    Dinner. Saturday July 18, 2026
    Tod K.

Saturday July 18, 2026 Happy, they reopened after the renovation. We had to go to the Kaimuki location while they were closed. Kaimuki is good. But, we love Kahala!! Plenty parking downstairs and upstairs. Before, it was nice inside. It's nicer now. Service is good. I just picked up from the NEW food locker and I went up the street to eat it at home. Food is good. If you decide to dine in there. Ambiance is casual and comfortable. Thank you very much to Zippy's for the $25 off online coupon!! I got to buy dinner for the family!! Very much appreciated!! That's why, we always Support local businesses.

Remodel July 2026- Kahala Sushi seating

Zippys Kahala reopened to the public after an extensive 4 month remodeling and repair on July 7, 2026. The main dining room seems more spacious and the lighting is brighter. General layout is about the same just new and nicer touches. The takeout lockers which are already being used by other locations are a welcome addition. The food is what you would expect and to their credit, they are experimenting with their offerings. Because this is their first week, there's bound to be some hiccups. When by to pick up some take out kau kau- everything ok except the turkey noodle soup (which we like) had only a small string sliver of turkey in it. End of the day portion? Not sure what would be a good way of checking but beware when ordering that soup. Parking after 5:30 can be problematic. You might have to play a little bit of musical chairs if you go prime time, especially these early first month or so. All the Kahala Zippys regulars are happy they are back and open. Welcome back to the 'hood Kahala Zippys.

Renovations are finished at Zippy's Kahala. On Waialae Avenue across from Kuono Marketplace. It is a two story building with parking underneath. There is sushi bar and a dining area on the mauka side. Dine-in area is on the makai end. This week also saw the release of digital deals in Zippy's proprietary app. I got the Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, which I customized and subbed with no-bean chili. For $12, it was a solid bargain. Open from 600a till midnight.

Mom likes this location because it's easy to park and take the elevator up. Tried their Japanese food for the first time. 2 item teishoku w tempura and butterfish. Tempura was good. Butterfish has a thick sweet miso glaze that was a little too much

This is my favorite Zippys location. The food is always good. There are so many amazing options. The Korean friend chicken plate with a won ton min is one of my go to orders. Even the pancakes are delicious and fluffy. The staff is so friendly and attentive. I will always come back here.

We were so excited that Zippy's Kahala finally reopened!! Unfortunately I think our expectations were too high for opening day. We went at 5 o'clock when it wasn't too busy. Our waitress was Annette. She took our order, but the coffee TOOK FOREVER!!! I mean I ate my large soup before I got my coffee!! I was debating on canceling my coffee because it was taking so long. I think they had to roast the beans or something. The food took a while also. My french fries weren't fresh. They were OKAY, but they weren't fresh. My fried chicken was good. Our oxtail soup took a while also. When we got it, it was lukewarm AND the choi sum was COLD!! I mean cold like CHILLED!! Not even warm like the oxtail soup. When another table got their oxtail soup, I could see the steam coming from the soup, and I asked the customer if their oxtail soup was hot, and she said it was, but their choi sum was also chilled cold. WTH! So we asked Annette to heat up our oxtail soup and she did. Oxtail soup was good, but the service for the day SUCKED!! I'm assuming it was because they were exhausted being the opening day. When we paid, Annette smiled and apologized to the customer before me for the poor service, but when I went to pay, she gave me a real sour face! WTH!! Hahaha!! I'm local Asian, the customer before me was local white. Go figure. Our bill with tip came out to $75 for 2 people. OUCH!! I think Annette catered to other customers and not us. It was crazy!! I have never been treated like this from a local person....being that I'm local as well. Hahaha!! Next time we go, we will ask for a different table that isn't Annette's. Hahaha!!

This Zippys just completed a major renovation being closed for a few months. They have reopened for about 2 weeks now and I decided a weekday after the lunch rush would be good time for a visit. WRONG! There was about 6 to 7 parties ahead of us at 1:30 pm on a monday. They still have a scan barcode to check in to the table wait list. Trouble is that many patrons walk in and interrupted the hostess seating tables to take their names. On this afternoon, I understood that they only had two servers show up for work. The hostess was seating people but she really had no urgency in doing so. She would stop at other tables and have long conversations all the while the list of waiting diners was growing. After checking in on scan amd waiting 15 minutes, we just left as it was very difficult to watch the inefficient process they had to seat customers. I hope they can improve this situation in the future after this disappointment.

Spotted the BOGO plate app deal and couldn't say no to a free meal! Keiko saimin, regular Teri beef and regular chicken katsu coming to a total of $22 was an absolute steal (especially these days). All the food was hot, fresh and delicious. Service was warm and friendly and loved the refresh of the Kahala store.

Zippy's Kahala is great. Loads of parking on two levels. Lower level is covered and there are stairs and an elevator to get customers upstairs. For a holiday, it was very easy to order snd pick up my breakfast order. I was a little worried I wouldn't find parking. Clearly posted signs for paid and unpaid phone order pick ups. Plenty of staff on standing by to assist customers and answer any questions. The bakery case was well stocked with pastries, cakes and pies. Any sweets needed for the Christmas morning breakfast feast ahead. Everything looked delicious. I was so captivated, I completely forgot to order the gin dui. ‍ The fried rice was so soft and very flavorful and the Portuguese sausage was perfectly cooked. Not burnt and not just "kissed" by the pan. The spam was a bit overdone, and a little crisp which is easy to do when cut thinly. I know to customize my breakfast order next time.

    Turkey plate

I saw a post where this lady mentioned her new favorite menu item was the lemon chicken. I love lemon chicken but it's so hard to find good lemon chicken. I used to love L&L but they kept overcooking the chicken. I had high hopes for Zippy's lemon chicken ($15.50) but was so disappointed. The pieces were fatty and not crispy; it's ok if they decided to make their version a non-crispy version, but this one seemed to be their Korean chicken without sauce. The worse part was the lemon sauce--was like a thick lemon gel cake frosting. I tried to eat the chicken nuggets with bbq sauce instead but the texture didnt work. There's just something amiss about it. None of my family members cared for it either, and it's hard for a chinese family to waste food. Also tried the turkey plate ($19.15). Turkey and gravy tasted okay but the stuffing was just mush. Guess nice not having to chew. Was disappointed in how little turkey there was for the price. May look like a lot, but they were small pieces--like the end or scraps. Also ordered the $9.99 spaghetti plate special which seemed to have only about 2/3 the amount than before. I need to try this order again to see if quantity really did decrease permanently. But on the plus side, tried the $15.95 Wrecking Crew pac which was a fun combo of chili, a chicken, Portuguese sausage, and a fish. This would be an awesome permanent addition to the menu. And as always, love the friendly staff.

    Checking out this nice eatery.

I tried the small Japanese restaurant inside, and it was quite good. The best part is that it stays open very late at night, which is perfect for night owls :-)

    Ube haupia pie
    Dan H.

The chili and saimin are the best. Solid choices for anyone looking for some warm comfort food. The ube haupia pie did not have enough haupia and tasted almost completely like ube but was still overall good. Easy parking, consistent food, slow service, but still keeps me coming back time and time again.

    Zippy's chicken trio
    John N.

This location is great. Dine in always has great service with friendly staff. Today I tried the chicken trio (garlic, fried, katsu). All very good. Maybe the rice a little hard today. But it was okay. Will not hold it against them. Always a go to place. Aloha

I used to come to this one all the time back in the 1980s. I only had fond memories. When we walked in, it had the same old musty smell like the Niu Valley Jack In The Box. Soda area was pretty dirty with lots of spilled soda all over and no employees bother to wipe it down. The Jumbo Jack was SO SMALL!! Barely anything in it!! They also didn't have ketchup!! How odd is that to not have ketchup? Some customer lost his temper and started yelling at the workers and eventually got into it with the manager. He claimed he was waiting for an hour for his food, which I highly doubt, but it was quite entertaining hearing him scream his head off at the manager. "I don't want my food now because you guys will probably spit in it!" He kept saying that over and over. It was pretty funny. Anyway, the place was just as smelly and dirty as the Niu Valley location, and the Jumbo Jack wasn't very "jumbo"! Hahaha!! I doubt we will return to any Jack In The Box establishments because so far 2 out of 2 were lousy!! I don't see much of a future for Jack In The Box. Sorry.

It seems like management knows they're open later than other fast food places and still only staffs the bare minimum... which feels unfair to the employees. Eliza was taking orders, making food, and handling everything with patience and positivity. When we left, there was a long line of at least 8 cars -- all for just two workers to handle. That's kind of crazy. This isn't a complaint about the staff at all -- they're doing an amazing job. If anything, it's a call for management to either hire more people for the night shift or pay these workers more. They're clearly working extremely hard and deserve better support.

I went through the drive-through and the first thing they asked is if I would be using the app to order. That's weird. Why would I use the app to order in the drive-through? I came drive-through to talk to a human being. I asked for a caramel sundae and one for my husband too. The worker tells me my total and I pull forward and pay. I go to the second window. The worker there hands me two paper cups with just ice cream in them. I said, "I'm sorry but I asked for caramel sundaes." The worker said, "This is a plain sundae." What the heck is a plain sundae? A sundae, by definition, is ice cream with a topping on it, usually fudge or chocolate, sometimes strawberry or caramel. A sundae has toppings. I learned that at McDonald's, "plain sundae" is something you can order and it's just a cup of soft serve. In any case, I didn't order a plain sundae, I ordered a caramel sundae. The worker yelled something back to the first person who I had ordered from, then topped the ice creams with some caramel and handed them back to me. At least the price is the same for a "plain sundae" and caramel or chocolate versions, so I didn't have to pay the difference. Also, I gotta say, McDonald's really is practicing shrinkflation, as the last time I got a caramel sundae when it used to be in the plastic cups, it sure seemed like a lot more ice cream and a lot more caramel. This little paper cup of ice cream isn't really worth the price.

(Tookout 04/22/26 WE @ 7:00pm): No raised fingers given at this chicken coop!…read more In my quest to continue exploring the various cuisine scenes as well as other businesses throughout O'ahu's Windward side, specifically the neighborhood of Hawaii Kai (southeast shore of the island), I ventured into Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers as my first time to ever try their food after I've seen them all over the place on the Mainland. I was always down for a juicy succulent piece of fried chicken however it was fed to me. It wasn't the healthiest way to eat chicken, but things fried just tasted better, correct!? Founded in 1996 on the campus of LSU by Todd Graves and named after a friend's Labrador Retriever (Raising Cane), his arduous dream that began in college has since grown into one of the fastest grown restaurant brands in the U.S. Would I raise a thumb's up instead of a middle finger to their tender chicken!? PURCHASE(S) 3pc Chicken Fingers Sandwich ($8.79): This messy two-hander was slipping and sliding all over the place as I tried to keep it together (I failed). Three crispy crunchy thick pieces of chicken between a pillowy soft sweet bun with a smear of Cane sauce and a hint of lettuce, this was a lovely introduction to this brand's food, and I now understood the hype that surrounded it. Aesthetics aside, you could've easily eaten this as fingers and a side of bread, but this large sandwich did the job. My only wish was that it was spicy and came with pickle chips, but it was still ono! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=72&select=sod8F8j7AIUDoK3mQptIUw The Box Combo - 4pc Chicken Fingers, Crinkle-Cut Fries, Texas Toast, Coleslaw, Cane Sauce, 22floz Drink ($12.79): Because of my sandwich, I was able to split this meal into two! Loaded with a little bit of everything, the chicken was just as yummy as my sandwich, there were plenty of spud sticks with a light dusting of seasoning, the toast was a revelation all on its own and would easily order a few more as a snack, the coleslaw lacked flavor (I put some on my sandwich instead), the Cane sauce add a touch of zing but wished it was spicy, and the sweet tea was like I was transported to the South it was so damn good and probably loaded with a ton of sugar. A heck of a meal at a deal! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=72&select=f5GUo39r6DcCdVAVoN-ArA SERVICE I was greeted by a young woman at the front counter where I immediately placed my order, received my cup to fill with my fountain drink of choice, and within five minutes my name was called as we caught each other's eyes while I waited nearby. Everything was good - mahalo! PARKING (FREE; N/A this instance): Located in the outdoor Hawaii Kai Towne Center, there were plenty of spots although I decided to do the 25-minute one-way walk for exercise - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A standard quick-service restaurant layout with a central order counter, a fountain drink machine off to the side, plenty of dining spots in a spacious room, and minimal decorations with some interesting elements such as these ceiling disco balls https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=72&select=Ruk3zzf-dWb0pTPXWIWt6Q (I didn't know if they actually worked). Plenty of natural lighting came in through the front doors and surrounding windows while recessed electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs while pop music played in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I really enjoyed the food at Hawaii Kai's Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers location as my first experience with this brand. High marks for all of the food (however... please add some spice to the chicken seasoning and sauce, and more flavor to the coleslaw), the portions were great, the prices were very reasonable, and the service straightforward. The menu was extremely limited, but the same could be said with In-N-Out. I wished there were some Hawaii-specific menu items. Sure, they were a fast-food chain restaurant, but they started as a local small mom & pop business at one time. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $23.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS
