Not a lot of places are open later, so glad we can always count on Zippy's. We only come for take out. My go-to meal is their famous ZipPac. I love that it includes a bit of everything: fried chicken, fish, spam, teri beef and rice. If I'm feeling extra hungry I like to order an additional piece of fried chicken on the side. The lady proceeds to tell me that 2 of it is the price of the large and 1 is for the small. I shit you not, my jaw dropped! I told her you telling me your large orange juice is about $8?!? I was furious. I went to talk to someone else and this person tells me they only have one size but when I spoke to my waitress, she said there was a large. If I had known beforehand my orange juice alone was the price of a whole ass meal, you'd bet I wouldn't have ordered it. You would think a large would be like a dollar more, not no $4. I'm so happy I found this place! I assumed Zippy's was a fast food burger place. When I walked in the front door I was surprised to find that in addition to a fast food burger joint, it also had a regular restaurant dining room and a sushi bar as well. We chose to sit in the dining room. I told the waiter it was our first visit and asked him for recommendations. He said Zippy's is famous for their chili. They serve it up whichever way you like, normal or with beans. Hell, I think they even have a vegetarian version. I ordered up a bowl of chili and an order of french fries. Yeah, I know I could have just ordered chili fries, but don't like any of my food to touch any of my other food. Look, I'm just gonna tell you the truth: I freaking LOVE Zippy's chili. That's it. On our waiter's recommendation my wife ordered Chicken Long Rice. Neither of us had any idea what it was, having never heard of the stuff. We both loved it! Would definitely get it again. This is the go to Zippy's. Zippy's is a chain but the food and service differs so much by each location. We went to the Zippy's on King street the other night and the food and service were totally different from the Kahala location. King street Zippy's staff is not very friendly and the Korean chicken is full of fatty pieces and the Chile rice is just so so. I know it's a chain and everything should be the same but it really isn't. Our go to when we go here is always the Korean chicken and Chile rice. The chicken at the Kahala location is also crispier which adds to the great flavor of the chicken. So when you are stopping at Zippy's just know they are all not the same. This is coming from someone who loves Zippy's and goes to Zippy's at least 3 times every visit to Oahu. read more

We wanted to do Hawaiian our first full day on the Island. This restaurant appeared on the list. So, we headed out here. Atmosphere: Restaurant has a casual laid back feel to it. Zippy's has its own parking which is definitely a plus (There are couple of different restaurants at the complex?) There is abundant seating (Booth style). Sauces and condiments at the table itself makes life easy. The center section with tables could accommodate large parties. We dined her Friday afternoon and it was our impression that the restaurant was staffed adequately. Service: We were greeted by the hostess as soon as we walked up to the entrance. Interaction with staff from that point on was very friendly. Our order was taken fast. Food arrived fast. The extra side of Furikake we requested also was brought to us fast. Every interaction was with a polite smile. Our waitress (Thelma?) gave us Chocolate Cronuts to go. Sweet! Food: We ordered the following: Kids Pizza $4.90 Zip Pac $12.20 Hamburger Steak $11.35 Side of Furikake $1.15 Small Lilikoi Drink $2.25 Total with Tax and Tips came to $43.35 Zip pac that has Chicken, Fish, Spam and Teri beef is a good option to try out all their meats on the menu. Each meat portion is appropriately sized. All the meats tasted fresh, delicious and surprisingly healthy. Items were served hot with rice. It made for a good combination. As soon as Ian saw the Seaweed in the Zip pac rice, he began attacking it with passion. *Laughs* (+1) Hamburger Steak was also delicious. Mrs. asked for gravy on the side. Gravy was thick and melt in your mouth. Mac & Cheese was light and not too cheesy. (+1) Lilikoi drink almost tasted like lemonade. It was good, not too sweet. Kids Pizza is on a Pita bread. I really enjoyed Zippy's and wish they had one in California. Price, food quality and taste are all fantastic. They offer a surprisingly expansive menu. You can dine in or do take out. We ordered the Korean Fried Chicken rice plate that came with macaroni salad. We also ordered the fried chicken and chili. The sauce for the Korean Fried Chicken was fantastic it tasted like sweet and sour. Fried really well, with a crispy crunch and seasoned well. The chili was great with a little heat. To Chelsea (Hostess) at Kahala Zippys. It was a packed and busy night with only two servers on the floor with a full restaurant. I was seated before this big party and although I was just a party of one, the server never came to take my order and when I got my food, she still didn't check if I needed any thing or just a simple check in. HOWEVER! Chelsea the hostess sat me, she came to check in with me when I was about to walk out, took my order, brought my order and not only checked in with me but every where else and carried on this persons job. Chelsea is the TRUE definition of what Aloha is and went beyond her pay grade to help not just one customer, but all customers. As a lead hostess manager of a busy restaurant in Waikīkī, Chelsea has exceeded all the hostess expectations and this goes to show that all servers should respect their hostess and have gratitude towards them because when a server is busy, the hostess plays a huge part in taking the customers order, making sure their waters are filled and doing what a server should be doing. I relayed the message to their manager this evening on how AMAZING Chelsea is and I gave her my pay for my meal and a tip that should go to her. I'll also be calling in to double check Chelsea got that tip. I hope to see Chelsea as a manager one day. read more

This location is across from Kahala Mall, with plenty of covered parking. The restaurant is on the second floor. This location is one of the two that serves sushi and other Japanese dishes. I ordered the tempura udon, and it came with 2 shrimp tempuras, some veggie tempuras, udon with soup, and what tastes like rice tea. Overall it is good but not as filling as a zip min. I finished my lunch with an apple napple. The Tempura Udon and Zip Min are around the same price. If you want to be full, I would recommend the zip min. Parking on a weekday in the early evening was easy breezy. I love that. The food was as expected and satisfied my stomach. I didn't feel like cooking today :-) This location usually has decent and friendly staff. However, it wasn't the case this time. Worker, Marie, was just plain rude and unfriendly. It made me wonder whether it is really hard to fill entry level positions these day... it felt like Zippy's just took whoever applied for the position without giving any training... Being able to dine in again makes me really appreciate all the additional precautionary measures restaurants take to keep their customers and staff safe during the 'Rona. We came for lunch, did a temperature scan, and the host recorded our name, address, and phone number for contact tracing. That actually added us to the "wait list" and sent me a text saying I was next to be seated. Cool. They've added plexiglass between booths and tables, and maintain physical distancing by staggering seating. Our server showed us the QR code to pull up the menu, but technology can sometimes be strange, and I didn't have the patience to wait for the wheel-of-death to open the menu so we got paper menus. Put in our order and then asked for sweetener for the ice tea, and once the food came, asked for shoyu and Tabasco, both were brought in little ramekins. Zippy's food is always consistent, regardless of if it a special or a regular menu item. Service is almost always on point. I'm glad they are able to reopen some of their dine-in options. read more

I am just disappointed in the quality of the food. Turkey noodle soup didn't have much soup. Also my Teri-beef bun sandwich was missing the lettuce and tomato and barely had any teri sauce or mayo. If you want a good wonton mein, go to Duk Kee. The disappointment was the vegetables...hardly any. And that is the reason i ordered a zipmei ...i wanted the vegetables. The young guy helping us was very professional and friendly. We also dined in a few weeks ago. I don't remember our servers name but she was so welcoming and attentive. I had the Saimin and fried chicken. Maybe I'm biased being from Hawaii but I think their fried chicken is the absolute best. The skin is so crispy, the flavor is perfect, and the meat is juicy.
