Came here with my girl for Monday Night Football and some happy hour bites and overall it was a great vibe and experience. The space itself is beautiful, modern, and inviting. Service was top notch our server was attentive, friendly, and on it all night without being overbearing. We started with sparkling water, chips, and guac plus a round of cocktails. Drinks were balanced, creative, and wellmade, and those chips were fried perfectly crisp and well salted. The guac was good, just could've used a touch more acidity to really pop. From the happy hour menu, we tried the pork belly and fish tacos both were hits and definitely worth ordering again. The Tacos Dorados looked amazing but were just okay flavor wise. The Quesadilla de Hongos (wild mushroom quesadilla) was the biggest miss for us while we appreciated the creative upscale twist it just didn't land for us. On the flip side, the Arrachera (skirt steak) was cooked beautifully and plated nicely, though flavor wise it wasn't anything mind blowing or that I'd come back for. We wrapped things up with the Tres Leches Cake and espresso martinis, and that's where the night ended on a high. Absolute chef's kiss easily the best part of the meal and a must order if you come here. Final Thoughts VIAJE is definitely a spot I'd come back to for happy hour, great drinks, and excellent service. The food presentation and ambiance give it an upscale feel, but for dinner, it's a little on the pricey side for what you get. This place is a solid base hit, and it's a very good choice for date night. The food is really the star of the show here. The salmon al pastor is a winner: a fascinating blend of sweet and savory and salty. Everything you can eat here is Instagrammable as well, if appearance matters to you. The arugula could have just been arugula, but instead they decked it out with shaved pecorino and salt and oil and fresh cherry tomatoes and recently cooked miniature potatoes. And the tres leches cake was probably the best I've ever had. The prices are fair for this level of service and cookery. The decor is quite elegant, and clearly set someone back a few pennies. Service was very attentive without being cloying. Negatives to this place are mostly just quibbles. As a general note to all up and coming restauranteurs in the LA area: please either light your dining areas above cavern level, or supply your guests with menus that have larger than 8-point font, or provide reading glasses, or all three. The front of the place is designed to roll up like a big garage door, bringing in lots of fresh air, which must be wonderful on warm nights; however, the night we visited was quite cold and rainy, and I spent most of the meal fully jacketed and shivering. Lastly, the salmon had about half a notch too much salt on it -- these things are very tricky to get perfect. Don't let these quibbles keep you from coming. I hope I don't regret saying this but this might just be one of the BEST restaurants in Long Beach right now. My only regret is not coming here sooner. From the moment we walked in, the service stood out. The waitstaff were incredibly sweet, attentive, and provided some of the best service I've had in a long time. We came during Social Hour, which was such a steal for the quality. We started with the pork belly taco: solid 4.6/5. It was beautifully balanced, though I personally would have liked a touch more salt. Then came their house margarita, made with Tesoro Tequila (or Mezcal if you choose). As someone who loves a well-crafted tequila, this was perfection. Smooth, balanced, and dangerously easy to sip. The Mezcal version was even better: smoky, complex, and unforgettable. A couple more cocktails followed, and every single one hit the mark. Chips and salsa were fresh and tasty (though I wish the portion was a bit bigger). The Branzino, though, was the real showstopper. Flaky, buttery, and served with warm blue corn tortillas that were the perfect vessel. My only wish? A touch more salt and maybe a salsa or hot sauce on the side to bring it all together. Still, it left me wanting more... in the best way. Overall: 9.8/10. Already booked our next reservation for our wedding anniversary. Oh, and did I mention? Tortillas were amazing, and I'd love to have more of them. For large groups, the menu is customized to the occasion with a banner, like "Happy Birthday (Name)!" Small gripes: -Pricing across appetizers seemed unbalanced. Some dishes felt like they were priced more accurately than others. $25ish for a singular tostada was one that stuck out compared to $14 for two tacos. -No split checks. Bummer with the context that my group of 20 was sat across two rows of tables and ordered according to how we were sat, so it would've been easier for us to handle billing across two checks for each row. -Plating of the pollito de mole? I had some suspicions that the way it arrived wasn't the way other Yelpers had submitted pictures of, and the photos on this page proved me correct. The presentation was odd to look at (my chicken spread wide) and navigate around, and I would've preferred to have it served in its original format. -Parking: this restaurant is located on 2nd Street, prepare for impacted, limited parking and meters. We started with a ceviche that was interesting in the best way: served in a tomato-based sauce with a hint of lemon that perfectly complemented the fresh raw fish. We came on a Friday night for date night not knowing too much about Viaje although we've walked past this restaurant many times. We asked for a table for two, then the hostess asked if we had a reservation which we didn't. She sat us in the middle of the restaurant with plenty of tables (2 tops) around us. The ambience is very nice. Perfect for a date night or girls evening. Unfortunately they don't do any modifications and I'm a vegetarian. The few vegetarian options they had didn't sound appetizing. My husband loves beer and didn't see any on the menu. The server didn't come over after many minutes so we decided to go to the bar and just get a drink and not eat here. The bartenders were so nice, friendly, and attentive. Really shifted our visit. We got a round of drinks (espresso martini and limon pepino margarita) then left. Stumbled upon viaje looking to watch the rams game and have a drink. The bartender was really cool and gave us wonderful service. We were snacking on their chips and salsa and guac and it was absolutely delicious. I knew i had to come back to try their food. Fast forward to few weeks later and I came for my birthday. When I sat down and looked at the menu and it had happy birthday Erin printed on it. I thought was so cute and made me feel special! Our server Aldo was friendly and recommend a lot of things on the menu which we all ordered. My favorite was the pulpo if I could lick the plate clean I would. I LOVE VIAJE. I initially discovered this place because they had tres leches for dessert. So for the first two visits, we sat at the bar and got tres leches and espresso martinis. We were so impressed. They had a tv playing sports, and the bar was somewhat filled, but the bartenders were on top of it. We came here another time for dinner to celebrate my birthday because we had to try the food. The menus had my name printed on them: "Happy Birthday Audrey." I asked for a sweet cocktail recommendation, and the server, I think, recommended the Maravilloso. I loved it. For an appetizer, we got the ceviche, and it was amazing. The food runner told us to mix it, and I am glad we did because the sauce was super yummy. They did bring us chips and salsa before to start. For entrees, we got the Salmon Al Pastor and the Pescado Zarandeado. The salmon had a nice twist with the pastor, which we have never seen before. The branzino is probably the best branzino I have had. It also came with tortillas, guacamole, and pickled veggies. For dessert, of course, we had to get the tres leches.... AGAIN! It is sooo good. Viaje in Long Beach was an excellent dinner choice. My mom and I had a 4:30 PM reservation and decided to split everything because sharing food is love and also because we wanted to try all the good stuff. We started with the sopes with short ribs, pickled onions, and avocado crema, and honestly they set the bar very high right away. The sopes somehow managed to be crispy and tender at the same time which feels illegal in the best way. The short ribs were melt in your mouth good, the pickled onions added the perfect pop, and the avocado crema tied everything together like it knew exactly what it was doing. Next up was the tortilla soup, which was comforting, flavorful, and had a subtle smoky vibe that made us pause mid bite like wow okay this is really good. For the main, we shared the arrachera with guacamole, and it did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and packed with flavor. Easily one of the best arrachera dishes we have had and yes we talked about it on the drive home. Dessert was the pastel de elote, served warm with ice cream, and it was the perfect ending. Sweet, comforting, and not too heavy which is ideal because we were already full but obviously still ate all of it. The atmosphere was great. Vibrant Latin decor, Latin music playing, and the Rams game on TV which somehow worked perfectly together. Service was excellent. Zachary, our server, was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. We were initially seated inside, but it was too cold for my mom. The staff quickly moved us to a patio table with a heater, no attitude, no hesitation, just solid hospitality. We did not order alcohol, just water, and still felt very well taken care of. Went here for my birthday, my husband surprised me. Over all the food was amazing but downfall is that when we asked for mocktails we were told they don't do that "it's not that kind of bar." I am currently pregnant so all I can have are mocktails if I want to feel like I'm not just drinking water. The waitress stated that all they had were aguas Fresca, I had 1 Jamaica at $4 then the two others at $16 because they changed the glass it came in and added tajin. Amazing! I've been eyeing this restaurant since they opened, and my friends made a reservation here for my birthday on a weeknight. We were seated right away. Viaje was very welcoming, and they even printed the menus with 'Happy Birthday, Trami!!!'--love it. Their drink menu focuses heavily on mezcal and tequila, as it should. I got the only gin-based cocktail, the Condesa, which was refreshing and sweet. My partner and friends all ordered Viaje's twist on the Paloma and even got a second round. We didn't order any appetizers since we didn't want to be too full for later. For entrées, we had the branzino, skirt steak, salmon al pastor, and the short rib enchiladas. Everything was cooked perfectly, and we were all amazed at how delicious everything was. For dessert, we ordered the churros, and Viaje surprised me with a tres leches cake for my birthday! I highly recommend Viaje for authentic Mexican food. The restaurant is fantastic, and my family and I have added Viaje to our list of favorites. The food, cocktails, and staff are all wonderful, and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Alethia always takes great care of us. We recently celebrated my aunt's birthday here--it was her first visit, and she absolutely loved it. We enjoy every dish we've tried. My personal favorite is the Salmon--it's phenomenal! I went here for an anniversary dinner and was pleasantly surprised. We got two drinks, an appetizer, two entrees, and a free celebratory dessert. I thought everything was very tasty, but I would've preferred my vegetables to have been steamed/boiled a little bit more before roasting because they were a little hard to bite. The portion sizes of the entrees were large! Had to take the food togo. Only two downsides in my opinion. First, was that it was LOUDDD. Not much can be done about that, but I did specifically ask to be seated somewhere quieter, yet we were still placed at an open table in the middle. Second, was that they spelled my name wrong on the menu! They spelled it Annie instead of Anne. I checked my partner's text, and confirmed that they spelled it correctly when giving it to the restaurant. I thought it was a little funny TBH, but I'm disappointed in the lack of quality control and worry that other people would find it less humorous ... Beautiful restaurant! They did a great job with the interior design, and totally reminds me of the nice restaurants in CDMX. Every appetizer,mains, and dessert dishes were beautifully presented; and tasted delicious. The only thing we would recommend skipping is the churros - it was slightly grainy/dry. For dessert, I really recommend the tres leches cake or the corn cake. The corn cake was almost souffle-like - tasty! Also, the cocktails... They were sooooo well made. I recommend getting the one with cantaloupe - of course I forgot what it was called. Service was impeccable. From checking in with the hostess to our awesome waiter, the service was genuinely friendly. They were so kind to have made my wife's birthday special, and really made our night enjoyable. Located on a bustling section of 2nd St in Ling Beach, Viaje is Mexican inspired upscale restaurant aimed at those seeking a refined menu. Since we enjoy Al fresco dining, we ate on the patio facing 2nd St. Unfortunately the din of the passing traffic combined with the noisy spillover from a nearby sports bar did not enhance our experience. The service, however was polite and efficient. We shared the canerones diablos that had had good spicing and the Arachera, marinated skirt steak that has a touch of mole flavor. The decor had the slick designer look that hinted at corporate influence. Definitely a pleasant experience but unlikely to return for a while. read more

We started with the sopes de costillas as suggested from our server, Aldo- & they were delicious. Sipped on a Paloma Blanca, so refreshing that I needed a second one My husband got the carnitas (so good) & I got the pollito con mole oaxaqueno- the most unique & delicious mole I have ever had (both also suggested by Aldo!). After having this place bookmarked for a while, my boyfriend and I finally decided to visit on Valentine's Day. I will admit that Modern Mexican is not my favorite cuisine as most of my experiences are underwhelming. However, this place delivered both service and flavor. We started with the ceviche, which was so refreshing and flavorful I would come back for that alone. For entrees, I chose the salmon al pastor and my boyfriend chose the pescado con almejas which is a Chilean sea bass with clams. The flavors of the salmon blended so well and I was so glad it had pineapple to complement the al pastor flavor. I only had a bite of my boyfriend's plate, but he raved about the sea bass and the sauce it was plated with. Our drinks and dessert were just as tasty and our server, David, did a wonderful job of explaining the menu items to us. He made sure to check in with us frequently, even on such a busy night like Valentine's Day.
