They have also updated cup sizes and portions where you are getting value for the amount of food or beverage you are receiving. The bad.... The dinner they are still working out. The chicharrón are a solid item off the dinner menu if I had to choose just one. The bar in the back has a wonderful authentic Mexican singer on Thursdays. The cocktail menu has also been updated to include so pretty good cocktails. I really like the Teporocho and Baja Sour which is a twist on the classic pisco sour. Went there today around 4:45 PM. The menu listed margaritas at $10 during happy hour (4 - 7 PM). We ordered margaritas (no special instructions) and when the bill came they were $14 (shown as $10 for the margarita and $4.00 additional for the alcohol). I have never seen this sleazy and deceptive practice anywhere else. We did not eat, but it seemed to me that the entree prices (some in neighborhood of $40) were grossly out of line with the neighborhood, atmosphere and what can only be described as glacial and insouciant service. Add in the hassle and expense of paid parking on the street and I will definitely not be back. I would rate the margaritas about a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. read more

We ordered the conchas and they never came... it was clear the waiter forgot. 20 min later I had to flag someone down and reorder them, they weren't even that busy yet, that's the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. Note: This review is only for Ayahausca Cantina I discovered Ayahuasca Cantina when it first opened and fell in love with the menu, ambiance, drinks, etc. I love the first menu that allowed you to combine 2-3 dishes for a certain price. The menu featured harder-to-find Mexican dishes that were elevated and delicious. The cocktail menu was also great. It featured sophisticated cocktails featuring a lot of tequila and mezcal-based drinks. The menu combined with the dimly lit room decorated in Mexican art gave Ayahuasca a very cool, speakeasy vibe. Overall, the theme and vibe of the place are a 10/10. Fast forward, 1-2 years later, the menu has completely changed, including their happy hour menu. Their happy hour menu now has a different selection of cocktails and lasts until 7 pm (which is fantastic). Their food menu, on the other hand, is more limited and rotates, featuring cuisines from different regions in Mexico, which is pretty cool. However, I noticed that one of their signature dishes, the Tuetano, increased in price to $49, which is just absurd. I am pretty sure that this dish has increased in price more than gas prices and inflation combined! This dish features two bone marrow and a few corn tortillas, so I am not sure how (or why) this dish now costs as much as a 6oz steak at Ruth's Chris. The math ain't mathing here. Anyways, super disappointed in this ridiculous price surge and overall higher food prices that feel unjustified. It'll probably be a while before I return. read more

I'm not sure how to describe the horchata but if I could it would be with one word. Mexico! It tastes like my grandmother's recipe so fresh!! I like my coffee sweeter so I did not put the entire espresso in my horchata. The Mexican hot chocolate tastes authentic as well. The cafe has a super cute Aztec aesthetic and their mugs are unique. The lighting is dim, warm, and romantic; the wall art and decor is earthy; and the menu is simple. I ordered a cinnamon tea that was steeped with loose leaf cinnamon sticks/ tea leaves, and they gave me the pot of tea along with a unique clay mug that had a face engraved in it to enjoy my tea at my leisure along with a side of honey; the tea was absolutely delicious, and although it was pricey (roughly $5.50), I would order it again in a heartbeat. I also had a chance to look in the back where they had a secret bar that had a 1920s jazz theme to it; the whole experience in general was delightful. If you're in the area, check this place out. Want to start off by saying that the chai here is amazing !!! I will definitely be coming back just for the chai! I was not too excited about the omelette but I decided to try it out especially with the chorizo and it was okay. I did not like that there was salad on the side I would have preferred potatoes. I guess for me it was just weird to eat eggs with salad for breakfast. The salad to me also had like a sour taste and I did not like it. terrible customer service from foh... as someone who works in the service industry it was so insane seeing how rude staff could be considering that this restaurant is supposed to be a refreshing concept on jefferson. i wish i could remember our servers name, she was the only nice and accommodating one. besides that, food proportions are tiny and food is not anything to boast about. drinks were all from what i tried super bitter and not very enjoyable. considering how busy this restaurant gets it would make sense to be able to make reservations which made wanting to dine here for my birthday very difficult. we called the day prior to see if they could accommodate a large party in which they said we would have to come around 9:30/10 for a table. 2 of my family members came around 9am to put our names down they said they could but didn't give a wait time and said our whole party had to be there in which the rest of us weren't able to arrive until about 10:30 so it was pointless to have them come and put a name down. they had us waiting at the front which was a big party of 10 for about 20 minutes. i wasn't aware that my aunt had already told them she really wanted to be inside since it was chilly that day so they came to me asking if it was okay that we sat outside and i said okay whatever can get us seated faster. right after being seated at 3 extremely small tables put together my aunt had asked if the table inside was still available because that's what they said we were waiting for when then the hostess or manager said no and since we chose outside that it'll be another 45 minutes for inside seating.. they were really quick to throw the blame on us. before being seated they brought to our attention that bringing our cake that my mother took 2 days to make herself would be an extra $5 per person which would total to $50. it was a bit over the top but we were just like yea okay that's fine. i didn't know if her telling us that fee would maybe try and change our minds but we were later on told that that fee was only for cutting the cake and that we would be charged only $10 for spoons and forks since my mom would obviously be the only one cutting the cake she made. after ordering very quickly and making sure we would be able to help our server out by flipping the table, before food was handed out we were interrupted by sarai, a food runner who yelled "family, listen up" in a rude tone in which we all kind of looked at each other like did she say that? for a restaurant charging extra fees and auto grat in which we're guaranteed to tip well you would expect great service with it... we've all worked in the service industry before and this place was a let down honestly and you'd think they'd be a little more organized with seat numbers or at least know which item is going to which table. i'll save my time next time making reservations elsewhere. read more

This is easily in the top tier of Dallas' brunch scene. From the vibes of the interior, friendly staff, to the food itself, it's a no brainer to come here (especially from the chaos that is the bishop arts district on the weekend.) The Horchata is divine! All the ingredients felt harmonized together. Usually, other places taste as if all the ingredients are unmixed somehow. But not this one! I actually ordered two servings of it because I liked it so much. Although the default is to serve it with coffee, I like that they could serve just the horchata alone. The Quinoa ancient grain pancakes are what I wish all pancakes could aspire to be. Hearty, whole grains while still feeling fluffy and tasting the right amount of sweet. The fruit they serve with it is fresh and in season. They give you a reasonably sized pancake and not the size of a dinner plate. The Omlette with chorizo is a great choice for the classic breakfast item. The chorizo is not overly greasy and I can taste the quality of the pork. The flauntas are phenomenal! Juicy meat with just the right amount of grease that you can taste but doesn't overwhelm. The cocktails are on a whole other level. I guarantee you some of the stuff they are serving here will not only be stuff you won't find anywhere in DFW, but I'd argue most of America. The mixologist truly flexes his creativity and geographical knowledge of the ingredients he chooses, whether its pulque or their tepache inspired drinks. read more
