The Vampire Café is a vampire-themed restaurant that, rather unfortunately, feels a little light on the actual vampire theming. There are a few interesting decorations, but I expected the interior to be darker, more immersive, and considerably more dramatic. I wanted to feel as though I had entered the private dining chamber of an ancient blood-drinking aristocrat--not merely a restaurant that had recently browsed the Halloween aisle. The cocktails all have wonderfully vampiric names and presentations. They sound impressive on the menu, but the drinks we tried were only all right. The food was not terrible either, but it was fairly expensive, and I did not feel that the quality matched the price. Nothing was disastrous; it simply wasn't particularly memorable. The blood-bag cocktail appeared to be the main attraction. Most patrons seemed to order one, pose for photographs, and then post the evidence of their forbidden transfusion online. It makes for a fun picture, but novelty blood bags are available in many places now, so it felt somewhat underwhelming as the centerpiece of the experience. Most disappointingly, I found no actual vampires inside. As a professional vampire hunter, I considered this a serious failure of inventory management. Fortunately, I encountered one wandering along Bourbon Street later that evening. I approached him cautiously, my hand hovering over the wooden stake concealed beneath my coat. He turned toward me, his eyes glowing crimson beneath the streetlights, and asked, "What do you seek, mortal?" I told him I needed directions to a good hot-dog stand. He sighed, lowered his cape, and pointed two blocks down. He recommended the chili dog but warned me to avoid the garlic aioli. Naturally. Overall, the Vampire Café offers some attractive drinks and amusing photo opportunities, but the light theming, average food, and high prices prevented it from being the immersive experience I had hoped for. Gotta start with the good: The ambience, while cheesy as heck, is exactly what you'd expect from this place, and that's cool. A bunch of booze with wacky vampire-themed names and all. Everything spendy, because duh, French Quarter. The sweet Latina lady working the bar was very kinda and attempted to assist us with the tea leaves reading, uncomfortably, but points for effort! The bad: The service was a frigging joke, y'all. The older lady running front of house has absolutely no business being in a customer facing position. She was short with us and every single person who came in after us, as well as waitstaff. (Late forties, dark hair, white.) She made it clear that she was saving all the open tables for folks who were there to order food, (without saying it out loud, of course) and seated my party and the two who came in after us at the tiny bar. She also loudly yelled at anyone who came in the front door to shut it behind them IMMEDIATELY, like she was the one paying the electric bill, us included. We came for a cup of vampire tea and to have our tea leaves read (the wifey really wanted to) but were told since it was busy that we could do the "self-guided" version, which costs $30 (with commemorative teacup and saucer! Yay!) or truck on down to the Vampire Boutique a few blocks over. Which we had already attempted to visit, by multiple times over the course of an hour and a half, only to find it closed on a day the door, and the business hours on the internet said it should be open. You like vamp-related things to do? Don't waste your money here. Go over to the garden district and take the Anne Rice tour there, or do one of the spooky tours in the Quarter. But this place? We planned our girls trip to New Orleans around all things spooky, so the Vampire cafe was a necessary stop on the itinerary, and the vibe was everything we thought it would be. The brick and iron work inside the restaurant was stunning, and the tables and settings helped the gothic vibe. Soft light shone through caged windows, but just enough for the restaurant to still feel like a dimly lit hideaway. The food menu has vegetarian options which are clearly marked, I ordered the veggie burger. It was stacked with two patties and marked with a V, an order of potato chips were served on the side. It was a generous plate and that had me at first bite, the food was delicious. Unfortunately they were out of their infamous blood bags, which both the hostess and server were kind enough to let us know. The upside to that is they have an excellent blood themed cocktail menu. I ordered the B+ whiskey cocktail, also called blood and sand, which probably gets its name from the demura sugar crystals that were sitting in the bottom of the martini glass. Served with a cherry, this is a sweet and fun drink. My friend was celebrating her birthday, so our server offered her a birthday shot, which was made with bailey's, kaluah, and something else I can't recall. I had a sip, it tasted quite nice. True Blood fans come to this place for the fun photo opp of drinking out of a blood bag. They have alcoholic ($15) and non-alcoholic ($9) versions. 4 stars instead of 5 because I ordered the ribeye medium well (don't come at me!) And it was served bloody red so I asked them to re-fire it and while the outside looked more cooked (the pieces were already sliced) the inside was still pinky red. It tasted fine but I didn't want to send it back a second time. Staff is quick and attentive. My daughter loved the decor in the main dining area, bar and bathroom! Fun to try! read more

I came here to get the blood Bag drink, and that turned out really good. I also ended up splitting a breakfast burger since we had already eaten before getting here, but it was still very good. What a fun experience while visiting NOLA. Their menu had a great selection of food, dessert and drinks (though the blood bags are what everyone goes for!) note that the blood bags are incredibly popular and there are occasions where they will sell out completely. I visited with three others and we shared several apps, tried the regular blood bags and the nonalcoholic version. Everything was good, the atmosphere dark and cozy, and the staff friendly. This is our second time enjoying this vampiric cafe for breakfast. Definitely not our last. While their breakfast menu is a bit limited it is delicious. Food is fresh and I don't know what they season their country potatoes with but they are the best. I normally dislike country potatoes (I'm a hash brown guy) but the Vampire Cafe's potatoes kick some serious butt. Next time we'll try lunch or dinner. Service is top notch. As someone who loves themed restaurants, I was excited to visit the Vampire Café after seeing the name and their advertised blood bags. I'm always drawn to unique dining experiences, so this felt like a must-try. While I expected the atmosphere to lean a little more heavily into the vampire theme, I was pleasantly surprised by what really stood out--the food. The food was shockingly good. A lot of themed restaurants rely on the novelty and the food can end up being mediocre, but that was definitely not the case here. My husband ordered the pork chop with teriyaki sauce, and it was absolutely delicious--so much so that he talked about it for two days afterward. I had the burger with homemade chips, and both were outstanding. The chips were especially memorable; I honestly wish I knew how they made them because I'd love to have them again. The staff was just okay--not rude, but not especially warm or welcoming either. On the positive side, the prices were decent for the quality of food. When in NOLA, do something spooky. With a day full of voodoo museums and cemetery tours, we decided to start our day at the Vampire Cafe for some breakfast. The space has a great vibe and we enjoyed the atmosphere while we waited for some friends. We started with a blood bag cocktail which was fun! They also had a good wine selection. Is there a better way to follow up a night time ghost and vampire tour and dinner at the Vampire Cafe? I think not! We have been to this place before I'm previous visits, and wanted to bring our son who came with us on this trip. The building is, like all the others in the French quarter, an old brick building. There's exposed brick and lots of iron work and sparkly chandeliers. I love that in the window the bottles of wine have vampire capes. You have to pay attention to this small details - the red napkins are folded in the shape of the heart with the silverware making a cross. We have been told that the owner of this restaurant says she is a vampire who is over 200 years old. The drinks are all mean for blood types, so you order an A-, B+, O-, etc. there are some blood back drinks, one of which is the red fang-ria, which I ordered. Hubby and son ordered the shrimp and grits with andouille sausage, and I got the alligator po' boy sandwich with housemade chips. Everything was yummy, especially my alligator! We're from Southern California, came out here for a comedy festival; Skankfest. For Saturday we had time on our hands in the morning before the festival. The name of the restaurant of course caught our eye so gave it a try. Friend wasn't really hungry but convinced him to buy a drink. I was hungry so got the French toast. Eat a lot of French toast when eating out for breakfast and brunch at restaurants and it was good. Nothing amazing but it did its job. That's as far as the food goes. But you come here more so for the ambience. Honestly , thought the atmosphere or ambience of the restaurant would be more impactful. More so, it feels as though not too much was put into it, but it was still cool. Could be that our server was great. Forgot her name but she was attentive and we enjoyed her insight into gothic stuff as well as New Orleans and the restaurant. While we were just passing through and kind of making it quick, our server made the experience more enjoyable. Menu for the food is limited, but it's a decent theme restaurant. But only if you are looking for a simple meal. Would say if you want a fuller experience , probably somewhere else. My brother had a Bloody Maria. The wine list is entertaining too featuring brands like Trueblood, Fangria, & Freakshow. I ordered Avocado Toast & brother had the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict. My dish consisted of a thick slice of toast topped with avocado, smoked salmon, pickled cucumbers, onions, & drizzled with dill oil. The avocado & smoked salmon were fresh & tasty. I really enjoyed the vampire cafe while visiting New Orleans on Halloween and actually came here twice! It is very very busy but we were able to be seated within a reasonable amount of time when we came here for lunch. I was happily surprised to see some great vegan options on the menu. The tofu curry was incredible. The flavor was perfect and it really hit the spot after traveling. I came back on Halloween to try the "blood bag" and I loved it. It was tasty and such a fun costume. Perfect drink for my vampire costume! Despite how busy it is the staff does a great job of accommodating everyone. This was a go to during the epic snow storm last year but with few choices available and the convenience being a block from the hotel that was great. This visit we wanted to make a stop in and I was craving the lamb stew. We got there to find they were all out of lamb stew and were not sure when they might have it. So opted for burgers. My burger the first time came out overcooked and dry. Was very disappointed in our meal. The staff there were great and service was amazing but disappointed in the meals we received.
