On this date night for my wife and I, our server Kenneth provided excellent service and recommendations. I always get the WC Old Fashion. Kenneth noticed I was reviewing the other cocktails and recommended the Little Rye Lies (black tea simple syrup) Old Fashion. Went there on a Monday for social hour. The great escape was on the social hour menu and was delicious, a pineapple sweetness. I was not impressed with the Wagyu corn dog. The jelly on the mini board was really good. It only comes with 3 slices of bread, which was not enough for the board. We had to order more bread to accompany the jelly and pimento cheese, Gouda, and sausage. Atmosphere was very relaxed. Staff was very nice and attentive. Not very busy. The highlight was definitely the whiskey cake with ice cream and home made whipped cream. Definitely a must if you have never indulged. My husband and I had breakfast at Whiskey Cake this morning, and everything was fantastic! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. I had the crab Benedict (so good!), and my husband ordered the hash. We also started with the goat cheese appetizer -- highly recommend. Of course, we couldn't pass up a couple of Wabbit Smash cocktails -- they're my favorite! Our server, Josh, was wonderful. He took great care of us, but what really stood out to me was how he handled the table next to us. They had a young child who asked for apple juice, which they don't carry. Josh got down at her eye level and kindly offered her several other options. It was such a small moment, but it really impressed me -- the way he treated her with the same respect and attention he gave the adults. Came here for lunch during the week and was so happy. Was a little heavy for heading back to work but totally worth it. Started with the goat cheese that was so light and rich it was a great start. I got the chicken and kale salad with a side of Mac n cheese and that was just as good. The produce is fresh and flavors are spot on. Walking into the venue, you're immediately greeted by the captivating scents of cake- vanilla, butter, sugar. At that moment I decided that I would have cake for lunch. The entry way is filled with luscious smelling candles (think cake!) and jarred preserves to purchase. But alas! We were seated quickly and I didn't have time to look through all the goods. My family decided to gather here to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday. As the guest of honor had not yet arrived, the rest of us decided to put in our drink orders. The service started off a little slow. We ordered drinks, the rest of our party arrived, cakes are being pulled out of the oven, but our water was MIA. I try to give a lot of grace regarding service these days considering the state of the world, but I'm guessing there's a correlation. Anyway, eventually, our waiter returns with drinks and takes our app order. I go for a simple Old Fashioned and it was perfect! We also got a round of shots called 50 shades of berries which was remarkable! Also on the table was a flight of mimosas. The drinks were all on point. I wasn't particularly hungry on this day, but I wanted to snack on something (other than cake) so I went for the Arrosto Misto which are described as "fire-roasted baby carrots, cauliflower, broccolini, shishitos, candied cashews, red miso butter." I didn't see the candied cashews, but I was blown away by the flavor of these simple roasted veggies. They were incredible. The smokiness transformed them completely. For a second I thought I was eating meat Also on the table we're: fried green tomatoes, the charcuterie, fondue, a pork chop, a burger, fries, Mac and cheese, and lots of other goodness. Each menu item was a generous helping and beautifully presented. Everyone was pleased with everything. Now the cake. Described as "sticky toffee cake, bourbon anglaise, spiced pecans, housemade vanilla whipped cream." It was everything. I imagine this is what heaven smells like. The serving was enough to share with the table and it came with a huge dollop of whipped cream on the side. The cake was decadent! Even though I said I couldn't eat another bite, I kept going back for that anglaise and pecans. I learned that you can order a single portion, a half cake, or a whole cake. This will be my go-to dessert for events! It was a very long and enjoyable Friday lunch which would normally be great! It's served with focaccia bread lightly coated in the best olive oil and topped with beautifully charred sun-dried tomato, olives, and garlic. I've never had an entree I didn't love. You really can't go wrong with any choice. Make sure to add a cup of the wagyu beef chili to your entree. You won't regret it. Lastly, GET THE WHISKEY CAKE! Very friendly and helpful staff, we went right as they opened so no wait. We started with a mimosa flight and a New York Sour (used to be listed on the menu but isn't anymore, but they still make it) very yummy! I prefer the cranberry over the other juices. Deviled eggs were amazing, devoured before we thought to take a photo. There was tomato, piece of bacon and some microgreens on top. 3 little pigs were amazing! Loved the Brussel sprout slaw, it gave it a fresh taste and crunch. My husband had the Shrimp & grits, it had a very nice flavor. I had the brunch plate, Croque Madame-It, the salad was amazing with the lemon vinaigrette, very refreshing. I didn't realize it would be a sandwich under the eggs, thought it would be a slice of toast, with the other things on top, it was very filling. It's no surprise that they're always busy! A reservation during any potential busy time is a must. The drinks are delicious, and the staff are great at guiding you depending on what spirits or ingredients you enjoy. Their menu is seasonal, so the food options tend to change slightly throughout the year. My favorite mystery is their deviled eggs, the toppings on which change all the time. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their dishes, but the Chicken & Waffle and Shrimp & Grits had us mesmerized this time. Bayleigh took great care of us and made dining at Whiskey Cake all the more enjoyable. We couldn't fit any more food in our stomachs at the end and regrettably had to turn down a dish of their namesake dessert, but it is something you'll call home about if you try it. read more

This restaurant is pretty large and the ambiance is rustic and clean. It's a very cool look. But it is loud in here. We can barely hear each other speak. There were TONS of staff present ready to help. The server was very pleasant and knew her material. She was able to answer questions and make suggestions. The food, well, let's just say the cake rescued this experience. The duck wings were crispy. They tasted good, but the wing itself lacked seasoning. The two salads were really good. Everything was so fresh and the dressings were flavorful. The fried green tomatoes were okay. The batter was a little wet and lacked in structure. But I ate them, so clearly they weren't all that bad lol I'm noticing a trend in these reviews that I always seem to say I would return for the dessert. This place is no different. With a group of 6 of us, our bill before tip was about $350, with only 3 of the people ordering drinks. The Old fashion we have was very good, but also very sweet. I personally ordered Blackberry muddled Vodka with Club Soda and lime, and that was a server reccomendation that led to a cup of blackberries soaked in vodka and a splash of club soda, which wasnt bad but the texture was very intimidating for others to try even. Would I go back? Yes, I'd try it again. For a Glass of scotch or whiskey and a side of brussel sprouts, but would I reccomend a group setting here, not at all, its harder to communicate with everyone, you cant quite see the menus with the darkness, and you are likely to be sit at a table that is sectioned off with another group at the same table. I am a creature of habit and always order the 3 Little Pigs appetizer (sliders) and eat it as a meal- it's more than enough. It comes served on a brick and makes for a unique food presentation. Service has always been spectacular, and it seems like the dress code for the men is ~lumberjack~. It's darkly lit and cozy, and often packed so it's better to make a reservation ahead of time. Favorite cocktail is the Great Escape. I believe they have happy hour and reverse happy hour. I have heard all good things about the other dishes on the menu as well. It had been a minute since we went to Whiskey Cake so we were happy to accept the invitation from friends to have dinner and drinks. Even though we had reservations for an early Saturday evening slot, we had to wait 30 minutes before we were seated so just be aware that it gets busy on weekends and you might not get a table when you expected it. We were all pleased with our beer and cocktail choices although they were a little slow to come out. We ordered 3 snacks for the table- goat cheese fondue, duck wings, and steamed mussels. The mussels could have been the winner because the sauce was so delicious, but there was no serving spoon to get everything mixed together, and too many mussels were unopened. The goat cheese fondue was the clear winner. For main course, I was really looking forward to the shrimp and grits because I've had it before, but it was a huge disappointment. The presentation was not appealing at all, the grits were stodgy and caked together. There was nothing creamy about them, the way shrimp and grits are normally served. The chicken waffle gravy was barely warm, and the steak that came with frites was overcooked. Another person in our party said the salmon was good. Of course we shared the whiskey cake. How can you not?? Delicious! Not sure what happened while we were there but there was some shouting coming from the kitchen, and it grabbed the attention of our server. We asked what was going on, and he said it was nothing, that the chef yells at the servers all the time. A little awkward. First of all, I'll say that the food was good. The reason for the 3-star review is this: 1. When we placed our order with our server, part of our order was for appetizers. We never got them. When we pointed that out to our server, they admitted they had forgotten to include them when our order was put into the system. They asked if we still wanted them, and we declined. At that point, we were hoping our entrees were being prepared and on the way. 2. After waiting for 25 minutes, and no food, our server stopped by and said the kitchen was backed up. We weren't quite sure why as there was a manageable crowd in the restaurant. And a number of people in the kitchen working away. As a matter of fact, there were quite a number of empty tables (it was 2:30 pm). Tables around us, seated/ordered after us, were getting their food. 3. At about the 30 minute mark, a cup of chili that I had ordered did arrive. Flavor wise, it was on point. Temperature? Warm at best. 3. When we finally did receive our entrees, and at that point it had been at least 40 minutes, it was not served at the temp it should've been. That made us believe our food had been sitting in the kitchen, for whatever reason. Our entrees were good, yet the temp of our food, all of it, was barely warm. Please make sure ALL staff are aware of the importance of serving food at the proper temps, and getting it from the kitchen to the guest in a timely fashion while the food is HOT. Suggestion: less sour cream on top of the chili and serve Frito's on the side with the chili (or at least make it an option). Would we go back? Yes, we would. We are hoping, the day of our visit, was just an "off" day. The food was really good, it just needs to be served hot! read more

Busy busy restaurant. Whiskey Cake is a large restaurant with lots of seating and also has a large bar area. We had reservations for 3 of us on a Friday evening and had to wait a decent amount of time before being seated. Kristen was our server and was friendly and engaging. We started with cocktails and two of us ordered the Bee Sting. My friend wanted the jalapeño in hers and I didn't but asked for mezcal for the tequila. They switched our drinks and I had to wait to get the attention of someone to correct my drink order. We started with the deviled eggs and flash fried Brussels sprouts. The eggs were topped with cranberry & turkey. Pretty yum! The Brussels sprouts weren't crispy (darn!) but were packed with flavor. We then shared two entrees, the chicken & waffle and the shrimp & grits. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and laid on top creamy cheesy chile grits. Then there's that malt waffle...light and airy...topped with a very moist & crispy chicken tender and overeasy eggs. It's served with maple syrup and gravy on the side. It was delish. The reason you need to go to this restaurant is to order its namesake, the whiskey cake. The manager Matt stopped by our table to ask how we enjoyed the food and then offered us a complimentary whiskey cake. So nice! When I first heard of "Whiskey Cake," I thought back to the time I put too much Jack Daniels in my steak marinade. While that was a bad decision, eating at Whiskey Cake is one of the best things to do in Texas. Their service was great at the door, and our waitress, Melissa, was extremely knowledgeable about everything Whiskey Cake had to offer. I ordered the Ribeye (mid-rare), and an Old Fashioned. When I bit into the ribeye, I felt like Anton Ego after he bit into Remy's Ratatouille. IT CHANGED MY LIFE. We had a late lunch early dinner kind of day. We walked in and it was hipster vibe. Whiskey Cake is a farm to table claim, with many local vendors, farmers, and ranchers supporting their ingredients. Without even digging, I saw Garrison Brothers in their Whiskey collection and they are just down the road. We were greeted with a smile and a fun vibe by CiCi. She was a delight and never lost that gorgeous smile. We started by trying the Chicken Meatballs and Candied Bacon. I quite enjoyed the bacon. It was literally pork belly in a Smokey sweet sauce that had been caramelized with a bit of a crunchy exterior but the meat was melt in your mouth tender. My son had the Tri Tip Dip, say that 5 times fast, it was a beautiful sandwich and he didn't leave a crumb. My mother had a chicken melt sandwich with house made kettle chips. She loved the sourdough bread and said the chicken was delicious. I had the Hot Hen and let me tell you it is such a generous portion of mildly spicy chicken breast on a potato bun with some tasty garlic aioli. I had 2 huge pieces of chicken on that sandwich. I had to use a fork and I left some behind to save room for the star of the show. Before I do tell you about the main event I do have to mention their homemade ketchup and hand cut fries. You have to try them. The ketchup has a special guest that I wasn't expecting but fell in love with. Mustard seeds in the ketchup gave it such a unique flavor. I really want to go back and just have some fries so I can enjoy them. I really loved this addition to my meal. Now, the place is called Whiskey Cake, so you have to try it! It is so delicious. There's chocolate cake, pecans, a sweet white sauce, a better than any toffee sauce I've ever had sauce, homemade whipped cream, and vanilla ice cream. I cannot tell you with words how happy my tongue and taste buds were. There was a disco going on in my mouth. This is a must try! The mac and cheese was creamy with perfectly toasted breadcrumbs.
