Update since my first review of Xoi Xinh back in 2024... Sure enough, prices have gone up - which is understandable considering the economy - but you'd think that quality should remain the same or get better, right? Sadly, that wasn't the case for my visit today. Xoi Xinh is still to-go only, operating out of CIR Lounge's kitchen during the morning/early afternoon when the lounge is closed. There used to be outdoor seating, but I think they did away with that too, since my last few visits. You order either at the walk-up booth, phone-in, or online via their website. There is some new wall and storefront decor - to help you figure out where they are. I ordered a Xoi Man (savory pate sticky rice), as well as Xoi Kho Quet (pork belly sticky rice). Pickup time was set for 845am - I came a little closer to 9am since I was shopping at the Amazon Fresh in the same strip mall. There was still about a 10 minute wait when I went to pick up my food. The food still comes in the sturdy, microwaveable bowl that I mentioned in my previous review - however - they don't have the giant black plastic spoon anymore that used to come with each bowl. While the Xoi Man had the same type of toppings - sliced pork meatloaf, quail eggs, chinese sausage, pork floss - I noticed a smaller amount of pate. The rice was more dry, rather than moist or sticky. The portion size is decent. The Xoi Kho Quet was a new order for me - I'm a fan of the Vietnamese style of Trung Kho - which is pork belly with eggs - so I was modeling my expectation of this dish after that. Sadly, there wasn't even quail eggs in this dish. The pork belly looked and tasted old - as in, cooked yesterday - instead of made fresh same day. It was dry/hard to chew, rather than juicy and tender. There was a lot of pork belly, but that doesn't cut it for the poor quality of the meat. Like my Xoi Man, the "sticky rice" was also more dry than anything else. Maybe I came on an off day? But yea, disappointed that a spot I raved about to everyone I knew sorta took a nosedive on quality. As I mentioned, I don't mind paying higher - businesses have to keep up with inflation - but I expect the quality to stay the same or better, not get worse. I was in the plaza getting my nails done at Tracy Nail Spa and was craving something quick for the road before work. I saw that this location was near me when looking for food suggestion on Yelp, and decided to give it a try. There was just a small sign in the corner, and it could easily be missed. There is only a podium outside, so I approached it and was not greeted for at least 5 minutes. I was about to call the number posted, when someone came out and asked me what I wanted to order. I went for the Xoi Manh with the different types of meat and pate. I felt like for $12 it was not worth the price. I feel like you can get something of the same quality at other places like Banh Mi Cali or Che Hien Kanh. Those are usually my go tos and they are not far from this spot. Xôi Xinh is a little kiosk stand located in a plaza in Fountain Valley. You can order ahead online and pick up or order at the stand. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. I ordered the 2 Xôi Mặn for my family to share. We waited for about 10 minutes for the xôi and it came out steaming warm. The xôi was so good! Moist and go so well with the pate! They give you a lot of topping with Chinese sausage, chả, quail eggs and pork floss! The one thing they could improve on would be making a bit more flavorful, as it tasted a little bland. This pop-up kitchen specializes one thing, and that is sticky rice served in different vietnamese ways. It is strictly takeout, and the menu is limited, and so is the operating hours. All the foods are prepped in the CIR lounge kitchen, and then brought out to the front door. It is best to order by phone ahead. Then the food is ready when you arrived. Otherwise, you'll be standing around in the parking lot waiting for your order, which is not a long wait. As for the food, I would say all the adds are pretty decent, such as the meats and veggies. However, being that the name is "Xôi Xinh" which means nice/pleasant sticky rice... I would expect that the sticky rice would be exceptional, and instead, it is really just average, or even under par. Based on recommendations from others, I decided to try this takeout place located near Pho Cali on the corner of Brookhurst and Talbert. I wasn't going to order their best seller, Xoi Man Pate, because I typically do not like pate, but the hostess said I can substitute for extra ham (cha lua) or sausage (lap xuong). Upon arrival, there's a small stand outside the door of CIR lounge. No one was there and I had to wait...I tried going inside the restaurant but it was pitch dark. A young female finally came out and confirmed my order but later came back out to tell me they were out of ha gow and said I'd be refunded-haven't seen the refund yet. The food was packed nicely in a bag but there's no utensils so if you're planning to eat in the car...good luck...be prepare to have your own utensils. The concept is to pick up and go - no tables to sit or even a place to wait for your order. The "sticky" rice was more just plain white rice with lots of topping. The chicken and pork belly were so dry and chewy;I was expecting it to be more flavorful and tender. Egg rolls say it's "shrimp and crab and pork" but there's literally no shrimp or crab, it's simply just pork and taro/carrots. I really love this place for selling all kinds of different xoi. Every time I come back to California, I always get extra to bring it home. This week, they feature a new xoi on their website which is xoi thit nuong cha mo (bbq pork and juicy pork patty). I was really excited since I haven't seen this type before so I bought it. It was $12 plus taxes so it was a little more than the original xoi. I wasn't really kind because I think the extra was for the pork. Upon opening it, the sauce from the pork patty spilled everywhere. However, that is not the case because the thing I want to point out is the pork that they use in the xoi which is not the same thing they advertised on their pictures. I tried their xôi mặn, xôi xéo thịt kho, and sữa bắp. I can barely taste any corn in it, almost like the water they cook the corn in it. I can see why xôi mặn is their best seller. It was delicious and scratched the itch. The sticky rice for xôi xéo is too dry, a bit raw in my opinion. Chả lụa, thịt kho, and everything else is good.
