I really love New Zealand-style ice cream because they blend real fruit directly into the ice cream, which makes it taste fresh and flavorful. I first tried it at a shop in San Diego and loved it, so I was excited to see a place here offering it too. I visited with my family, and we ordered several items. I got a small vanilla with pineapple, which I was excited to try. I understand they were busy, but I did notice the blending machine wasn't cleaned between every order. Because of that, some of the flavors seemed to carry over. My ice cream had a slight strawberry taste even though I ordered pineapple. It wasn't noticeable in every order, but it did affect a few of ours. While it may not bother everyone, it can impact the taste and could also be something to consider for customers with food allergies or sensitivities. read more

Got Zeds for my birthday treat and have wanted to go back ever since! Think of it as the outdoor ice cream spot you used to go to as a kid but elevated. This was my first time visiting Zeds Real Fruit Ice Cream in East Austin. When I arrived at 11:30 pm, they were not serving ice cream. It appears Noon is the bewitching hour for serving ice cream at this Zed location. I had only been to the Zed's in Tarrytown, which does not serve coffee. I ordered a white blond, which was a latte. The latte was Luke warm and lacked flavor, so I had hazelnut flavoring added. It still was not appealing. I only drank about half of the latte and threw the remaining amount away. Very tasty and super fresh- they did get one of our flavors wrong and instead of giving blueberry- we got black berry- my daughter said it was still good so we didn't switch it out, but she ended up stealing my banana pudding ice cream and I was stuck with hers :( the line went quickly, the parking can be a mess here because it's smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood- with the other food trucks surrounding it... we found street parking 2 streets away so it wasn't a far walk.. read more

Zeds Ice Cream is phenomenal! Came here around 8 PM on a Monday night and there was quite the crowds of ice-cream enthusiasts waiting to get their ice cream. Parking here is a bit limited but there is plenty of street parking available in the immediate area. The ice cream selection is unique: Pick your size, ice cream flavor (one fruit flavor mixed with either regular or dairy-free vanilla), then you add your desired drizzles and toppings. I ordered the Waffle Cone with strawberry flavor, chocolate + peanut butter drizzles, and cookie dough bites + Oreo toppings. It was quite the size and packed a punch! The wait is about 10-ish minutes after you place your order. There are plenty of picnic styled benches to sit and enjoy your ice cream. Highly recommend! read more

This place was amazing!! The ice cream is so unique, nothing like I've ever had before. I loved how light the flavoring was. It didn't feel too sweet, and the flavor tasted very fresh. The workers are very quick and efficient! Strawberry: This flavor was my favorite. There are small strawberry bits inside, which added a nice texture. I've heard great things about Zed's real fruit ice cream. It's a little stand with outdoor picnic bench seating only, so we were huddled and shivering in the rain while enjoying our ice cream. I got a cup of the blackberry crumble, which comes with blackberry ice cream, graham cracker crumbs, and caramel drizzle. The first two thirds of the ice cream were delicious, then the last third didn't have much flavour and tasted really milky. I got a small cup for $6.50, and it came with more ice cream than I expected. My friends got the banana milkshake with chocolate, and it definitely tasted very banana-y without much of a chocolate taste. read more

The fruit and base combine to become a delicious soft serve. There are a ton of toppings and drizzles to choose from. I ordered the strawberry with vanilla ice cream and toasted coconut flakes, which was a fantastic combo. This was perfect for a hot summer day! My friends and I loved it. It's nice to have a slightly more healthy option for a desert especially for a city that's pretty health conscious. The perfect refreshing summer treat! I decided to try this place out after seeing so many positive reviews and I'm glad I did because I am a big fan. I didn't know New Zealand had a specific style of ice cream, so this was new to me. It is made to order and they blend in real fruits with the base ice cream (of choice) to create a yummy dessert. I enjoyed Zeds! I'm not usually a fruit dessert person, but this was actually really good. We were there around 9pm on a Sunday night, and there was only around a 2 min wait. I ordered the blackberry crumble and my husband had a banana milkshake. The blackberry crumble was perfect for me - very light and loved the toppings on it as well. My husband also really liked his milkshake - I'm not a fan of banana flavor, so it wasn't for me but that's just personal taste! Love the concept but I think the execution is alright. Came right before they were closing and they gave us a honey bottle to mark us as the last people they'll accept in line as well as 20% (or 15%?) off which I thought was really cool. My friend raves about the strawberry cheesecake here so that's what I tried and it was pretty underwhelming. I like how you pick the fruit you want mixed into the base, and how natural of a taste it has, but I just wish it had more sweetness to it--either from riper fruit or maybe some honey mixed in. I also wasn't a fan of the cheesecake bites as I found the texture and flavor to be a bit off from regular cheesecake. I'm willing to give them another chance tho and see how the other fruits end up turning out. read more

Overall it was a good time. The line was pretty long when I went on a Sunday evening. I placed my order at the window and grabbed a spot at one of the wooden tables (plenty of tables that are shaded). They have a little play area that had lots of kids running around. Super casual experience. There are also two other food trucks on site. I think the ice cream just wasn't for me. You pick an ice cream base, I did vanilla, then choose your fruit mix-in. The raspberry didn't have enough flavor for me to be impressed. The banana was better, but banana just isn't my thing. We looked at their options and asked if we could taste the dairy free option. The man helping us was very friendly and he gave us taster spoons and told us it was made with oat milk. I ordered a small cup of the pineapple fruit, one scoop of the dairy free vanilla ice cream, with chopped pecan toppings. My husband ordered a regular size cup of the banana fruit, two scoops of dairy free vanilla ice cream, with a peanut butter drizzle. After ordering we looked for a place to sit and wait. They have seating in the front of the building, and in the back by the parking lot. My ice cream was really good. It was sweet but not overly sweet. The pineapple flavor was noticeable and the pecan toppings added a nice crunchy texture to the smooth, all natural ice cream. I tried my husband's and the banana flavor was also noticeable. The peanut butter drizzle added a slight saltiness. They were both very good. Overall it was a good place to get some ice cream. The service was good, and the ice cream was yummy. I love bringing people from out of town here! It's a neat little neighborhood spot with good vibes. The menu is simple and it's great for people who might get decision paralysis. I always get the strawberry with vanilla base, topped with buñuelo and honey. Friends have gotten the blueberry and the banana, both of which have been really good as well. I've been here more times than I can count and I have never been disappointed by the soft serve or the service. There's a tiny parking lot and there's street parking. 4/19/25 Zeds always hits the spot! We came in on a Saturday afternoon, around 4 PM. It was pretty busy, but it honestly always is (for good reason). Zeds has a very small parking lot in front of its building, but there's plenty of parking along the street in the surrounding neighborhood, just pay attention to the signs. Seating is all outside and it's good for small and larger parties--there's probably 12-15 picnic-style benches of all sizes. There are a couple of food trucks in the space as well if you're looking to eat before dessert or vice versa. There's also an enclosed play area for the kiddos. The seasonal items available vary pretty often, which we like. This time around I ordered the "Chocolate Strawberry Cookie" ice cream. It was creamy and delicious. The Chocolate drizzle mixed with the strawberry ice cream alone would have been good, but the addition of the cookie dough bites elevated it even more!! Highly recommend Zeds for your ice cream-fill. This is a great spot for ice cream. The ice cream has a nice taste, the fruit is fresh, there are lots of drizzle and add on toppings. I got the cheesecake bites and chocolate chips added to vanilla ice cream. The portions are pretty big imo. It was a great treat. it was packed on a regular thursday night! the line was super long but moved relatively fast. I thought that it was gonna be like sorbet but it was more cream based which I definitely prefer. we got blueberry and blackberry with coconut cream, I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between the two but both were very good! Only thing that wasn't ideal is the employee let me know that my banana flavor mixed a bit with raspberry from someone else's order and the result was a little bit weird - but I still liked it! While exploring the many museums across the University of Texas campus, a quick caffeine break was needed for my girlfriend and we were overwhelmed by the number of options on The Drag. It makes sense that there are plenty of places to choose from because of the large number of UT students. Everyone needs a little coffee in their lives. One of the highest reviewed ones with a large pool of ratings was Lucky Lab Coffee and after checking a few quick reviews, we decided to give it a chance. Lucky Lab has five locations in Austin (four on campus) and one location in Dripping Springs. The one we were at off The Drag was their flagship. This location serves a little bit of everything from sandwiches to pastries, salad to quiche, and of course, coffee. As we walked inside the flagship, it is easy to notice how tight the space is. There is very little seating inside at their bar, but they make up for it with plenty of shaded outdoor space that is perfect for a nice day. Scanning their menu, we landed on some drinks from their winter menu. I was intrigued by their Pomegranate Rosemary Latte while my girlfriend tried their Ginger Spice Mocha. We got them both iced. First, it is interesting to see the fusion of pomegranate and rosemary in a latte. I was intrigued by those flavors. Their drink sizes are 12 oz, 16 oz, and 20 oz, each adding an additional 50 cents to each upgrade. All milk alternatives cost 1 dollar. It was only a short wait to get our coffees and the cup with the little lab on it was cute. I think specialty drinks have an opportunity to be amazing and one of a kind or the worst drink imaginable. This pomegranate rosemary latte did not fall into either category exactly, but leaned more toward the latter. I love pomegranates and I always appreciate how earthy rosemary can be in a coffee. One of my favorite lattes I have ever had has rosemary in it. This was just not working for me. I shamefully did not finish my coffee. As for my girlfriend, she did not like her ginger spice mocha. I could not imagine gingerbread syrup not working in a mocha, but after trying it myself it was not for me either. It seems like a perfect match, but here the gingerbread is competing with the chocolate and instead of complementing each other they clash. She told me that the flavors were "un-mocha like". She drank less than half of her coffee before tossing it as well. Neither of us wanted to dislike Lucky Lab. They seem well established and I felt like they were trustworthy based on reviews, but I wonder what these previous reviewers were tweaking on or what magical concoction of coffee granted from heaven above they were sipping on because we were distraught by how disappointing these drinks were. I would like to give Lucky Lab Coffee Co the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe the specialty drinks were not up to par with their traditional beverages. However, the almost 30 different syrup options on their wall make me feel they lack a little focus and try too hard to stand out. They lose what makes a coffee good, which is coffee. I want to say I will give them a second shot in the future to see if it was just an off day or a bad beverage pick. Too many shots turns a Lucky Lab into Old Yeller. The food was much better than I even anticipated - as a guy who grew up on NJ diner mozzarella sticks, I have a high bar for them and these were magnificent. And seriously...taking the "everything's bigger in Texas" slogan and applying them to mozzarella sticks?! top 10 achievements of the decade. The chicken parm was perfect - well seasoned, proper amount of crisp..the basil on top...the perfect browning of the cheese. Also the lasanga was excellent..and best part - the leftovers..took it home and the next two days put them in a small cast iron and re-heated them..and the magic was right there in my hill country kitchen! Lastly and certainly not least - the cannoli...just look at the photo below.. I'll say, yes, the place is pricey but you can really easily split these entrees and then it becomes cheaper than a jersey strip center Italian joint. I haven't stopped raving about Sammie's since I've been there, and I cannot wait to return, recommend it, and take friends and family that visit.
