I can't believe that I haven't reviewed this Branch of Zippy's we've been here for years Business meetings, Breakfasts , Lunch and dinners. Always consistent food and good service. Quite a large selection of menu items, they have a dine in and fast food counter so you choose which way you want your food. They have a big parking lot if you need to drive in.

Zippy's Makiki is 1 of 2 locations on S King St, with ample parking and a large sit down restaurant section. Half of this location is currently under renovations, therefore looked like it only offers restaurant services from the outside. My friend and I were seated immediately as we walked in. I always default to some variation of their Korean fried chicken, as this is my go-to at Zippy's. The chicken was great, although I miss when it costed $12, as now its easily $20-25 an entree. I think for the price, although its good, you can definitely go elsewhere for better deals. Overall, it can be a bit pricey for plate lunch kind of food but they are convenient in both locations and hours of operation since it is open later than most competitors in that genre of food.

A Hawaii fast food fried chicken place that also serves burgers, sandwiches etc. I tried there sandwich combo with a side. I choose the grilled cheese and saimin noodle soup. Its a good place to go for Hawaii fried chicken and fast food meal options. Price is by far the best for the quality and value. Staff is quick to service and food is good. They have multiple locations around Honolulu.

Came here around midnight for a late night bite with a large group and it was quite busy! Still, we had great service and delicious food. What more can you ask for. Had to get the korean chicken and chili special for $12.99!

    Peace...not too quiet though...LOL!

It was late. Driving back from Kaneohe and hungry. I just wanted something easy and no frills. Zippy's is the place! Friendly greeting, it was going to be a few minutes, and I was given a nice big table. I love eating alone! The Zip Pak looked tempting but I just went with my standard, spaghetti with meat sauce. Oh and a fruit punch of course. The server was friendly and what more did I need? Mahalo Zippy's!

Food was tasty. However when people get seated after we ordered and get their food before us that is upsetting. We ordered soup and a sandwich. They had 4 meals and two brownie ala mode, haupia cake, and another item. Still they left before us because it took too long for them to process our checks....only 2 of us...soup was not too hot - forgotten on the counter...

Food was on point! Their portions restaurant seemed like it was going through some renovations when we went but I didn't mind. The chicken was super yummy and my daughter enjoyed her burger as well. I wish we have Zippy's in NorCal because I will keep coming back for the chicken and the Mac salad!

You can never ever go wrong with Zippy's. After taking a trip to the mainland, I always crave this place. A Mini Chicken Katsu is a gift from above and the service is an even greater blessing. If you need a cozy place for comfort food, look no further since Zippy always has your back :)

Having just moved to Oahu less than a year ago, I really did not understand the hype around Zippy's. I finally got to see for myself when my husband said he wanted to go to Zippy's for his birthday dinner. Well, consider this haole fully converted to the Gospel of Zippariah. Although, I called ahead to put my name down for a table for 7 people, we still had to wait nearly 30 minutes before we got seated. I was surprised at how busy the place was for a Tuesday night. I counted only 3 servers, all of whom did triple duty as host, server, and busboy. Our waitress had the patience of a saint. Even though we had multiple requests for bowls, plates, silverware, drinks, etc. she was quick and super friendly. On our way out, I gave her an extra cash tip and thanked her profusely for taking such good care of our party amidst a very busy dinner rush. I wish I had more cash on me because I would have emptied my wallet to give her a bigger tip. For a diner-style menu, the food was delicious. Even our super picky 3-year old enjoyed her spam musubi and helped her sister finish a bowl of saimin. I love the variety of food and the fusion of Hawaiian, Asian, and American. There's literally something for everybody.

Holy moly! A toothpick in my side salad! I ordered the chicken trio with tossed side salad and no macaroni salad. I opened the salad dressing and drizzled the yummy Asian salad dressing into the salad. I placed the cover back on the container and gave it a shake to distribute the dressing. Upon reopening the container, I looked at it and the dressing seemed well distributed. I sat down to eat the salad and used the fork provided by Zippy's. I placed the fork deep into the salad, took a good amount of salad, and placed the salad in my mouth. Biting down, something went crunch and it was hard. At first I thought. Why is my salad hard? I spit out the salad and observed one very long toothpick!!! The type Zippy's use to place in the clubhouse sandwiches! Yikes! Good thing I bit down on the toothpick horizontally and not vertically! I immediately called Zippy's Makiki and spoke with the Manager Ivan. I informed him of the seriousness of the situation. He understood and took the information down and said he will inform staff and kitchen. The toothpick is used as part of Zippy's kitchen to front process for identifying certain orders per the manager. I opine that no such toothpicks be used! This could've resulted in a horrific injury. How did the toothpick get in the salad? That is the question of the day. Needless to say my dinner was ruined big time. How the food is processed from kitchen to front needs to be addressed. Maybe a fluke? I hope this never happens to anyone else. Please note that the take out section of this Zippy's is being renovated. It's under construction so it's a bit dusty and smaller in size. Side note: The manager offered a replacement chicken trio dinner. Your thoughts?

I haven't been at the Makiki location in awhile. I believe I had some issues with service on the previous visit. Service was fine today though mitigated by ordering via their proprietary app. Zippy's app is very convenient and with fast and fast-casual eateries focused on takeaway...really helpful. I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken ( the only KFC ) Breakfast Plate. I chose the Pordagee sausage for the meat option. It comes with two eggs (over easy), two scoops of rice, and one scoop of mac salad. There are different options to choose from and it is so easy on the app. Filling and tasty...at $13 the KFC Brekkie Plt. is a good value. Fairly busy for a mid-Sunday morning. Parking accessible from Young St. and Beretania St. Lots of stalls.

First thing we ate after landing in Hawaii with friends! This location has a good amount of parking and once inside the restaurant, there is plenty of seating available. There is a bakery inside as well for the goodies they offer! Our server was great, she was friendly, welcoming and took our orders shortly after we sat down and food came out in a timely manner!

#1 TONKATSU 5.0…read more Ginza Bairin is hands down one of the best places to enjoy deliciously prepared tonkatsu (breaded and deep-fried pork cutlet) outside Japan. The original Ginza Bairin opened in Tokyo's Ginza District in 1927 (a review of that location is coming soon)! For the Waikiki location, reservations can be made through its Yelp page, although the restaurant notes that availability is limited. If you don't have a reservation, try going right when they open. The restaurant is divided into two dining rooms: the Tonkatsu Room and the Yoshoku Room. I personally prefer the Tonkatsu Room, as it feels more reminiscent of the traditional eateries we've visited in Japan. The Yoshoku Room focuses more on yoshoku, or Japanese cuisine influenced by Western cooking. One of the best reasons to arrive early is the limited availability of their special Kurobuta (Berkshire) pork. Once it's gone, it's gone for the day! We've tried both the Kurobuta pork and the regular pork loin, and both are amazing. However, the Kurobuta has a higher fat content, making it especially tender and flavorful. With the tonkatsu set, you receive miso soup, rice, shredded cabbage, and pickled daikon, all with unlimited refills. They also provide toasted whole sesame seeds, which you grind yourself in a special bowl before mixing them with their signature tonkatsu sauce. In 2027, Ginza Bairin will celebrate its 100th anniversary since opening its first restaurant in Japan. Longevity means something; it's simply that good!

First it's extremely overpriced and they're trying to seem "upscale" when it's not...food lacked flavor and inconsistent across portions. If you're going to charge almost $50 for some katsu, it's insane no AC is even on inside the restaurant. Servers don't bother checking on you, but will be quick to come and collect the check immediately. They'll also try to upsell you from the very beginning for ridiculous "set menu" upgrades such as for rice and miso lol. That's standard across all Japanese restaurants but it's apparently a "luxury" here. Would not recommend when there's much better quality, flavor, and priced katsu spots elsewhere

We also tried the chicken katsu, which had a light, crisp breading and came with fluffy white rice topped with furikake. The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

It says a lot about a business that follows up to offer opportunities for improved experiences. Again, would visit during a future stay in the area to try more of what they have on the menu! --- Original review: My family and I stopped by around mid-late morning for breakfast. The outdoor seating area is nice, and we were fortunate to get a spot under the shaded tables. We got a Loco Moco to share (mostly to satisfy our toddler's rice craving!). Gravy was great, patty was a little overcooked - but fine, and generally it was a solid dish. Unfortunately, we had to wait 40+ minutes for our order. We might have caught them on a rough day, so overall, would still recommend giving them a try if you have the time and can plan accordingly. I would go back to try other dishes, but perhaps not with a fussy, hungry toddler next time!
