Good was the overstuffed burritos. We got two of those and a kids meal. The kid was still hungry...it is a taco sized quesadilla. We made a protein selection but it was not added to the item. The rice and beans were good but the total portion of a cup was, again, a bit slight. This was not a big kid, just a small kids meal. Got some gristle in the meat in the burritos and they also made on a wheat wrap when it wasn't asked for. I usually like victors and this wasn't a bad experience, but this is an honest review. If you see them , give them a try. Just don't drive out of your way to try it. read more

Tried this fast style Mexican spot that resembles chipotle but slightly less Americanized at a work luncheon. Prices are fair as are the portions. We were looking for something a little different in downtown Bakersfield. We had eaten at Athena's on 20th St. a few times. Victor's is right next door and we wanted to try it. It was 12:10 on a Friday, so it was crowded. Service was quick. We ordered the burrito. You get to build it yourself. We opted for the barbacoa, but the choices were chicken, shrimp, steak, chili verde, and a vegetarian. We added the Spanish rice, black beans, jalapeno, and we splurged with some guacamole. The food tasted good and well seasoned. There were definitely many more choices on the menu that are worthy of trying. We sat inside because all the outside seating was full. It was comfortable, perhaps a little noisy, but it was a very busy time. If you're looking for a quick lunch with good food, give Victor's a try. read more

You have to get the nachos!! I literally crave these things. Such fresh ingredients, and generous portions, I never feel guilty after eating at Victors. The service can be hit or miss with some of the girls being a little moody and cold shoulder-ish , but that won't stop me from enjoying the food. I especially love the cactus! No other place in town has a line up of ingredients that includes cactus and it's delicious. Definitely would recommend Victors for a casual yet flavorful meal. read more

My girlfriend had to bring me here, she thinks this spot is way better than chipotle and WHEW she was right! She told me to get victors way on my burrito which they fried cheese onto the tortilla and that made the burrito smack even more! The Barbacoa was GOOD but bit dry. They even have freakin cactus which was a pretty interesting topping but it's always nice to try something new. My burrito was at least a 2 pounder and man I tried to kill it all but I couldn't. Washed it down with an ice cold horchata which is always a go to whenever I stop for a burrito any where. I'll definitely be back again next time I come out to Bakersfield. My girl got a bowl with shrimp on top and the grilled shrimp was delicious. Service was super quick and I was sitting down eating in no time! Nice little shop and everyone was kind and helpful. Victor's downtown has been a local business that I've been going to for quite a while. The service is fast and friendly especially if you only have an hour for lunch and don't have time to sit down and order from a full menu. And for those that unfortunately, have an even shorter lunch period of 30 minutes, then Victor's set-up is definitely a must. If you've never been to Victor's, it's not your typical Mexican taqueria or the old mom & pop's cantina where you get your full combo plates of enchiladas or chile rellenos. The concept is simple, and dare I say it ... Chipotlesque. However, nothing about the taste and flavor at Victor's Mexican Grill is simple. The quality of ingredients used are superior in my opinion to Chipotle. Probably will get die hard Chipotle fans hate DMs for stating this but you know good quality, when you know good quality. I've had both and I'll choose Victor's each time. I live by Chipotle on Gosford and will never dare eat there again. I work about 8 miles from the nearest Victor's and would happily drive that far whenever I want my cravings satisfied. The proof is in the pudding which is why Victor's has opened 3 locations in Bakersfield since it's first store in Downtown location opened in 2011. The ambiance is fast and casual. The service is friendly and attentive. The food is fresh and delicious. read more

I've come to enjoy dining at Victor's Mexican Grill. This location in the downtown area is the site I prefer. Be warned, though, that there hours of operation are very limited. They are closed on weekends, and they close at 2:45pm Monday through Friday. No dinner time here. Each time here, my wife and I have shared Nachos. The serving is gigantic. The chips fill a tray the size of a Large pizza. I enjoy how you can customize and build your meal the way you want. Some toppings/fillings cost extra. My favorite meats are the barbacoa and the chile verde. Food has always tasted fresh. Nice to eat our meal in their clean seating area. Service has been courteous each time. Prices are affordable. Guess the only complaint would be that I cannot eat here for dinner. No big deal cause they have two other locations in Bako. read more

I genuinely enjoy the food from Victor's and I'm hands down addicted to their salsa! I hadn't ordered from this location in about 2 months. And I'm not sure if their quality has decreased or it's just me. The chicken looked a little "over cooked" compared to the one that Brimhall usually serves. (Take this with a grain of salt, as I clearly don't cook anything- hence why I'm ordering food.) Today I ordered a burrito, a large salsa and a cookie. When I bit into the breakfast burrito it was crunchy - like egg shells. Or maybe it's the salsa? Or maybe it was the spinach? Also I will say that I was quite disappointed with the cookie. I know inflation is real and companies do what they need to do to keep increasing profit margins - but the cookie is about the size of a "Chips Ahoy!". It's sill good, but I just wanted to mentally prepare you all for the size disappointment (again. Take this with a grain of salt, as I suck at measuring). I'll still eat at Victor's. It beats paying almost the same amount at McDonald's. However, I'll probably go out of my way to visit the Brinhall location moving forward. read more

Bam one star upgrade Why you ask? Keto freakin tacos! What a simple concept that is so helpful to some of us that are on keto but forget our lunch or are getting tired of the same old, same old. I didn't even know Victor's did this until I just googled for some options and someone online mentioned it, I was stoked. I went in and asked if the keto tacos (shells made of cheese not tortillas) were a thing and I was pumped to find out they were! The keto tacos are delicious, your choice of meat and whatever toppings you want in a delicious little cheese shell that they make on the grill. I've hit them up a few times for these delicious treats and I'll continue to do so. A+ Victor's nicely done staying ahead of the game and a leg up on Chipotle who removed their keto friendly cauliflower rice. Flavor was better in my more recent visits too. The barbacoa and steak were great, the chicken still a bit overcooked, dry and lacking flavor for me but everything else was pretty solid. read more

I seen this location while I was downtown over the weekend. Even with the road construction on 24th street I am glad I decided to give it a try. My first visit here a decided I would have a bowl with steak and all the toppings. Defiantly not disappointed, everything is very tasty. I was worried it was gonna be to much like a similar chain restaurant. The concept maybe the same but the food did defiantly better. Just visited the Victors downtown, wish I could say I was happy with my experience but I am not. When I got to the salsas I asked for pico and Nevaeh gave me a little half spoonful I said can I get the full spoon full and she said that was a full spoon and more would be extra. I paid almost $40 for mine and my husbands food. I didn't even get beans so I'm not completely understanding this restaurants logic. Anyways review the cameras it was around 12:10-12:13ish on February 3rd 2023 and watch the portions. Nevaeh was wrong and needs to work on her costumer service. Carolina witnessed it, as someone who has worked in the costumer service industry for years I would never tell a costumer they were wrong. Let's be honest, Chipotle got old. I came here spur of the moment for lunch. The location is actually great. Nice a quiet for downtown. It was very clean. The staff reminded me a bit of Chick-Fil-A: very clean cut, kind, and courteous. I got shrimp tacos and a steak burrito to go. The options they have for the food make the meal that much better. The shrimp was big and tasted fresh. The burrito was delicious down to the last bite. All the ingredients really did make this exceptional. Victor's is pretty good, but not great to me. What is good about it is it is a more healthy Mexican style offering. Lots of flavors, not too much lard. Why not great? I'm a Mexican Food Snob and LOVE LARD!!! Victors is a build your own bowl kind of place and I like that. You can also get made to order burritos. It is a spotless clean place, staff well trained and efficient, and tables/dining area very clean. During COVID restrictions, they are tailor made for excellent takeout, since the only thing different is where you sit. Their packaginhg makes take out safe and easy. I frequent both the downtown and the Brimhall location at least 2 to 3 times a month. However, on my visit this past Monday at the Brimhall location, I was less than satisfied. I ordered online through the toast tab app as I usually do. 3 orders of nachos and a burrito. On one of the nacho orders the protein (chicken) was very VERY scarce as well as with the burrito. Not sure if they ran out and didn't have a new batch ready but of course it's always too late once you have picked up your order and have gotten home to discover this. I always choose Victor's over Chipotle all the time. I would rather support a local establishment any day. Quality is always on point but I will think twice about doing an online order as opposed to personally watching my selections be prepared to insure accuracy and quality of the order. read more

We were fortunate to get invited to the O.Y.E. Tasting at Victor's Mexican Grill thank you Mckenzie! Started off with fresh chips and salsa! Excellent blend of their mild and hot sauce mixed together Very good! Just tried the first course, arroz con pollo...over the bell peppers and tomatoes, onions cooked in with the chicken on top of the rice...tasted like mi abuelita's/ grandma's!! Only on the ghost menu ask for it! Just tried the grilled steak enchiladas with a red sauce filled with cheese.. My wife enjoyed the dry red sauce on it, I like it more smothered in sauce..still very good! Again, more chips and salsa! awesome, very picante but not too much for a seasoned salsa experts like my wife and I. On to the third plate, shrimp en salsa blanco! The white wine sauce with spinach and mushrooms are excellent, with black beans and rice...very tasty! But only on Wednesdays:( ghost menu) loved the white sauce! Onto the fourth tasting...Victor's chicken taco with corn, pico de Gallo with a green salsa, on toasted cheese corn tortilla....this was my wife's favorite so far. I preferred the shrimp in white sauce or the arroz con pollo a little better than the taco. To each their own! Next up chili verde quesadilla! Very good tender pork wrapped in a flour tortilla with Jack cheese! Two thumbs up!! Steak nachos! Wow look at the pic! Huge and tasty!! It's loaded with steak sour cream avocado, corn, pico de gallo with black beans and steak!! Crazy good and did I mention huge?! And last but not least the Steak Picado! Perfecto! Grilled onions and squash in red sauce with plenty of steak! Thanks to Victor for having us and Mckenzie for hosting us, and to Lilly and Crystal for being such great servers!! Lastly I have to say to other yelpers! When the foods good and especially when it's free at an event such as O.Y.E. You should tip well! How sad to see people just get up and leave with out tipping! Looking for a quick lunch downtown in Bakersfield and this place was recommended. Sooo glad I found it! More variations than most other restaurants like it, and really friendly staff. Selected the barbacoa quesadilla and it is delicious! Just a bit of heat, and that's the way to do it, not just giving the meat a bath and calling it barbacoa. It's taking me a long time to write this review because I can't stop eating long enough to use both hands. The serving of guacamole is extra, of course, but there's a lot in the cup here at Victor's.
