From start to finish we had such an incredible experience. Honestly, one of the best dining experiences that we had in Chicago. We chose this place because it was close to Soldier Field and planned on having dinner before a game. Lisa was our waitress. She asked if we were heading to the game, which I think every customer in there was also heading to. Victory Tap is hands-down my favorite spot in the South Loop! It everything you want out of your go-to "neighborhood bar," without the sticky-bar feel. It's refined enough to be a versatile place for events, business meetings, casual meetings, or dates. The staff makes you feel like family, the service is great, and the cocktails and food hit the spot. If you read this and head over, be sure to tell Jamie, Ozla, Jeff, or Michelle that Q says, "hello," and they'll take great care of you! If you're sitting at a table, ask to sit with Bobby. My favorite Victory Tap cocktails include the Old Fashioned and St. Germaine Spritz. As for food...the fried calamari is a healthy portion, the cheese ravioli in vodka sauce is my FAVORITE. Sad to say but the food was very mediocre italian. We ordered the bacon agnolotti and the lasagna -- portions are definitely generous but the agnolotti was salty and just meh honestly... Lasagna was huge and definitely filling but so much meat and so little sauce / no bechamel...? Great spot in the South Loop. They have a really nice restaurant/bar for dining in, but this is my main takeout place. The food is always top notch and the wait is rarely longer than 25-30 minutes. They have really nice Italian dishes if you're looking for that type of meal. They also have really good pizza for something casual. I recommend the Elmwood Park pizza. Very good. The burratta appetizer along with the sausage and peppers appetizer is my usual order. Both big enough to be full meals on their own! Highly recommend this place. read more

If you're not a regular, expect less than stellar service. About a month ago we actually walked out after sitting at the bar for 15 minutes without getting so much as a menu or glass of water, just a couple of "hold on a minute" index finger gestures from one of the bartenders, who was apparently smitten with a young lady at the bar who had his rapt attention. The other bartender was busy schmoozing and taking pictures with another group of who I assume were also regulars, and who all looked like they were having a good time. We left and went up the street to the Firehouse, where menus were set down on the bar before we could sit down. Smash cut to tonight we ordered pickup on the way back from a festival, they completely missed the request for a caprese salad, instead, the word "calebrese" was printed on the receipt under the griglio misto order. I assume that is some kind of preparation. Miscommunication, not a biggie, but my sausage and peppers were undercooked - the sausage was pink inside, needed a minute in the microwave to fully cook. This is really sad to write - we used to have a great time there, but funny, going back the beginning of this review, as I recall the last time we were there with a big group, they didn't have any availability when I tried to book. Another couple we were going with were old-timers, who called an immediately got a table for 10 after dropping their names. Moral of the story - go with people that are well known there if you want a good experience. read more

Selecting a restaurant for a group of foodies is not easy, especially when you have a group of 9 out-of-town visitors that are hungry after a long day of travel... there are so many incredible options in Chicago to choose from and I wanted to please everyone. After doing a lot of researching on Yelp, I decided to take a chance with Armand's Victory Tap, that is - if they could accommodate the group. I called to be sure, and was pleased to hear that voice on the other end of the phone saying "no problem." Several hours later, our party arrived. The restaurant was cozy and had a great vibe. Exactly what you want when going out for a family style Italian meal... Ahmed was our server and took great care of us throughout our meal. And quite the memorable meal it was! We started out with family style appetizers including "Grandma's Meatballs" and Eggplant Rottolo, the Stuffed Artichoke, Caesar Salad, and Veggies, and none of it disappointed. We had some wine to wash it down and then it was entree time! From the Bolognese, Linguine with Clams, Jumbo Stuffed Shells, Cavatelli Vodka Sauce, Lasgna, etc... to the Eggplant Parm, Chicken Saltibocca, and Pizza, everyone in our group left stuffed and happy! Needless to say, we didn't save room for dessert, but it was totally fine. Armand's Victory Tap delivered. Pricing is moderate, especially considering the large portion sizes. Victory Tap Chicago put my tummy in a happy place! I went in on a Saturday evening with my husband and 12 friends. A friend of mine made reservations and my husband and I arrived about 15 minutes early. I liked that they were able to seat my husband and I, and we didn't have to wait for the whole party to arrive. Our server was awesome, I wish I recalled her name so I could give her a shout-out. She was rattling off a bunch of awesome cocktails they had that evening, but I had to put on my earmuffs because I am expecting and everything sounded SO good! I told her it all sounded good, but couldn't enjoy any of it. She offered to make me a mocktail and it was awesome (she even comped it). She was sweet and said she would put it in a wine glass so I could feel like a part of the group, haha. She even told me how all their cheese is pasteurized, before I could even ask! She was on top of it! As our party arrived, we ordered a few appetizers; margherita pizza, stuffed mushrooms, grilled calamari, and the sausage and peppers. All of these items were very tasty! The garlic bread they provided at the table was soooooo good!!!! I wish I would've asked for some more! :) For the entree, I was struggling to pick because everything sounded so good. I landed on the papperdelle bolognese! And oh my goodness, it was sooooo tasty!!!! I LOVED it! The portion was pretty big and I had enough to bring home...maybe it's because we had a good amount of appetizers as well. I think I have a bottomless stomach when it comes to pasta! Haha! Anywho, I tried my husband's eggplant parm and it was yummy! I also tried some of the orecchiette rapini and sausage. That was soooo good as well! This lovely restaurant serves great food and amazing cocktails for $12-$13. I love their pastas and salads. The Eggplant Stack Salad and Burrata Salad are superb - perfect for a light dinner unless you want to pig out on their delicious pastas! My favorite cocktails are their Pomegranate Cosmo and Victory Vodka. I feel it's a great date spot as the beautiful dark wood interior and low ambient lighting makes you feel cozy. It's also quiet even when the entire place is full. Service is excellent and all their bartenders are friendly if you sit at the bar. It's a gem in the South Loop neighborhood. read more

The bread plate is one of the best features since it offers 4 types to try. All were tasty! Our server was good, but it's a loud place so sometimes we had to yell a little. We ordered a Caesar salad (with anchovies) and meat ravioli with vodka sauce (per waiter's recommendation). He was right; the sauce was very good! Boyfriend really enjoyed the salad. The food is decent mostly but they are so inconsistant!. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes terrible. The management never really makes anything right in terms of rectifying botched orders and they really come across as just not caring at all. I really hope that the "Hello South Loop" Facebook group will stop recommending this place because with a steady stream of traffic, there is zero incentive for them to actually change anything for the better. If there were better places for Italian food in the South Loop, we would be there. We get the SAME exact thing 90% of the time and each and every time, it's DIFFERENT and yet we go back in hope that we will get that one dish that hit's the spot when the chef is having a good day. I will also say that dining in is VERY different compared to takeout. In terms of dine-in, they are careful and follow instructions but when it comes to take out, anything goes because they know that you have already walked out the door and chances are that you won't trek back to get the order rectified. WOW WOW and one more time for those in the back WOWWWWW!! Looked this place up on yelp decided to come in after a UIC baseball game and grab some food for ourselves and our kids! I am so happy we took a chance on this fantastic eatery. The ambience was fantastic we arrived a little after our reservation time and they weren't able to seat us right away but offered us a great comfy seat in their lounge area where we sipped on cocktails while we waited about five minutes or so for our table. Bobby was our waiter and we had a ball!!! All of our food was fantastic! Giant portions we left there stuffed and were not able to enjoy dessert. We definitely will be back. I hope Bobby is always our server and nothing about the place ever changes. We are visiting from California and will come back every single time were in town. read more

I sent it back for an Arnold Palmer and they never took it off of the bill and when I asked about it, our waiter, Danny, said I gave you a new drink. So, I guess they charge $10 for an Arnold Palmer. Restaurants who are so clueless about their Non-Alcohol patrons are restaurants that I will not frequent again. The fact that people are looking for NA options is pretty mainstream now so I think restaurants should be aware of that. A classic old school Italian restaurant with great food, a friendly and accommodating staff. The place was packed and lively with an energetic vibe. Joking around with our server I asked how can an Italian place not have puttanesca sauce on their menu and to my delight she responded "we can make it for you just tell me how you like it". What a beautiful thing So I had the Salmon puttanesca over spaghetti extra spicy for good measure. My bride had her usual standby, the chicken parm. Hey hey, We had the pastas - Penoni ala vodka w/ crumbled sausage - Papperdelle bolognese with the big meatball I liked the penoni pasta, thick and al dente. The papperdelle had more of a thin texture, which is just my preference but I wasn't a fan. But I'm also not a fan of angel hair pasta. It's not that it's bad, its just preference. My boyfriend ate it and liked it. I liked the meatball. It was firm and very tasty. Food-not good at all! The award winning bacon pasta, orrechiette with sausage and rappini, skirt steak, salmon, and pork chop, and octopus, were at best a C. So bland, lacked seasoning and came out cold. The service-well we were there for 21/2 hours and another 20 just to get our vallet car to leave. Btw, the same vallet guy is the same person who also vallets the next door restaraunt. So plan on waiting even more for your car. The one star is for our server who tried his best. What a pleasant surprise to find this amazing local spot so close to home! Tbh always thought this place was a dive bar based on the name and outdoor signage, until one night, while perusing nearby food options on Yelp, I stumbled upon their menu and thought what the hell, let's give it a try. And I'm so glad I did! We ordered the meatball appetizer, bolognese, rigatoni alla vodka, and the elmwood pizza. Honestly everything was scrumptious, but the real winners for me where the meatballs and pizza! We weren't initially going to get the pizza but I am so glad we did because it was amazing! Thin crust, with italian sausage AND beef, and fresh giardiniera omg it was cooked to perfection with the best crunch factor, and the perfect amount of heat. Honestly one of the better pizza's I've had in Chicago! The meatballs were also very good. They were large, and you can tell they're homemade. The maninara was chunky and fresh! The other two pastas were pretty good as well, although taste similar to dishes I can make at home, so probably wouldn't order again. Overall, thoroughly impressed with Victory Tap, and so glad I discovered this place! We did carry out, so next time I might make the quick walk over to dine in because the interior was cute! Full disclosure by the name, I assumed this was a bar. Well this is a bar and then some more. We came here after a friends recommendation last Saturday after the DePaul/Butler game. I did not have lunch and had dinner plans a few hours later, so I just stuck with apps. Sticking with apps was a great call as the 4 of us got to sample various items from Victory Tap. The 1st was the Fried Calamari which was their lightly battered & flash fried served with marinara and the server suggested to go calabrese style which was a win! Calabrese style included some spicy little peppers which complimented the Calamari. Then we also shared the Sicilian Chopped Salad, which was amazing and fresh! Then we wrapped up our 3rd app by going with their Mama's Meatball Salad called "Joe's Mama's Meatball Salad". It included 4 pair meatballs which included some goat cheese which was amazing. They have private rooms upstairs along with the restrooms and elevators if you can't make the hike up the stairs. They have a nice fireplace by the windows which makes for a cozy experience. Street parking is available and i'm not sure if they have valet but I wouldn't see why not. I would definitely come back again! Also make sure to try their garlic based/parm bread they offer. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I went on a Saturday night and we were seated right away. When my food came, my ravioli was cold in the center. I had eaten one but only realized it was cold when I ate the last bite that was from the center. To make sure they were all cold I cut another one in half and the center was also very cold in that one. I flagged someone down and they sent it back. About 10 minutes later, my waiter came back with a plate of ravioli but when I looked at it it was my same ravioli that I sent back (with the cut in half ravioli and everything). There were only 4-5 ravioli to begin with so I was a little stunned. Pretty sure that's a health code violation to heat up food that a customer has touched already which is very concerning. There were a few other minor hiccups, but those are no biggie since their kitchen seemingly doesn't follow basic food handling rules and isn't well run. Aside from the ravioli being cold in the center, the ravioli was just ok. I definitely wouldn't pay $20 for it, the place seems a little over priced for what it is. read more
