The place is alright. Pretty pricy for the area and the service is whatever. I had to literally prove to the waitress that the soy sauce wasn't low sodium. I kid you not, I had to make her taste it. After she dabbed her finger in my tray and tasted the soy sauce, her facial reaction gave it away. ITS NOT LOW SODIUM. But she kept insisting that it was. Food was alright. For the short drive, I recommend Sakura over this place. OR any other sushi place around the area for that matter. Except Sake Sushi. They suck too. read more

One of the best sushi joints in the 818, the service is always great, they remember your name, what you like, and always a pleasant experience overall. They have amazing real bull crab dishes and sushi, their albacore is delicious and I won't even start with the yellowtail!!!! This place is a disaster. Honestly, we've given them so many chances because they are geographically close. We ordered online tonight at 6:55pm. at 8pm I called to find out why our food still had not arrived. We were told it had left the restaurant 5 minutes earlier and that we were the first delivery. We live two blocks from the restaurant. Our food showed up tonight at 8:45. Nearly two full hours after we ordered. In addition, the order was not complete. There was no hoisin or wraps for our order of moo shu chicken. The owner offered us a discount for our next order. Ummmm, no thanks. There won't be a next order, and we recommend if you are considering eating there-- that you go elsewhere! read more

I have had great experiences in this place both dining in and taking out. Customer service is always top notch. However, I have always visited this restaurant during the weekdays so I cannot vouch for the weekend service. Went there today and was totally disappointed in the food. So so on the sushi and presentation. Ordered the Hot braised shrimp which tasted like catsup sauce; very mediocre (and I spent over $50). Brought home and after eating the meal, my husband just looked at me. I had to apologize to him for going there. Too bad too, because it is close to our home. Absolutely love this place. As a note, I have never tried their Chinese food, only their sushi. Zen has the best sushi in the area, that I am sure of. We are regulars here. They have a very wide variety of Asian food. The service is always good when we dine in and the delivery is always fast as well. I don't recommend ordering the sushi for delivery if you are also ordering hot food since the sushi ends up being warm and the soy sauce is always piping hot, both of which are no good for sushi. We have tried several items and have enjoyed all of them, especially the Garlic Chicken and Honey Walnut Shrimp. The food usually doesn't come out right if I ask for something special (like the sauce on the side) but for the most part all of their food is good as it is made anyway. read more

I go here a lot because it's local. Their honey walnut shrimp is good but doesn't beat Panda Inn's. It's sort of sweeter and more intense with the pineapples. However, their sushi is good. This is just a review of the garlic chicken as it was the only dish that I tried here. It was completely awful. First of all about 50% of the dish is broccoli, not chicken. I kid you not, it was really hard to pick out the chicken to eat because they stuffed so much damn broccoli in there. Second, I asked for extra garlic with the dish, I don't know if they added any extra, but there was barely any garlic at all! I thought they might have mixed up the order, but I did find some microscopic pieces of garlic. Also, it indicates in the menu that this is a spicy dish, uh no. Not spicy at all. Zen opened up not so long ago, and so far im a fan. The decor inside is beautiful although the outside could use a little work. Usually the place isnt too crowded so you can get a seat right away. Here are some of the Rolls i recommend Sunset Roll: Crispy and comes with a really good sauce Heart Attack: Pretty Good Shrimp Tempura roll: not a big fan of shrimp but if you are you'll love this. Btw you should go only during dinner becuase thats when i think they have the best food. If you're in the mood for chinese food it's great. The price for the lunch specials are reasonable. My favorite is the kung pao chicken and Hot Sauteed shredded beef....YUMMY. Do not order sushi unless you have 2 hrs to spare during your lunch hour. The sushi is not good at all, so it will be a waste of your time and money. The worst thing about this place is the service. Our host, server and possible manager was pleased to hear it was our first dining experience at Zen's Sushi and Gourmet Asian Cuisine and became very attentive. The Rainbow Cut Roll was marginal. The Las Vegas Cut Roll tasted fresh and flavorful:) The Omega 3 Cut Roll of the specialty menu was potent with red onion, blan after removing the red onion and expensive. The Pineapple Chicken is prepared thinly sliced, undercooked and drenched in sweet and sour sauce. The check was expensive including two large Sapporos at a restaurant I've overlooked for a year and a half. read more

I just had one of the best experiences I've ever had in a restuarnt when I ate here on a Friday night. The staff was so friendly and accomodating for my needs for my crippled daughter and did everything they could to make us as comfortable as possible. We were glad to have a Chinese restaurant open again after not going for many years to the former restaurant when it went downhill. So, tonight we got a take-out menu (has already been tossed out) and ordered Sweet & Sour Pork, Orange Chicken and two orders of steamed rice. There was more than enough food for two people and the steamed rice was as good as any steamed rice anywhere. There... that was saying something nice. The "spicy" Orange Chicken was not one bit spicy. We should have probably just eaten the red peppers (that are not actually edible). The Sweet & Sour Pork was equally as bland. There aren't words to describe the pointlessness of this food. The food awful and it cost over $27.00!! Save your money and drive to La Canada and enjoy much more flavorful food for much less money and hit Panda Express! Trust me I wish I had actually believed the reviews I read here and on a couple of other blogs. I came with my girfriend a little over a week ago. The food was to die for, thew atmsosphere..... very zen like. Lets get to the food and service. Honey wallnut shrimp, orange beef and blackjack role all recommended by our server named Suny. We were unsure what to order because we are not the biggest sushi eaters so we put our trust into our server. After an hour of dinning and drinking we would have to say this place is amazing. Attentive service for my boyfriend and friends. It's an Asian fusion place, with Thai, Chinese, and Japanese dishes. Very cool. We ordered chicken pad thai, mixed veggies, orange chicken, and beef. Even though there were four of us, the servings were large enough that there were ample leftovers. The flavors of all the dishes were wonderful accompaniments to each other, although the spicy and "slightly" spicy dishes were a bit much for my sensitive palate. I can't wait for this excuse to drop by La Crescenta again! Maybe next time I'll have some sushi!! read more

I really like the food here and the atmosphere. It has two areas to sit in, one is more dimly lit and quiet, the other side is bigger and has the windows. I prefer the quieter darker side. The food itself is really good, especially the 24 roll, Bomb Bomb roll, and Dynamite roll (if you like mushrooms). The Chinese food is amazing (love the Pad Thai noodles and honey walnut shrimp). The food comes out pretty quickly and the employees are nice. My only problem is the delivery service. We ordered to our house one time and were very disappointed because none of the sauces we had asked (emphasized, several times) for were delivered and the food just didn't taste the same. A friend of mine had the same experience. I definitely wouldn't have them deliver again but I really like going & dining there. read more
