed too fast. Not sure. But very bad experience and will not order again. Sucks when you spend $60 on food that somebody didn't take the time to properly prepare. I am a cook and I understand how it is, but dang! read more

Best asian food in Eugene, Oregon ever. Most of my friends come all the way from portland to eat here. Lots of tasty option Friendly and super clean environment. Even if you don't know what to order, they will help you a lot on what to pick. Even the french fries test different. Soups are amazing Beef orders are beyond tasty. After touring University of Oregon on 3/26/18 my husband, step daughter, and I was feeling a bit hungry. There were lots of cafe's and restaurants located within the University. We saw at least 4 Chinese restaurants..lol...and of course chinese food was the choice of my step daughter. We ordered the sesame chicken. It was cooked at a crisp which made it delicious. We also ordered shrimp fried rice. It tastes like the rest. Lastly we got the braised pork belly....that was good with a hint of sweetness. So the restaurant is an old looking place. When we first stepped in, i see only chinese family eating. We were greeted and sat us down immediately. After us was a group of 4 Chinese students but apparently they were served before us and we were first to arrive. That's a star deduction right there. The other deduction is that they could improve the look of the place. Id still come back tho...staff was nice and not rude. Happy Eats!!! read more

I like to try small restaurants, and this one did not disappoint. The hostess was extremely nice, and very helpful when it came to making my culinary choices. I tried the Dundun noodles and the crab bao, with a green tea to wash it down. The prices were along the lines of anywhere next to the university. Food came rather quick, and nice and hot! Do not diner here! Your money worth something better! Food unclean. Kitchen stuffs use their hands to grab food and put into their mouths before letting servers bring food out to customers. Awful owner. The most horrible owner I've ever seen. Almost all employees last less than one month because the owner treats employees sooo badly. Most employees can't stand the owner. Employees are treated like sh*t and being insulted for ridiculous reasons. Very arrogant, uneducated, and rude owner. Just don't eat here. read more

Bomb.com. Very authentic Chinese food. I almost don't know what to order there most the time because I dunno what to get. I think it's absolutely amazing, everything that I have ordered did not disappoint. My husband and friend ordered a cold weird dish that wasn't my jam but I blame that on my palate not the restaurant. I would most definitely recommend. The have a big selection of authentic items. I guess they recently changed their name to Wheat Bay - I went there several times when it was Uniquely Chengdu (honestly both are pretty terrible names, but hey). Ambiance - Black paint and wood colored chairs, a diner of sorts; the kind you'd expect from near the university. There are usually a lot of Chinese U of O students eating here, which probably means something. Either KPOP or Chinese Pop and bright-ish lights that work well with the black paint job of the interior. The restaurant is also very warm - not sure why, but it didn't bother me. Food - Pretty good. I usually get the Kung Pao Chicken (great sauce) and the beef pancakes. The food is absolutely authentic Chinese, not the garbage you'd get from Safeway or Panda Express. No complaints at all, the portion size is good and the prices are average. I really wanted some spicy chicken and this place satisfied. The only problem was that I wanted a hot tea and ordered tea, but what they gave me was actually an iced sweet black tea - no harm no foul, but the menu could be clearer. Service - There is or was some white guy who speaks dang near fluent Chinese, which was pretty impressive. The other staff? Eh, they're obviously Chinese immigrants but their service skill is kind of lacking, lots of blank stares and miscommunication. I can forgive it, at least they're actually Chinese people who might care about the place's reputation. I never felt any resentment or unease about eating there. A decent local spot for some pretty good Chinese if you're fiending for some classic Chinese take out on the weekend. read more

This place exceeded my expectations! Shared the Griddle Cooked Boneless Chicken Wings and Shrimp Dumplings in broth with a friend and it was so flavorful and the perfect amount of spice and had leftovers. Other friends ordered Tofu in Chili Oil and General Tso's Chicken and everything was really delicious. It's a little more expensive than your average lunch on campus, but well worth it in my opinion. read more

We were visiting family in Eugene & asked them to recommend some good Chinese food. This place did not disappoint. Great menu variety. We had egg rolls, potstickers, General Tso's Chicken, and Szechuan chicken with noodles. All delicious. Service was fast and courteous. Will definitely be back. read more

Liked it when it was Uniquely Chendou. Not so much now. Last two times they served me cold food, prices too high, new menu hard to understand for westerners. Kind of rude to me maybe because I'm gwai lo? Much better Chinese food close by, for a better price. Won't eat here again Gave them another try because everything else was closed on new year's eve. Shrimp fried rice tasted good but for $11 there were 6 small shrimp in it. The "Chinese hamburger" had literally one tablespoon of meat, for $7. I had to tell them to give me more or I wouldn't pay. I'll never go here again. read more

Have eaten here three times and enjoyed each visit. That said, I always struggle to know what to order. Seems to me this is best with a large group where you can order lots of things and have a few bites of each. So far I've had the Mao's spicy pork belly (almost too rich), Mapo tofu, Dan Dan noodles (a bit bland) and spicy beef noodle soup with pickle (delicious). The flavors and preparation of all we've tried has been excellent. One of those places that you want to eat your way through the menu. read more

Ordered some different dishes this time! Me and some friends ordered the fish fillet with pickled veggies, spicy beef over rice, and the griddled beef. The fish fillet was pretty good size, I think it could feed 3 people. It has a lot of fish, and the soup has a light sour taste. The spicy beef over rice was flavorful, not too spicy with nice presentation. The griddled beef was also pretty good, nice spices and the beef was very soft. This place never disappoints! read more

Vegan & vegetarian Chinese food!!! An entire vegetarian section with mostly vegan Chinese food. A seemingly endless variety of vegetables, tofu, hot pot and grilled items. Authentic and not run of the mill Chinese-American crap. Delicious and very satisfying! The Chengdu vegetable steam pot was amazing. Make sure to order rice with it though, as it's spicy as hell. Affordably priced, authentic and delicious Chinese food. The Xiao long bao were savory and tender and the mapo tofu was richly flavored with a nice tingle from the peppercorn. Highly recommend! read more

The food here is incredible. Authentic Sichuan Chinese food with a history dating back 1000 years. The spices are applied with a deft hand and with soup dumplings, dry pots, cumin ribs and the best maps tofu I've ever had this place is easily a 5 star review. The folks the run this place couldn't be nicer and clearly have a passion for the food. Wheat Bay uniquely Chengdu is one of the best restaurants of any kind with in a 50 mile radius of Eugene. I couldn't have been more grateful for this filling, comfort food on a rainy day following are wearying rock climbing adventure. Located on a campus strip, Chengdu has much to offer in quality compared to my college town Chinese spots. You can find parking in the back of the building, and make your way around front the the entryway. Service was welcoming, and we were sat promptly on a Saturday night around 5:30ish. There were two other parties in the restaurant, and the noise level was relatively low. We ordered the Szech Chicken, Beef Noodle Soup, and Combination Fried Rice. Altogether wait time was about 15 minutes from ordering to food delivery of each item. All items were piping hot, and the chicken dish and fried rice were definitely hot off the wok. Beef Stew: mild in flavor, good amount of chili oil and peppers that hit you occasionally and makes you need a little water to decrease the heat. Tender beef with minimal fat. Noodles were good as well, can't quite remember them though. Good dish overall, not too salty, not too oily, right in a perfect little groove. Fried Rice: never can go wrong with this classic. Inter dispersed chicken, beef, and shrimp. All around good size and choice. I've never cared for the pease added, however next time I'll maybe ask for the dish without them. Szechuan Chicken: this dish was absolutely delicious and had the perfect tummy warming effect for the evening. Chicken was tender and the sauce was flavorful. Not as spicy as were used to, but otherwise the flavors really melded perfectly in your mouth. The food was great and large portion. I ordered their deep fried fish in the boiling pot and the taste was amazing. This was the best Sichuan style spicy food I've ever had within Oregon state. Ordered take out on grub hub. Order showed up spilled inside the bag. Hot and sour soup war cold and foul. Dan dan noodles was made with spaghetti noodles and were bland. It's a place that specializes in wheaten food and noodles. Looking at the menu, I noticed a wide variety of options with complex preparation methods. For example, the dough used for regular dumplings is completely different from the dough used for shrimp dumplings (har gow). Shrimp dumplings require wheat starch (cheng mian), which must be kneaded and shaped with water around 70°C (158°F) to form properly. The entire process is incredibly labor-intensive and truly tests the chef's skill level. Ambiance & Environment: You can tell this restaurant has been open for a long time, yet it remains very clean. There is a glass-enclosed prep area where you can watch the staff making the dough and noodles from scratch, which perfectly showcases their specialty. However, I was seated right next to the back door. Since customers have to use this door to access the restrooms, people were constantly walking in and out. The draft was quite strong, causing my food to cool down very quickly. I highly recommend installing a folding screen there. I also overheard other guests asking to switch seats for the same reason, so this is definitely an area management needs to work on. The Food: Since I was dining alone, I only ordered two dishes, but overall, the food deserved high praise: Griddle Cooked Beef (Gan Guo Beef): A classic Sichuan dish. The beef slices were large, the side ingredients were plentiful, and they definitely didn't skimp on the seasoning. It had a rich, robust aroma of spices that burst in your mouth. Delicious! Beef Dumplings: Easily the best dumplings I have ever had on the entire West Coast. The wrappers were thin, the filling was generous, and they were incredibly juicy--literally bursting with flavor with every bite. Highly recommended! Service: Absolutely non-existent! About five minutes after all my food arrived, while I was right in the middle of eating, a server just dropped the bill on my table. I was completely baffled. It wasn't until I pointed out that I still needed rice that they finally took the bill back. Once I finished my meal, I asked for the check. The server gave absolutely no response. Seeing a long line of people waiting outside, I proactively asked a second time because I didn't want to hold up their business. To my surprise, the staff member snapped at me impatiently, saying, "I heard you, I have to go over there to get your bill." It was genuinely infuriating. Good foods. No services

I dined at Uniquely Chengdu a handful of times and had a mixed experience the latest visit. First, the positives: the food here is fantastic! The mapo tofu, beef rolls, and honey walnut shrimp were all delicious and definitely worth trying. The ambiance is also quite nice, with plenty of seating available and a location that's conveniently walkable from campus. However, the service was alright. The staff wasn't very friendly, which put a bit of a damper on the experience. Additionally, I was surprised to find that they charged for takeout boxes, which seemed a bit unreasonable. If you're looking for authentic Sichuan cuisine, this place is a hidden gem! The flavors are bold, spicy, and true to the region--just the way Sichuan food should be.
