Great spot for Mediterranean food! I always order via the phone for a faster check out. And beware, even if you do that there's always some kind of delay. I know it's for quality insurance but before you can just come to pick up they always make you check the food you ordered and then they'll pack it up for you My go to meal is the chicken and steak combo plate with rice and hummus. Update on January 29 2017. So now I'm convinced they changed their rice recipe. I used to live their rice. Being of Mediterranean descent myself, their rice used to remind me of mom's. Now I swear it's like chicken flavored rice a roni and was sticky and clumpy. That's really bad. This place is hit or miss. I mean with the chicken. Sometimes the chicken is cooked to perfection. Other times it is bland or dry. They do make awesome rice. But this place is overpriced and is NO zankou chicken as far as reliably great rotisserie chicken every time. It will do in a pinch though. We like Mediterranean food so we've tried most of the restaurants around the Inland Empire. Zaky is our favorite hands down. The staff is always friendly and the food is always amazing. I recently visited Zaky's new restauarant in Upland. Here's the lowdown: With respect to what I call "fast-dining" restaurants that serve middle eastern food, I like to see if there is a logical relationship between the quality & quantity of the food they serve with the prices they are asking their customers to pay. I only focus on quality and quantity of food because generally speaking, most of the fast-dining middle eastern restaurants in southern california are not designed to win over their customers with excellent service and/or a decorative and relaxed dining area. Zaky's is no different. At Zaky's, you walk to the counter, place your order and sit at an open spot of an bench affixed across the wall with a table in front of you until your order is called. It's your standard mundane dining hall set up. Nothing Special. After studying their prices and tasting their food, I've concluded that Zaky's has an unjustifiably high cost for their food. The exceptions are that their a la carte sandwiches are averagely priced. However, most of their plates are 2-3 dollars higher than average. With respect to quantity, the typical plate comes with a protein, a hefty scoop of rice and hummus as well as a few pickled turnips. Honestly, it wouldn't kill their budget if they included salads into their plates instead of store bought turnips. But how did it taste? Everything I tasted was seasoned correctly. Should that be a bonus? No, because we are expecting it to be seasoned correctly, aren't we? In fact, if I tasted it and discovered that they have unseasoned food then they have a really big problem on their hands. So if its not a fancy dining hall or unforgettable customer service, then what's justifying their enormously high prices? For instance, 5.99 for a large container of garlic sauce? How about, 6.99 for Tabuleh, a salad dish whose main ingredients are diced parsley and bulgar wheat? My educated guess is the owner is trying to maximize his profits on the ignorance of residents of the surrounding area who simply aren't aware they are being overcharged for standard middle eastern dishes. But if that's his target market, so be it. However, as a middle eastern whose knows just how much the products served at this type of restaurant costs, I won't be coming back. read more

This place is horrible!!!! They are sooo slow and their food is OK and not worth the price. The manager seems to occasionally yell at his staff when there are customers around. How professional is that? The atmosphere is also really just ok. Looks clean but feels dirty. A few months ago, I bought a chicken sandwich and I chewed through about 3 cartilages throughout the meal. So unappetizing. Another time, I purchased a Beef Shawarma sandwich, and the hispanic lady there was in such a rush to close and get out of there by 9pm that she forgot my drink that came with a meal. I also have a friend who worked there recently. Oh the stories I heard from her!!!! My friend confirmed that the cooks would sometimes drop food on the ground and put it back on the grill. He said the manager said it was ok because the grill would cook any germs out of the food. Wtf. She was afraid to report it for being fired so never said anything. I also heard that the manager was cheap so he'd purposely higher the temperature of the AC just to save money. He'll only lower it for one special customer. No wonder it's always damn warm in there. My 22-month old picky eater who just ended a 2 week food strike (due to illness) loved the ROTISSERIE CHICKEN so much she almost finished an entire drumstick. I personally found the chicken very bland and dry. So much so that my mouth felt uncomfortable as I finished my piece of white meat. The LAMB KEBAB was just ok if not a bit too... lamby. The garlic spread was genuinely good and had a bit of a bite. We drive by this place everyday, it's really close to home and we were hoping to find a regular go-to place. I don't think so. Not to mention there was a lot of commotion at the front counter with customers getting wrong orders, etc. How does that happen when you have 10 guys working back there? Okay, I'm exaggerating about the number but really, there were at least 6 guys working the grill and about 3 customers - lunchtime? Finally, the food. Nope, not impressed at all. We both had the kabob wraps, his steak, mine lamb. We were totally unimpressed, with everything. The taste of the meat, the texture, a few diced tomatoes, a few diced cucumbers, some onions. We could have done this at home and done it better. I know some people love this place, to each his own. But, I've had better med grill off a truck in phoenix. But for what you get, the prices are extremely disproportionate. I ordered the kafta kabob plate and my friend got the half chicken plate. My plate came with 4 pieces of rolled kafta, some hummus, a ton of rice and a few pickled turnips. When I asked the guy for a side of garlic sauce, he said i could buy a small for 2.99 or a tub for 5.99?? say what? you mean to tell me that the garlic sauce which costs pennies to make is being charged for, when other places give it out for free? i don't think so. I know you dont look for ambience at these places but when the food is sub par and the prices too high, you gotta give me something else to justify coming back here. O.k., I wouldn't categorize the food as terrible I wouldn't even say it was bad; It's just under-whelming. Besides their garlic sauce nothing is worth trying again. (and the garlic sauce is only slightly above average) My rice was bland and overcooked and i thought the tzatziki was pretty bad. (i've probably had hundreds of different tzatziki sauces'; this was definitely one of the worst) For the combo plates I think the prices are too high for what you get. Overall the place is "eehhhh"! They said yes. This was a red flag I shouldn't have ignored. Maybe it's my palate, but garlic sauce made with potato is disgusting. Soca in Claremont (terrible) makes theirs the same way, I found them to be disappointing and expensive. Maybe it's just me. So anyway, the chicken was moist, but tasted very bland and reminded me of supermarket rotisserie chicken (like Cosco chicken, which got me sick once so it now repulses me). I would be shocked if I found out that rice wasn't simply rice-a-roni. The hummus was also bland but not terrible. My wife ordered lentil soup which she said tasted like taco seasoning and grossed her out. And then just to salt the wound, everything was cold. This place used to be my favorite. Not anymore. I spent $80 they forgot all my sauces and dressings, charged me for extra feta cheese for my 2 salads but there was barely any on either salad. I asked for kalamata olives, and was dismissed on my request. When I got home with the food that's when I noticed none of sauces or dressings were in either one of the bags. I drove back to restaurant and told them what happened and just asked for my sauces and instead of just politely helping me out, the woman argued with me and insisted the sauces were in the bags and I was mistaken.
