Waterman grille never disappoints. It's a beautiful setting right on the water with plenty of parking. The food is always delicious, it's one of my favorite brunch spots. Came here in a Thursday night on a date. I made a reservation for 7:30. Unfortunately when I got there, the table I was to be seated at, still had customers that were still eating desserts. Luckily, there was a high-top available in the bar that I was able to sit at. Our servers name I believe was Scott, he was very nice and I enjoyed his service. Drink: I got the champagne cocktail. Bubbly, sweet, and I loved it! Main course: The Salmon dish. Came with an average sized piece of salmon, on top of sautéed spinach and roasted sweet potato. Really, really good. The salmon was topped with some sort of sauce it was so flavorful. I really enjoyed it. In fact my date, who got the sirloin special that they were having that night, actually liked my dish a little bit more then his own. Highly recommend. Overall, I did have a good time. The interior is warm and cozy and overlooks the water. Definitely romantic, but can definitely be great for groups. Kinda bummed I had to sit in the bar area and not the dining room, but the bar area was still nice. One other thing that I was a little bummed at, was before I went to the restaurant I took a look at their menu and saw a mushroom risotto which sounded delicious and I was interested in trying it. We really enjoyed this place. We came up for Brown parents weekend and made reservations well in advance. Didn't know what to expect or what we would find, but this place was excellent and I highly recommend it. Super cocktail & beer selection, excellent menu choices, and service was really good... Not a bad thing to say. We will return for sure next time we're in Providence. And if you're looking for a place to have a party they have a great room downstairs that overlooks the river. read more

This was my second time at the Waterman Grille - since I loved the food so much the first time... I knew this would be the spot to do the company dinner and boy was I right!! Let me start this review by saying, the food is amazing, service is amazing, and the entire experience and ambiance is just spot on. I will definitely be coming back here again and again. The staff was quick, helpful and very organized. Everything was ready and prepared for us on time. All of the food was Delicious! We had so many things before dinner (I couldn't help it) I almost didn't have any room for the main dish! To name a few that I loved: Korean BBQ bites, Duck tacos, Crispy warm balls with Parmesan cream sauce, and bacon wrapped scallops. The main dish that I chose was the filet, with the potatoes and green beans - all of it was so good I was so happy that I had leftovers. Attended a bridal shower here. The view was spectacular and the food was good. The staff, Jason and his bartender, were not very welcoming and somewhat rude when I arrived early to assist the host in setting up for the shower. Felt like they were hovering and judging the modest decorations we brought 1 hour before the shower. They also seemed to be annoyed with us from the start and we found ourselves constantly apologizing for what, I'm still not quite sure. If it weren't for the staff, I would have given it 5 stars. Seems like they need a bit more training on how to make the host feel welcome and supported, instead of judged. read more

We got the mezza platter, spare ribs, sirloin and scallops and it was a never ending party in my mouth! I have to recommend their watermelon cocktail their bartender Rebekah makes a killer drink and is so helpful with her extensive knowledge of the menu and her amazing cocktail skills! Dine in experience was excellent . Masks required to enter until you arrive to your table. The staff was very attentive . The presentation of the meal was artistic and it tasted scrumptious! It was our anniversary dinner today so we trued this restaurant. They sat is upstairs away fr any view and next to a trash can where the waitress emptied trash into while we were eating . She was fairly miserable and slow. Our bread was so salty that we couldn't eat it. The beer salad was awful. Chicken wings just ok. The lamb was awful. My husband had ox tail which was ok. Never again! Dont waste your money on this one! read more

Disappointing. We came for a special night out and it was definitely meh. We arrived 15" late only to be told that our reservation was canceled. They punished us with a table near the kitchen where we got to listen to every dish clatter even though nicer tables were available in the main dining room. We sat outside on the balcony while it was 30 degrees outside, and felt warm and safe in terms of their covid procedures. -'s: Really wanted to like this food a lot more than we did, but both of our main courses (the wood fire grilled steak and pork chop) were both significantly over cooked. I could tell the second I dug my knife into the the pork chop (at the chef recommended medium temp) that it was too tough and I shouldn't have to work that hard to slice it up. My wife and I went here a week ago to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary and they made it quite special. We were seated immediately and at the table was a card signed by their staff wishing us a happy anniversary. The waiter then introduced himself and brought us complimentary champagne. "Hi, my name is Samantha and I will be taking care of you tonight" should never be the tone at a nice restaurant. Food here is mostly 4*. Some things are better, some things are worse. Some portions are large, some are small. But while the food is inconsistent, the service was consistently poor. In an effort to get us seated, the host brought us to our table before he had enough menus for the people in our party. It was only a few minutes until he returned with the rest of the menus, but this is just sloppy. I learned better (at a lesser restaurant) when I hosted in Miami. There was a moderate selection of wines by the glass. At least 10 if memory serves me correctly. And kudos to WG for reaching beyond the standard cab/merlot/pinot and offering some interesting varietals. The wine comes out from the bar in little individual carafes, and were poured at the table. In the biz, we called this, the illusion of service. Where it breaks down is when you order a second glass of wine, and they refill your dirty glass. That's lazy. But onto the good. The food. Apps: Lobster Fritters - A+ for frying. Crisp and non-greasy exterior. Perfectly cooked interior. Could have used more fish. Mustard sauce and micro greens worked as accompaniments. Braised Short Rib Bruschetta - Tasty. Inventive. Tiny. Bruschetta? Not exactly. Good use of white truffle oil? Probably not. Sliders - Awesome! And I am very circumspect about the use of comfort food in high-dining. What really sets these apart is the chef's bold use of salt and pepper on the beef. Great crust on the meat. Beautiful medium rare center. Fried onions were so good, my son started shoveling them into his mouth with both hands. - intermezzo - Speaking of my 3 year-old son, this was surprisingly, a great place for kids. Seriously. They had a kid menu. Crayons. And even a plastic cup with a lid and straw. The kiddo is a bit of a gourmand, so we stayed away from the kids menu, but it IS good to know it's there. The crayons and the cup however were invaluable. Entrees: My winter special Braised Lamb Shank was awesome. Meltingly tender. Great flavorful jus. Creamy mashed. Crunchy brussel sprouts. Perfect for a cold snowy night. Needed just a little bit of salt, but it was on the table, so no harm, no foul. The steak looked delicious... perfectly cooked. The sole stuffed with crab in burre blanc had the classic ballance of being both light and rich at the same time. The chicken pot pie was tasty, but the vegetables could have used some more time and did not yield as easily as they should. As good as the food was, none of it came to the table terribly hot. I blame the servers. Maybe it was an off night. But they botched dessert too. One dessert was very VERY late to arrive, and only came after multiple reminders. The double espresso was over-extracted and thin (likely made by the servers as well). But frankly when it came time for dessert, I was so incredibly full from appetizers and my lamb I only wanted a nibble of something sweet. This is a great place. With a great kitchen. Great location. Waterman's is a true gem! The food was amazing. We started with truffle fries, and also two salads, one with grilled shrimp. The Arugula salad was super fresh and featured great additions (gorgonzola, golden beets, watercress etc) the other, the signature waterman salad had fresh greens, balsamic vinegar and more. But the best part was the people here! Nate was our server and he is both pleasant and knowledgeable. The manager and other dining room staff were great. And the scenery was amazing along the river. This was our second visit and if we lived here we would get the rewards card. Last night had scallops and zuchinni appetizer (it was a special- fried with whipped goat cheese. It was splendid). Scallops were exactly what I wanted. What surprised me was how much I loved the leeks, carrots, carrot purée and lemon sauce. Licked the plate clean. Thank you Waterman! Oh yes and wait service is impeccable- probably some of the best we've ever seen. Probably not too hard to impress New Yorkers who have also experienced Parisian wait staff. But nonetheless, Waterman waiters and waitresses set the standard high. Thanks Paul. We feel like the servers in NY (and especially Paris) can be rude. But yeah, they're qualified. There are highs and lows here, and they all average out to well, average. It seems sometimes there is, for every positive, there is a negative. Pro There is nice outdoor seating on the deck with a nice view. Con The view is obscured by a floor-to-ceiling dirty, filmy plastic sheet. Pro The decor and ambient lighting inside is warm and inviting. Con The brick walls and hardwood floors make it LOUD! I could hear every word of the tables on either side of us. I now know more about that lady's placenta than I ever hoped to know. Thanks. Pro Food looks delicious on paper. Unique preparations and innovative cuisine. Con Doesn't live up to the description. Example- (1) "White Fish Beignets with grilled corn tomato tartar sauce" This is actually a boring clamcake, with less flavor than an actual clamcake. The grilled corn is imperceptible in the tartar sauce. I can see it in there, but it's dead to the world. (2) Pork Chop with spice rub and almond butter. The nice combination of spices was completely charred off. Not roasted, but burnt. There was nothing left of those spices. The pork chop wasn't burnt and was really moist. (3) Grilled Tomato Basil Pizza Awful. Absolutely un-finishable. The tomatoes might as well not have existed because there was so much friggin basil on this pizza I could have grazed a herd of goats on top. Mr. Chef- fresh basil is somewhat potent and a little goes a long way. Service A good server adapts to their guests. Clearly we were not stuffed suit snobs. It's okay to let down your royal servitude front. Bar They really need to put some effort into their Whiskey selection. After this kind of food, a nice Scotch is a perfect finish. Your choices are limited to the same stuff everybody else has. Dessert Trotting out the same old tired old warhorses- Chocolate Cake, Creme Brulee. Yawn. read more

Came here for brunch for the first time, my boyfriend and I loved the vibe and looking out over the water. It was stormy when we went so it was nice to be comfortable and warm inside drinking prosecco while watching the waves and the storm. The brunch drinks are cheap and delicious! It wouldn't have mattered so much if the food was amazing, but some dishes were better than others and I may need to go back and try other items. What a great spot. We really enjoyed our dinner there a few nights back. Nice staff, the entire crew were very professional. Scott was a fabulous waiter who explained a lot of items and really took good care of us. We started with the cheese plate which was nicely prepared. Great selection of cheeses and nuts, fruit and more. We had to ask for more of the rummy bread. When you walk in you see the open kitchen with the wood fired grill very prominently visible. They have great wood fired flavor on the steaks, we had both a fillet and a sirloin. Also the wood fired leg of lamb was delicious. Our last main was the scallops - they were were absolutely mouth watering. Dessert was great. The sampler is the way to go if you a nice sized group. Good fish dishes, especially the scallops and the calamari. Service was ultra polite, even if there was a table of like 15 right nearby. The server didn't seem stressed by dealing with them plus all the other upstairs tables. The steak was less impressive, as it had sort of a tough texture and could've used more flavor. I was surprised that they were not able to give me any au jus when I told them that I didn't like the spicy cherry demi-glace that came with it. They gave me a fruit-based BBQ sauce, which would've been much better paired with chicken or pork. I found the lack of accommodation by the kitchen annoying (our server was very polite about the whole thing, and tried to do what he could. I got a feeling that the kitchen was just like "give her some BBQ sauce, it's easier..."). We sat upstairs, which can be romantic and is much quieter than the middle level. The drinks were pretty good - try the mojito and the Riley cocktail. read more

Stopped by for brunch before discovering downtown Providence. This place sits right on the river with awesome outdoor seating. Even though it was 89 degrees, the shade and light breeze make it really comfortable. Bloody Mary was excellent and at $5, was worth it. Also tried their pineapple infused vodka with pineapple juice, which was also smooth and sweet. For lunch tried the chilled potato leek soup, beet salad and crab cake Benedict. The soup was a huge portion, great flavor with truffle oil. Nicely done! Beet salad was also a generous portion with both red and yellow beets, crisp, sweet and flavor rich. The dressing and whipped goat cheese were also stars of this dish. Crab cake Benedict was also good. I thought the crab cake had more "cake" than crab, but it was still tasty and the hollandaise sauce could have used a bit more lemon. Great place, awesome service, beautiful location, easy parking and good value. read more

My sister and I were looking for somewhere new to take my parents for brunch and after weighing some different options, we decided to head over to the Waterman Grille. Not only had I heard good things about this place, but the menu looked really good and I knew they had outdoor seating / water views...how can you beat that combo? Luckily when we showed up the place wasn't too busy and we were able to get a table outside. We started off with cocktails which were all very good. I had a really unique drink made with a special aged Thomas Tew rum, which was very tasty and went down very easily. And as great as all our cocktails were, the food is what really stole the show... As soon as I saw the menu my mind was made up and I knew I was going to order the lobster croissant. For as much as I love a good lobster roll, I wasn't sure what to expect having it served on a croissant but from the minute it was served, up until the very last bite I was in complete food bliss. There were huge chunks of fresh lobster with just the right amount of dressing and the croissant itself was huge and incredibly flaky and buttery. This sandwich was amazing and deffinitely put a new perspective on how I view traditional lobster rolls. My parents and my sister all raved about their dishes as well. The frittata, breakfast burrito and chorizo / peppers (special of the day) dishes all were cleaned off their respective plates in no time and in the end there wasn't a crumb left on any of them. We all agreed this was definitely one of the better brunches we had enjoyed in a while. In summary, this review is probably more of a 4.5 star then it is a 4. The reason for it not being a 5 in my book is because the service to get our drinks was a little bit slow (especially because it wasn't very busy) and at times our waitress was hard to find / get a hold of. Overall though, the atmosphere, views, drinks and food were all fantastic. Not only will I be back for brunch again, I'm looking forward to coming here and trying out their dinner menu as well. read more

Went here for a birthday celebration for my nephew. Nice experience. Pretty venue. Nice water view if you don't pay mind to the buildings in the background. Definitely wouldn't dress casual here. The food overall was really good. The cheese plate was very balanced & the waiter was very helpful with suggestions for pairings. The star of the dinner for me was the pork special...tender, flavorful, and delicious. For dessert, I had the Creme Fraiche Panna Cotta; thought I was in Italy... I only gave 4 stars because my dinner mates weren't as wowed as I was. They all did the 3 Course Chef's Offering. Hubby got the Harissa meatball...meatball was good, sauce & orzo that went with it...not so much. The others got Caesar salads; one like it, the other didn't. For their main courses, they got chili brined hanger steak (steak & mash were great, the greens weren't) & wood grilled Baffoni Statler Chicken (again...not a fan of the greens). They all had Vanilla Orange Creme Brûlée...very good. It is a bit pricy, but I would go again. Sorry my dinner buddies weren't as pleased with their meals as I was with mine. read more

Incredible evening! We had made reservations at Hemmenway's but since we go there often I had decided to talk the friends who were going with us to switch it up and try Waterrman Grille. The person in charge of reservations actually picked the wrong date and we showed up (starving) for a late dinner to no plan. The host generously allowed us to hang out in the (closed) downstairs event area to have a drink and wait until a table opened up. Our company are FOODIES and eat out several times a week (even in these Covid times). They said it was the best meal they have had in months! My difficult-to-please hubby was singing the restaurant's praises all night and the next day! Our server Rebecca was AWESOME and moves at light speed. One person ordered the salmon and asked to have it blackened instead of how the menu suggested and said it was executed flawlessly! I tasted someone else's Creme Brûlée (too full for dessert myself) and the notes of vanilla were unlike anything I have had in a Brûlée before. Everyone is excited to return to try brunch! Came here for brunch with a group of 8. We got a table outside by the river, partly in the sun - the waitress was very thoughtful and asked several times if it was ok for us to be in the sun. Reviews of some brunch fare: Omelettes - not bad, good value and customizable with two toppings. Duck confit, spinach, roasted red pepper, caramelized onion to name a few. They come with side fruit salad and roasted potatoes. Lobster grilled cheese - I was really excited to try this but it ended up being more roasted red pepper than lobster - only a few pieces of meat in there! Still delicious, but not worth $18. A special short rib hash with poached eggs - not bad, lots of meat! Breakfast burrito - This was huge!! I didn't try any but it looked legit Service was courteous but a little slow at times. All in all, a nice place to enjoy brunch on a lazy Sunday! Reservations are encouraged for large parties. read more
