The price for a slice isn't listed. Many places are $1 for a cheese slice. For a slice of pepperoni it was $5. It was just OK and if I had known it was $5 for the slice I would have gone down the street. I had better pizza at the airport. Sbarro has better pizza. read more

Walked by this place on the way to the post office; I knew I needed some fuel to face the lines and avoid unleashing any hanger on innocent bystanders. I went with the classic cheese pizza, but another with mushrooms was tempting. The interior is simple with no seating, but there are tables outside. The serious 90s vibes there matched my outfit. The pizza was greasy but perfectly cheesy. The cheese tasted layered, and the sauce was some of the best I've had, though I don't eat pizza often. I was excited to try it as soon as it came out of the oven, and the sauce burned my tongue...learn from this and make sure you give it some time to cool down. Overall, a nice place for a slice if you happen to walk by. read more

Upside Pizza Food isn't bad In terms of how the pizza tastes. That's the only reason I gave them two stars and not 1. But I've dealt with mediocre pizza places that have amazing service. This establishment lacks proper etiquette when it comes to dealing with the customers especially ones that's are polite to them. My assumption is that the pizza worker woke up on the wrong side of the bed but that has nothing to do with how he treats customers. Their pizza was burnt I ask for a new slice he gave me an attitude because I didn't want to taste a burnt slice of pizza. He must've thought I was a tourist since that area is heavily patrolled with tourists. He probably thought he wasn't going to see me again but this isn't my first dealings with this location the first time the same issue with people having an attitude and talking to me disrespectfully. One thing this establishment should learn is you make money off the customer you should never talk to them in a manner they feel uncomfortable, for you to stay in business.So I tried to give this place a second chance but they don't deserve it at this point this isn't a Places to visit in terms of great Pizza and great Service. A very good slice of pizza, but not really worth the hype of The New York Times article or the $4 price tag!and, there's no place to sit down. Pepperoni was goo, again, not the mouth-watering delicacy described by The Times. I made a special stop on a trip to the city from upstate. Next time I'll go with the sushi, elsewhere! We both liked the Cheese pizza best eventhough the Pepperoni slice was delicious. Price-Great prices 2-4.50 per slice (worth it) Best Pizza Atmosphere-The only complaint that I have is how NASTY the tables and seating area was. We had to clean off our own table. They are not concerned about customer experience just selling pizza. Please monitor your cleaning area so that customers can enjoy eating their food in cleanliness. The deep dish/Sicilian was too over-cooked and when re-heated it wasn't fully hot to me. I feel like if I had weak gums my teeth would've shifted around, that's how hard the crust was. While the flavor was there, evidently, the texture wasn't as edible. However, the price was reasonable and this is why they're receiving an extra star from me, other than that they would've just gotten a two (1 star for flavor and 1 star because I love deep dish/Sicilian pizzas either way). read more

I went here for lunch when they opened right across from my job. It was just OK, the crust was crispy which was nice but the pizza flavor was just OK which is not OK for the price $5 a slice. Since they were new and maybe it was just me I was going to order for my office of 14 people. I wanted 3 pies; cheese, pepperoni and mushroom. I wasn't able to eat my mushroom slice when I got back to the office but that wasn't a problem because the crust was still crispy and delicious! There's plenty of places that can do a super thin slice pizza but most of them don't carry well and turn into a soggy or chewy mess. Not here. There are a ton of pizzerias on the corner in NYC. This is one you want to walk into to. The upside pepperoni is the one by far. Maybe that's why it's $43 to have a pie delivered? Love this spot - Hip, cool, quick, TASTY. Was taking the Long Island railroad and I happen to pass by. It got my attention from the pinkish/artsy walls. I stuck with one plain and now i know THIS WILL BE MY GO TO SPOT! I commute daily luckily this guy is right on my way to penn station. I had to wait 15 minutes to get 2 pieces of pizza heated up all because the cashier guy did not communicate my order to the cooks! Then I couldn't get my sausage slice because it was sold out and handed to the people after me who got their food first before me. The cook then told me it's not his fault as the cashier didn't tell him, well don't tell me! Tell the guy at the register to do his job! Stopped by this new pizza shop after coming across the NYTimes article. I opted for the square pizza with pepperoni which was good - definitely very greasy, but still very good flavors. In terms of price, the square pizza came out to $5 which is not too expensive. Quality of the slice really depends on when you go - better when its fresh out the oven rather than at the end of the day when the slices have been sitting out. read more

No. Just no. Sadly this place has gone downhill fast. I got a little, ahem, ***cleaning out***after eating here last time and now I know why. The new pizza guys are using their bare hands to make food and serve food after handling money (the dirtiest most bacteria laden fomite in NYC other than the actual sidewalk). But that's not the worst. You know this is Heroin Row with a ton of mentally ill and addicted people nearby, walking into traffic, zoned out on the sidewalk having soiled themselves, etc. It's sad and I do have compassion and one can't prevent people from congregating on a corner or wandering through the shop, BUT... you can THROW SLICES OUT or give them to said street people when they touch the slices set up. NOT GIVE THEM TO A CUSTOMER or when called out on it, pretend to throw them out but actually just PUT THEM BACK IN THE CASE TO BE SOLD TO THE NEXT UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMER. I was here since the first week of your opening and always returned 2 to 3 Times a week to eat including my co-workers who all happen to work for the hotel nearby. Now, I ain't going back here. Sucks BIG TIME for me cause your pizza is delicious.....but now I wouldn't want to send any of our hotel guests to your establishment knowing they are in potential of bad service which we really strive on. The New York Times wrote about it on Tuesday, so of course I had to come here on Wednesday. That's just the way it is. Upside is the brother of 2 Bros., the popular $1 slice chain peppered throughout the city. While both offer fast, hot, delicious slices, Upside has the leg up in terms of quality. The ingredients, as you can read about so eloquently in the Times, are of higher quality, with a greater variety of cheeses and the addition of olive oil (a relative luxury). The tradeoff is a significant increase in price, to $3 and up. The result are slices to die for. They really are that good. I genuinely love $1 slices from 2 Bros and 99 Cents Fresh, but these almost make it worth the premium. The cheese on the regular slice is just incredible, tangy and savory without being overpowering. The sauce is robust enough to be noticed but not so thick to combat the crust and the cheese. All the ingredients exist in a perfect balance. The Sicilian slice wins for its base, which feels as thick as that mythical beast, the Chicago-style deep dish, without feeling as dense and unhealthy. Meanwhile the regular slice wins hands-down overall for its cheese, which brings out taste buds you don't even know existed. This is some of the best pizza I've had after sampling my share of counter-serve joints across the city. It is well-worth coming back to. Now for the hard part: this place is simply way too small. The customer area is not even wide enough for two people to stand, meaning you will be constantly brushing past one another. This is uncomfortable and unpleasant and makes eating here a real bother. I strongly recommend taking your slice with you if the weather allows and eating it elsewhere. If they want their incredible slices to really go big they need to find a suitable location. read more

Walked in yesterday, and while waiting in line I saw a round pepperoni pie come out of the oven. It looked magnificent. It was then sliced, and put under the counter. I asked the girl working the register for two slices of the fresh pepperoni pizza I had just seen. I told her I'd tip an extra $4. She told me all of their pizza was fresh, and no she would NOT sell me a slice of the pie a had requested. The slices in the glass case were dry and congealed. I had no desire to eat any of them, even reheated. I threw $2 in the tip jar, and walked out without any pizza. Horrible customer service. I couldn't believe a pizza shop refused to sell me pizza! I could tell that the girl took some sort of twisted pleasure in denying my request. Never again. read more

Went by today to give you guys a try and was a little taken back by the 3 people preparing pizza in the window. That's six different hands in the ingredients...not very appetizing. Beside that none of the ingredients seemed to be refrigerated, it was all just sitting out on the counter. How ever I did look at the display and all the pizza is too well done for my taste. Don't believe the haters. This pizza is absolutely incredible. As you may have read in the New York Times, the cheese is produced on site, the bread is sourdough, and the slices, both regular and grandma style, are amazing. I especially loved the grandma slice: the crust was perfect golden crispy, the dough was airy and perfectly toothsome, with an acidity that balanced the sweetness of the sauce. read more
