Passed by this place with my kids thinking we'd stop somewhere nearby for slices when a dude comes out of the store to meet us with stickers for the kids. My crew was very happy after this encounter to give Upside a try. We ended up with three slices of cheese plus one pepperoni slice, and these were easily the best quality I've had in NYC for traditional pies. Price was a bit more than I I'd expected, but it seems appropriate for the product. Solid customer experience from start to finish. We'll be back to Upside Pizza. read more

I absolutely loved the pizza here, its a small hole in the wall establishment, but felt like a place from the 1990s, with a cartoonish look to it. The slices here are excellent, the plain had wonderful flavors, and the Sausage and Pepper slice, wow, just wow, amazing. I think this is the best pizza in Manhattan easily, I have tried most of the other slice shops in the city and this place was something you would normally find in the outer boroughs in Brooklyn and the Bronx, the quality was just way bettert than the typical Manhattan slice. The plain was a 9.1, Dave from Barstool gave this place a score in the mid 7s, Seriously??? This was fantastic pizza, way better than Joe's and other famous places in the city. Brick fire oven (ask them, they'll show you ), awesome ingredients, quality service, and true NY grit atmosphere has this as my top pizza spot in midtown without compare. Check em out. Thank GOD I don't live in NYC, or I'd turn in to a piece of Upside Pizza! I've been here for 3 days and have eaten it twice. The mushroom white pizza has a lemon cream sauce with wine in it...HOLY COW is this delicious. The deep dish Sicilian was crunchy, just right pepperoni grease bowls, and phenomenal cheese. The experience itself is a little strange for this Pennsylvania girl (standing at a table on the street getting bumped by people walking by, listening to ear pounding profanity laced music and trying not to notice that the pizza guy touches the piece of pizza without a glove when he throws it in the oven). It's midtown. It's where good food options go to die. No lack of slice spots...most mediocre at best. But wait...can it be? Can that pepperoni square actually taste as good as it looks? It looks heavy, weighed down, but it's what I'm craving. And then...I'm holding the slice in the paper plate, can't help but notice how light it feels. One bite, and oh my...so airy. Puffy light, perfectly cooked dough with dark, crispy toasted edges. The perfect balance of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni without being heavy or greasy. Honestly, the only difference from Dollar pizza is...less cheese, burnt crust, and less sauce, compared to dollar slice and I have to pay 3$??? For a slice that gives me less satisfaction that 1$ slice ? Guys, I expected more from the owner of Two Bros. You guys are selling dollar quality for 3x the price? Why? Because you decided to spend mad money on a store interior design, customers can't even sit in and enjoy anyway? The cheese I'll admit I noticed a little fresh mozzarella mixed with regular shredded cheese and sauce that's slightly sweet but savory. It was barley noticeable considering they put such a thin layer of sauce and cheese! The crust? The dough? I think was the absolute worst part. It was burnt, dry, crusty, my gums bled, I threw out the crust that took up a good 1/4th of the slice it self. I spent my tip money on shitty pizza because I read the articles around upside pizza and I passed by it before near one of my jobs. I walked RIGHT PAST 2Bros and could have bought 3 slices for better taste. Sure maybe they don't use the "top quality" but atleast THEYRE crust didn't make my gums bleed and make me feel dissatisfied with my meal. I'm not trying to hate, Im just saying for someone who was born in NYC and has tried pizzerias all over the boroughs. This place will not be remembered for their pizza quality. The square slices looked like they were once good but had sat out way too long - I don't like reheated pizza. Pizza is eaten with your hands and there is no hand sanitizer onsite for the customers when buying slices (in the middle of the pandemic). The employees also don't have sanitizer, nor is there a visible sink upstairs for them to wash their hands. They handle the money, handle food, etc etc. Unsanitary, will not go back. read more

Really good pizza! I love the classic cheese slice and the white wine mushroom slice. The latter has a little bit of a lemon kick to it, which is really tasty. The square is also good, and I'm not a square fan! I like this square because it's not too doughy and there is a good distribution of sauce and cheese. I don't feel like I am getting globs of sauce like with squares from other places. Must try if you are in the area! read more

I heard many positive reviews and love pizza. With it being a Noam Grossman and Anthony Falco collaboration, I was fine with paying $35 for a pepperoni pie. Which, as we all know, is expensive for a pizza. (They only offer a large size.) I also love pizza condiments so, when I ordered, I asked for them on the side. They agreed to include them. When my pizza arrived, later in the evening, there were no condiments~ oregano, red pepper, garlic salt, etc. First, I was bummed, but let it go. Then I tried the Upside Pizza!! It tasted like a salt mine with a hint of pepperoni. Pretty bad. So, to deal with/cover up the taste, I called them and asked if they could send the condiments over. They told me that the person who took my order was incorrect. The chefs put he condiments they feel appropriate on the pizza when they cook it and there are not additional spices available. So, I was left with the most part of a huge $35 salty pizza. Did not seem fair. Following, I called them and explained the situation. They told me was good?! Non-response. I asked if they take it back and try themselves. They said no. Gave me an email to follow you with. Said I should get an immediate response. Still waiting to hear. read more

Absolutely disgusting pizza. If you want to feel sick, eat here. First impressions, the entirety of the space was caked in grease film. You know, the yellow stuff you see from places that burn way too much oil in the restaurant. This should have been a sign of things to come. I order my slices, watch them open the oven with a plume of smoke billowing out. Burning oil. I get my slices. The plate is soaked. The cheese is sliding all over the place. I attempt to fold and eat and an avalanche of molten cheese falls to the sidewalk. What do I taste on the first bite? Burned oil. Cheese and sauce with zero flavor. A sick film of fat coating my mouth. And, finally, an edge crust that eats like bad pie crust (from all of the oil in it.) This pizza is absolutely vile. I cannot believe their PR team could pay The NY Times enough to place positive press on the place. You're much better off going to NY Pizza Suprema or Joe's in the area. read more

This pizza is fantastic, really. Don't let the 8th Avenue location fool you into thinking it's just another slice shop. I grew up in the New York area, and this pizza is as good or better than DiFara, not playin. There is a real difference in whatever they are doing with their dough. It's is crispy, but not dry, the flavor has depth, slightly chewy. And all the ingredients they are using are high quality, you can tell at first bite. This is the subway car of pizza joints: it's crowded, there's not a lot of room to maneuver, but it does the job and cannot be found outside New York. It was hard to find a quarter of a high-top table to balance pepperoni Sicilian and white mushroom slices. I wolfed both down easily, noticing the char in the Sicilian crust with some overhang of cheese, a slight tang in the sauce, and the smooth flavor of the mushrooms and cheese without tomato. This is a bright spot in the chaos of the Theater District, rife with tourist-friendly junk food. The hectic atmosphere spills into the shop, although when the weather gets better the standing room outside will relieve the space constraints. If this place could expand to a couple more standing tables, it would make a big difference. read more
