I've had this food a couple times, and both times I have loved it. I get the "One Meat Plate" with pulled pork, mac n cheese, and coleslaw. The pulled pork is super tender and flavorful. The BBQ sauce is delicious, but I do wish there were more of it. Unlike some reviewers here, I actually like the mac n cheese. It's not super cheesy, that's true. It's a bit "lighter" than I'd probably get in actual Texas. But because the meat is so filling, I actually appreciate the mac the way it is. Also, I think it has paprika, which is a nice addition. I love the coleslaw, too. It's also on the lighter side, and is another good balance to the meat. I always have enough meat (but not sides) for leftovers the next day. I came out to first Friday in Venice for my first time, and was overwhelmed with the selection of food trucks available. I also happened to be very hungry and didn't want to stress over making a decision. Since I'm a fan of bbq in general, I explained my situation to the worker here and asked if I'd be disappointed or have my life changed for the better. He said some people call it life-changing but noted that everyone's makes their own choice. he then added "however, I do smoke the brisket myself overnight." I appreciated hi humbleness (or lack of eagerness to overpromise), combined with the small hint of passion about his craft. I ordered the brisket sandwich, and added the single rib on the side for three dollars, which I thought was a pretty great bonus deal. I enjoyed both. Best BBQ food truck experience we've had in terms of value and tastiness. Mind you, we just got back from KC so that's where our BBQ allegiances lie. So this isn't a review of City vs State qualities of BBQ. The chicken sandwich was delicious. Breast meat was moist, seasoned well with just the right amount of sauce. The link was on point. With the right amount of snap, a just-right blend of spice and the sauce complemented the meat. Mac and cheese isn't our kind of M&C, so we'll pass next time. I've got good and bad things to say about this truck. I bought food there for my grandson and myself during the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books this last Sunday. My grandson was staying with me for a year and he normally lives in Texas, where barbecue is king. He saw Mac and Meat and couldn't wait. I ordered the Chicken and Slaw, which didn't have a price listed, two lemonades, and cornbread for two. The food was good and the lemonades cool and refreshing. We loved our lunch. Good job! Before that, however, after I ordered, the man at the window said that I owed $98 dollars. I thought I heard him incorrectly so I asked him to repeat it. Yep, $98 for lunch (Mac & cheese??) If I didn't have my grandson beside me salivating I would have canceled my order. Thankfully I had a hundred dollars available. That money was supposed to be for lunch and a book or two. I understand that it takes a lot of money to run a restaurant. I also understand that's people are still reeling from Covid, loss of work, and an epidemic the size of which we haven't seen since 1918. That price was unexpected to say the least. If you have the money to spend, it is a pretty great lunch. If not, better go someplace cheaper. I got the Mac & Meat and it was a bit disappointing for the price. It cost $15.00 which is pretty normal for truck food Downtown LA but the worker was so nice I gave a $2 tip. Ultimately, I was just expecting MORE in flavor and a better balance between the 2 MAC N MEAT. Should be called Mostly MAC some Meat... He showed me the large tray and it's over-exaggerated by placing a smaller tray into a bigger one to make it seem more fuller. It's about 75% MAC and 25% MEAT. The meat is basically just layered on top with their BBQ sauce. The meat ALONE is not all that tasty and somewhat dry. The MAC was very thick and taste was just OKAY. "Oh no", I thought, when my food was handed to me. I'd gotten the brisket plate (or platter or whatever), which comes with two sides. What was handed to me was your standard-issue three-space styrofoam clamshell -- with two sides in plastic containers stacked on top. The whole thing was HEAVY, and given my love of Texas barbeque, I was certain I was about to stuff myself beyond recognition. I needn't have worried. The meat was awful. And BTW I've had real authentic Texas BBQ in real authentic Texas more times than I can count, I know the deal. This meat was probably 30% fat, the rest sinewy and overcooked -- not smoker overcooked but "just been sitting in a steam pan for the last 6 hours and had my texture ruined and lost any tenderness I may have had" overcooked. Good meat isn't supposed to have a green reflection in the sunlight; this stuff did. Noteworthy that the menu offers brisket both regular and chopped. I hadn't asked for the chopped, and hadn't been asked if I wanted it, but I was served chopped meat anyway. It was obvious why -- to disguise the disgusting quality of the beef. In contrast, the side of pinto beans was actually really tasty -- they had their own flavor (not just beans in a BBQ-ish sauce, which a lot of places do) and tasting -- well, bean-y. On the other hand, the mac & cheese (which they find it appropriate to charge a $1 premium for) fell completely flat. While I applaud that they don't think it necessary to add bacon or whatever to good ol' mac & cheese, they've decided they don't need to add any flavor or seasoning as well. We hit up this truck outside the opening for the new Discovery Cube up in the valley, and the whole experience of the meal was quite poor. This was a huge event with tons of people at it, but the truck operators appeared completely overmatched and unprepared for the volume. Window server was curt, unfriendly, and generally carried himself like someone who didn't want to be there, and things went downhill from there. Order took 20-25 minutes to come out despite just being two sandwiches and a couple sides, and there were only four orders ahead of ours. Beef brisket sandwich was average at best. Good texture to the meat but very little flavor beyond a mild kick of black pepper. Pulled pork was dry and similarly lacking in built-in flavor. It's tough to stew pork for hours on end and not generate some flavor by accident, but they figured out how to do it. House BBQ sauce was solid if unspectacular, with a good blend of sweetness and tang. That was a welcome development given the need for it in ample dosage on the meats. Bread on both sandwiches appeared to just be your basic, run-of-the-mill burger bun out of a package. The mac and cheese was okay, nothing particularly noteworthy about it. Baked beans, on the other hand, were a train wreck. The dish tasted like they microwaved some raw beans just enough to soften them up enough to eat and then shook them around in a bowl of black pepper. I like black pepper a lot, but the overwhelming concentration of it in this concoction was disgusting. Overall the execution from top to bottom was quite poor, and the meal didn't particularly flash any untapped potential for improvement in a future visit. Thank god! My wife and I have been honeymooning for 3 days now. We landed ourselves in Long Beach, CA. By this point in our trip we were craving a good texas meal. Our prayers were answered in the best way at the Residence Inn downtown Longbeach. On the last night we were staying, we stumbled upon Wise BBQ Truck. The truck advertised authenticate Texas BBQ and we were not disappointed. We got the tri-tip, brisket and mac&cheese. The tri-tip was amazing, very well done. The brisket was simple seasoned greatness. After taking a bite of it I said, in front of many people, "whew! Slap me naked." The mac&cheese however, was not my favorite. Not because of the taste, but because I prefer a cheese sauce over shredded or multi-cheese style. The main and most important difference is this meat is smoked to absolute perfection and the BBQ sauce has a true Texas taste. I'm not sure what California does to their meat, but I'm not sure I enjoy it. All in all this place brings true, delicious and authenticate Texas BBQ to the west coast. I see why this place has lines everywhere they go. Truly the best tasting BBQ I've ever had. As a Texan I'm proud and as a Texan visiting California, it makes me even happier! I purchased the pulled pork sandwich and it was not only delicious, but incredibly filling! It was juicy, filled with tons of meat, spiced the way I like it and it had the right amount of kick. When I look for barbecue, I usually go for smoked pulled pork or brisket. That's what barbecue is, right?!
