Urth knows they got a captive market for breakfast at LAX, so even with nearly $20 oatmeal as the offering, I stood in a giant line of 30 people to pay my dues for not preparing accordingly. The nice thing is the giant line does go pretty fast, as most people are ordering coffees or oatmeal not hot cooked food, but if you want breakfast during an early morning flight, your pickings are slim. The barista who called out the drinks ignored me when I asked about my order. She walked by me after handing out a drink to another customer, ignored me when I asked her a question about my order, and started making another drink. I had to find another employee to verify that my drinks were ready for pick up and finally was able to go on my way. I understand that a bariata must make drinks, but you don't just put drinks on a counter, unlabeled, and walk off to make drinks without making any eye contact. Why does a customer need to wait around to find another employee to verify which of the drinks on the counter are their drinks to pick up and go? I stopped by Urth Caffe at LAX airport while waiting for my flight. There were a few people in line and most of the nearby tables were occupied, but the line moved fairly quickly. It is a popular spot to eat so I can see it getting really busy. The cashier who took my order was nice and friendly. I ordered the blended green tea and it was really good! Personally, I order their green tea over their matcha. I wanted to add boba but they didn't have any when I visited. I've always wanted to try me some Urth Caffe!! Unfortunately, I never got around to it due to short stays or the accompanying party not being interested. Thankfully my most recent passing through of LAX gave me the opportunity. First things first, there was only a cash option for payment during my visit. I am not sure what the glitch was but staff openly informed customers upfront of the situation. I'm not sure how much the menu from LAX differs from an actual caffe site but the offerings seemed plentiful. There are 4 breakfast items, a choice of 6 different sandwiches, & 3 types of salads. This location also provides alcoholic drinks and has a full espresso bar. Purchases: Caravan Kale Salad Grilled Chicken Pesto Sandwich Soda Food: TBH, I was a little taken back by the pre-made salads. I went along with the initial pick anyhow but I was a bit disappointed @ first sight. The grilled chicken pesto sandwich was made fresh. The caravan kale salad was really really really good- even with it being premade! The kale was fresh, the meal was light, and the pita chips provided such a nice crunch. This salad was a HOME-RUN! The was just as good. The chicken was moist, the pesto in itself was delicious, and the veggies were very fresh. 5/5 stars. Ordered a medium vanilla latte, I get charged for a large chai latte. I go and get my drink and ask and they say it's a chai I said no I ordered a med vanilla latte, the barista kindly goes and makes my drink again. The lady with the mask who took my order says to her coworker that I ordered the wrong thing but says it in Spanish. Lucky for her I speak Spanish and responded back to her. I get told it's only a few cents difference and don't even get the difference back. So basically was told who cares. I would never recommend this location to anyone. read more

I ordered an Iced Green Tea (matcha) latte with soy milk substitute and vanilla along with a warmed up butter croissant to top it off. I'm glad that Urth didn't sacrifice the quality of their food despite being in an extremely busy location like an airport. Great service; the cashier that rang me up was amicable, and also was kind to mention that there were two different types of matcha drinks. the one I almost ordered had an extra shot of caffeine, which I def didn't need so I'm glad she clarified before I made my final choice for my drink order. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. Urth caffe has mediocre pricing typically, but airport surcharge fees definitely raise it up an expensive notch. If I was desperate, and in need of an emergency caffeine pick-me-up, I would order again! My first time inside Terminal 1 at LAX I decided to have lunch at Urth Cafe & Bar. This is quite a popular cafe with a few locations across Los Angeles County. I was kind of surprised that they had one in the airport but I am glad they did because I was pretty hungry. I ordered their chicken soup which is pretty much chicken, broth, and vegetables there are no noodles inside. Also for a tuna sandwich and a matcha blended rising sun drink with almond milk. Says it has extra energy which I need and wanted to try out. It kind of tastes like there is chocolate mixed into it but not sure. Overall the food is delicious and the drink is much needed. This is my go to coffee and breakfast spot anytime I'm flying out of terminal one at LAX! They boast about their heirloom coffees which are lovely and their pastries are as delicious as they are beautiful. I almost always get their Spanish Latte - a creamy, mild latte with just the right amount of sweetness. I also love their decorative blueberry danishes - textures and flavors are fantastic and again, not too sweet which I really appreciate. This last trip I tried their breakfast sandwich which comes with bacon, cheese and egg. It's served on a very nice bun - soft and savory and always nicely toasted. But it does have a bit of an odd aftertaste and I probably wouldn't get it again. It was just ok. Their lines are always long but they move fast. They have lots of seating in benches and at the coffee bar and the decor is chic and bright. Staff are efficient but not overly warm or friendly - but they are always frantic busy lol. Their prices are crazy high - but given that they're in the airport it's not a surprise. On my last visit they were only accepting cards and mobile pay methods - no cash - so be aware. read more

I went to the bar to order a drink and a bite to eat. First thing i noticed were all the little gnats flying around.. especially by the beer spouts. I asked my bartender for a French 75 and he didn't know what ingredients went into and also said they didn't have simple syrup. Totally serviceable. Nothing more. It's $20 for a chicken salad sandwich that is completely edible. I recognize that overpaying somewhat, and ending up with just mediocrity, is actually in the upper tier of possible airport food results. Still, I don't have to like it. I'd probably recommend the Ace tacos in the food court just behind Urth instead if you're here in Terminal 1 and need to eat, but you could certainly do worse. read more

Was excited to see an Urth Caffe at LAX. Last week's morning flight was the perfect time to pick up coffee and breakfast. Definitely not the same as the stand alone full restaurant locations. Cute decor though. Brightly lit, many delicious pastry options, modern wood slat designed seating. I loved the wall art that included a Leave a book, Take a book section. I would love to see that be utilized. Extremely limited menu. Was disappointed to not see the Japanese Matcha Latte on the menu or the Sunrise Pizza. I adore the matcha at Urth cafe. While a bit pricey, I think the quality of the matcha and coffee at the airport is such a godsend when you have time to spare at the Southwest terminal. I tried the Rising Sun Matcha Latte for the first time, and the blend of espresso + matcha was done so beautifully here. A small bagel breakfast sandwich is about $18 (very tasty but barely any bacon--it's like Starbucks, they put it in the toaster oven). The sandwich is cheaper than the larger $15 breakfast burrito. It is what it is. The cappuccino is about $7. The free water is straight from the tap. Tastes like metal and has to spit it out. I have a nostalgic love for Urth Caffe and the LAX location always lures me in - despite the crazy airport prices. This is the only boba you can get in the terminal and it's not bad! The boba is gummy-like and somewhat firm. The sweetener they use reminds me of Stevia... but in a good way? Of their pastries, I recommend the fruit danishes! The berries are always so fresh and hit the spot. I like to give these to loved ones as a souvenir from LA. The English Tea Latte is very sweet, but I still enjoy it. The spot is right above the escalators as you are entering or exiting the airport past TSA. There is a bunch of different teas, coffees and pastries to choose from. I always enjoy getting the blended matcha. It only comes in a size large. The straws are paper straws so don't take too long to drink you're drink or your straw will fall apart on you. But all things considered, this terminal grab-and-go location is not nearly as horrible as these Yelp reviews make it out to be. Expect a long time, but any decent food location at LAX is going to have a long-line. The bagel place next-door had an even longer line, so take your pick. We waited about 10-minutes in line before an early morning flight around 7 AM. Service was ok. Not friendly but they kept the line moving efficiently, which what matters most in this environment. They did not have espresso coffee available this day for whatever reason. I'm assuming it was because their espresso machine broke down. We got a croissant and cookie, both of which were pretty good! The croissant had the right amount of buttery flavor and the cookie was not too sweet. For "airport breakfast", this is probably as good as you are going to get. read more
