Wow! Wow wow! This was one of my favorite shaved ice places ever. The fact that they have a vegan foam for the ube iced was awesome. So many times I have to skip out of the foam or the whipped cream because it's dairy. Back in the mainland and I'm already missing this place. Everyone there was wonderful and helpful in answering my questions. It's nice and cool in the shop. There are a few tables and a couple of benches. I wish I would have gone to this place in the beginning of my trip so I could have returned multiple times. But now I know for my next visit.
I can see why they were voted best Hawaiian ice 5 years in a row! Simply THE BEST. I think what makes their shaved ice stand out are the toppings and the quality of their flavors. These aren't regular dyed syrups anyone can buy from a grocery store. House made, fresh ingredients is what sets this place a part. Service is quick with a kiosk or you can place your order with a worker in the front. Clean and spacious shop that offers free parking and restrooms. The taste will blue you away and I wish this place had another location in California because I'll be dreaming about it until I go back! Mahalo!!!
This establishment is located in a large shopping center with plenty of parking out front. This shave ice was DELICIOUS, I ordered the lava flow, so soft and flavorful, I would absolutely return. During the weekdays it was relatively empty and service was very fast. During the weekend however it was packed with a line out the door, so I'd definitely aim for a weekday if possible.
I'm not a shave ice person and even the places that people rave about are not my thing. We happened to be at this plaza and my son and I got ice cream a few doors down but my husband wanted to get shave ice. I tried some of what he got and I was surprised how much I liked it. My husband got the strawberry mango and added some mochi. The syrup wasn't too sweet but was flavorful. The ice was fine and light and the flavoring was spot on. The toppings made a difference for me and I ended up liking it a lot. Most of the shave ice places I've tried only had the syrup. We've been trying a couple of shave ice places and this one has been my favorite so far. I'll probably be back to try their other flavors before we leave this area.
This shaved ice definitely exceeded my expectations. This location was recommended to me by a friend as a must try, and I'm so glad I did. The flavors are both very refreshing and not overly the top sweet. The shaved ice itself is fluffy and melts in your mouth. I was a bit overwhelmed on which option to chose as there's quite a few combo mixes to chose from. There was quite a bit of a line when we arrived, but it seemed to move quick, and our orders also came out pretty quick. Definitely a must try if you're in the area.
Arrived 5:30pm after a day on the north side of the island. Plenty of parking. The place has a welcoming atmosphere and an open feeling. It was fairly busy with a steady flow of customers. We ordered the Triple Coconut and the Strawberry Mango. We paid at the counter and shortly thereafter my name was called. The shave ice had a wonderful texture. The natural ingredients deliver a healthy and satisfying treat. The Strawberry Mango was fantastic with mango juice, strawberry purée and mango chunks. The Triple Coconut was flavor and texture delight with coconut milk and flakes. We look forward to returning! Highly recommended!
Everyone told us to go to JoJo's- sorry JoJo- THIS place is the sh%#! Please walk, run, waddle your way HERE! Set in a little strip mall, so lots of parking! Friendly staff. Nice air conditioning inside. They also sell merch. We shared the Almond Joy and the Lava Flow. Both delicious! The Almond Joy had great texture with the almonds and toasted coconut. And the Lava Flow was juice and perfectly sweet. No high fructose corn syrup here!
Hands down best shave we have ever had!!!! Planning to go back again. We are staying 30 minutes away but it's worth the drive. Nothing artificial tasting and huge portions. It is literally one of the best things we have ever had! We got the Ube, root beer float, and the Lava flow. All of them were insanely delicious. If you want authentic shave ice with amazing quality ingredients and fresh fruit, it's worth the drive!!!!!
First of all, the staff here are so friendly and willing to help with recommendations for flavors. The shave ice itself is delicious and the flavors are so fresh. I appreciate how they're honest about how there are artificial flavors in the rainbow shave ice, but trust me I'm not eating shave ice for health benefits LOL. Mochi comes with the rainbow shave ice and was the perfect addition. Not all of the flavors come with mochi, but it's definitely worth paying extra for it. I think it's only a few dollars. Lava flow comes with haupia (coconut) foam. Light and airy. I wish we came more than once so I could've tried more flavors. There's also indoor seating and air conditioning!
The best shaved ice I ever had! Highly recommend the Love Potion#9 or the Strawberry Mango. Very refreshing. Will come Back to try other flavors
When we arrived there was no one was in line, I think we got there at the perfect time because the crowd cane and the line was long. Staff was very friendly and efficient as we got our order pretty quick. I got the "da ube one" and it was ono (delicious) definitely a must try if you love ube. I also recommend getting their ice cream as an add on you will not be disappointed!! Over all this place is amazing and has a friendly atmosphere!
If I could eat shaved ice every day this is where I would do it. We ordered the Ube, Cookies and Cream and Love Potion#9 and they were ALLL so delicious. If you love ube anything ... you'll love this! It wasn't too sweet and the foam was yummy--I'll definitely be craving it. Light, fluffy, and full of flavor! My daughter loved the fresh strawberries on the Love Potion #9; perfectly blend. My husband who never eats dessert loved the Cookies and Cream. Highly recommend this place!! Super cute spot with very few seats though...would expect more places to sit especially since it's so crowded! Service was great...staff was super helpful. Self-serve kiosks for ordering made for fast ordering as well.

Wailua Shave Ice makes shaved ice the right way. By using fresh ingredients/sauces, you enjoy a refreshing treat. There is no need to add ice cream to yaour frozen treat. When places use colored sugar water, the satisfaction is missing and people start putting scoops of ice cream in their shaved ice. Their treats are themed on classic island and mainland flavor profiles, can't say any were a disappointment. I found the island flavors are lighter, chocolate is a really strong flavor with shaved ice. Wailua Shave ice is popular with locals and tourists. With only a few tables in the store, you may not be able to sit down immediately and if you wait to start eating, you may be drinking it. Quick melting, this is not a treat for a casual stroll. It is well worth the visit, enjoy. read more

I've had shave ice before, but this was a big round ice ball with the flavors of choice! I tried the ube, so the shave ice was like a snowball covered with Ube cream. My friend tried the lava which was all pineapple and other fruit flavor syrups, where the ice absorbed all the flavor really well as compared to ube. I did enjoy ube, but since it's more creamy. It was good when I scooped some ice along with the external cream cover. In the end there was more ice than the flavor, which I probably wouldn't prefer if I knew. The quantity, menu options, make n service was great and is a must visit while at Kauai. read more

$7.75 will get you a delicious bowl of shave ice! I hadn't seen an ube shave ice before, so was super excited to try this place out! This is a perfect treat for after a long day out on the island. The order came pretty fast and it was honestly really delicious. I wish there was one of these in LA, but until then, I'll have to dream about my next trip to the islands to try this out! read more

Superb shave ice! We've had shave ice all over the islands and this place is now in our top two. Until we stopped here, our favorite was Original Big Island Shave Ice Company (OBISIC) in Waikoloa on Hawaii Island. Now I can't decide which is better, this one is fabulous. I had the ube coconut and my husband had the strawberry and pineapple. How do you make ice creamy? Beats me but the texture was amazing. Going back soon! read more

Ice was soft. However expected more flavor/taste. The flavor seemed really watered down. Service was fast and the crew was helpful and friendly. Establishment was clean, and cold which was a nice break from the heat outside. I guess I just expected more Maybe it was just an off day and I'll try again in the future--because I've heard sooo many good things about this place. Update 10/8/23 Wailua Shave Ice is one of our favorite places to get shave ice. The shave ice menu is basically the same this year (2023) with a couple adjustments. The ordering process at the counter and prompt, and the take-in person friendly. The ice at Wailua is shaved perfectly to allow syrup penetration to the center, and stick to the surface. If the ice is too fine, the syrup and a hard time penetrating to the center and the flavor is only on the surface. As you scoop below the surface of the shave ice, all you see is white, no syrup. If the ice is shaved too course, the syrup goes right through to the bottom and the ice flavor is faint at the surface. I had the Lilikoi Cream shave ice, with a scoop of ice cream. You can see the dark lilikoi seeds embedded in the shave ice. The flavor was predominately vanilla cream, with hardly any flavor of lilikoi. But when you bite into the lilikoi seed, you do get a nice burst of the Lilikoi flavor. Da Ube One was very good. If you like Ube, this shave ice flavor is for you. The Almonf Joy flavor is spot on. You can taste the chocolate and coconut as you would eating an Almond Joy. The Wailua Shave Ice is a good place to go for your shave ice cravings. There are a wide election of flavors to choose from, and you have the option to add toppings to your shave ice such as snow cap, haupia foam, etc. read more

June 2023 The first stop along our drive since it was also next to an ABC store and we needed to pick up some necessities. My partner had gotten the Love Potion no 9, and Da Mango One for me. Good amounts for both, the flavors were on point, and the strawberry puree worked really well. I'm not big on sweets but it wasn't too heavy on that end. The fresh strawberry was nice for the occasional bite. I'd say the one regret was not getting the Ube one just to try things out. Guess we'll have to visit the island again sometime. read more

I came here after seeing all the great reviews, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. I was skeptical right away since you can only choose from pre-designed shaved ice combinations as there's no option to customize your own flavors, which really limited the experience for me. The menu just wasn't very appealing, and at $9.50 a serving, it felt overpriced. My family usually gets our own shaved ice, but we ended up sharing one (the Lava Flow), which just tasted like plain pineapple. I like pineapple, but I missed the fun of mixing flavors. If you enjoy customizing your shaved ice, this place probably isn't for you. On the plus side, service was fast with the kiosk ordering, and the merchandise area had a cool vibe. But the 3% credit card surcharge with no cash option was frustrating. I'd recommend Wishing Well Shaved Ice in Hanalei instead as it's still my favorite on Kauai. read more
Since around 2015, Wailua Shave Ice has been a favorite of my family. I have to say, I do miss the old location which was a food truck parked on grass between gift shops and eateries. The girls wore screened t-shirts and shorts. I liked sitting at the counter at the truck while watching them sprinkle LiHing Mui powder over the ice! It had an authentic island charm that was very unique and fitting. Now it's between a Subway and Starbucks. Having said that, the flavors are still there and the menu has grown a bit more along with swag and apparel. The staff is amazing. Nice friendly Aloha hospitality as it should be:) read more

Came in with a bunch a friends so I got to sample a few items on the menu besides the lava flow I ordered. Lava flow - best part was the haupia foam. I thought it was super refreshing and big enough to share. Strawberry guava - this was prob the best flavor syrup I tried that day. Basic acai bowl- good! Liked the combo of honey and granola on top. Wish the bathroom smelled better but other than that it was good visit. I would come back again. read more

Always a must visit when in Kauai!! We stopped twice during our trip, and the ube was DELICIOUS!! My boyfriend got the root beer float, and it really tasted like a root beer float!! The ube shave ice was complete with the toasted coconut flakes! The staff are always so friendly and welcoming and there's plenty of seating! This will forever be one of my favorite dessert places, and I wish there was one in Vegas!! read more
Dragons Blood with haupia coconut foam and pineapple chunks sprinkled on top. So good I ate two of them!! Get it brah and thank me later!! In comparison with two other shaved ice places I visited in the past 2 days, this place comes out on top. Way better than Jojo's and definitely Wishing Well but if you happen to be up in Hanalei Town, you have no choice but those other two. Compare them all and you'll know the differences. read more

Yes! Shaved ice with fresh fruit juice rather than syrup! Wailua shave ice is the place to go. The snow was soft and not icy. The fruit juice was perfect and not overly sweet. The fresh fruit was frozen but still tasty. Everything is also compostable. Everything made fresh when ordered. It's hard to do substitutions for the set menu. read more

I came to Kauai in 2022 and this was my second time back in 2023. I forgot how good the shave ice at Wailua is since there's no Ulalanis on this island. When I visit any of the Hawaiian islands, Ulalanis is my de facto go too, but Wailua is very close and still the best shave ice I've had on Kauai. Located just 15-20m north of the airport, it's in a fairly central location and I'm glad it's open all the way until 830pm! The shave snow here is very soft and fluffy and the haupia foam is a must have add on!! They add the perfect amount of syrup and we always add a scoop of ice cream in the middle as well. We shared one order between 4 ppl after a long hike to Hanakapiai falls earlier in the day and were just barely able to make it half an hour before they closed. This is a MUST have shave ice on Kauai!! Perfect dessert for before or after dinner. read more

One of the better shave ice place I've tried! The ice is nice a fluffy and the syrup that they used didn't taste too sweet or fake tasting! We got the ube shaved ice and it also came with an ube foam with some coconut flakes. The flavor was lighter and wasn't overly strong. Definitely better than the ice cream place next door! Some fun flavors and some fun toppings. I would say the line was long, and it was a little slow. But overall worth the wait. read more

Every time I visit Kauai I stop by. Their shave ice is absolutely delicious! Service is fast and the freshness of their products is incredible. Their ice is pillowy soft and they always put enough syrup! I do hope they offer more seating one day, but either way, I highly recommend! read more
Another great shave ice place. We tried five total while on the island. This one fell into the number three spot, but I think it would have been 2 for me if we had included vanilla ice cream in our order. The number 1 and 2 shave ice treats either had vanilla or macadamia nut ice cream. This makes it super decadent, but I do recommend trying it at least once because the syrup soaks into the ice cream and is just an amazing experience. What made this one special was the amazing foam they put on top of their ube shave ice. The downside is that the foam/syrup was too thick to fully penetrate into the ice. Still, highly enjoyable. My daughter had one with passion fruit and they added actual passion fruit seeds on top of the ice. My son had one with real strawberries (I think it might have been guava strawberry but I can't remember). read more

This is THE shave ice spot. I was kind of wary because you can't pick the flavors/syrup yourself (preset menu) but oh my lanta, when the ice AND syrup are both amazing and authentic, you know you hit the spot. We came here twice in one day! Once for lunch and once for dessert after dinner. We tried the strawberry mango and the strawberry coconut. If I had to choose one, I'd go with the strawberry mango. It is enough to share with 2 people. It's huge! Prices did increase from previous reviews I read. It's not $8-$8.50/bowl. There's lots of seating areas inside and benches outside. It does get a bit busy but they make your shave ice quick! And if you want more syrup, they will give it to you, just ask....they encourage it. But yes, the ice is soft. The flavors are natural and taste it too! Everything about this place is great. I saw the previous menu options so I was sad I couldn't taste the Strawberry Guava. I've heard other popular flavors are the Lilikoi Cream and Lava Flow so if you need other recommendations, those are great flavors too. But you honestly can't go wrong with any, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! read more
