Whiskey Cake is my place!! Been here probably 10 times and all 10 times have be great! Went for brunch this last time (of course made reservations) and we were sat right away. Waitress came right up to our table and brought us water and took our drink and appetizer orders. A few minutes go by and our drinks were served, my wife got the Beet Le Juice that she always gets because she loves that drink! I ordered the WC Old Fashioned, and it was made perfectly! Our appetizer arrived which was the deviled eggs, but they looked very different this time and had cranberry and a little chunk of meat on them... So we tried them of course and they were great! Fresh and very tasty with the extra toppings. Shortly after we goy our entree's, I got the chicken and waffles! Waffles were crispy and soft in the center, the egg was cooked perfectly and the chicken was crispy and very tender! My wife got the Pappardelle Pasta, and with a little salt and pepper it was great! She said the noodles were cooked perfectly and the brisket was very tender. We ordered a whiskey cake to bring home and that was awesome as well! They pack it so nicely and all separated. I met up with my therapist girls and only ordered a fresh cold pressed carrot juice that night - it was good! FAST FORWARD 5ish years later, we came back to celebrate our Christmas gathering. Environment screams date night with the dim lights/ cozy feel. Great for small groups for sure. Drink menu is 100% - cleaner ingredients than most drink places. I mostly appreciate the farm to table commitment. The food is pricy for the serving size BUT ITS DEFINITELY WORTH IT BECAUSE it's CLEANER food. I can say this is one of my most favorite restaurants. We were seated quickly and got coffee which was served very beautifully I may say. We ordered the biscuits to start which were okay so I think those could be skipped, but my carrot cake pancakes w lavender glaze were to die for. Beautifully tender and the glaze wasn't too sweet. Brussel Sprouts Deviled Eggs Mussels Fried green tomatoes (I actually didn't love these) Lemongrass Shrimp and Soba Noodle Salad Chicken n Waffles Ribs and Mashed Sweet Potatoes (these were more savory than my taste would allow me to enjoy) A few other items And of course the WHISKEY CAKE! When I tell you, it was one flavorful experience after another, I mean it! The two not-so-great items for me just weren't my taste. While the Fried Green Tomatoes were firm themselves, I was not a fan of how they were Fried. They weren't breaded like I'm accustomed to eating. The mashed sweet potatoes were savory, but had some cranberries, so it was a little different. Now, I've never had whiskey cake before and may not be the best to judge, but when I tell you that whiskey cake was EVERYTHING, I mean it! We started with the Butcher Board, the pimiento cheese on the board was excellent. I think this was the best pimiento cheese I have ever had. Vegetable soup was ok, the soup base was a deep red tomato and very thick. The soup serving was large; I wish they offered a smaller serving. Soup had large diced carrots, and other veggies. The soup was very flavorful, but too thick for my liking. Main entries were: chicken & cheese melt; Ciabatta bread was delicious, and the inside of the sandwich good, but the chicken did not have much flavor. Bone in pork chop- was excellent, cooked to perfection, the glaze was an excellent accompaniment and the corn-edamame delicious. The pork chop was cooked perfectly & moist. Different, but in my opinion better than the pork chop sold next door (@ the restaurant that is knows for its pork chop). Tavern burger was solid, flavorful and good, the Mac & cheese that accompanied the burger-excellent. No desert this time but you HAVE TO HAVE THE WHISKY CAKE, it's delicious. Stopped for a meal at Whiskey Cakes after a medical appointment and race packet pick up. It took longer than expected to be seated today. We stood at the hostess stand for a good 5 minutes before we were acknowledged but once we were seated, Jackson took great care of us. Happy hours happened to be from 3-6 pm (and again at 9-11 pm), just 12 minutes away. YAY! We ordered The Great Escape cocktail for $6 and the Malbec for $5 off the Social Hour Menu. My daughter ordered the Wagyu Corn Dog ($6 for from Social Hour menu) and Mac & Cheese (sides). My husband and I order the pull pork sliders and deviled eggs from the Snack menu as well as the Switch Back sandwich (smashed burger with pastrami) and fries to share. And, of course we had to try the Whisky cake. My husband with his sweet tooth ordered TWO. Goodness! Everything was super tasty but don't look at the calorie count! This is a farm to table restaurant that is located on the end of a mall. I would very highly recommend this restaurant! My husband and I went to lunch here. I had the hot hen which is a chicken sandwich and it came with the best homemade chips! I got a small side salad and ordered goat cheese to be added. YUM!! The best goat cheese I have ever tasted! All of the salad dressings are homemade and so delicious! My husband had the OMG hamburger and he said it was one of the best hamburgers he's ever had and he's had a lot! Ha! They put red pepper flake in the ketchup that we really liked. The ice tea was really good. We were only in town for a few days so we didn't have the chance to go back. The burgers and sandwiches are bigger and tastier than they should be at the price point. The fish was concerningly big. You get a plate of perfectly breaded fish bigger than your head and feel like you're about to be charged for 2-3 meals. So finally got to try this place after a couple first starts where the wait was just too long. My son could not decide where he wanted to eat for his birthday(15), and we had family coming in town so I decided to make a reservation here. They were very accommodating. We had 7 people and our initial table was one of those high tops where another party can sit right next to you. And I have never been a fan of those. Our waitress noticed we were uncomfortable and asked if we would like another table. We told her we would and she found us a high too all to ourselves, which was great because we had two more join our party later and had more than enough room. The place is huge and it's loud. It's a little hard to hold a convo if you aren't real close to one another but it was fine. The food was really good. The 4 little pigs appetizer was a melange of flavors. I ordered the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. Very tender. My son ordered the hot hen sandwich and said it was his favorite chicken sandwich ever. From the turkey burger to the salad to the roasted chicken to a kids chicken tenders, everyone enjoyed their meals. Our waitress checked on us an appropriate amount of times I felt and always seemed keen to our needs. I gave them a star off because even though I told them it was my son's birthday, and I made note of it on the reservation, there was no effort made to recognize it. Not a desert offer, not a song, not an extra napkin. That might be nitpicky but it made me just go hmmmmmm, cause it was the first time I had experienced that at any restaurant. Our visit was in July 2024 and I've been meaning to leave a review since then. ‍ We made a reservation for dinner and as soon as I walked in, the ambiance set my mood to shock and awe I loved everything from the decor to the table settings and light fixtures. Kudos to whoever hired the decorator. Our server greeted us with a warm welcome and was extremely attentive the entire time (and we were a table of 17). I want to say his name was Todd but I could be wrong. What I do remember is, he made great recommendations, including the dinner I ordered which was the bone-in pork chop and it was absolutely delicious. I am a huge pork chop fan and I have never had pork chop cooked and seasoned this way. Every bite was flavorful and tender. It was paired with the sweet corn-edamame succotash, which I also have never had prior to my visit and I would've ordered another serving of it had I not been so full. The combination of the corn and edamame was certainly savoring. For dessert, I had a bite (remember, I was already full from cleaning my dinner plate) of their famous whiskey cake and OMG did it make my eyes roll back in pure joy and bliss. The spiced pecans is what tipped the scale for me. Well done to the chefs and staff. Including the manager that night, who stopped by our table to say hello and to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you to all at Whiskey Cake. Every time we visit La Cantera, we usually park in the back by Perry's and Whiskey Cake is right next to it. We never went in thinking it was just a bar. My husband suggested today we try it today for lunch. It was a great idea! Ale, our server, was fantastic. A huge party, around 13 people, arrived and sat across from us and it was Ale's table. However, the teamwork exhibited by the other servers and supervisor was so refreshing to experience. This teamwork worked so that everyone would be treated well and no one lacked any personal attention. Usually when there are only 2 people in a table and the waitress is assigned a huge table, service falls through the cracks. Here, none of that happened. We were provided refills without waiting and lunch was great. Our food arrived hot and timely. The food was just as good as the service. My husband had a Reuben sandwich and I had a melted burger. Ale asked if I wanted to add avocado inside the burger, which was a great idea. It was AMAZING! We both brought 1/2 our lunch home and we can't wait to return. You could taste each element of the sandwich, and one did not over power the other. I would recommend this sandwich. I ordered the hand cut fries with mustard seed ketchup. The fries were a little on the limp side but still very flavorful. What was more interesting was the mustard seed ketchup! It had a nice kick and it didn't have a powerful mustard taste. I think it's an acquired taste but I dug it! DOUBLE DOUBLE BURGER: it had 2 Pattie's, with white american, mustard seed aioli, comeback sauce, pickles on a sesame milk bun. It was a good flavored burger but if you don't like mustard, just ask for no mustard seed aioli. Overall, it was juicy and very flavorful. And for the best thing on the Menu...the WHISKEY CAKE which is a sticky toffee cake with a bourbon anglaise, spiced pecans and house made vanilla whipped cream. It was heaven!!! You can't taste the alcohol at all and it was warm, ooey and gooey! It was decadent, not overly sweet and truly one of the best deserts I've ever had!
