Stopped in over the holidays for lunch and the place was humming. Well, shouting would be more like it, it's LOUD in there, but surprisingly wasn't hard to hear our Server or each other. Love the nice variety on the menu, and the daily specials. I couldn't resist trying the special Mac n Cheese, which was a Mexican one. Boy was it good! Creamy, with a perfect balance of added elements to give it a Mexican flare without being overbearing. Super rich, so I got a couple meals out of it. Cool venue in a convenient area. Nice bar with around 100 beers on tap. They are willing to help you choose with samples. They feature specials of the day with themed burgers and Mac & Cheese dishes. Village Draft House is one of those places that's right in the middle: neither great nor bad, but it's convenient and an easy option. It reminds me of an American pub with beers, burgers and sandwiches. Plenty of choices for lunch with some outdoor seating, you'll find something to keep you happy. Decor is clean, service is leisurely. The best compliment I can give it is that you won't be disappointed. But when I do go out to eat (which is way too often), I like to have food and a experience that stands out a bit so the Village Draft House doesn't do much for me. I've been going to get a beer after my Wednesday golf game for 4 years. Today was different. The person behind the bar was surly and totally disinterested in our orders. When I ordered a second beer it came in a smaller serving. When I asked about it, I got the "don't ask, just accept that we shouldn't have given you the larger serving in the first place". I had a late dinner and beers with friends here on a Friday night and really enjoyed it. I had the OMG Chicken sandwich with a side of mac & cheese and both were very good and very comforting. The OMG Chicken is a sandwich on a Bavarian pretzel role with garlic aioli, seasoned chicken breast, avocado salsa, bacon, potato chips and was fantastic. The service wasn't particularly quick, but it was reasonable and it was a laid-back evening anyways. Their menu isn't vegan friendly but I got the eat your veggie sandwich without cheese, and I just hope the bread was vegan. It was okay I could tell some of the veggies were supper fresh; but it's a bar that's not know for fresh veggie sandwich. Heads up, this place is not friendly toward people who cannot wear masks due to medial exemptions or otherwise. My mask needed to be washed and I forgot to grab another one. I was told I needed to have a mask on and when I said I didn't have one, I was told I can't be in there without one. There was a whole outside section where I had to stand to wait for my friends, no one had masks on out there either, and we were never offered a table outside nor was I offered a disposable mask. If you have someone in your group who cannot wear a mask or forgot theirs, I recommend against this place. We went across the street to Cantina 18 and were treated MUCH better. Came back after 10 months and I am pleasantly excited to come back again. I have decided that my last visit was merely the server; and this time Dan was engaging and energetic. Village Draft House is located in the always nice to look at, always inconvenient to reach Cameron Village. You know you're at the right bar when the drink menu is bigger than the food menu. Village Draft House features an absolutely immense selection of beers. Their drink menu gives you descriptions of all of these beers. For fellow root beer fans, Village Draft House has root beer on tap. Note that you are only given one refill on this root beer which may or may not be the fault of a certain Asian dude who Yelps. For food selections, pick any of their equally appealing sandwiches, and you won't be disappointed. The only thing greater than their sandwiches is their seasoned fries. It might be downright sacrilegious to say, but I would put these fries on the same level as Chuck's. I have never been disappointed by any of my visits to the Draft House. For a place to watch the game, hang out, or eat a nice meal, Village Draft House is one of the best choices that there is. Because a lot of the Triangle closes down by 9:30, any thoughts of good food past this hour should begin with Village Draft House. read more

Pretty much your standard pub grubs: sandwiches and burgers, and also meat dishes. Interestingly they also offer pitas, which from what I heard was pretty amazing, and so were their burgers, which would be made to your order. I chose a strange concoction that I have not seen before: Gyro Spinach salad. [Taste] I ordered a gyro spinach salad, and I tasted... gyro meat, greens, cheese, spinach, and dressing... so basically I got exactly what I imagined it would be: a gyro on a plate, without the pita; strange thing is that, instead of pita, they put a cube of cornbread with my salad. Cornbread? where did that came from? Granted, it does taste pretty moist and sweet, but still? with gyro? who decided that? Dropped by old-faithful with the parental units in tow to grab some early-dinner grub. We were all seated fairly quickly in a booth by the bar (booths are the way to go). We had great seats for viewing the Olympic games, but the captions were blocking the scoreboard in the upper left corner -- not much you can do to fix that. Major points to our waitress for her uber friendliness and fast-paced return with an order of fried pickle chips that my dad hungrily (and a little impatiently) ordered. My dad is one of those people whose irritability goes up with the hungrier he is (and he gets quite scary). I decided to try the Chicken Salad Melt this time with a garden salad on the side. Yes, I fought the urge to order fries (didn't want to be a fatty when my family all ordering "healthy" sides). We all got our food pretty quickly -- just as we were finishing off the last few pickle chips. My Chicken Salad Melt, unfortunately, was anything BUT a melt. There was also no "melted cheddar" on this sandwich, but it did have an addition of chopped pecans (which I liked). I will give kudos for the salad dressing coming in a container on the side -- I like being able to control how many extra calories I'm about to intake on my "healthy" salad. Hehe My boyfriend let me steal a taste of his Founders Breakfast Stout, and holy schnikey was it delicious!! It tasted of spectacular chocolatey coffee goodness -- I HIGHLY recommend (and I will order a glass or two next time)! UPDATE: I returned to VDH for a second visit to see if things might be different this time around. (See Original Review below.) I sat at the bar this time. The bartender was prompt and friendly. She got me my ice tea right away. She took my order and the food was out promptly. The Roadhouse burger was good and cooked as ordered. I was seated promptly and a waiter showed up almost immediately and ask to take my drink order. I ordered Ice Tea as I had to go back to work. He gave me the menu, we discussed the specials, and he said he would 'give me a minute to look it over'. That was the last I saw of him. I read through the menu. Decided what I wanted to order and sat the menu on the table. I then sat there drinking my Tea. After a couple of minutes I finished the Tea. I then sat there with the menu sitting on the table and an empty glass sitting in front of me - for 8 minutes - without anyone stopping or even acknowledging me. I realize that 8 minutes isn't an incredibly long time, but as I was on my lunch break from work it was eating into my break time. And for me, one of the reasons I go to an indoor, sit down restaurant is mainly the service. And there wasn't much here. I got up and gave a dollar to the Hostess at the front door to cover the Tea that I had and I told here I was leaving, and why. She offered to get the Manager for me but I told her no that I just wanted to go. I'm always looking for the good burgers in town, and Village Draft House is on point when it comes to their burgers. Located in Cameron Village, it is close to pretty much everything else. Very nice to do some shopping and stroll down to the draft house for drinks and dinner. They have ample seating both inside and outside. The several times I have gone, all of the servers have been very attentive. Their beer selection is great (99 beers on tap!) So if you are around Cameron Village and need an extensive beer list, this is your place. Came to this place twice. The beer selection, like so many places i went to in Raleigh, was above average. I believe 100 taps. I had some very tasty IPA's here. Our bartender was an extremely friendly and helpful gentleman. We tried the breaded pretzel cheese curds (YUM!!), Pork nachos (also YUM!!), and the chipotle chicken quesadillas (Pretty yum, lol). Came here with my family when I was visiting them in Raleigh. Awesome spot with some good service! I wish I would've gotten our waiter's name. He was beyond friendly and personable, we loved it! We had my two toddler-aged nephews in tow, and he was great with them as well. Kudos! The beer selection was quite vast, and I almost got lost in looking at the impressive brew menu. The two beers I ordered were authentic to NC and were both very good. The restaurant is located in a large strip mall. It was large with an old-timey vibe, flanked by large booths and a huge bar area! The place was 3/4 full when we came here. It was loud inside, but I enjoyed it overall. I ordered the Fish 'N Chips entree, and the portions were cavernous. I was given a ginormous fillet along with house-made tartar and coleslaw. It was very good. I've been here multiple times and they're always slow, but today seemed to be their attempt at setting a new record. The world cup was on and we came in around half time. We ended up leaving when the game was over. It took almost an hour for them to make sandwiches and we only got our food when we threatened to leave. I guess that's the secret with this place. You can place an order but they dont actually take initiative to give it to you until you are good and angry. We took the time to talk to the manager and she seemed more confused about why we were angry than anything else. She didn't charge us for our food, but that hardly mattered. She seemed to want to blame the whole situation on the waiter and the kitchen and didn't take ownership of the fact that her team was a literal sinking ship. Her team. I love this place! The bf and I are from Virginia; we visit our friends in Rocky Mount every month or so, and I always ask them if they can take us here. It's an hour away from our friends house, but that's really how much we enjoy visiting here. The beer menu is huge, and they always have cool seasonal drafts. They carry some things from B. Nektar, which I can't get on tap back home. My go-to is the Zombie Killer, and I had the pleasure of trying the Stupid Man Suit as well. Both are very awesome ciders, I would highly recommend getting the Zombie Killer at least once [it's worth the $9]. Another draft favorite of mine is the Raleigh Hidden Pipe Porter with Coffee [such a smooth, bold, yummy porter]. I was also a HUGE fan of the Triangle Lambic, but my friends told me that particular brewery shut down so Village does not carry it anymore. Definitely not Village's fault, but it was nice that they carried it for so long so I could enjoy it! The food here is pretty decent too! The menu has all of your typical bar food, but I'm very partial to the burgers. The service and consistency of the food are always spot on, I never have any complaints.
