The Yard House in Long Beach's Shoreline Village has a lot going for it, incomparable views of the water that rival Parker's Lighthouse, a solid modern menu crammed full of libations and well thought out entrees and a mostly young, somewhat touristy crowd that keeps the vibe pulsing steadily. If not for a handful of service miscues, I'd gladly present YH with a coveted 5-star rating. But between no silverware or napkins 20 minutes into our meal (and a full ten minutes AFTER our sides arrived!) and having to ask multiple times for the staff to sing "Happy Birthday" to my mother in law, it fell just shy. The food was excellent. All three girls ordered salads with chicken, my eldest went for Poke Nachos (he TELLS me it was great though I refuse to try it) and my youngest went for the YH's spin off of the very pizza that California Pizza Kitchen rose to fame- BBQ Chicken. Yours truly? Relished their bone-in Rib-Eye, cooked medium rare, with a small side of parmesan mashed potatoes. Our server Henry was, despite the restaurant thronged with standing room only crowds on a date night/SAT evening, was full of good humor and a witty remark or two. Pro tip: They do not accept reservations, so come prepared for a wait of up to an hour, especially on the weekend. Unexpected bargain? I love the Yard House. It's around the corner from my house so I can ride my scooter there and don't have to lose parking to go and enjoy some food. The drinks are delicious. The food is delicious. The options are plentiful and the atmosphere is upbeat. The restaurant is not always the cleanest in the entryway, but where you sit down to dine is always well kept.The bar is very active and the bartenders make excellent drinks. March 2023 located in the shoreline shopping center (private parking). The lot seems to get filled faster during lunch/dinner times. The shopping center does charge for parking with/without validation. I opted to order online and pick it up in person. The service over the phone was more pleasant than the service I received in person. I came in to pick up my order thinking it would be a quick in and out but ended up waiting 20+ minutes. the hostess was busy seating guests so they didn't rush to get my order. Unfortunately, the order was incorrect but since I don't live close to the restaurant I wasn't able to get the order corrected. Good selection of beers, but several were out of stock. I went on a Saturday evening and sat at the bar and it was crazy crowded. There was not enough bar staff to adequately address customers needs. I had to wait 30 minutes to be served. My hamburger was good, but was served without any utensils or condiments, and I wasn't able to get those until I was almost done with my meal. This really struck me as a management problem since they did not have enough people to do the work given the crowd that were there to either have dinner or just sit at the bar. It's a great location with nice views of the harbor, but given my experience, not worth the effort since there are other alternatives that are far more well managed. read more

Finally came to Yard House to try it out for my sister's birthday! My family is pretty picky with their food but they loved everything. My dad ordered the maui pineapple chicken (not pictured), I didn't try it but he said it was more on the salty side. That was the only bad comment I received from my family. My sister and mom ordered the lobster garlic noodles and it was so good, they serve meaty lobster claws as well as shrimp in there. It was very flavorful and a very filling plate, we had to togo both of them because the portions were so much! My cousin had the truffle burger and he said it was a great burger, came with fries and a pickle. We ordered two sides of calamari (take advantage of their happy hours as they are half off), it came with two delicious sauces and lemon. They were crispy, tender, and perfect appetizer in my opinion. I had the truffle pizza because I myself am a mushroom girly, it was also part of the happy hour, it's a pretty big pizza for one person so I do recommend sharing with people. The green onions and mushrooms paired perfectly on the thin crispy pizza bread. We came on a weekday which wasn't as crowded as the weekend so I do recommend coming on the weekday to avoid long lines and crowds. Our server Sam was very helpful, got us refills on our drinks plenty of times and constantly checked on us. It is more of a loud-ish dark place so keep that in mind if you want to dine inside, they also have outdoor seating near the shoreline! I usually like Yard House considering it is a chain. However, I do not like this one particular location. I came on a Thursday for lunch in November. We ordered onion rings and chicken nachos. We've had both of these dishes before at another location, and enjoyed it. The onion rings took forever to come out, at least 20 minutes. By the time it came out, the onion rings were cold and soggy. The first few were the worst and then we'd find one warm onion ring, but it was still soggy. We have never been people to send back food, but we were really on the edge of sending this one back. We were SO hungry since it took so long that we never ended up sending it back. The chicken nachos were a bit better than the onion rings, but was not as good as we've had at other Yard House locations. All the chips were soggy, and the salsa was more like a enchilada sauce than salsa. The chicken tasted like Costco canned chicken. I like Costco canned chicken for chicken salad sandwiches, not nachos!! Overall, very slow service with below average food for pretty expensive prices. I'll start off with the service at the bar and our waitress. Both positive, we sat at the bar waiting for our table to be ready. Got ourselves a drink, and everything was good. We finally got seated, and we ordered the wings and the calamari as appetizers, and everything was fine up until that point. And after that everything took a turn for the worse. I ordered the whiskey salmon, and my daughter ordered a ribeye plate and a pasta plate to share. As soon as my plate came out, we immediately spotted a hair, and we sent that plate back. As my daughter got a fork full of the pasta, she noticed another hair in the pasta. This was tangled in the fork she was about to put in her mouth. I was completely disgusted since I had already served myself some pasta and ate it while I waited for the salmon. My daughter was mad because she was about to eat that pasta with the hair. We notified the waitress, who was super cool up to this point, who said she would call the manager. But let me rewind to the first time we saw the hair on the plate. The guy that brought out the plate tried to downplay the first hair thing by saying, "That happens everywhere." I'm sure he didn't know what to say. However, his statement didn't help the situation. Came to the yard house on Oct 11th. Used their online queue service to set my table. Total of 5 adults and my Toddler Son. Got in vicinity queue once my location updated. The whole "not having to come in sign in and wait 60+ minutes" was absolutely amazing. Got seated inside and Was Paired with the amazing Justin who was warm and kind and completely in tune with the menu as he suggested adding a side of sauce to my jambalaya as he stated the rice sucks up the sauce. And he was absolutely right. By my joy with our server was the fact my 3.5 year old son was so grumpy because he was hungry. And Justin upon hearing that my little guy was hungry rushed his food. He brought my son's chicken tenders within 10 mins. Came to check on us repeatedly and made sure drinks and any extras were to our satisfaction. Justin definitely made our night. I always love Yardhouse. No matter what city you're in, the menu and the service is always consistent. Yardhouse has one of the best happy hours of any place and it's 3-6 and 10p-close in most locations. They have an extensive list of 1/2 price apps and pizza as well as $2 off beers, wells, and wines. Really good food. I got their lobster pasta which was good enough for about two people so serving was big. My sister is obsessed with their salmon which was really good as well. I had their lavender martini which was also a 10/10. I would definitely eat here again. Their workers are very nice and welcoming creating an amazing atmosphere for their customers. As i started eating i noticed and felt a string in my mouth and lips and come to find out it was a long strand of hair. I couldn't see the food because it was dark. We were seated, appetizer and drink orders taken, and the last thing I remember post steak bliss was being in a chocolate coma. We haven't been to this Yard House location in over 10 years for no other reason but the loudness and a few inconsiderate patrons that come here. It's a bar environment so I guess one should expect that type of behavior from drunks. But overall the staff and food were good. We were seated pretty quickly by a very nice hostess and were waited on by a very nice guy, Henry. Two great assets for the Yard House when good help is hard to find. Henry was friendly, explained the menu when we had questions, got our drinks to us fairly quickly and food came out a bit longer than anticipated but good service overall. Korean beef tacos were flavorful and had a good amount of kick to it, the Korean Beef Cheesesteak sandwich was a great choice, the Kurobuta pork sandwich was juicy and flavorful and lastly the cheese burger was good but messy. As for our drinks, My recollection of the names are the Long Beach tea, blueberry martini, a red/pink martinis and my beer flight. I hate to say but if not for the $25 gift card that was given to me last year, I highly doubt we would've dined here last night. Yard house is a nice choice but not really in my wheel house anymore, getting older and my changing tastes say thank you but no thank you.
