What an amazing find!! I stumbled upon this place by accident (I was getting a haircut at 2 Fader Barbershop next door) and walked in just as they were closing. There was nothing left, except 2 croissants which the owner gave me for FREE!! And let me tell you, they were DELICIOUS!! Flaky and buttery, just how a croissant should be!! A cute bakery with indoor and outdoor seating. When you walk in the bakery is very welcoming with gorgeous golden yellow walls and a simple setup. They make everything fresh in the back including their chai which was a nice fragrant and spice forward chai. Exactly what I've been wanting. Their cortado was also delicious. It's tucked away off Henry Lynch which creates a quiet atmosphere. The only bummer I found was they don't have wifi. read more

Stumbled upon this bakery storefront recently. We tried their gluten-free loaf, which was VERY TASTY but too crumbly for sandwiches. Next time, we tried Walnut Bread & it was perfect! (We're not gluten-free.) Today we tried a loaf with chunky nuts & raisins. SO GOOD! But I'd love more raisins in it... they were pretty sparse & I wanted more of the little sweet "blasts" of flavor. Hands down, these are the best freshly baked and satisfying loaves of bread we've found in Santa Fe so far. We always buy at least two different half loaves. One being the rye fennel molasses and one the original sourdough. Sometimes we can't help it and go for a 3rd option of their bread bc every single bread tastes differently and is delicious. very bad experience interacting with the owner. I've visited three times, at each I was treated poorly (although brusk with all customers i've noticed he treats women more demeaningly than men). I've also witnessed him not being kind to his staff and overheard him complaining about his business to other costumers. It really makes me wonder why you'd even bother to create good products that are ultimately made to nourish people when your lack of kindness gets transferred to your food and ultimately that translates into people not wanting to come back. If you cannot handle costumer care then just hire someone that can. I like to support local businesses but there has to be some good natured reciprocation. read more

Found them in 2019. Great bread. NOT customer-service oriented (or friendly). Very limited operating hours. Non-responsive on email & rude when they finally do reply. Their latest thing is not providing- actually refusing when asked- a plastic sack covering the brown bag with purchase of whole loaf of bread (to help keep it fresh, especially when traveling). Wild Leaven Bakery has a sourdough bread that has a bit of moisture to it and is very tasty. I had to eat only sourdough bread for a while because of some intestinal issues and once those cleared up I kept eating it because it was so good. They also have a fantastic ginger molasses cookie. It is hard to find a ginger cookie in Santa Fe, let alone one as good as this! I highly recommend Wild Leaven! read more

This morning, Jan. 11, 2025, was my first time to buy bread at Wild Leaven in their new Santa Fe location. It might be my last, though I've bought from them a number of times over many years, including at the Taos FM, Santa Fe locations, and even La Chiripada Winery when they were just getting started. Never have the bakers/proprietors been welcoming or pleasant. In fact, it has always been just the opposite -- unwelcoming, rude, seemingly "put upon" to answer basic questions about their products, and not just from me but customers ahead of me. Each time, I wrote it off as "Oh, they're just having a bad day." This morning, they were ruder than ever. I recommend that they hire staff who know their products and enjoy routine communications with customers. Mostly excellent bread, but their rudeness is inexcusable and unproductive. I routinely tip 20% at food and beverage establishments, often more with exceptional service; this morning, I left no tip and didn't say thank you, my usual practice. read more

Great bread! But they keep insisting on giving me bread out of their refrigerator instead of fresh. It isn't a good idea keep any bread in the refrigerator. That's why your grandma had a bread box on the counter. Cold temperatures will cause the starch in your bread to recrystallize and lose moisture and the loss of moisture will cause the bread to become dry, tough, and give the bread a stale flavor. Insist that they give you fresh bread. If you get it fresh it is the best in town! read more
