My girlfriend and I really like Zankou chicken but we recently had a bad experience with them in Glendale. We came in at around 1 PM so we understand it was pretty busy both counters have queues. We didn't mind because as I said we like their food. So while I waited on queue my girlfriend decided to use the restroom. There were 2 restrooms one said "MEN" and the other "WOMEN". So my girlfriend stood in line in front of the door for "WOMEN". She noticed there was a pair of shoes in front of the door and as soon as the door opened this guy cuts her and says he was on line he left his shoes. So naturally my girlfriend was stunned. She told him "excuse me?" and he very rudely goes about how he works there and he needs to change then went inside. After he comes out, and still very rude he says "it's the same, if you look at both restrooms they're the same. We then asked for the supervisor and was told the same: "it's the same and they do that all the time. Whaaat?!!! If you ask me, it is not the same! And the rude manner she was treated was unacceptable to me. It was like my girlfriend was out of her mind like she is finding the most natural thing in the world a tad offensive. Also, the fact that their management does not seem to be willing to do anything about it or at the very least address it is beyond me. read more

It's a testament to the quality of the food that so many people are willing to wait, and trust me, it's worth it! While waiting for my meal, I glanced at the menu and realized I had forgotten to order the pickled red beets, which usually come with the meal--unless they're only served with the chicken? As usual, I wished they offered more rice; it's simply never enough! This particular location has a simplicity to its décor. I recently visited Zankou Chicken and had an incredibly disappointing experience. We ordered the combo kabob and Tri tip shawerma, which we were excited to try given the restaurant's reputation. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a big mistake. The combo kabob tasted good I don't think that was the problem, it was the damn Tri tip shawerma was very oily and fatty. The meat was tough and chewy, which made it difficult to enjoy. To make matters worse, a few hours after dining, both my fiancé and I experienced severe stomach cramps and food poisoning symptoms. We spent the rest of the night feeling miserable and regretting our choice to eat there. This experience has left me with no desire to return to this Zankou Chicken. It's unfortunate because I had high hopes, but the quality of food and the subsequent health issues were unacceptable. This place use to be so good! One thing is for sure, you couldn't find more miserable staff at a fast food place than this one. The cashiers seem so emotionally distant now and it seems like they just wanna get you out the door as fast as they can. If they are busy, don't even bother calling in, your order wont go through for like an hour. The tea tasted dirty and the Falafels were absolutely awful, not a single one, out of six, were fully cooked. I was able to taste the baking soda in the mixture! The hummus was good but the pita had been cooked too long and got stiff and was no longer soft. The worst part is that the garlic sauce that they gave to me was so sticky and looked like it had been used! The manager Amy seems like she does not know what she was doing half the time. This is an amazing place. Even though the place is pretty old, the place is always clean. The service is excellent. The gentleman in black has such a great customer service, walked me through the whole menu patiently, not rushing me, and went into details. I assume he is the manager of this place according to what a saw, I noticed him directing people, asking the cashiers to go outside the dining room, saw him explaining the cooks how how to prepare the meals with a nice smile on his face. I've been to several restaurants and you almost never see the manager on duty, and when you do they always seem to have a long serious face. He recommended the Shawerma plate, and oh man! I was a bit bummed when the Zankou on Glenoaks just recently closed down.. it was close to my pad and kept up with the same delicious quality of food that I've been used to with Zankou over the years. I had a craving for a shawarma plate over the weekend and had no other choice of locations in Glendale other than the Colorado restaurant.. boy am I sorry I ever stopped coming here in the first place. I got my meal and was given 6 extra pita breads, 2 more sides of sour pickles, and an extra container of their godly garlic spread.. all for FREE. I paid $13 for the shawarma plate, a large fountain drink and all the extras. The exact identical order with same extras would cost $17 at the Glenoaks location.. how does that work exactly? First time back in SoCal in 5 years and was SO excited to have Zankou again. I originally ordered a few wraps and some rice the night before, unfortunately when I got home the order was not correct and was a bit disappointed obviously. The kicker was I threw my receipt away and paid with cash. I came back the next day to try and get things corrected and the manager Melissa was EXTREMELY helpful. She not only made sure to refund us for the previous error, but made sure to assist us with another order and complimented part of the meal. This type of service is in rare form nowadays, and working with Melissa was a breath of fresh air regarding caring customer service. is basically a mockey of what middle eastern food is. it was such a big hit to some people whove never had middle eastern food before and dont know what it looks or tastes like, so obviously it would be a different explosion to your tastebuds after too many burgers and fast food joints but to be honest... i didnt enjoy it at all. the food was greasy. theyre stingy with their amounts and the owner should go abroad to LEARN what middle eastern food is like instead of the steretype. its basically a fast food joint for middle eastern food.or greek or whatever. i still am trying to figure out how theyve managed to open up so many.besides the fact that theyve taken advantage of the fact of how naive people can be about a cultures food. read more

The Chicken Tarna Wrap and Tri-Tip wrap are both incredibly tasty. I have to admit, I love Zankou, but the Glendale dining area could use some updating. Burbank's location is so beautiful and I wish this location had the same aesthetic. However, I still prefer delicious wraps with an older interior. And let's talk about the garlic sauce. It's amazing and doesn't need any more praise, but I can't help myself. I could eat this sauce all day, every day. I love it so much that when no one is around, I use a spoon to eat it. Don't judge me - you know you've done it too! The sauce in the wrap is also really flavorful. My only suggestion would be to add some cucumber to the wrap. All in all, I will always love this place. Every time I leave this place I feel as if I'm about to explode-- I usually get the chicken shawarma plate (I believe that's what its called.) The plate comes with a side of hummus, salad and their pickled veggies but you can mix and match whatever you want. They have this incredible garlic sauce that is pure holiness. Recently, in my opinion anyways, their customer service has greatly taken a turn for the better. Parking is a hassle at times, but you can always find someone leaving or even parking on the street. I picked up a large to go order the phone and a lovely lady named Raz helped me through the process. I was worried about placing a large order over the phone as most places have been sending us home with incorrect orders, but thanks to her, everything worked out great. I went to pick up my to go order and was lucky enough to have Raz be the person helping me pay and check out. She double checked to make sure everything was in the bag, took her time to see if she could get me anything else, and was very patient and attentitive. Hummus is pretty legendary. Chicken is rotisserie to perfection. Lamb melts like butter. The whole place smelled like very strong bathroom cleaner. Enough to make you sick. Got food to go and the stench stayed with me all the way home. Food tasted like the place smelled and couldn't eat it. I've had this place before and it was decent, but this time the experience of being there ruined the food for me. The employees are not very helpful either. They act annoyed when you ask them questions about what comes in a plate, like I should just know. I never believed in leaving a Yelp review but I had to leave one today. My experience at zankou was phenomenal, excellent service provided by cashiers and the managers. Taking an order was so quick and easy, the cashiers greeted me with a smile and the environment was so well maintained. The managers were constantly checking on the guests. I have never seen this kind of service in any Mediterranean places I've been to. Great job !!! I will definitely be coming back. read more
