I visit this place at least once a week, not inexpensive visits. The last two times there was construction going on during lunch hour. Today as my friend and I sat in the dining area two construction workers came in with ladders to survey a job. They proceeded to cover the fresh sushi display with plastic and carried in a large shelf unit and installed it over the sushi. So much for a pleasant lunch! It was impossible to talk over the drilling and hammering. I asked to talk to the owner. He left me waiting for 20 minutes, I finally went to look for him. After complimenting him on food and staff I expressed my disappointment in the construction going on during our meal. He stood there with a belligerent look on his face, no apologies, no excuses just a rude stare. Apparently losing a good customer is of no concern to this business owner. read more

Honestly, I was not impressed. The sushi was good and the salads were tasty. We tried the lettuce wraps, shrimp & grits, ahi tuner sliders and the hummus and they were all lacking in flavor. My son and I just had dinner at Zest the Sushi was very good but what I am about to tell you is shocking. My son was drinking his water which included ice he stopped after a drink and pulled 3 shards of glass from his mouth. I said to the waiter you got a problem here someone must have broken a glass near the ice cooler and there is glass in your ice machine would be my guess. The waiter apologized, never offered to bring the owner over, or even consider comping our meal. Not sure I will be visiting Zest anytime soon. read more

Saturday night was our first visit to Zest. This place was extremely busy, and had good reason for it. We had a fairly long wait, but we did have a large party to seat. Overall, the food we received was good. The consensus is the sushi is nothing amazing, pricing reasonable, but should not be the primary driver to coming to Zest. The warm baby spinach and mushroom salad was good. Lamb lollipops were fantastic and worth ordering again. Fried calamari is made well, and the sauce paired fits well. The short rib tacos were also very well done. There was a good portion of meat on the tacos too. Chicken lettuce wraps were underwhelming though. Flavors okay, but nothing special about them. They were also messy, and could have had bigger leaves or more leaves to spread out the filling. Creme brulee did not crack, so not great caramelization. Flavors okay on it, but nothing special on the creme brulee. Atmosphere was busy and loud. Good for small groups I would imagine. Prices are on the high end. Food is hit or miss, depending on what you order. It is worth trying again though. read more

The food was very good, although a bit uninspired. The small plates were not authentic Spanish tapas; they were appetizers or smaller portions of entrées, but they were generally well prepared. The beef short rib tapas was very good, but it was basically a smaller portion of an entrée. It was a bit pricey at $15. The pow pow shrimp were very good but, again, nothing you've never had before. Oysters Rockefeller were good, but you couldn't taste the oyster beneath all the spinach and cheese. Short rib tacos were somewhat bland, only meat and cabbage -my dinner companions and I agreed it was missing something. The charred octopus on lentils was good-the octopus was simply prepared and the cooked lentils underneath were good. The best dish we had-the mussels. The broth was excellent, and we really enjoyed it. Our server, Don, was excellent. He knew the menu and the food very well, and he busted his butt to be a good server. As other reviewers have said, the prices are a bit high for tapas, but they are fairly large portions for "tapas." read more

The food was lovely and of great quality. However, we were on our anniversary dinner and as soon as I had finished my entree and my second beer was a fourth of the way through, our waiter harshly vocalized in my ear how crowded it was and made sure to loudly say "y'all need to go." (Keep in mind it we got there at 6:30 and left by 8pm.) As a woman, I have never experienced such disrespect and also a ruined anniversary. We were sitting in the third two top to the right of the bar. I believe our waiters name was David. He is a wonderful waiter but with no respect and appreciation. I am not only embarrassed for even eating food or having a drink of which was supposed to be fun but now I feel as though my money was stolen. Never in my life have I been made to feel so terrible about having a date night. All because he wanted to make money. I will never be returning and I will make this known how terrible of an experience we had. I had dinner with six friends at Zest tonight. I initially had a nice evening, but then I heard yelling and profanity coming from the back of the restaurant. I later learned that it was the owner yelling at one of his servers. Additionally, our server noticed that I heard the yelling and profanity and came to apologize for the owner's behavior which put our server in an uncomfortable position. I will not be going back to Zest because of this incident. There are other options in the area where the owner does not mistreat his employees. read more

Food is great. However tonight I had the WORST service I've ever had possibly anywhere. I was taking my 13 year old daughter out for a "girls night" to chat and eat sushi since that's her favorite. First of all a server told us to sit outside so we sat down. Then the owner came out and told us that we couldn't sit there bc people were waiting. So we got up. Then we waited. No one talked to us. I asked if someone was going to seat us. Finally they did. Then we sat and sat and sat. FIFTEEN minutes later after asking WHO our waiter was our waitress came to our table. To her credit she offered to pay for my first drink. However it was another FIFTEEN MINUTES before it got there. We ordered everything then bc we figured if we didn't it would be another 30mins before we got it...and we were right. In the end we got there at 7:30 and left at 9:30. Three tables around us turned before we ever got our food. It was TERRIBLE. However, a good lesson for my daughter on what is unacceptable. I usually tip at least 20%. Or like last night at the Waffle House I tipped $20 on a $13 bill because that waitress blew this one out of the water. I tipped 5% and almost think that was too much considering my bill was $83 and my service was as sub par as you can get. Won't be going back. I can get the same quality sushi in about 10 different places in Atlanta. read more

I live in Roswell and have been a frequent diner at Zest. I am also in the food business. Today I was served what is called "leftover chicken" like the kind you find in Chinese take out food. I told the waitress I would pay for it, but I couldn't eat it. She never offered a replacement meal or got a manager and she did not take it off the bill. I said I would pay for it because that is what you are supposed to say, BUT a good restaurant offers alternatives. Zest did not. The waitress failed her duty. Zest also has corrupted what was a great menu item: the Lobster roll. It was reminiscent of those in Maine. So, to compete with Ceviche, they decided to put it into a flour burrito. A good chef would never do that. I will not eat at Zest ever again. read more

Zest is really amazing. I had chicken lettuce wraps and truffle oil, parmesan fries.The lettuce wraps are pieces of chicken,waterchestnuts,and red bell peppers. So good!! The lettuce wraps and the fries with a glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc was perfect for a relaxing lunch on a hot day. The service Zest is extremely friendly and professional . Good sushi but a little on the spendy side. Zest is another very small spot so it is generally pretty busy. Many times you can sneak in and grab a spot at the bar when everything else in Roswell requires a 30 minute wait which is nice. 30 year business traveler, 1,000,000 Delta miles, Marriott Platinum level, etc. Have eaten here well over a dozen times since its' opening, and have experienced good food and service .... until last Saturday night! A bit after a half-dozen Gulf Coast oysters on the half shell were presented, I noticed that the average diameter was less than that of a dime, but was hungry, so I ate a few. A few minutes later, when our waitress (gracious young lady) asked if all was well, I commented about the oysters. A minute or so later, the owner was at my table "educating" me on variance in gulf oyster size, and asking if I would like him to take them away. When I said "OK," he, in an accusatory tone, announce that I had already eaten five. Determined to not let this episode ruin our evening, I "let it go," receiving a supportive comment from our neighboring table about the experience with the owner. Apparently, the owner was not able to do the same! A couple minutes later, he returned to our table, and asked that he speak to me in private. Really not thinking much of it, I followed him to the waiter service area. What he told me next, blindsided me, and gave me insight into this little man's character: He said "I don't think I'll be able to deliver anything that's to your satisfaction, so I would like you to close your tab and leave," and followed that with an even more insulting comment. Still determined to not let it ruin our evening, we had a fantastic dinner next door at Cevche! (Our Zest table neighbors visited us at Ceviche, and again express their disbelief over what happened.) This manager at Zest is a disrespectful moron who knows nothing about customer service. After waiting for over an hour, we were seated by the waiter only to be rudely asked to leave by the manager for "jumping the line." When we pointed out that the waiter had seated us, the manager became belligerent and claimed that the waiter was not the one in charge of seating and it was not his problem that we had lost our prized seats at the bar. When we checked the waiting list to verify that we were indeed next to be seated, and saw that we had been passed over not once but twice, the incompetent weasel still did not apologize. When every restaurant/bar on the Roswell strip is packed, this shoddy customer service is completely unacceptable, unwarranted and downright disrespectful! And now we're down the street at Pastis!
