Uriel Blancas is the HVAC tech who did the spring maintenance re-check today and he did an exemplary job. 10/10, FIVE STARS IN ALL ASPECTS. TIMELY- Uriel called 30 min before his arrival and then, arrived at the stated time. This is particularly helpful so I can move my bunny to another room with all of his belongings. ATTENTION TO DETAIL - I saw him place a protective cloth down on the floor before he placed the ladder and tools down. I also noticed there was a bottle of cleaner with his supplies. He cleaned the inside vents as well as the compressor on the roof. He also tied off a loose wire/when checking the air handler in the ceiling. KNOWLEDGEABLE and THROROUGH - Uriel did a complete system check and then, he sat down with me to explain what was done and why. He addressed the concerns I had about some of the prior readings in terms that I could understand and shared tips that will help ensure my system runs at its most efficient. Example: A higher MERV doesn't always mean "better" and can actually restrict the airflow. He said that for my particular system I should use a MERV10 filter and change it every 3 months. He changed my filters and then, left me with two spares to use before the fall check comes. FRIENDLY - In the course of chatting with Uriel, it came up that I might benefit from having more filtered air coming into my condo. He made a recommendation for a part that would replace the standalone room air purifier I currently use. He placed this info into the after-visit summary so I can "research it and see if it fits with my needs and finances." There was zero pressure to make a purchase on the spot. And while this next item has nothing to do with the knowledge or ability of an HVAC tech, I greatly appreciate that he did NOT smell like cigarette / e-cigarette smoke or strong cologne as I have a bunny and people in my family have asthma. Robin from West Coast came to the home that I recently purchased and performed an extensive plumbing evaluation. He recommended replacing 5 angle stops in the kitchen and laundry room to prevent unexpected leaks and hooked up the washer and dryer. I told him that I was having trouble getting hot water in the kitchen and master bathroom without having to waste a lot of water waiting for the water to get hot. He recommended replacing the water heater with a tankless and adding a water circulator to provide instant hot water in the areas of concern. He is returning in about a week to complete the installation. He was very knowledgeable and took time to explain each recommendation and options. Although there were some issues but the technicians were super helpful to fix it without a problem or extra charge. I had a wonderful experience with West Coast Heating Air Solar. A broken AC in the thick of a San Diego fall heatwave is a rather stressful experience. My experience with West Coast was calming and reassuring. Firstly, response rate on Yelp is very quick. I called to schedule a consulting appointment when I smelled a burning smell from my AC and I saw my condenser line outside was frozen over. Chary came out for a free consultation and quickly determined my blower motor was busted and would need replacement. Fortunately, the part was covered under warranty. He was very friendly and even put on shoe covers without me needing to ask which was awesome. He walked me through what the issues were and answered my many technical questions. The initial estimate on pricing was higher than I was hoping for but I really wanted to go with West Coast for their quality and expertise. I worked with ownership to see if there was a middle ground on pricing. I was a very pleased to report they came back with a great offer and I happily accepted. I had a small hiccup in scheduling as the part took about a week to arrive but I had to call twice before I was informed that the part wouldn't arrive till later and which point they would contact me to schedule the appointment. I would have preferred a text or Yelp message letting me know the part was scheduled to arrive later that week so I wouldn't worry. Chary arrived to perform the Installation which he did very quickly within an hour. I asked Chary if he could also assist me with validating my downstairs condenser unit since it had frozen over. He took voltage measurements of my capacitor and assured me my condenser was good to go. I also added the West Coast club 1 year checkup service which comes with 2 white glove check up visits every 6 months. This activated a lifetime warranty on the part installed. Just had Thomas come and fix our a/c, it was making a really loud vibrating hum noise. Was able to get a same day appt for this afternoon between 2-4. Got a call just before 2 that he was on his way, very prompt. He was able to diagnose and explain the possible cause/solution....we went with the basic repair to start: new capacitor, ac renew , refrigerant charge , leak seal , and vibration pads . Total was $1844, which seemed reasonable. With that we get 2 inspections for the year - they will come out and check the heater & a/c again. Now it works great, issue resolved. read more

Good experience with West Coast for servicing a residential water heater! On the Yelp system, the main office provided a clear answer to my inquiry about whether they could work on an aging water heater as well as a competitive quote. The main office also provided good email updates about appointment status and speedy email confirmation of billing/payment status. Chary from the firm showed up on time for the appointments. On the first, he confirmed the initial quote in a no-pressure manner. He found that my water heater to be an uncommon model, so the particular replacement part was not available in his truck. The firm seems to be based closer to downtown San Diego than north county where the water heater was, and so a follow-up visit was needed after the part was obtained. In the second appointment, he replaced the aging anode rod and flushed the tank, all in an friendly, efficient manner. He clearly explained everything that he was doing. I contacted Westcoast to overlook an AC that hadn't been serviced in a few years. We had a different company come out to overlook the outside unit before. An older Rheem unit. Sam came out and was very detail oriented with his initial inspection to ensure me I would be making the right decision. After showing me proof photos of issues and concerns with the outside unit and the furnace in the hallway, we decided to go with his recommendation. The other company didn't exactly show me what I needed to know about all the dust that was caked up inside the furnace unit and the fan and motor. Honest work from Sam. Pricing would be considered competitive considering all of his work today was labor only. He showed up promptly and communicated with me about his arrival and respected our home as I was not present(but my wife was). Sam did a full service work up minus Freon since I had Freon redone a few years back. Washed condenser coils, removed the electrical unit from the furnace, vacuumed the dust, dismantled the blower and motor, washed the housing, overlooked the condenser coils in the furnace, washed the Rheem unit after putting some condenser cleaning solution. I called West Coast Heating to look into an AC leak. They're technically the 4th opinion I've requested for this issue. The tech, Uriel, stood out from other techs in terms of professionalism and thoroughness. His initial inspection took twice as long and covered far more ground than the other techs I'd seen. He documented everything, photos, logs, readings, and notes. And this was all sent to me in a clear, detailed report that I used as reference to make a decision. As I write this review a month later, I can still easily find the records. As an engineer, I gravitate towards evidence and a clear rationale so I could not resist asking a lot of questions, which Uriel handled very well. He showed solid working knowledge and real world experience. He knew his stuff and gave confident, grounded answers with unnecessary guesswork. For example, he said "this is a common failure point but we won't know for sure without a leak test". In contrast, other techs would be overly confident or absolute, saying that I needed to replace either the condenser or the whole thing. That kind of honesty/straight-shooter-ness was refreshing to see and builds trust. We ended up doing the dye test and identified the issue, a faulty valve stem. The inspection went well. The technician was able to provide me with a very thorough analysis of what my problem actually was, he was very honest and told me my ducts were in bad shape, anyone saying just a cleaning is trying to pull one over on me. He recommended a replacement, which I ultimately went with. They scheduled my work about two weeks later because my job wasn't an emergency, I could still cool the house (summertime). They were not the cheapest, but for the price it was very high quality duct work plus a new warranty on my ducts. The payment process was easy too, I put a deposit on my credit card to start work and they gave me to option to pay the rest the same card automatically after they completed the work.
