This is place has very good pho. I think their broth is light without skimping out on flavor. Some other places leave the mouth with a slick oily feel. I got the short rib boneless pho, the meat was plentiful and the portion was huge. It also wasn't too busy for a Saturday night around 6:30 and the food came out quick. Would recommend!
Came here for a quick lunch near the office. The inside had plenty of tables for parties of any size. Service was fast and friendly. The soup base was a little too sweet for my liking, but otherwise a solid pho option in the area.
This place is so good! We got the broken rice and pho with beef & meatball. Everything is authentic tasting and we're from SGV. Would definitely recommend in the SD area.
Viet Nom is a quick-stop shop for a hearty and filling bowl of pho. We walked into this place expecting a Vietnamese restaurant but was welcomed to a modern organized pseudo-cafe equipped with bar seating, aesthetic decorations, and a photo-op wall. The menu was succinct with only a couple items, which helps with my choice anxiety (opposed to the typical Vietnamese restaurant with 80 menu items). The beef ball & short rib pho ($18) had great flavor. The beef had a nice chew and the meatballs were filling. The broth was on the salty side. The (free!) Thai Tea was sweet! Our server was attentive and quick. For managing the entire shop he did a great job. Didn't realize this place was owned by the same people at Yun Tea & Steamy Piggy. There are other family-owned Vietnamese shops if you care about that.
This review was from a visit last year. My family and I were in the mood for some good pho and Yelp led us to this location. Service: The young lady that assisted was very nice but she had a companion with her (not staff) that she was having conversation with. I didn't realize that we had to hand over our cup to have our water refilled (or was she supposed to go over to the table?). Either way, the place was small enough that I didn't really have to venture to far, and after handing over the glasses, they were refilled immediately. 4 of 5 stars. Food: We ordered the most basic off their pho menu: Short Rib pho. Although the broth was very good, the noodles and meat IMO was a bit lacking; good taste but lacking versus the places I've been to. 4 of 5 stars. Overall: As a quick fix, this place will do. If you expect more, look elsewhere or order an extra bowl as they serve just one size of pho: between a SM and Med.
We stopped by Viet Nom for a quick lunch before heading to the zoo. The space immediately stood out for how clean and nicely put together it was. Bright, tidy, and comfortable without feeling busy. We ordered the Pho Tai, Pho Nom, and an iced coffee. My Pho Nom came with three big short ribs and meatballs, and it felt like a generous bowl. The short ribs were tender with good flavor, and the meatballs had a nice, springy texture. The broth was smooth and rich but not too salty, and it stayed hot through the meal. The Pho Tai was very tasty as well, with thin slices of beef that cooked perfectly in the broth and stayed tender. The iced coffee was strong and sweet, with the condensed milk adding a creamy finish that balanced the savory soups. Service was friendly and efficient. We were greeted right away, and the food came out at a steady pace without any long wait. Overall, it was a solid lunch stop. Good portions, comforting flavors, and a relaxed atmosphere. If you're especially hungry, the Pho Nom with the short ribs is a great choice.
Updating my review to 4-stars. Flavor is still on-point, but our meat was very tough... that I think they cooked ahead of time and heated up, versus having the rare beef pieces. A little disappointed with that, since I barely ate the meat. But the flavor of the broth is so good, that I'll come back and consider this one of my favorite pho spots!
Service was excellent! Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Food was also very good. We ordered spring rolls and brisket pho. Food came quickly. Family enjoyed every bite. Would come again if in the area. Parking was a breeze. Place is not that big but turn around time is quick.
If you're looking for a great bowel of pho, come give Viet Nom a try. Their featured bowl of pho, Pho Nom, offers two bone-in beef rib along with sliced short rib, sliced brisket, and meatballs in pretty well flavored broth. With the highlight obviously being the bone-rib rib, the meat was so tender that if fell off the bone immediately with the slightest touch. The side veggies were also very fresh and complimented the dish well. The restaurant itself is pretty cozy with offering a handful of tables and bar seating. Still, the waitress the day I went was very friendly and quick with the service. If I find myself in the area again, I could see myself coming back for another nice warm bowl of pho.
Great first visit. Came in for a late night dinner at 9pm on a Saturday. No wait but a full restaurant. Ordered egg rolls and their boneless Short Rib pho. Everything was super tasty and fresh. The broth and the meat were flavorful; I didn't even bother adding sauces to it. Filling portion. They ran out of ice when we first arrived but the two servers handled it well. Ice was ready 10 min after. The kitchen also forgot to make our egg rolls but we wanted them anyway. Glad we did cause they hit the spot too; piping hot. Service was friendly from the two gentleman, no complaints. Will def be back.
Came for a last minute dinner since traffic was bad heading south. We ordered the pho nom, short rib, spring rolls, and chili tamarind wings. The food was beautifully plated. The pho came out nice and steamy. It came in one bowl size, which was plenty. The broth had a strong cinnamon taste that caught us by surprise. We definitely enjoyed the noodles and the meat. James really enjoyed the wings! The spring rolls were massive and each cut came with 2 pieces of shrimp. Service was quick and the ambiance was nice with cute decor.
Had the pho nom special and it was delicious. The beef rib was tender and flavorful. Highly recommended

Came here randomly with my family. It was a good sign that the menu was pretty limited, as they usually means that they specialize in those items. Sadly, not the case. The restaurant itself was basically a converted counter serve place, and the servers were both very kind. The broth is sweet but for the price tag it's not worth the hype. Similarly, I got the bun thit nuong and the portion was almost laughable compared to other Vietnamese establishments. It was only after did we realize this is the same group that loves to gloss over cuisine, like Flama Llama and Formoosa. read more

Wanted Pho after having too much Mexican the last few days. Cute little place in shopping center with large parking lot but mostly full. Trinity seated us within 10 mins on Friday night which was great. Love the short ribs options and prices were really good considering the portions and meat quality. Ordered wings, spring rolls, summer rolls, and pho. As you can see from the pictures, all presented very nicely and super yummy. Sabrina was great serving us and everyone was very friendly. read more

The pho was decent, especially for La Jolla. I should include that I'm used to pho in San Jose which has one of the best pho places in California. One of the main perks of this place is that they stay open "late" by San Diego standards of 10 pm. We actually tried going to a few other Vietnamese spots beforehand, but they either closed early or shut down 20-60 minutes before their posted hours, so we ended up here. The food itself was okay not amazing, but not bad either. Unfortunately, the Thai tea was a letdown. It tasted very watered down, like mostly ice with barely any tea flavor, and it didn't seem sweet at all, almost like the sugar was forgotten. On a positive note, the service was great, which definitely helped the overall experience and is the main reason I'd give this place 3 stars. If you're looking for something to eat on a Friday night when most places are already closed, this isn't the worst option but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

Came here after a long day in the hospital - I just wanted a nice hot dinner in peace - ordered a nice bowl of pho and it was delivered quickly and the broth was still very hot - also ordered a fancy jelly drink for my dessert though rn I can't remember the flavor - but I sat in silence enoying each spoonful of that delicious savory broth with the noodles that unstuck from each other (it can be a problem!), and the nice mint and bean sprouts. So happy to have this for my dinner after a very long day. read more

Viet Nom is a rather non-descript pho restaurant in a strip mall in UTC. The place consists of a few tables and about half a dozen chairs at a bar. Nothing special but you're here for the pho. I've enjoyed pho all over California and also Saigon and Hanoi. Came for lunch and the menu is limited. It's the food that really excels here. I the pho broth is excellent. Full of subtle flavors on top of the beef flavor. I had the pho with brisket and sirloin, and the beef was fantastic. Perect thickness and extremely tender. It comes with a healthy plate of bean sprouts, Asian basil, cilantro, jalapeno and lime. Perhaps the best pho that I've had in San Diego. At least recently. Grilled pork spring rolls were very good with lots of fresh vegetables. Service was fine, and as expected for a family run joint. Viet Nom is in the Renaissance Mall and the parking here is extremely difficult and the lot will be full between 12:00 and 1:00 but seems to clear significantly after 1:00. Highly recommended! Especially if you're a pho aficionado. read more

Viet Nom is interesting in that they're trying to be authentic but totally fall short. 1. The counter has a container of Thai Tea very close to me and my food. 2. The Galaxy lemonade was barely possible, Steamy Piggy has a superior version. 3. The photo on the menu of short rib Pho does not look like what I was given,which was very short on meat and had way too much broth. 4. The overall taste was fine but Not authentic. read more

The bean sprouts and jalapeños were pretty soggy idk why. The spring rolls were nice and crunchy, a bit oily. Overall I'd try this place again... but hopefully they don't forget the short rib next time! The spot was cutesy and not your typical mom and pop shop. We got the pho nom, and it was so good. it was honestly so fresh and light. there wasn't an overwhelming amount of msg like other pho spots. the flavor was very flavorful and the mean was next level. the meat balls we're good but the bone-in short rib, sliced short rib, sliced brisket were SOOOO good. so soft and literally melted in your mouth. the bone in beef was fall off the bone and so tender. by far my favorite and the price was good too! We got che for dessert, and it was really good, not as sweet as i wanted but you need to wait for the ice to melt and mix in with everything. overall service was good, our server was really nice and ambiance reminds me of an asian fusion restaurant. there is a smaller menu but they make up for that by perfecting their meals. read more

i was visiting san diego for the weekend and took my parents here since they were craving viet food. the decor and vibes of the place are very cute! they had amazing customer service and the waiter was very kind. pho short rib: 4.5/5 - the pho was pretty good and so were the meats! i added sriracha and hoisin to enhance the flavor. bun thit nuong: 3.5/5 - i usually love this dish but it felt like this one was a bit lacking. the egg rolls were a bit sour? the meats were the better part of the dish we came at around 5pm on monday and were seated immediately. after we finished eating at 6pm, people were starting to wait outside, so it does get busy during dinner time! the parking lot is super spacious. overall this location was very cute and their food was pretty decent. im biased to the pho from san jose but happy with this experience! read more

This is my second time here. The environment is not very clean, and the floors are extremely dirty. On top of that, the bowl they gave me had a chipped rim, which is incredibly dangerous. I honestly don't understand how that happens. I won't be coming back. read more
Food: It hits the spot! We are visiting from out of town and were craving something soupey. I got the pho short rib and my bf got the bun thit nuong. I really enjoyed the pho broth, meat was tender, noodles were cooked just right. My bf and I also liked the bun thit nuong but the pork could be more flavorful. The eggrolls that came with it were crispy (tasted like home). Only con was the thai basil that came with the pho wasn't that fresh. Drinks: passionate fruit lemonade was a perfect balance of sweet and sour. Parking was easy it was in a plaza. We did walk in on a Friday night and there wasn't a wait. The interior design was really cute and we both thought the "Viet Nom" name was creative. read more

this place is super fast. there were many open tables and our food came out 10 minutes after we ordered. we got the short rib pho. the soup is pretty good and they give you an extra sauce that is delicious. however, this place is a bit pricey compared to other pho restaurants. read more

I'm only inclined to give a "good rating" review bc of the incentivized free drink but I'm not sure if this pho is worth $19..... and I'm not sure if I'd come back Pho broth is watered down. The taste is very mediocre, as the same taste as you can find it all the area where the main customers aren't viet or Asian at all. For the Bun Thịt Nuong to be good it's usually thanks to the fish sauce... but their fish sauce is so bad and too salty. the nước mắm of bun thịt nướng is so not there at all Okay yeahhh I'm sure I won't come back read more

We came in around 9pm on a Friday night- the restaurant was full but not too crowded. Parking is very easy in this plaza, Arteazen next door is also a plus! This place wouldn't be great for a large group as seating is relatively limited. Short rib boneless pho 8.5/10 The broth was so good! Slightly more onion flavor than other places we've tried, but a really rich beef flavor. Added the lemongrass sate and jalapeños for extra heat. Vermicelli 8.5/10 The fish sauce they use is a bit spicier and more acidic than other places I've tried. Not necessarily a bad thing but just a different flavor than what I was expecting. The pork is really well cooked and tender. I liked that there was more noodles than lettuce as opposed to other places with shredded salad. read more

Viet Nam is located just 10 mins from La Jolla marine life sanctuary and we were craving Pho noodles after the beach. A warm bowl of broth is the ideal comfort food. We enter the cute noodle shop, greeted by sweet smile from Sabrina our waitress. Our ordered food came piping hot, and everything we ordered tasted delish. The Pho with rib was fall off the bone, the broth tasty and the noodles yum. Also ordered the Bun, which had delicious pork with egg roll. I asked Sabrina for extra lettuce in my bowl and it came out just the way I asked. Our drinks were good too,, we had yuzu lemonade and thai tea, which complemented our lunch. Our family enjoyed our meal! Would highly recommend anyone in town for vacation to stop by. Our teenagers said, it's all very good. Five stars! read more

A cute little restaurant in this strip mall. Parking is a bit limited but we snagged a front row spot since we came here for a later dinner around 8pm. Server was quick to get us seated and our order in. Everything is piping hot and it's nice they bring a plate of the side veggies to add to the pho as I don't like any veggies in mine. They have Sriracha on the table as well. Egg rolls had I think pork and veggies but mainly pork heavy and they were perfect to dip into the sauce. Pho was packed with flavor and the noddles were so yummy; meat cooked perfectly. Broth has a great taste and I kept wanting more yet I couldn't finish my bowl. The meat from the pho bowl was so amazing. I think it's the best brisket from a pho place I've ever eaten. Whoever rolled the spring rolls did such a bad job, it was so loose that everything fell apart and was very hard to take a bite. Service was very slow, given there was only one server on a Friday, she was very nice and friendly, but food took about 20 mins to reach our table. Really solid Vietnam food! We tried so many dishes and all the meat was very tender. The pho soup was so flavorful! It really surprised us how flavorful and rich it was. The noodles were very bouncy. I especially liked the vermicelli noodles! Tony & Jaylen were our servers and they were very welcoming, attentive, and kind! The environment is very chill and the restaurant is very clean. Dog friendly? Says it in the details but looks like there are no photos that show outside tables.
I don't remember there being outside tables when I went but I honestly wouldn't recommend, as the restaurant is very tiny. There wouldn't be anywhere to put your dog.
