We here this morning to try out the new restaurant in Downtown Lincoln. The inside was very clean, neat, and updated compared to Awful Annie's. We were very warmly welcomed by the hostesses, all of whom were extremely friendly and welcoming. Once we sat down the booths were extremely comfortable and were probably brand new. It was a nice and bright, open, and more modern atmosphere. However, that was our last positive experience and the only bright spot to an otherwise unremarkable and disappointing experience. It took our waitress over 10min. to approach the table and when she did she was very cold and unwelcoming. We ordered the Crab Cale Benedict and the Shop Omelet (which I asked to be a scramble), as well as a kids pancake, bacon, and eggs. When our food came out the waitress said the omelet was made wrong and it's be out later, but "at least you can feed your kids!" The Crab Cake Benedict was extremely horribly made as the main ingredient of a Benedict is poached eggs. The Crab Cake itself was delicious, but the poached egg was hard boiled not poached. We showed the waitress and she said, "Well next time order it less done." To which we said a poached egg is only made one way, hence it being poached. She just said oh yeah, shrugged and walked away. We also mentioned the pancake being slightly burned (the bottom was very dark and it was hard to cut, yet again the waitress said, "thank you for letting me know", and again walked away. About halfway through the meal the omelet came with the cheese nowhere near melted on top. When the bill came there were no discounts for the improperly made Crab Cake Benedict nor the delay in the Omelet nor the burned pancake. We absolutely will not be back after this experience. One would think that the restaurant that replaced the community favorite of Awful Annie's would be cognizant of the way to treat customers who would be extremely loyal as we were to Awful Annie's. Additionally, the food had a long way to go to even be near the quality we have been used to for years. The response from the owner is pretty indicative and telling as to the lack of caring for poor quality and service. "Please try us again as we are working hard to improve". Why would I spend another $54 for breakfast when it's incorrectly made, late, and I could make a better meal at home?! read more

We were excited to try this new spot after the previous business left. There were 6 of us in our party and unfortunately we were seated at a table better suited for 4 guests. The hostess took our drink orders right away which was nice. One person ordered country potatoes with their food, but got biscuits and gravy instead. One person ordered a side of avocado but it was forgotten. One child ordered a half waffle and was brought French toast. One guest was brought someone else's order from another table. Once the food was brought out, the taste was pretty good. However, the waters were never refilled and more coffee was only offered once. We do believe it was more of an issue with the server and not the kitchen. Our server was also coughing quite a bit and wasn't wearing a mask. We will probably give it another chance because we understand that it's hard getting new businesses up and running smoothly. read more

This spot used to be Awful Annie's. I've stopped in here 3 times so far to give it a fair shake. I will say the food quality is pretty good, but that's not my issue. What I take issue with, and hence the three stars, is the price of the food. I ordered corn beef hash, and a English muffin on the side. This came with an egg and potatoes. The meal was enjoyable, but it cost me $15. Here's the issue with that, the corn beef hash was out of a can. Like the $.50 -$1 cans you can get at the grocery store. Now, I happen to like the stuff out of the can, what I don't like is being grossly overcharged for it. There are other items on the menu that are overly priced. The food is good, but not that good. If I had no other options I might pick this place, but there are so many other places that have way better food and way better prices. read more

Came here for the first time since it's the new breakfast spot in Lincoln. Service was great as all staff catered to our table. Coffee was constantly refilled and the food was amazing. I got the Chicken Skillet and their skillet potatoes were AMAZING. Need to try their waffles the next time though. read more

So I got the chicken and waffles. The waffle was decent but the chicken was bone dry and overcooked. The crust on the outside had hardly any flavor and was so crunchy I didn't want to eat it. If you want fried chicken don't come here, go to Safeway it's better. read more

We were in the area to look at a new 55+ housing development and headed to the quaint downtown for breakfast for lunch. We saw the Waffle Shop and decided to try it since it is so cute from the outside. We sat at the front window table and scoured the menu ~ so many choices! I had the bacon omelet which is on the *light side* menu. It was perfect as were the meals for my husband and son. I would have taken pictures but we devoured the food before thinking of it. It was super busy so we waited about 30 min for a table for 3 on a Sun around 11am. Its a casual home cooking style restaurant. We were seated by the door which was cold everytime the door opened. They were quick to get our drink order but slow to fill our coffee. The coffee wasn't that good. I ordered the chicken teriyaki mushroom sandwich and didn't care for it. Called and asked if they had a wait time and there was none. Our party of 9 showed up at 12:50 - 10 Minutes after speaking with them on the phone and they said they were closing at 1... would've been great to know on the phone first off, second - we were there 10 min prior and people had just sat down as we entered. I finally broke down and had lunch at the Waffle Shop. Does it live up to Awful Annie's, absolutely not. I had their chicken club, I should have asked for fresh, unbreaded chicken. The slice of Swiss cheese was paper thin and the roll it was on was just barely okay. The service was fine and the changes, which is basically fresh paint and new tables, was okay. Tables a little small. I will go back and try breakfast and unless it is somehow better than Awful Annie's then that will be it. The landlord so blew it when he wouldn't work with Awful Annie's. Love love the food! food there is great. However customer service is something that needs to be improved. This job requires someone to not only talking and socializing with people, but also someone good at multitasking. There's no reason for a waitress to pass by 6 different times and notice our drinks needed to be refilled. She went to every table in her section but ours. The food was good as well as the service. My only complaint is the way one of the waitresses threw a fit and started making a scene. I came in over the weekend one to two hours before closing and everything was perfectly fine until one of the waitresses started getting upset with her coworkers and raising her voice. I'm not sure why or what was wrong but she was causing quite a scene in the front of the restaurant. Perhaps she was in the right but either way it was extremely unprofessional and immature to throw a child like fit at your place of work in front of customers. We tried this place for the first time today. We waited to be greeted and when we were we were asked "have you been helped yet". We were never given a welcome, but quickly taken to the table when they noticed us. The hostess?? Got our drinks quickly, coffee and OJ, and then our sever, Robin, came and greeted us. She was very friendly, and we quickly ordered. Our food came and we were less than enthusiastic about how it looked. I had the Texas omelette with no cheese. The eggs themselves were cooked good, but the chili was canned, I'm guessing First Street Chili, it tasted ok but I could have done better with Stagg chili from the store. My hash brown were really crispy on the outside, which I like, but mushy on the inside. Reminded me of Winco hash browns cooked with too much oil. I had white toast, and could tell the use very inexpensive bread to make the toast. My wife had their 3 eggs with corn beef hash. She got the egg white only, they looked unappealing and the corn beef hash was also canned. They were about the same quality as Dinte Moore canned hash browns, if that. Again her toast was cheap bread. My daughter got the Apple cinnamon waffle special. She said the waffle tasted like a pancake and she was unimpressed with the cinnamon apple topping. She was happy with the whip cream though. She also got a side of bacon, which I could tell was thin cheap bacon that had been par cooked and reheated as needed. The bacon was really over cooked on one side, and not the other. I tasted the apple and cinnamon that was on top and it was not good, bland and cheap quality. During our stay we were never offered or asked about coffee refills, which was disappointing. But our check did arrive quickly and the server promptly took care of it. We won't be coming back, if I'm going to spend money I would expect it to be better than I could do at home myself while having a severe hang over. I don't see this place lasting long with the poor quality food, cheap product no matter how well cooked is not how you build a business. read more

With a name like "Waffle Shop" you would expect a stellar waffle, that is not the case. I ordered the bacon pecan waffle and it was very underwhelming. It really only had the bacon/pecan in the center of the waffle and the syrup was very bland. My boyfriend had the chicken and waffles and they were frozen chicken tenders that were saturated in oil. Not large portions at all and neither of us finished ours. We left disappointed and wishing Awful Annie's was still around. I will say the service was good and the staff was very friendly. read more
