Every weekend we walk up Noriega and I chuckle at the line at Devils Teeth Bakery. Don't get me wrong--we love Devil's Teeth, but I am not willing to stand in line hungry for 30 mins. Why does the menu board say that there was White bread available if the cashier "doesn't know what white bread is". It was on the menu and instead on just saying that bread was unavailable or that the menu was outdated, she went on to say that to her white bread was sourdough and that they don't serve what I thought white bread was. I came here to grab a quick lunch with my brother and his girlfriend before we went for a hike down in San Bruno. I can't believe I didn't know this place existed until yesterday, even though I go to Toyose quite often across the street. The place itself has a cozy feel to it, like most mom and pop cafes normally do. I didn't know what to order because everything sounded really good. My brother recommended the Golden Gate, which has maple turkey, avocado, bacon, and gouda. Oh man, this was one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. I originally came to Noriega Street on Thanksgiving Day intent on getting a fresh breakfast biscuit sandwich from Devil's Teeth, but upon arriving we found out that they were only doing pie-pick-up and coffee service. Our disappointment quickly turned into hope as we spied Yonkers Cafe's "open" sign from across the street... and as it turned out, we would be quite happy with this blessing in disguise! From the outside, Yonkers looks like your average mom 'n pop shop well situated in terms of proximity to Ocean Beach, but once you step inside...you'll find a truly impressive menu for sandwiches (both breakfast-geared as well as more lunch-y ones), cafe beverages, and (you better believe it) wine as well! Judging from the size of the sandwiches our fellow customers were picking up, we knew it'd be a good idea to split our own Murphy's breakfast bagel...dear lawdy, that thing was STACKED! For myself, I could hardly open my mouth wide enough to manage a full bite of all the piping hot sausage, ham, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo inside! With all the juicy filling jammed in there, I was thankful they had toasted our bagel up really well so we'd still get that crunch on the edges. Did I mention it was only $8? Certainly money well spent, especially to support a local business! I also love that here at Yonkers you have such a wide selection of carb to choose from....whether you favor bagels, rolls, or croissants for your breakfastwich, or sliced bread (wheat, white, rye, sourdough) or rolls (dutch crunch, ciabatta, eta) for your lunch.... they got you covered! I've been here a couple of times and this place has pretty good sandwiches. We ordered the birdhouse, mimi's sandwich, and little italy. 4 stars for these and their consistently well-made sandwiches. Yonkers gets a one star because of what happened when I went to go pick up my order. The sign outside said masks are required and no more than three people inside. They were people milling about outside who are complying with this so I felt pretty safe going in because it was only two people inside when I arrived. I went up to the front to pay for the sandwiches I had called in and while I was doing that I noticed in the kitchen area right behind the counter there were workers who were navigating a very tight space to make sandwiches. Two of them were not wearing their face masks properly. One had their facemask under their nose and the other had it halfway over their mouth. I told the person at the front who was wearing her mask properly that the workers needed to wear their face mask over their nose and mouth properly or they were going to get themselves and the customers sick. She asked me who and I pointed to the two guys right behind her. She turned around and told the guys to wear the mask covering their nose and mouth and they immediately fixed it. Annoyed but satisfied, I told her that I would wait outside so as to not take up the three person space in the small café. When I heard my name being called I went back inside to pick up my sandwiches. When I walked back in the two guys had pulled her mask down again. I said to the woman that you all are going to get each other and people sick as I pointed to the guys. I told her I wouldn't be coming back and she could keep her napkins. I don't write a lot of negative reviews but I feel like this one is important. I'm not trying to take down a small business. We are in a moment where everyone needs to do basic things like mask wearing to keep each other healthy and safe. Look I get it, the mask is uncomfortable but if it is too uncomfortable there are other styles and types of masks to try. The workers or the owner must prioritize the health and safety of their staff to also ensure that customers don't get sick from contact. Until I start seeing reviews here about how this place is complying with mask wearing and other safety measures during COVID, I will not be returning. read more

This little hole in the wall café makes one hell of an excellent sandwich, and the potato salad isn't bad either. Because of it's modest dining room, there are only a handful of tables and chairs to sit at. All the sandwiches on the menu look like they're pretty much the same price across the board. $9.99 isn't bad for a sandwich that is of good quality. We both ordered the Jerk Chicken sandwich, which usually comes on a roll, but they were out of them on this day. The woman at the register offered to go across the street to get some more, but we were both happy with getting it on slice bread as well. The chicken on this sandwich was incredible. It was sliced, which made it easier to eat, and the jerk seasoning on it was amazing. It was spicy, but not burn your mouth off spicy, and it was a pretty decently sized sandwich. We also shared a half pound of red potato salad, which was super creamy and super delicious. Nice Service, Sandwiches disappointing. Like all places, I always look forward to trying out something new, and so this was one that is off my beaten path a bit. I had a sandwich here, and while it was loaded chock full of meats and whatnot, I just found the flavors very disappointing. They essentially just jam a lot of that Boars head meat on there (a LOT of meat, to their credit), toast the bread and slap some mustard and condiments on it, and call it good. Well, it just didn't seem to compare to other non-chain sandwich places here in the City for me. Bottom line - if you love Boars' Head brand sandwich meats, and don't care to taste much else in your sandwich, then this is your kinda place.. Otherwise, well..
