We picked Victoria's Diner after dropping off our friends at the airport at 5 in the morning. I would usually pick brunch places, but at 530 in the morning when nothing is open. This place is pretty decent. :) Its a really cute diner overall. Service was great. The waitress was very polite and soft spoken. They are all very friendly overall. We were able to facilitate a conversation even that early in the morning. That was very nice. My friends ordered omelettes and breakfast special with pancakes. I ordered a smoke salmon benedict. It was overall slightly salty because of the smoked salmon. I personally like things a little on the light side. The poached eggs was made just right with the yolk very runny. Their homemade benedict sauce gave it an extra kick to it. It was very different from the benedict sauces i've had before. But I liked it. It pulled everything together. Food overall is decent. Not like a WOW. But it does deserve a 4 because of its service and parking availabilities. (It does have a parking lot) Its kinda hard to find that in boston. I haven't eaten here in a while but it has always been my go-to late night spot. Today I had this craving for chocolate chip pancakes. I made the best decision by going here. I called for pick-up the staff was very friendly. I ordered the deconstructed with home fries. Words can't describe how happy I was with just the first bite. The food was amazing. Pancakes are huge and thick and fluffy. The home fries were seasoned and cooked just right. The sausage and bacon and ham was the tops. The eggs were plain. I go to victoria diner all the time when I want some good breakfast. Usually on Saturday they are very busy. We went around 930am and we were able to get a table. The waiterss were nice and very attentive and the food is good so I will be back again like always. Servers were not very friendly at all. Wouldn't accept out of state ID's whatsoever, despite only being 2 Oregon ID's in a group of 6 and all of us being 25+ years old. We decided to stay anyway, and the 2 out-of-staters ordered some non-alcoholic drinks. The diner was dead, you would think that they would be happy to have any business, but then they told us about their strict policy that everyone order food in addition to a drink. I came here with my girlfriend today and, only after sitting down for 25 min did anyone greet us and offer service. Trying to get the attention of other waitresses during this time only earned me dirty looks. WTF? Our waitress was at the least drunk and at the most high on some kind of opiate. She was slurring her words and asked us to reiterate our order multiple times. We had to ask a busboy to get our waitress more than once for coffee refills a she was nowhere to be found. Then after 40 more minutes we discovered that she hadn't put our order in and again, asked us to reiterate our order three times in a single take. The food came out barely warm and the pancakes had no fruit on them, even though each time we ordered we included fruit. I'll also say the food was mediocre, but that's not the point of this review. After one hour and twenty minutes we left after having to chase down the waitress for a third time. This was legitimately the worst service I have ever received. This diner is a typical diner--the food is what you would expect and there is a variety of options. My friends and I got a whole bunch of random food and shared a majority of it. If you're the type that could never decide between pancakes or French toast, you should definitely go for the pancakes. Our french toast got a bit hard after a while. Lots of food for the money. The mimosas were pretty strong. Had an early morning flight into Boston and we were starving so we came here before we started touring the city. I had the Deconstructed, which is 2 eggs any style, 2 buttermilk pancakes or French toast and your choice bacon, black forest ham or sausage links. I will write a more detailed review if I go back there again, but for this visit I kept it real simple with bacon cheese fries. They were very yummy, but it would take a special kind of moron to mess up chess fries. My friend got a "Rehab" meal (eggs, sausage, french toast and grits) and she said everything but the grits were very good. I think for the most part its normal diner fare, quick service and a decent sized menu. They were the only place open at 11pm after a "Bar review" law school event (which is basically just law students drinking at a local bar) but being from Long Island i've come to expect having a diner to go to after a night out (and night outs end at 2, not 11 back home). My favorite diner in Boston. Good food, kitschy decor, and they have those classic super heavy, white coffee mugs, except theirs have a picture of a pinup girl on them. It's a great place to go on a casual date. The only downside is there's not much parking, so you're better off taking the T or a cab. read more

Victoria's Diner has only recently come into my life, since the advent of Nala, my little truck with the dent in the tailgate. A whole new world of breakfast possibilities has opened up, since I'm too lazy to get on the train to go to breakfast, but I will absolutely drive, semi-awake, un-showered to breakfast Mecca. My Saturday/Sunday morning tradition has become to text Anouska B. to confirm that we're both awake, stumble down the hall, rub our eyes and blink at each other, then pile into Nala and off to Southie we go. Victoria's Diner is conveniently located right on Mass Ave, by the South Bay plaza, and while it looks like your run of the mill, standard little diner, I assure you, it is much more than that. After finding somewhere to park Nala, which can be a challenge, given the itsy-bitsy parking area behind Vickie's, we are always greeted with a warm smile and a 'hello' and seated right away. There are two dining rooms, so there is ample room for everyone, be you a party of two, or a party of six. Clean, cutely kitschy, simple without being shabby, you will feel comfortable here immediately. Victoria's menu spans from Omelette-Ville, to French Toast-Town. And everything in between. Hash, oatmeal, pancakes, bagels, breakfast sandwiches. Anything you want, any way you want it, they got it. Or they will do it for you. Every member of the waitstaff is friendly and helpful. Oh, and they have mimosas!! A thousand internets to you, Vickie's. A few of the all stars would be the pancakes- fluffy and delicious and exactly everything a diner pancake should be- the Nutella/banana french toast (which I got with strawberries instead because bananas are anathema to me), the Norwegian omelette (salmon, cream cheese, capers), and the Eggs and Cakes, which is two pancakes, two eggs any way, toast, and home fries. Oh LAWD are the home fries delicious. I have found every plate that I have ever ordered to be ENORMOUS, so beware ordering everything the hunger devils bid you order. Fancy-schmancy these dishes may be not, but filling they most definitely are. They tend to get a bit busier after 11:00 a.m., but that doesn't mean you will be forced to wait. I think the longest wait I've had was just the time it took for the waiter to peep at a table, grab two menus and seat us. If you're looking for an upscale, pinkys-out brunch experience, head to Newbury Street or downtown. I recently just moved to the area and was excited to live near this 24-hour diner! We went for breakfast at around 10:00am on a Saturday morning, we were a party of 4 and they were able to seat us right away. The service was very friendly and attentive. My whole party ordered milkshakes and they were delicious! Myself and a friend ordered Eggs Benedict, the eggs didn't have runny yolks and the hollandaise sauce wasn't great, which is why I took a star off. The other members of my party ordered an omelet and the steak and eggs breakfast. Both were happy with their dishes overall, nothing particularly delicious but good diner food. We will definitely be returning, I am looking forward to coming for a late night meal in the future. read more

I love Victoria's Diner. I've never been late night but I don't go hanging out in that area very late so there's that. Plenty of times for breakfast, though. I love the old diner atmosphere. I loooove their eggs benedict florentine. The grilled banana bread is superb. I suppose it is pricier than other breakfast spots but it's worth it to me. I can't recall any other local breakfast spot where they offer grits in place of homefries. Love it. I remember when I used to get excited about going to Victoria's Diner. Mind you, this review is for breakfast. I made a return today to show my boyfriend a Boston favorite and we left disappointed. Boyfriend ordered the Blackstone Benedict - eggs Benny with smoked bacon and I had the Corned Beef Hash Benny. The hollandaise lacked flavor and while the eggs were poached perfectly, and the English muffin toasted well, I was feeling subpar for the rest. Beef hash was ok, could have used more salt as I felt like I was just waiting for flavor the whole time. Home fries are large cuts of red potatoes with skin on, which the boyfriend enjoyed but I did not. His bacon Benedict received a "meh" when I asked him how it was. He also ordered a side of French toast which was a little too tough to say it was good. He spent more time cutting it into pieces than enjoying it. As for the service, our waitress was Dianne, who left us waiting to order for at least ten minutes. I understand it was busy but I didn't think it was slammed to justify the long wait. She gave us our bill and when she stepped to the register to put it in, I asked if we could please have a refill of coffee and she gave me an exasperated look. Service needs improvement. I really wish I had a great review, this place is usually excellent for a weekend brunch, or a late dinner. We eat at Victoria's frequently when we are out with friends and need brunch. However it is a different animal on a weekday apparently. We didn't even get seated. All the 2 & 4 top tables were empty, and there were 2 empty booths when we got there. With a family of 4, and a party of 2, ahead of our party of 3 we didn't think it would be long before we were seated. After we had been waiting about 10 minutes the staffer with the dark hair, and larger framed body type then announced if there were any parties of two they could just take one of the two top tables, the couple who had come in after us took that option the couple ahead of us did not. At about the 20 minute mark we decided to leave, seeing that there were now three empty booths, two 4 top tables, and all but one of the two top tables were empty. My BF went to the front and got the attention of the woman with the dark hair and large framed body type. He said to her, "I am not trying to cause any trouble, I was just curious, why we've been waiting over 20 minutes to get seated, while there have been at least 2 open booths for the last 20 minutes." She said "we are going by the list for seating." He said, " That is not what I am asking, I'm just saying no one has been seated for the last 15 minutes, and there have been open booths the entire time, why is that?' She responded rudely/aggressively, " we are seating people by using the list." He asked to speak to the manager, she did not respond to his request, she walked away and would not acknowledge him again. He waited a moment trying to get the attention of another of the wait staff, when that failed, he said in a louder tone of voice, " At some point Please I would like to speak to a manager," To that a different wait staffer said she get him a manager. A minute later a Middle aged woman of possible Indian descent came over to speak to him. She asked what she could do for him. He explained the situation, she apologized and explained there was a lot of new staff, he also pointed out that the wait staffer he had spoken too had been somewhat rude, She apologized again, and was very nice but did not offer a solution. At that point my BF left, and we went else where for our meal, and most likely won't be back for some time, and we caution others to do the same. Ridiculously rude waitress who treated me and my group of friends as if we were the gum on the bottom of her shoe. We didn't even receive a greeting, just a short "What do you want?" Literally not even a "Hi", "Thank you", or a "You're welcome". The food is bland and overpriced, and even if it was the best meal in the world, I wouldn't go for the sheer fact that it was probably the worst service I've ever encountered in my life. I L-O-V-E Diner food! Something about the atmosphere makes me feel safe and warm. I've always wanted to be a regular at a diner... god I wish I could afford to be. On an otherwise dead Sunday evening, we had half the diner to ourselves, and stupidly picked a seat where we couldn't see the TV. The menu is really amazing. The selection of fries (eggplant, sweet potato and regular) and milkshakes is above and beyond. And the fancy little teas were great too (they come in a real teapot y'all). The food came pretty fast, and the waitress was sassy and welcoming. We were totally BFF by the end of the meal. I had sweet potato fries, chocolate cream pie (OOOOOOO!!!), and beau had burger, regular fries, and pecan pie (too good to share, he noted). The Victoria is near my old house and Jesse and I used to have spurts of going there a lot. We often come here when we are entertaining children, because they have something for everyone. It has all the things a diner should have.....good breakfasts, cheap coffee, and grumpy waitresses that call you "hon". I don't ask for much, and those are the things that make me happy when I am at a diner. 10/6/7 Update! They have a new HUGE menu with lots more options that range above and beyond the standard diner fare. I need to try the nutella french toast. We had burgers for lunch today that were AWESOME. The service seemed a little nicer, but still a little on the slow side. They have also brought back the oldie's music, which disappeared last winter with the appearance of tv's. I went there on a Saturday morning, and I got a seat at the counter. I'm sure my server was having an issue or three. Complaining about other people's tips, and disappearing for great lengths of time. He let my coffee cup go empty , and I was at the counter! Unheard of to be honest. I was fuming, until my corned beef hash and eggs arrived. The food was a 5. Outstanding. There does to be a lot of drama there. Lots of servers standing around gabbing Perhaps it was just the day. Classic diner with plenty of pizazz and atmosphere. Nutella french toast. Something so trivial yet unheard of elsewhere. Simple, yet elegant. Sweet and filling. Fluffy and light. Gosh, how perfect it was to finish off our Saturday brunch with this delectable treat. For about $6 it was ridiculously large and definitely very filling. Great way for us to finish our meal after having their "Spanish omelette" with home fries. I'm not going to get picky over naming, but an omellete with onions, peppers, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese with salsa is "Mexican" not "Spanish". But that's ok, because I was craving an omelette like this since I've been in Boston. Perfect amount of veggies and cheese topped with some salsa, served with toast and home fries makes an excellent combo. All of this for a VERY VERY fair price. It's basics, done well, with prompt, just-friendly-enough service. We go here after the movies and it gets the job done every time - fries, onion rings, soups, salads, a monsterous slice of cake, whatever you're in the mood for, if you're in the mood for diner food. No one rushes us, the kitchen is always open (though the menu changes unexpectedly - sometimes it's the full deal, sometimes it's a smaller menu), the booths are comfortable and spotlessly clean and the vibe is always genial. Well, sometimes there's a couple working out some issues (and sometimes that couple is us), but nothing too dramatic. I once wrote a Yelp tip saying that this was a place where you could forget you were in Boston, and that's a weird thing to say, since there's all this BOSTON stuff on the walls.
