Planned a wonderful day in Dana Point and booked a lunch reservation at Wind&Sea. The restaurant did not seem very crowded at 12pm on a Saturday, so reservations may not be necessary. We were seated in a sideways booth that overlooked the harbor, and it was beautiful! We not only saw views of boats passing, but also of sea lions playing in the water! I wonder if they ever open up these windows, because it was a beautiful day and the breeze would have been nice to feel inside. We both loved our meals, the Fish and Chips and chef special Oven Roasted Ono. However the Ono had a thick cheese sauce baked on top that I did not expect. The menu listed a "basil glaze," but I did not think that would include any cheese or dairy, which I typically stay away from. Luckily, I was able to scrape it off and enjoyed a perfectly cooked piece of fish! Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves at lunch here, and even with the menu description mix-up, I would still rate it 5 stars! read more

While visiting Dana Point we came here for dinner. We picked this place by the yelp reviews. There were several restaurants we saw on the way walking here that seemed pretty empty on a Thursday evening. However, when we arrived here, their patio sitting was almost full. Luckily there were few tables open and we got seated immediately. We ordered grilled Ono and grilled chicken club. I was recovering from stomach flu and didn't want any sauce added to the fish. So my fish tasted okay but was just a little dry. My husband liked his chicken club. I tasted a little and it was moist and delicious. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We came in for Thanksgiving dinner. They claimed to be a full capacity with "only one reservation left!" So "dinner" at 11:00 am. This place is not well managed. Although they claimed to be at full capacity most of their tables remained empty throughout our 11:00 am Thanksgiving dinner. Completely empty. Our waitress, "Becca", was okay but has not been particularly well trained. I hate to say this but she leaned directly over our food to ask us just about every question. This meant that intentionally or not, a spray of spittle landed directly onto our food with every utterance. I'm not joking. The basket of rolls brought to our table came over to us less than lukewarm. No butter whatsoever for the rolls. We asked Becca for butter. She seemed surprised we would ask. By the time a little butter finally showed up our rolls were completely cold. Their butter (which was delivered cold and hard) never melted onto any of our cold rolls. It remained hard and congealed, shredding little chunks of cold crumbs off every bun. Speaking of their rolls---bread is apparently a very expensive and coveted item at this place. They dole it out as though it's a basket loaded with diamonds. Hoping for rolls that might eventually melt their few sticks of rigidly cold butter we mustered the gall to ask Becca for more rolls, this time warm. Becca refused to bring us any warm rolls telling us, "we only allow one roll per meal. If you want more bread you cannot have rolls. You will have to buy an entire loaf of bread!Do you want a loaf of bread?" Mind you now, this was during a Thanksgiving meal for which we were paying a minimum of $50 a plate. Oh lord. Butter is also apparently an expensive item for this restaurant to provide. We were strictly allotted ONE square of butter each. No more. When our meals arrived they had all been mixed together onto the same platter which Becca promptly laid onto our table without any explanation before she quickly disappeared. We had no serving utensils whatsoever and no individual plates onto which we could each scoop out our meals. Becca didn't care. She seemed surprised that we asked her for serving utensils and plates.I guess she just figured the whole family should just grab our forks and dive right in to share the same platter bite by bite. By the time she finally returned with a couple of spoons and plates for us our meals were completely cold. I worked in restaurants for more than 20 years. Becca had disappeared again so I stood at our table to serve our family our food. We had to guess what the sauce was in each of the ramekins. We were hungry so we choked down what we could. Time for dessert. The only choice included with our $50 per plate meals was pumpkin pie. Unfortunately, Becca had apparently just pulled our slices of pie directly from the refridgerator. She brought them over to our family with a small dollop of whipped cream already squirted onto each ice cold slice. Each tiny dollop of whipped cream smaller than a ping pong ball. I guess aerosol canned whipped cream is very expensive for this restaurant as well. My husband and I tasted our pie. Nothing remarkable. I've tasted better pre-baked pies from Trader Joe's and Costco. Since our carefully doled out rolls had been delivered cold, our few slices of butter hard and cold and our $50 per meal dinners were cold by the time we could eat them we asked Becca to ask the kitchen to warm up our small slices of stone cold pumpkin pie. Believe it or not, Becca refused. I asked her to please just ask the manager to stop by our table. Becca then informed us she would "ask the manager if" she could "ask the kitchen to warm" our cold slices of pumpkin pie. She seemed unhappy about it. Is this young woman for real? What sort of restaurant manager is she living in fear of? Wind & Sea was still more than half empty at this point. It's hard to imagine any kitchen would be too swamped to heat up a customer's piece of pie when at least half of their tables stood empty and with mixed up platters of food being left on each table. It wasn't as though the kitchen was busily plating individual meals at all. Becca finally returned and grudgingly agreed to ask the kitchen to warm our two remaining slices of partially eaten pie. Becca began to remove our unfinished platter of mishmashed Thanksgiving meals never bothering to ask us if we'd like to take our uneaten food to go. I stopped her and asked for "to go" boxes. She seemed surprised. When she returned she dropped off about half as many boxes as our meals would need. Oh lord. She then, of course, immediately disappeared leaving me to wrap up our meals. The only pluses to eating here are the harbor view and some accessible free parking. The food is nothing remarkable, the service not particularly well trained or adept. Their prices are high given the mediocre quality of their food, their lackluster presentation and less than competent service. read more

I'm honestly surprised by all the negative reviews -- I had an incredible experience here! We sat on the patio, which had a great atmosphere, and the service was excellent. As someone who's very particular about food, I was hesitant to try this place at first, but I'm so glad I did. Everything we ordered was delicious. The poke nachos were a 10/10 with unbelievably fresh fish, the oysters were great, the steak medallions were perfectly tender, and the seared ahi was delish. This place is all about the location. It has a nice patio which is why we booked a reservation. Apparently reservations are for inside so we had to go to a different hostess. Said we would get a seat near the water. Stuck us in the middle on a hard bench. Not comfortable and ruined dinner. Ordered swordfish blackened. Worst I ever had. Dry fish with little taste. Had a sirloin steak sandwich that came with french fries. Pretty spendy over $30. I ate the steak by itself and it was excellent the fries however left much to be desired overcooked and not hot. Popped into Wind and Sea to mix a bit of business with lunch and a drink. The down fall was the Guest WiFi wasn't functioning. The staff mentioned this happend a LOT. From my own invedtigation I could see the bar access point was not connecting to the Router. I put down to the fact that W&S are using Cisco Meraki seurity software, good move to stop hackers aka bad actors. Now what the IT person should have done is flip to page 5 of the install manual and set up a guest account. So I had to leave, probably would have spent north of $50. Now if there 3 more of me/week leaving because of the WiFi problem, W&S lose $2600/year, how much does the IT person lose? read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I've been to Wind & Sea before and always enjoyed the view -- but after this last visit, I'm never going back. The managers were shockingly rude and completely unprofessional. One of them even seemed drunk -- slurring their words, stumbling around, and acting like it was happy hour for them, not the guests. What really disgusted me was how they treated their own team. I saw a manager speak down to employees like they were beneath them -- eye-rolling, barking orders, and making a scene right in the middle of service. It was uncomfortable to witness, and honestly ruined the vibe of the night. The only reason I'm even giving one star is because the busboys, servers and food runners were genuinely kind and respectful. They were working hard under pressure and clearly doing their best in a toxic environment. Shoutout to them -- they deserve way better. This place seriously needs new leadership. Until that happens, I won't be back. Pretty views don't make up for bad management and an unprofessional atmosphere. read more

I will never come to Wind and Sea again. First the restaurant looks outdated and old. Second the Margerita I ordered tasted so sour and overly sweetened (definitely not fresh). My daughter ordered the sliders on the kids menu and the burger buns crumbled in her hands while eating. I ordered the Big eye Poke appetizer and wish I hadn't . It was so bland flavor wise and the two sauces they served with it didn't taste good and were pure salt. Went for a birthday lunch today! Love the views of the harbor and the variety available on the menu. My mom has a shell fish allergy and when we told our server she was very accommodating and told us they grilled her food separately We started with a DELICIOUS cocktail, Wind and Sea Old Fashioned and it was wonderful! They use pineapple liqueur and it adds just the right amount of sweetness. I had the grilled shrimp accompanied with rice pilaf and vegetables. All was properly prepared and the zucchini and squash were cooked perfectly (not mushy at all). Jillian our server was so nice and let us truly enjoy our lunch! Wind & Sea is one of our favorite places to hit when we're in Dana Point. Not only is the location beautiful right on the harbor. It has incredible views; from the bar or the restaurant sitting inside or out. Quite a few servers have been there a very long time. Chris is the one that takes care of us pretty frequently and she's amazing. Very attentive They have an excellent happy hour that's available 4 to 7pm that includes things like calamari, nachos, chicken teriyaki tidbits, wine, beer and they're famous Mai Tai. The Mai Tais are absolutely delicious. Even if you're not a Mai Tai fan it's worth having one as they've sold over 3 million of them to date. As for food, couple of our food favorites are the calamari- it's breaded and cooked to perfection. The grilled artichoke has this amazing sauce and very tender when you eat it. We also get wedge salads. I know it's a basic thing but it's always fresh, crispy delicious and their blue cheese dressing is to die for. read more

Umm, what do I say? There was something missing, otherwise this place would have been an amazing spot. Maybe that something missing was salt, none of their food had any salt or had so less of it that no one in my group could really taste it. Food: I liked the fish and chips, as much as I can moderately like food. The steak sandwich was okay as well. Service: The service is okay, I felt really rushed by our server. Felt like she was ready to get rid of her even before we sat down. In-all: We stopped here on our way ahead in the PCH and while this feels like an okay decision I would not really recommend this place, I'm sure you could find a better spot. I want to start this with a PSA. Please, label your menu correctly. I know the risk of coming to any restaurant that has seafood has a possibility of contamination and I generally announce I have a shellfish allergy to my sever wherever I dine, just in case but NEVER order anything WITH shellfish. I am hoping to improve on a star or two here as I have heard good reviews from local residents and the rest of our visit was very pleasant. However, I had a scary encounter due to a food allergy. Their clam chowder has pieces of shrimp in it that is not advertised or suggested. Which was a unpleasant surprise for a person allergic to shellfish. I am not allergic to mollusks and would have enjoyed this WITHOUT shellfish. I have never had clam chowder with anything other fish besides clams and do not order if advertised as a seafood bisque. Two others at the table also had chosen the clam chowder. One stated there was no shrimp in hers and the other said her's was loaded with large chunks. I had only taken a couple of bites before realizing there was shrimp before taking Benadryl and asking our server if it contained shellfish and then returning the bowl. I heard from my party of 6 that they have an amazing mai tai and another sweeter, pineapple and cranberry drink from their happy hour menu. We started with calamari and I regret not getting the poke and cucumber appetizer they offered. I would love to try it another time. The teriyaki steak tidbits were flavored to perfection. Tender and juicy. The sticky rice was spot on. Two of my party had the pineapple chicken sandwiches and they were giant. They loved them. Nothing but compliments. The pork slider meat was flavorful but Dry. Nothing fancy about this meat of a Hawaiian bun. Calamari Strips. Best version of calamari I've ever had. Still not a big fan but this was not rubbery or extra chewy. The white dipping sauce, could have been a tartar sauce and was a perfect complement. Beautiful setting. Ekk- the food was really terrible. I got the seafood bisque and the seafood salad. Both were extremely questionable. You could tell the soup was old as if it had been sitting there all day and the seafood on the salad was not even close to being fresh. I stopped eating midway because I was nervous of getting food poisoning. Drinks are a rip off... $18 for a Bloody Mary with 1 piece of bacon and 1 piece of shrimp.
