This place is unreal busy for an unassuming strip mall right off the freeway. Every time we've come, it's always a 30 minute wait, at least. To me, that's a good thing, because it's not like this place is tiny. I've tried a lot of the nigiri and a bunch of the different rolls here. They are all pretty fresh and nicely done. The portions are perfect and the quality is above average, especially at this price point about $$. The kiddos always get the chicken katsu, and I must say the katsu here is really good. Flaky crispy tasty, the kids always finish their plates. Service here is very friendly as well. I was watching a few of the hostesses and they maintained their smiles and friendliness, even though the place was really busy. Bravo to them. Good news! Keto rolls exist! Sakura roll and a crab roll (I think?) I got the Sakura which is heavily cucumber based dish with plenty of yummy fish to accompany it. With no sauce you can trust this is a pretty low carb option probably docking in at 4 net carbs conservatively. The restaurant is nice with two areas for seating.the service is good even when they are busy. My only gripe is the food wasn't very memorable. I didn't have a wow factor with my sushi however. The keto option will be why I come back. Because even if it was amazing and outstanding it's the only sushi place in Livermore that has the options for me. So I appreciate that. Don't get me wrong. From sashimi to sushi rolls, this restaurant has become really popular because of the quality of the food that comes at a very reasonable price. Seared on one side and drizzled with ponzu sauce, the Bluefin Tuna Tataki is simply irresistible. We don't usually order appetizers, but it's hard to pass on this. I usually go with the Salmon Skin Salad or the Wasabi Special Sashimi Salad and share with whatever my husband orders. If we go out with a group, the Wasabi Special Sashimi Platter is a must. It's not just about the sashimi - it's the fried fish head and skeleton that come right after! The larger the size of the platter, the bigger the fish head and skeleton. I like the Lion King Roll because it's always baked to perfection with the cheese sauce. The Kiss of Fire Roll is a close second because of the flavor of the blowtorched salmon and jalapeño. There are also the Dragon Roll and the Super California Roll highlighted by the unagi (barbequed eel) on top. The riceless Sakura Roll wrapped in cucumber is a amazing. We've been here since its early days and Wasabi Bistro continues to impress. My only complaint is that they seem to run out of salmon skin lately and I have been missing out on the salad. Came in today with family during lunch since this is one of our favorite spots for sushi. I ordered a variety of things for the lunch special, including raw fish and other cooked items. On a business trip I happened across this small place near my hotel. Concierge recommended, very good reviews and within walking distance, so why not? Wow, was I pleasantly surprised! Very busy but excellent service, they seated me within minutes of walking in. Then I saw their daily specials which included blue fin tuna, kurodai and Hokkaido hotate. Excellent! Fresh, flavorful and NOT cold! Many places have decent fish but often way too cold, which is fine for satisfying the health inspector but not for pleasing the palate. I finished with uni, again pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend Wasabi Bistro. I know I will be back when in town. read more

Stopped in for lunch with some coworkers. The place looked closed from the parking lot (plenty). It's not real big inside but had enough tables for the three of us. I went for some Saba (nigiri) and a spicy tuna roll. Both were good but pretty average tasting. My coworkers loaded up on various sushi choices too. Prices were high in my opinion...unless it's the new norm with the new minimum wage laws. Service was pretty standard and the place was clean. The food was not bad at all. Came here for lunch and was seated right away. Parking was really easy. The food came out quick, but I feel there was only one server serving 5-7 tables. We told the server we wanted two chicken udon, but only one came. When we asked if they can check if the other udon will arrive, they only put down as one order. FLAVOR (2/5): We ordered 3 rolls and two out of the three tasted the same as one was just a tad spicier that the other. The wasabi wasn't even spicy. The Agedashi Tofu we ordered, the tofu was the firm, porous kind which I don't think is ideal for that type of dish. Also it was not seasoned in any way. The Calimari (Ika) tempura was the most disappointing. The batter and texture of the calamari made it soggy and tasteless. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (4/5): Sushi drizzled in sauce is an easy picture to take. Their appetizers and restaurant were subpar. SERVICE (1/5): This was the most frustrating part. We were told to sit anywhere we liked, been sitting there for 5 minutes with no menus or drinks brought to us despite 3 servers walk by us. Finally someone asked if we got menus yet. After we ordered 10 minutes later we got the calamari and then no more food for the next 35 minutes. So after 45 minutes of ordering we asked about the rest of the order. Two seconds later the person we asked brought two plates of sushi out. I worked in a sushi restaurant for 4 years I know Agedashi Tofu takes 5 minutes to make meaning they forgot about our order. The table next to us was frustrated with the hour wait for food as well so once they got their sashimi (sashimi does not require time to cook my friends, they chefs just have to cut the fish. It should not take an hour to cut 9 pieces of fish) they got the bill as well. TAKE AWAYS: It should not take an hour and a half to get food. I really don't understand why this place has such high reviews. Their pricing is competitive compared to San Jose sushi but nothing tasted amazing. I would skip the appetizers. I have eaten at Wasabi for a few time now. Their sushi is always fresh. one of my favorites is the Wasibi Special Sashimi Salad, you get so much fresh assorted sashimi in there, its fills you up and the dressing they use is very good. I order togo a few days ago for my daughter's birthday. Called in at 4:30pm right when they open, was told 40mins, but when I got there in 15mins, the food was ready. GREAT WORK!!!!! read more

We've been coming here for years. The prices have gone up like everyplace but we kept coming back because the quality was there, but had gone down little by little over the last few visits. Well we finally have reached the end. Not only are the prices ridiculous, but the quality is no longer there. The protein for the bento boxes have shrunk and the beef and chicken were dry and tasteless. The rolls have shrunk and the sashimi pieces were small and tasteless. We are sad because we loved this place. But I should have known when we walked in on Mother's Day and it was pretty empty. Average sushi restaurant with an interesting signature dish "sashimi platter," which is honestly just a party pleaser! The sashimi wasn't not exceptionally good/fresh in my opinion, but it was very cool to see the waitress debone the fish and deep fry it. The fried fish was the best part of the meal - super crispy and tasted great with the sweet teriyaki sauce. I also had tempura udon / chicken teriyaki (not pictured) both of which were just typical restaurant quality. I've lived in Livermore for upwards of 6 years and every time we want sushi, this is our go-to place. The service is pretty good and there is minimal wait time once you are seated. Most importantly, the food is always good. My husband loves the fish options and I always get vegetarian sushi (I don't eat fish). This last time we also got the vegetable udon and it was tasty! Most of the food we order - deep fried spicy tuna Maki roll, Vegisu, shiitake veg roll, another custom veg roll - lived upto my expectations. I also understand the smaller portions. But serving bad food is not okay at any price point. I ordered Hwe dub bob and the red sauce tasted like fungus. My guess is that they keep adding new sauce to the existing container with the left overs from before. The rice was very dry and hard. The ambiance is Decent..but here's where I think they can hugely benefit from improving. Cleanliness and a little facelift to this place will go a long way. Updated review after 3 years, and maintaining 5-star rating, especially based on their sashimi! Wasabi Bistro has undergone a few changes since we last dined here. First, they expanded the dining room big time, complete with flat screen TV and more tables that can accommodate larger groups. Second, there's a waitlist I-Pad that you can use to secure your place in line. Use the Yelp app and get waitlisted before coming here! Third, they installed little buttons on each table for you to summon waitstaff! What hasn't changed are the insane lines and super fresh sashimi and nigiri. Our party of five managed to get seated after a 30-min wait. Highly recommend getting their sashimi combo. A large easily feeds 5-6 people, and comes with tempura veggies, salad and miso soup. The knife work on the sashimi was top-notch, and both the tuna and scallops were melt-in-your-mouth! The nigiri 10-piece combo remains a solid choice - very large pieces if thick-cut fish toppings. I did find the rice a bit denser than I liked, but it was still at the correct temperature. The other recommendation are the raw oysters. So plump and juicy. They added some citrus flavors and some fish eggs for additional umami. Dinner for five including two large beers including tip and tax was under $300, and with plenty of leftovers! read more
