Wow! What a phenomenal dining experience we had at Wakuda last night for my husband's birthday. First, the ambiance is amazing. It's sultry, modern, hip, inviting, and comfortable. I loved the low light with pops of art, including the larger than life Sumo Wrestler's playing the main focal point of the dining room. Tables were spaced well so you could enjoy an intimate meal while also being part of a lively restaurant. Our waiter Kurt was very welcoming and gave us some great guidance as we journeyed through the menu. He and our bus boy Solomon were extremely tentative, professional, and friendly. Now the food was INCREDIBLE! I personally have never liked sushi, but my husband loves it so I "sucked it up" and took him here for a celebratory dinner. Wakuda changed me. They literally made me fall in love with sushi and now I wish we could dine here daily (seriously). Everything we ate surpassed my expectations and was phenomenal. We started with the marinated Japanese Cucumber - crunchy & flavorful. We then had two rolls, salmon and soft shell crab. Both rolls were out of this world delicious and changed me into a sushi lover. Next we had Tempura Vegetables that were fresh and perfectly battered. We continued with 3 pairs of Sashimi; New Zealand King Salmon, Akami Lean Tuna, and Miru Gai Geoduck - all so fresh and almost melted like butter in our mouths. Then we had to try the Japanese Wagyu which was the best cut of steak we've ever had with a fantastic flambé to finish it off. For dessert, my husband received the Wakuda Special soft serve miso ice cream finished with edible gold for his birthday. I never would think to make a miso ice cream, but it was fantastically sweet with a little saltiness. We also each enjoyed 2 cocktails that complicated our meal beautifully. Wakuda is one of our favorite restaurants. We had a late dinner reservation which allowed us to finish and welcome the New Year by just taking a few steps out of the restaurant. We had a little bit of everything. We had crispy tuna toast, a couple of different foie gras offerings, Japanese cucumber, crab roll and cheesecake for dessert. All were as great as we expected and the service was top notch. You have to really appreciate servers that have to work on holidays. The environment is so welcoming that every time we go here we ask ourselves why it's been so long since our last visit. But the pricing is not for the faint of heart. Just know it will set you back. We sat at the bar since the restaurant was packed (get reservations if you can). But, things worked out beautifully. So much so we visited twice for two nights in a row. Our Australian bartender was also our server. Seriously top five meals of our life and service was completely top notch. She was amazing!!! They were knowledgeable and attentive. Regarding the food, most of it had an explosion of flavors. We started with the shisisto peppers. The flavor was good but the spices felt really concentrated creating a pepper flavor. The miso soup was one of the best miso I've ever had. It had a strong miso flavor so no other ingredient took over including the seaweed. Regarding the sushi, the snow crab tasted amazing! We wish we got multiple pieces of this one. The next was the vegetarian roll was quite good! It wasn't any particular vege flavor but a mix of all of them creating a unique flavor. My boyfriend took me here for date night and booked rsvp, and we arrived early by 15 min and they took us in anyway! The server gave us perfect intro to their chefs menu and gave great recommendations. We started out with a ode to senpai (whiskey with honey ginger and citrus notes) and snow monkey cocktail (egg white foam on a yuzu based gin), which was super light and refreshing. We both loved our cocktails. For food we ordered: soft shell crab roll (super crisp and delicious soft shell crab), golden gai (assorted fish roll), hotate(scallops in buttered truffle sauce), Hirame (halibut fish), surf and turf flambé (perfectly cooked beef and delicious shrimp-super small two pieces of shrimp). We also added the fresh grated wasabi grounded from the root. It was $25 lol but it was a bit sweeter than your normal wasabi. Not sure if it's worth the 25 bucks but it was definitely good to try! Everything was super good, but definitely on the expensive side. So definitely be ready to splurge a bit. My husband and I had a wonderful experience celebrating our wedding anniversary here! Exceptional food and service!! The restaurant had an intimate vibe. The hostesses were very friendly and welcoming, and it was sweet of them to wish us a happy anniversary upon checking in for our reservation and when we left at end of our dinner. Our server Tony was also great and attentive, and congratulated us on our anniversary. He recommended the omakase experience since it was our first time dining in. Basically he explained that we set a $$$ price per person and they curated a menu for us to share and enjoy. It was truly an amazing experience! So worth it!! The flavors were fresh and enticing. Every dish was a delicious surprise. Our servers explained each dish that was brought out and told us how chef recommends we eat it. We knew walking in we were in for an amazing experience. Our reserved table was not available so they upgraded us to the sushi counter. What a great way to start the night. We couldn't decide on which plates to get so decided to basically do an omakase experience and put ourselves in the waiters hands. One of the best experiences in a while. The tasting menu at $300 includes everything in the pictures except the cocktails. It's a pretty good deal if you itemize it. The tuna toast and yuba were the highlights of the meal for me. The toast was perfectly crunchy on the bottom and the flavors go really well together. The yuba, in my opinion, is a must get item. It is topped in caviar and uni with a thick stock. Very unique, very flavorful. The nigiri was probably the most regular part of the meal, nothing too special but fresh and tastes good nonetheless. Although seats were close to each other, you could not hear conversations at the other tables. The menus were well designed and organized. and the artwork was a delight. The wait staff were friendly, efficient and non-obtrusive. They gave their opinions but did not push any particular item too aggressively. We ordered our meal and thought we may have to order more. Such an amazing experience! I was a little sad that we missed the tasting menu, which stops at 9PM, but we basically ordered everything a la carte that was on the tasting menu, plus a little extra. The presentation was top notch and everything came out in a timely manner. The food tasted fresh and melt-in-your-mouth oh so yummy. I'm salivating just thinking about it right now. You can tell a lot of detail and fine-tuning was put into each dish. I only wish my stomach was larger so I could have eaten more. My friend, who normally doesn't like Uni, actually loved the uni martini that they had here. Customer service was also top notch and the ambience was amazing. Our Birthday Celebration Dinner took us to the newly opened Japanese restaurant in Palazzo- Helmed by two-Michelin-starred chef Tetsuya Wakuda. The restaurant didn't disappoint. We didn't do the omikase ($500) but they have a tasting menu available for $300 but your whole table must get. Will need to go back an experience the Omikase- which they have a separate room/bar (8 seats). Our waiter was good. Seems knowledgeable with the menu. He doesn't realize how well travel is my group and knowledgeable with all type of sushi/fish. He was recommending multiple dishes like chicken lollipop and amount we should we order. My group wanted to try as much as possible in the menu since we opted not to do the tasting menu. Started with edamame so that we can review the menu and figure what to order for sharing vs. individual. The edamame-it's no extraordinary but we should have just ordered one. We got the Japanese eggplant - it's has a smoky taste. It was topped with miso sauce. It was good. I know for some people- they might not like it due to the texture. The hamachi carpaccio was real good. The sashimi toast is worth getting especially the tuna. My group wanted some hand rolls- tuna and salmon. I would recommend not getting if you are planning to order more sashimi or nigiri. The futomaki is really big and filling. The rolls were just ok. We really love the Japanese A5 Waygu sushi with fresh wasabi. It totally melts in your mouth. I would advise to take your time eating $25 per piece. But totally worth it. The Aburi New Zealand king salmon with yuzu kosho is amazing. One of our favorites. We ordered a set of salmon, tuna, chutoro, Hokkaido scallops, uni, and salmon belly. Must get the freshly grated wasabi. Our favorite are the chutoro, uni, and scallops- all three were so good. Love love the Hokkaido scallops. Moving on to the grilled part of the menu. We had the Patagonian tooth fish aka miso Chilean sea bass. I was flaky and delicious. Great flavor. Glad we got two of this. The grilled vegetables was ok. We also tried the prime tenderloin. It was cooked perfectly. Moist not dry. Came with grated wasabi and garlic. Also some grilled vegetables. We also tried the tenderloin donburi. Very tasteful and flavorful- perfect for younger kids if you bring one. Oh by the way, restaurant has a policy after 9 pm - must be over 21. If not mistaken , must be seated before 7 pm. We end our meal with the cold buckwheat soba. Amazing dish!!! It came with sweet freshwater shrimp, truffle, and caviar. Since we were celebrating two birthdays- they gave us two desserts compliments of the restaurant. The miso soft serve ice cream with gold foil was delicious. Also love the yuzu creme brûlée. They do have an amazing list of alcohol beverage. Loved that they have Japanese ipa's as well. They made my son a mocktail or gingerbeer with yuzu. We spoke to one of the managers. She was very nice and excited with her job and restaurant. The wait staff is incredible- our water is almost full. Check out the bathroom in the back. Unisex. Great decor. Love the Sumo wrestlers in the center of the restaurant. Love the IG entrance. We are already planning a come back dining and likely will book the omikase in the future visit. Finally came back and had dinner not just drinks. OMG service is still top notch! Our water was never empty, table was cleaned between meals. Each meal was explained to us. The ambiance sitting inside is sexy, cool , relaxing. So amazing you can see the chefs preparing your meal depending on where you are seated. This place is very intentional. We also had amazing service by our waitress Ariana , she was knowledgeable, patient and made us feel special and gave us 5 star treatment, along with other staff tending to our table and bringing out our orders while describing in detail what we were having and how it was prepared. Snow crab was sweet and good portion, served with a wheel shaped seaweed chip. So so good ! Next for dinner we had I ordered the Seabass Miso 9/10 Very light flaky fish with a light citrus flavors. Would have given it a 10 but my suggestion is adding the black garlic miso sauce that is papered with the beef Tenderloin to the Seabass. Rather that be a decorative swirl or somehow incorporating into the dish. My husband ordered Beef tenderloin 10/10 it's all about the cut and the black miso sauce! Friends ordered the Pork Katsu 7/10 needed salt which they gave you a sprinkle of on the side , other than that it's was light and crispy. We also ordered the Yaki Udon Vegetarian 10/10 fresh hot noodles with perfectly cooked veggies. Udon was shareable and cooked perfect. Lastly we shared Kakigori (shaved ice) Brûlée 10/10 Instragram worthy video and presentation. This dessert has a cotton candy cloud , light fluffy shaved ice, packed with so much flavor from the sorbet to the coconut milk so perfectly balanced. I understand all the raves for Wakuda and we definitely enjoyed ourselves. Like many have said, it's just so very pricey. We did the 9 course omakase, at $275 a person. Was it good? Very. Was it worth it? I don't know, to be honest. It would definitely be worth it if someone else was paying! I was glad that we enjoyed a little hand payout at one of the machines the day before, which made the bill for dinner sting less, lol! The service was great, including that from the sommelier. The look and vibe of the restaurant is also great. Next time we're at The Palazzo, we might check out their social hour for a little discounted vibes. I can't imagine anyone having a bad meal here, which is a testament to the chef and his staff. Definitely not a cheap night out, but, of course, it's Vegas! The food? absolutely breathtaking, absolutely amazing, it's wonderful you've got to try. My favorite dessert is the miso ice cream with the gold foil on top, makes my body feel cool afterwards and it's so yummy i get one every time. Our server is always extremely helpful and patient also super polite to our family and always there when we have questions about the menu. They also tell us all the details about the food once brought out which i find super helpful. The service is the worst I've experienced in my life. The restaurant staff kept saying the computers weren't working but to soften the blow of us waiting 30-50 min for every beverage or plate of food we ordered, the restaurant manager said our drinks would be comped. They did not comp our drinks. They didn't comp anything. They also started bringing drinks we didn't order saying they were on the house to try to get us tipsy enough to not realize they charged us for everything. We did the customized experience and asked for $200/person and said we like raw food and sushi. They brought us cooked scallops and cooked fish...and instead of the $400 it should've been based on the budget we gave them and the comped drinks, our bill came out to $744. As we all know, there are 5,876,012 incredible restaurants in Las Vegas. So how does one choose where to go? In this case, I picked Wakuda based on the decor. It was funky and felt like I was transported to the streets of Tokyo as I walked into the restaurant. The food didn't disappoint! There was a fresh take on everything. Considering the fact that I try new places all the time, it's rare for me to find unique preparations or presentations. The presentation of each dish was absolutely stunning. Here's what we got, and I am including photos of 3 of the 4 dishes: Salmon tartare: this is a very small dish, but the salmon is buttery and superior quality. The flavors were absolutely delicious. The beet salad was also stunning. The radishes were a nice touch to the visual presentation. The duck was ok. I enjoyed the duck itself, but when it was combined with the pesto sauce, it felt a bit too salty. The duck was served on hot rocks which continued to cook the duck, but the rocks sat on rock salt. If you inadvertently dropped a piece of duck into the salt rocks, it went from salty to unpleasantly salty. See photo to understand better. If you maneuver well and scrape the pesto off, it's a nice dish. Finally, the California roll was also a surprising take on a traditional California roll. We were surprised at how uniquely it was constructed and presented. It was a delicious dish. Overall; the food was all incredibly tasty, and the presentation was on another level. The ambiance and decor was also top notch. I would recommend Wakuda. read more
