This location is better than others. They are very clean, fast and super nice when you place your order. The Tarna plate is huge and filled with lots of crispy spicy slices. The hummus is OK, needs more lemon but, it's better than store bought. We usually get 1 Tarna plate and 1 side of their wonderful tasty basmati rice. Then we split and make two dinners with lots of garlic sauce and the pickles! . Always enough food, very fresh and the price is good. I recently ate at the one on Ventura in Tarzana and it is so below par as far as the others. But, this review is to praise the Burbank location. If you need to taste something they are very generous with their sample. It's worth it to drive from North Hollywood to Burbank. Did I mention that this one is very clean? Always a plus from me. As I mentioned in another review, Burbank has many options for kabobs etc. And I normally try to avoid chains for such food. But I keep going to this Zankou location, and it just deserves 5 stars for their flavorful food, and cheerful service. I love their chicken kabab, shish kabab and their tarna. my hubby & i were driving down to LA for a wedding back in April. i was determined to try Zankou so i found that we could swing by the burbank location on our way down. i was quite satisfied with the very yummy & fresh hot off the grill mixed tri-tip & chicken shish kababs, creamy hummus, pita, rice, salad, and the must-have garlic sauce lunch plate for $10.99! my hubby & daughter had the tri-tip shawerma for the first time, and they liked it too (both are picky eaters)! i live in SF and had tried a few mediterranean places, but nothing came close to Zankou! i wish they would open some up here, they would do really well in SF!! read more

you can get a good tasting relatively healthy meal here and without breaking the bank. certain items do take awhile to be served but i would rather that than have a bunch of pre-prepared food that comes out quickly. i wouldnt recommend this if you were looking for a place to grab a quick bite, but definitely if you have some time on your hands and are looking for a place that serves tasty food, give it a try read more

4 stars [i cannot always get this new roll over star system to work! err!] zankou is zankou is zankou - yeah kinda - but this ones interior decor is downright posh [& a little zen - looks like it might have been built in this century instead of last] . this really is compared to the anaheim location. anaheim is fine, nice & clean, high turnover of food, very friendly service - it just looks like it was a fast food burger joint before, you know hard plastic chairs etc... ordered the plate w/ 1/2 chix, 1/2 tri tip - yummy as usual. [too many onions & minimal pickles so i can say something next time up front]. lettuce & tomato burried underneath. the tahini & hummus so creamy good i take the leftovers home, stop off at the sproats next door to buy some more pitta & add avacado to their purple 'pickles'. [if you run out of purple pickles you can use real green pickle slices]. i can eat that for breakfast, lunch or dinner. didn't notice anything out of the ordinary about the service, but then again i really didn't check the cooks out. i'm hungry, i want my food & eat. i did go back to ask for pickles & the gal did give me a little cup with that & peppers & didn't charge me extra. so pleasant - if anyone had major attitude i would have noticed. the only thing is the parking is a bit congested by zankou so you may have to park further down or in the strip mall right next door. read more

Very nice looking place with patio seating. Ordered the chicken which was very dry. Saw it on Food Network since it was featured on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate." Yes, the garlic sauce is kinda crazy in a very unique way, but it can't make up for the overcooked chicken. Took forever to get our food since they ran out of chicken for awhile. Had seen Zankou Chicken on Best Thing I Ever Ate garlic edition and knew we'd stop next time thru LA. Now, must say, we live in GILROY so we take garlic VERY SERIOUSLY. Was busy on random Monday but very fast. I ordered the half chicken platter mainly because I wanted the garlic sauce. Hubs got the falafel plate and hummus and immediately regretted not getting the chicken shawarma (dur... It's Zankou CHICKEN!!). Falaffel was ok. We just are used to Falaffel House in SJ so we are spoiled (a Triple D spot). Both plates came with a side of hummus, pita, chopped tomatoes and pickled radish. All sides were just phenomenal. My chicken was moist. But the garlic sauce. The garlic sauce is bomb.com and absolutely makes the meal!! I want a vat so I can put it on everything!! It's kinda whipped oil with fabulous garlic flavor. Similar to mayo but better. I know, I really never knew there was anything better than mayo!! Really reasonable!! And a ton of food!! The shish kabob and the combo plate comes with HUGE meat portions which in comparison to other middle eastern style restaurants is by far the best. I currently work on a show that places large catering size orders on a weekly basis. I had some questions regarding their catering menu and asked to speak with the manager. When he finally got on the line he was not open to any of my questions and clearly didn't want to talk to me. He then again put me on hold and the woman who originally answered started talking to me again. When I again asked for the manager because I had questions for him she told me that he doesn't take orders so he passed me to her. Moving forward we will not be ordering from this location. I recommend Toluca Lake their manager is far nicer and answered all my questions. read more

Angie at Zankou Burbank saved my dinner! Had a houseful of hungry guests, put in a large order from the catering menu, sent my son to pick it up only to discover that I'd ordered from the wrong location! We're 10 minutes away from the Van Nuys location and I mistakenly called Burbank. In rush hour traffic it would have been an hour round trip to Burbank so I spoke to Angie and she agreed to drive the order in our direction and meet my son halfway. The food was great but the service was horrible. The gal at the register was very rude. We were in the middle of ordering - like we had literally said "... And we'd like ..." when she cut us off and totaled up our order before we were even done. I told her we'd like a few other things when she cut us off again in the middle of that, too. We then asked for a side of garlic sauce so we could take it home, and she rudely asserted "both plates come with it - is that all?" No attempts to upsell us anything, no trying to accommodate our desire to have more items so that we can take them home and enjoy them that night, just acting like we were putting her out by actually ordering food. I thought that that's what restaurant was for. And sorry, the food isn't good enough to make up for this lousy attitude; when you're charging quite a bit for food, you need to have it accompanied by warm, welcoming service. read more

i just drove from panorama city to burbank aprox. 8 miles each way, 4 times... ordered a whole chicken extra juicy and small humus $15.25!. they sold me a chicken burn to the crisp( not extra juicy), obviously from the pile which had been cooking since morning which they were about to trash. g thanx! there is a little known secret about zanku. you gotta ask for extra juicy otherwise you get the one which is gonna get trashed if it cooks a bit longer. that's not all... the "chicken"looked more like a quail. i've ordered half chicken before and got more than the 'whole" chicken today. i drove back just to get a refund and make a point to let them why i wanted a refund. when the empyoyee looked at the bag i brought back even she said, " this was a half chicken right?" hahaha!!! geez i've been going to zanku for 15+ years and it has got worse and worse, smaller and smaller ,more and more expensive. do not go here if you value your time and money. no respect. shame on you read more

If your like me than every time you step foot inside of a Zankou Chicken you are magically teleported back in time when you were a child clinging to your parent and politely asking him or her to not forget the sour pickle thing. Or am I the only child who enjoyed those pickled beats? lol All I'm saying is that many of us grew up eating Zankou Chicken with loved ones and that we have a special part in our memories that reminds us each time we visit that we are in a special place. I still enjoy the food, but if memory serves me correctly, than the flavor is slightly off a bit. Not to mention, the serving size has gotten smaller on the wraps to, but that's how it has been for some years now. All in all I'm glad that Zankou Chicken is still around and that they have manged to expand to other locations. Keep up the good work, so many more generations of individuals can also have that warm fuzzy feeling as they walk inside your establishments! read more
