My first visit at the recommendation of a friend. Arrived for an early lunch at 11:15 and there was a line 4 or so deep. Moved quickly enough. By the time I placed my order, there were 15 or so people waiting behind me. It stayed that way till I left. That said, service was friendly. A word of caution: the potato meal options are large. Very large. Lucky for me, I prefer a small lunch so I ordered the basic pulled pork sandwich. It too, is not for the faint of heart. The bread is fresh with a little crunch on the outside and soft, tasty inside. The meat itself could have be a bit more juicy. Or serve a small cup of juice for dipping. Even drier than I like, it had great flavor. As a side note, my buddy did the football sized baked potato with a rib slab on top. And it was stuffed full of meat. A lot. Ordered a two meat plate with ribs and briskets, sides were baked beans and mac--n-cheese. Ribs were 6 stars out of 5 and briskets were moist with the smokiness bark that I will give 7 stars out of 5. The sides were also very tasty, beans were sweet and salty, a balance well executed. MacNCheese was so creamy and cheesy that I'm going to order an extra side to save for tomorrow's lunch. The sauce has a buttery after taste to it and I added some Cayenne and used it to dip the piece of white bread. The meats didn't need to have any BBQ sauce with them and they were delicious on their own. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone within a 50-mile radius from its location. I have been on the hunt for some good BBQ (please note, I am not a native Texan so Texas BBQ is an acquired taste for me) and I finally hit the spot with Winner's BBQ. They're remodeling so please excuse the atmosphere. It's a bit drab on the inside with little decorations. Don't let that deter you! The food is very good. I got the chicken and sausage 2 meat plate with beans and mac and cheese. The meat was juicy and had a very good rub on top. I actually didn't need BBQ sauce for my chicken and only opted to use sauce to my sausage because I'm greedy. The beans were really good! Full of flavor and just the right amount of BBQ sauce and seasonings. Mac and cheese was creamy & cheesy but didn't have an overwhelming flavor. My only small warning is it's very smokey inside. This is some good bbq. I normally get the same thing every time and i always have high hopes of posting pictures but by the time i think about it I've already dived into the food! I normally get the loaded potato with 1 meat and thst meat is normally their ribs. I absolutely love the rub on these ribs I let my friend try one she said yum this doesn't even need bbq sauce i was like i know right. A must get which I will say is hit or miss depending upon when you go is their Mac and cheese. While they aren't top of the line Texas monthly top 50 good ; Winners is Good BBQ w little to NO line which is huge in my book because who wants to wait in a long line sometimes 2 , 3 , 4 hours just to eat BBQ. This place is a Winner, no pun intended! This is an unassuming place in an area of Plano that time has almost forgotten. I used gps to find it and still almost missed it! But it is worth the drive and the trouble to find it, trust me... When you first walk in, you will be hit in the face with that nice smokey smell that seems to be a signature for all great barbecue places. The other thing you can't help but notice is the music, let's just say this place not only has R&B, but it also has soul! But what will really have you remembering this place is the food itself, which is probably some of the best barbecue in the Dallas area. The brisket, I will say is without a doubt the best I have had around town. I had been advised to try their Baked Potato, which comes with your choice of toppings and meats. I got mine with Butter, Sour Cream, Cheese, Chopped Brisket, and Ribs. The serving was generous and more than I could eat, and I even shared a portion of it and still had some leftover to bring home to my dogs. Meh. I'm confused about this place. There is one person working the counter that takes your order and then goes to the back and gives it to the folks who prepare your food. This process is so slow and inefficient. Food: I got the three meat plate. Moist brisket was the best of the three but didn't have too much flavor. Hot link was okay, again, nothing too special. My experience at Winners BBQ. I visited this establishment several years ago and it was pretty good. I ordered the MVP Potato and it was pretty good. My second visit on Sunday 08/30/20 was not the same. I was in the area and decided I would stop by. I really should've kept driving by. I ordered the MVP Potato, Sausage, and dark chicken topped with cheese and sour cream. This is not worth $15.00. I am highly disappointed. I'm not sure if it's new management or what but ugh. The chicken was smoked but dry and not seasoned. The potato was dry tasteless. The two stars are because of the sausage which was the best thing on the plate. The sausage was spicy and well prepared. The sour cream and cheese were nonexistent. I had to add my own at home and I shouldn't have to do this after spending $15.00 on a potato. I can make this better at home :-) I've had much better "MVP Potato's" that were much more hearty and tasty at Fred's BBQ in Irving and TD's in Dallas. The drive is a bit much but it's worth it. Thought I'd try this place since it had good reviews, and I think it was ok. Ordered a bit of everything as I tend to do when trying new places. Got a brisket sandwich, chicken quarter, Mac and cheese and cole slaw. The coleslaw was good, it was fresh and crisp and had a mild good taste. and the Mac and cheese had about a gallon of cheese in it which I love, and it had some seasoning in it like red pepper flakes that made it mildly spicy. Reminded me of the macaroni and cheese they serve in Tennessee. The brisket sandwich wasn't bad at all for the price of $8. The meat was nice and tender, had a good amount of fat on it, and the seasoning they used was pretty good! The problem was it didn't have a deep beefy taste to it, nor did it not seem very smoky. It tasted more like a brisket you would get at like a state fair or amusement park, rather then some true Texas bbq. I don't think they smoke it as long as they should. Either way like I said it was tender enough and a decent value for how much they give you. The chicken quarter had the opposite problem. It was also very tender, and the seasoning was also delicious (their seasoning is kind of sweet and salty) but it tasted over smoked. Not even over smoked, it tasted like lighter fluid. I know it's a sin to use bbq sauce, but I had to use it on the chicken. Their bbq sauce by the way is very good! So all in all it's just ok. I've had worst bbq, but I have had way better bbq. Hubby and I ventured out today (Tuesday/12:15pm) to try Winners BBQ after seeing countless recommendations on Facebook (the pics had me drooling). We arrived at a strip mall after a 20 min drive. Went inside and immediately received the vibe of an old school bbq joint with R&B tunes playing in the background. We stood in line for 10 mins before placing our order. The hubby ordered the Baked Potato with 5 meats (can't remember the name) and I had the sandwich/2sides/drink lunch combo...selected the chopped beef, mac and cheese and baked beans. The food came out and we were ready to dive in. I started with the sides, the mac and cheese was cheesy but with little flavor. The baked beans were similar to Bush's baked beans you can buy at any grocery store. The chopped beef sandwich was really good but I could do without the seasoning on top of the bun. I also tasted the pulled pork (meh), the sausage (yummy), the rib (could cook a bit longer...very tough), and the chicken (kinda dry) on the baked potato. This is serious barbecue! Definitely the best I've had in Dallas, a place known for good barbecue. The dry-rub ribs were delicious. Perfectly seasoned so I didn't even need any sauce on it. The sliced brisket was moist and oh so good. The flavor was great and again, didn't even need barbecue sauce. We also had the chopped beef baked potato, green beans and Mac n cheese. All were great. Winner is a typical BBQ place but not quiet as good as a Hutchins or Lockhart's. My pulled pork while good in combination with the sauce, was a bit dry and my brisket was mostly fat. Service was bare bones with a single person working the cash register and being made to line up and approach one at a time felt a little like grade school cafeteria. This is best described as a backyard barbecue experience. It's like walking into someone's house and eating at their Sunday afternoon barbecue cookout. The Good: It's not corporate so you have a feel of novelty eating here. Like you know you're not likely to find another place on earth that will be like this place. The amount of meat you get here is pretty good. I got the three meat plate with greens and potato salad. The greens were pretty ok. Best part of the meal but it's not anywhere as good as Sweet Georgia Brown Barbecue in south Dallas. The Bad: It's eating at your friend's house and he's not a good pit master. This is what I mean. 1.) Brisket - I got the moist cut but the meat was grainy and dry so that when you bite into it the brisket tastes like stringy sand. It was also cut in big fat one inch thick cuts with some portions of it as long as two inches. Great if it was actually moist and tender. Not so good when it's dry and chewy. The bark was also very hard - hard as beef jerky. See picture. 2.) Ribs - they were baby backs so that was good. But they were also dry. Did not fall off the bone and the way they were cut the bones were broken so that I had to pick bones out of my teeth every other bite. 3.) Sausage - the hot links were not cut all the way through so each slice was still connected by the casing. Also the quality was not all that good. Meat was very mushy and had very little texture to it. Was like eating an encase mashed potato sausage. 4.) Potato Salad - it was ok. Barely better than Tom Thumb potato salad. 5.) BBQ Sauce - too thick with molasses. All I can taste was he sweet dark hint of molasses. Overly sweet without any memorable flavors of spices. In short, this is like eating at a friends house and he can't cook, can't cut the meat right and there's nothing else to really eat but you're forced to eat because you're hungry. read more

Oh the brisket: ordered a half pound of sliced brisket and it was the way darn smoked meat that UBSE had in a very long time. They nailed it. Hope they do that all the time here. Also got the ribs: very meaty. Very. They are the pull off the bone Arte (as opposed to fall off the bone) should that matter to you. The Mac-n-Cheese was good: not too cheesy. The food is delicious and the portion sizes are huge. The baked potatoes are perfectly cooked and about the size of my head! We thoroughly enjoyed the brisket and sausage and loved the tang of the bbq sauce. The only part we didn't enjoy was the woman at the register. I wouldn't go so far to say she was rude, but she definitely wasn't polite either. She was nice when she came around to check on customers, so perhaps she doesn't know how she comes across. Walking into this place was like an episode of American Horror Story. It was BEYOND sketch. The restaurant is about 40,000 square ft---a pretty big size and it's full of tables. I went on a Saturday early evening and there were 3 people inside. Was this the twilight zone? Or is the food really that bad? We ordered brisket, sausage, and pulled pork. The sausage was surprisingly pretty good. I doubt they made it in house but the spices worked perfectly. The brisket was tender. Flavorful? Negative. And that darn pulled pork was a trainwreck. It had more fat than FATS DOMINO....har har har. Anyways, this place didn't give me "a party in the mouth" type feeling, and the ambiance was a little too Alfred Hitchcock-ish for me. This place is legit!! Went today for lunch. Huge portions and very reasonably priced. I got a two meat plate with brisket and ribs and 2 sides and a drink and that costs $14. A steal! Both the brisket and ribs were great. Great bark on the brisket and great seasoning on the ribs. The mac n cheese was solid. If I had to find any negatives (and they weren't really a big deal at all) it would be that they didn't have unsweetened tea and I smelled like meat the rest of the day :) I will certainly be back soon.
