Visited this place for the first time yesterday. Upon arrival they've done a nice job with the decor and it has an inviting feeling to it. We were greeted by girl who was young....like 10ish young. She was very friendly and I loved to see the family (I think) putting the youth to work! Free chips and salsa showed up right away. A key to any Mexican food restaurant in my opinion. That's when I had my first conundrum. The salsa had an ingredient I couldn't put my finger on. Let's just say it was an ingredient I wasn't used to tasting in a salsa. So I called the server over and asked if she has ever heard that before...she answered with a resounding YES...so once confirmed I asked her to ask the cooks if it was one of my guesses: Star Anise, Clove, or Chinese 5 spice. She agreed to go ask...and came back with "they won't tell me, I've tried to ask them before". Now let me just say this...I am all for "protecting" family secrets and recipes that have been passed down through the ages...however in this day and age, with allergies the way they are, sharing one ingredient that someone calls out won't ruin your family legacy. I'm not allergic to anything so I just smiled and was cordial and continued eating... When it came time to order my wife got the 2 tacos with double rice (versus rice and beans) and I got the "gollo bowl" which was green chili pork over pinto beans...hers was over $10 a believe so I expected to see massive tacos...mine was $8 so I knew this should be a "barely" full type of portion. Interestingly, it was the exact opposite. The taco plate was underwhelming at best and the gollo bowl was a meal. The tacos are hard shell fried with shredded beef inside. For just having been friend I would have expected some succulent type meat after she bit in...it was not. Dry, but in her words had decent flavor. Very flat look and not much meat. Next the rice. Have to mail the rice if the tacos are underwhelming. Didn't happen. Rice was crunchy...as if it were older rice or undercooked. Lacked the overall "smack" I look for in a good, moist, Mexican rice (I tried hers). Gollo Bowl was very good. Loved the beans, good chunks of the green chili pork, a lot of flavor to the bowl and I was full after eating it. Little cheese topped it off...very nice bowl for $8. That leads to the bill and perhaps my largest pet peeve that exists today in restaurants, gas stations, etc...the "cash" price and the "credit" price. We were charged an extra $1.32 for using a credit card. Being around the restaurant becomes for 25 years my advice (not that they are asking or care) is to just raise your prices 2.5% and don't nickel and dime me for extra line items. Bake it in. At $5 for an import beer and over $10 for a 2 taco plate you already have room in your prices for the credit card charges. People carry less and less cash, service charging the majority of your customers is out. Full service, easy to business with, great value...is IN! 3 stars because the staff was VERY friendly and the gollo bowl was good! read more

First time here. Very good food. To me the Miami location is the best. The Gilbert location is better than the Tempe location. Had the Beef enchilada, taco and Tamale. The chips are excellent. Had the bean dip that was a happy hour special and it was great for the table to share. The combinations are the best way to get a variety of items at a reasonable price. read more

Soooo I will begin by mentioning we have been going to this location for a long time and always had good service and food. However, today we actually had to walk out without even ordering due to the poor service from our server. We arrived to an empty establishment, so we figured it would be another great experience. Wrong, our young server decided her friend/coworker who came in was much more exciting and the tables sat after us were more important than my husband and I were. She definitely met the needs of the other table right away and we were forgotten (in an empty restaurant). After watching that table get served drinks, appetizer, order taken and chips/salsa given we realized it was time to leave. I went to the server and mentioned my concerns and she was rude and made excuses rather than apologizing for her poor service. It's unfortunate as we genuinely love the food here and it looks so we will need to stop going for a while until they decide to train the servers with better customer service. read more

We were excited to see a new Mexican food restaurant opened right behind our house and gave it a try. What an awful experience all around. We will not return. We got a table fairly quickly but once we sat down time stood still. We eventually got some chips and salsa, then ordered drinks and our meals. After we finished the chips and salsa it sure would have been nice to get our water and cola we had ordered an eternity ago. The drinks finally arrived. Yay. We were asked if we wanted some more chips and was brought out. We went through that bowl as well. By now customers that arrived much after us were being served so we inquired on our order. My enchilada platter arrived shortly after the inquiry. I let it sit and wait for the wife's meal to arrive. It sat for about 5 minutes until her taco/enchilada combo arrived. Finally able to dig in and bleh... Total disappointment. I was born and raised in Arizona and I'm not picky but I have had better enchiladas while visiting in freakin' Boston, Mass than this place behind my house. There is plenty of great Mexican food in this neighborhood so we'll continue to hit the places we like. Casa Reynoso is: Extremely SLOW service, overpriced, and the food is not so good. I suspect this place will fold. I hope the next restaurant at this address is a chili dog shop! read more

I used to go to a Mexican restaurant in Thatcher, AZ called La Casita when I lived there and it's my favorite Mexican food so when I was told that XJ's is run by the same family I was really excited and knew I had to try it. I found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to try it. I found the food to be excellent, as well as excellent service. I had the enchilada and relleno plate with beans and rice. Really a great choice. I especially liked the chips and salsa - the salsa tasted like it contains a hint of cinnamon, which reminds me of many restaurants I used to eat at in El Paso. Very disappointed in XJ's Casa Reynoso. Looking forward to a Gilbert location. It does not live up to the family's tradition at all! The sauces are very bland and tasteless, the servings are smaller, the salsa is nothing. This is Arizona, not Utah. We like spicy traditional mexican food! No music, generic plain white walls and a bar in the only room they have is so close to the tables, you can't even move your chair. It looks like they could vacate the space tomorrow. The prices are higher and they give you less, lower quality. But worst of all, they tell you the prices are one thing on the menu and then CHARGE YOU AND EXTRA 3.5% FOR USING YOUR CREDIT CARD ON TOP! AND THEY DON'T TELL YOU TILL THE BILL COMES. THEY SHOW YOU TWO DIFFERENT RECEIPTS! AND HAVE TO EXPLAIN IT TO YOU IF YOU CATCH IT. We have been going to the Casa De Reynoso for years. I heard about this place, so I stopped in last Saturday with my family for a late lunch. First, I want to say it's very clean and nicely decorated inside. They have a big TV on the wall with sports for those who want to keep their eye on a game while having a nice meal. What about the food though? The chips and salsa were classic, with a flavorful but not spicy salsa. I ordered a machaca burrito enchilada style and a Chile relleno. The machaca was lean and spiced well, but I did wish there were more onions and bell peppers in the burrito. This is a personal preference and what I'm used to, but the meat was flavored well. The red enchilada sauce was flavorful as well, and you can tell they make everything in house. The Chile relleno was tasty as well, but did not come with the traditional sauce on top. Still, not a deal breaker. My mother got the green tamale, which was basically masa and corn bits and covered in green sauce. It was simple but flavorful, with the sauce being similar to a molcajete. One of my daughters got a bean burrito, enchilada style with red and green sauces. We are big on refried beans in this family, so that is always a true test for us at a Mexican restaurant. We were not disappointed. One last touch that I think is very important, is that the food and the plates were HOT. I like my food hot, so this was a bonus for me. Nothing worse than a lukewarm burrito. Needless to say, we enjoyed our food and will be going back to try more. read more

It's our first trip for a newly opened spot. The food was definitely not disappointing. The menu is very beef based, and not being able to eat beef, it took a bit to be able to decide on what to try. They did swap a beef taco for chicken. It was very good. The cheese enchiladas were good. I love that they have some onion in them and they are cooked long enough that the tortillas were cooked and not chewy or raw like so many places. The rice was good and flavorful. Beans were a bit generic and nothing special. Can't wait to go back and try the green chili. read more

Not a wide variety of selections. I saw reviews on here about Signature dishes. What signature dishes? I saw no entrees on the menu that stood out from others. I wanted carne asada but they were out. So I thought about fajitas but they were not on the menu. So I settled for the #7 for $11. Nothing special. Bland. Chile Relleno was served plain, no sauce. Taco was deep fried and greasy. Not worth the $11. Personally, I wouldn't return here because I didn't like the limited menu or the taste of the food. But if you are not selective and like only the traditional common tacos, enchiladas, and burros this restaurant may suffice your appetite. read more

Casa on Mill has been our favorite Mexican restaurant for many years. Living in Gilbert, we were happy to see a new location. There were 3 of us and we ordered our standard Casa meals. Everything was excellent. The taco was seen as not AS good but still considered very good. Gollo burro and cheese enchiladas were delicious and rice and beans....so good.
