So my bf and son got the chicken and waffles, my oldest got a 14oz steak I believe it was and I got the shrimp and rigatoni. I did not care for my dish, the shrimp was cold compared to the pasta, which was burning hot so idk if the shrimp was cooked quicker and they were waiting in the pasta so threw it in the microwave? And the pasta was over cooked, it tasted very rubbery. We had a few drinks as well and decided to get a margarita tower. I'm going to have to pass on that if we ever go back in the future bc I def do not think they add the right amount of tequila for the portion of the rest. Food was ok tonight. The shrimp pasta was overly salty as were the fries. The sandwiches and spinach dip were good. Of course the dessert was the highlight of the dinner. We done here twice a year for birthdays. It may have been an off day in the kitchen but it won't stop us from eating here. I felt like Rocky Balboa once I got to the top and the building was like a mecca of achievement with the Sun beaming and everything. Upon entry, almost every decoration in this restaurant incorporate live plants or herbs. The interior was like a cross between a whiskey distillery and your living room. While we waited for the host, I ate one piece of Slo Poke caramel candies for the first time and grabbed a few more because they were so good! The bar wall here is SICK! It was like a candy store for alcohol. I think whatever drink you wanted, they could make it! The lights from the ceiling were encased in ropes which was pretty cool. At our table was a light bulb filled with water that housed live rosemary. My bestie ordered candied bacon. When I bit down into it, it was still warm and sort of melted in my mouth in a savory sweet bliss. I ordered a crispy chicken salad instead of chicken and waffles because I really wanted to try the chicken which did not disappoint. It was well seasoned and perfectly crisp. The Speakeasy Margarita I ordered had me speechless. It was probably only the second drink during my 5 day visit in San Antonio that had actual alcohol I could taste in it. And it was Grand Marnier at that so a perfect way to end my trip! And now for the REAL reason for the visit, The Whiskey Cake. When our waitress sat it down, I snapped several pictures of its diabetical glory. Our waitress even gave me more house made whipped cream to add to my A1C. Each bite was rich. With each bite you could taste every bit of it - candied spiced nuts, the whiskey in the toffee sauce and your A1C shooting up! I left the bowl of whipped cream on the table. Came to Whiskey Cake as soon as we landed in San Antonio. We are visiting from Florida to meet my sister's husband's family and this is where my sister and her husband suggested we meet for lunch. We started with the grilled snap peas (sounds boring, but they were unique and INCREDIBLE) followed by the chicken and cheese sandwich, kale salad, brussel sprouts (unbelievable) and charred vegetables (mediocre - not enough variety of vegetables and lacking flavor). We topped off the meal with the legendary Whiskey Cake which, by and far, stole the show. Would strongly recommend starting your next meal here with the whiskey cake and then ordering your entree. Nice place with pretty interior, good food, drinks and service. On a Friday night there was a 45 min wait but we were able to instead get a reservation for 8:30 and arrived for the reservation time. Ordered a smoked chicken salad and the French dip sandwich with fries (smoked tri tip dip). The fries are amazing! The salad was a little heavy on the dressing but otherwise awesome with fresh bacon, grilled chicken, avocado and a boiled egg; will just get the dressing on the side next time. Outside of this hickup of having to wait even though we were on time, the service went well. Our server was on top of bringing us what we needed and asked for- plus taking our orders. Everything here was good- I got my usual Chicken and waffles and it was just as good as I remember! I love this place. I met up with a few friends after work. We made a reservation and our table was ready for the time arranged. Two out of five of us had eaten here before. I did not know that they have a "social hour"! It is from 3-6 and features both alcoholic drink and a few select appetizers. Of course I got the Goat Cheese fondue for my meal - I could eat that everyday all day. Beer: We hoped that a place like Whiskey Cake would have a beer we already loved, and they did. If you want a nutty stout, get the 512 Pecan Porter. And, you're welcome. I came here with family for dinner. We arrived early for our reservation at 7pm and they seated us early. We started with drinks. They had a great assortment of whiskey based cocktails, as you would expect, and some other wonderful cocktails. I tried a fruity cocktail with jalapeño in it....truly amazing! If I was a multiple drink person, I would ordered a second! I forgot to take a picture, so please forgive me, but the presentation was great. As for my main course, I ordered the French onion burger...as did two other individuals at our table. We all ordered burgers cooked a little different, medium-well, medium and medium rare. All our burgers were great but all were cooked the same. The French fries were perfectly crispy and the house ketchup had a nice twist to it. At our table, we also had the chicken sandwhich-phenomenal from what I was told and a chicken salad. We had one small problem with the salad, which is partially the reason for the four stars. The manager handled the situation and all was good. The other reason for the four stars was simply because of the size of the menu. It seemed much smaller than what we are use to at whiskey cake. The my had so many drink options but only ~1 page of actual food choices. When I go out to eat, I already know what I'm ordering, so a small menu doesn't affect me. However, when we pick places to take family, we are usually looking for a little bit more variety to reach all taste buds. Overall a great experience and I would give this more of a 4.5 stars if that was a possibility. read more

After a few friends recommended Whiskey Cake we decided we needed to give it a try. On first appearance, this place is great! It's right outside of a lot of fun shopping and activities. Our food was really the disappointment. My wife got the steak and I got the tavern burger. Her steak was good and the sauce was decent. I ordered my burger medium and it came out dry and well done. It was an ok burger but I'd genuinely choose a fast food burger over this...especially for the price. Our fries were so salty we couldn't eat them. The cook on them was good but the salt was overwhelming. The ketchup tasted like dish soap. We decided to try the whiskey cake and were disappointed here too. The cake was dry and it was difficult to really taste the "whiskey" part of the cake. Overall though this was the best part of the meal. A bit overhyped and overpriced in my opinion. I tried their famous whiskey cake through Uber Eats. The order was done in a timely manner. The cake came with two different types of whipped creams. I have not tried whiskey cake before, so I have nothing to compare it to. I thought cake was pretty good! This was our first visit to the Whiskey Cake, however they had my attention at "Whiskey". I had their hamburger but I have to say it was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time and the fries were out of this world. I also tried their Old Fashion special they had that day and was very impressed with the Old Aged Austin Bourbon that was used....DELICIOUS! Our server gave us some history on the restaurant and I was sincerely impressed in how they use and recycle things around them to make the restaurant so beautiful. The service was beyond reproach, something you do not see enough of these days. You can't leave without trying the Whiskey Cake, but you may want to share it with someone because it is a very large portion but well worth it. I fell in love with the atmosphere, it is the type of place you can come even if your not ready for a meal but just want to sit, chat with friends, sip on a good whiskey and share some good times.
