The fish quality is satisfactory for the price, though I've seen better even at similar price points. My main critique lies with the rice: a touch too dense, lacking that texture that defines truly refined nigiri. The temperature was also slightly off, which dulled some of the subtler flavors. It also could've been sauced more thoroughly. That said, I left very full, which is rare for omakase at this tier. The uni was the star of the show. Creamy, sweet, and perfectly fresh. Surprisingly excellent. The non-sushi dishes were fairly creatively conceived, I enjoyed them. The uni rice was memorable, comforting and flavorful but light. The crab hand roll, on the other hand, was forgettable: too large, too warm, and soggy by the time it reached the table. I would actually prefer if it wasn't included in the course. Went for the $75 omakase, which is their top tier right now. Honestly, such a steal for the amount and quality you get. Ambiance is intimate and perfect for date night or for close friends. It started with chawanmushi (steamed egg) topped with roe. Basic but silky and comforting. Then came the seven pieces of sushi. My favorites were the halibut, French sea bass with lemon zest, the otoro with Kaluga caviar, and the Santa Barbara uni with wasabi. Each one was seasoned well. No soy sauce needed. The ginger lemon espuma was a nice palate cleanser in between. We also added an à la carte red snapper with caviar and apple vinaigrette. It had these little gold flakes shaped like cherry blossoms which were very photogenic. I chose the salmon hand roll, which was super fresh and wrapped well. The rice in everything was warm and seasoned just right. Portions felt perfect. Dessert was a blueberry panna cotta with mascarpone, and it blew me away. Light, not too sweet, and super unique. I would honestly come back just for that. Make a reservation if you're going on a weekend. Parking is street only, and it can take a few minutes to find a spot. Go early if you can. Tranquil spot with various omakase options. Came here with my family for an early dinner and made a reservation online beforehand. We opted for the Sushi Bar Omakase for $109 which came with 8 courses (including dessert). A couple of courses had multiple pieces, and we left very full. The blue crab hand roll was my favorite part; it was huge, hot, and the sauce that accompanied it was delicious. The fish was super fresh and the pieces kept coming. It was fun to watch them being prepared right in front of us at the bar (there are table seats as well). Celebrated a friend's birthday here with the sushi bar omakase and sake pairing and we were both thoroughly impressed. The omakase menu really reminded me of some of the omakase I've had around Tokyo. Additionally, all of the fish were buttery soft and fresh while each sake pairing really did complement its respective food. The service was also amazing. We were provided thorough explanations of each dish and sake while receiving excellent service in addition to being able to enjoy pleasant conversations with everyone, including our sushi man Seth. When we mentioned my friend's birthday, everyone included incredibly thoughtful touches. What an amazing experience this was! I have never been to an Omakase & my boyfriend took me for Valentine's Day :') To start off, the restaurant was clean + aesthetically pleasing to the eye. All the workers were super kind & greeted us immediately upon arriving. Once we got seated, we opted in for the Kannazuki Omakase. The Kannazuki Omakase is a 10 course omakase meal -- perfect for me but my boyfriend was still hungry LOL. You can taste the quality in the fish for each dish & it litcherally melts into your mouth. My favorites of the night were the snow crab coquette with yuzu curd, the Uni & Toro sushi pcs, the Uni tofu (topped off with truffle), and the white fish tart. Located in Silverlake, this is one of the best omakase restaurants in Los Angeles. This was recommended by my son who lives in KTown, a short 20 minute drive to Osen. We were celebrating my daughter's birthday. Seated at the sushi counter, we could observe the chef preparing each course. The kitchen looked clean, sanitary and well organized. There were four chefs in the little space but they all knew their duties and weren't bumping into each other. Each plate was delivered in a timely manner and explained with detail. As you can see from the photos, the sushi glistened and was the most freshest, tender buttery smooth. My favorites were the udon made with scallop, the prime grade O-toro with caviar topping, velvety smooth chawanmushi, tofu with truffle shavings, fried crab cake with cream "bubble" . Although I'm not a fan of uni, my dining partners said it was the absolute high-end grade from Hokkaido. They also have a big selection of sake. The special omakase meal is $170 per person and you're served about 15 dishes, plus an amuse bouche and dessert. You can also supplement by adding additional sushi pieces but you really don't have to because the entire experience was quite fulfilling. Honestly, each piece tasted like it was just captured from the ocean. No fishy or metallic aftertaste like you get in some of the lower end omakase restaurants. I think the standard includes sushi only, for $140 you get some small Japanese dishes with more variety. The service was good and attentive. Omakase was pretty good except for 2 dishes which made it not perfect. For one there was a wagyu beef roll that felt a bit chewy for a5 wagyu beef. Second was some chawanmushi with blue cheese - who puts blue cheese in this? Tasted very pungent and strange. Sushi was pretty good but that is easy to do at many high end sushi places. Ambience was nice, nothing special. The restaurant was mostly empty on a Sunday evening at 6 pm. Omakase was good overall, seemed pretty balanced, but again not perfect for $140. I've been wanting to try different omakase places in the LA area for a while now, and stumbled upon Omakase by Ozen online - and I'm glad I came! Reservations were made quickly and easily via Yelp, and I love that I was able to change my reservation time without much of a hassle. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate after I took the MCAT, so we were extremely hungry when we got here. I think this place might have had valet out front, but we opted to just find street parking in the neighborhood for a ~5 minute walk (which worked out afterwards since it let us walk off our food!). The actual restaurant is a very small and quaint place; we sat at a table instead of the bar but I thought the decorations were very cute. Service was very fast and attentive. They handed us a menu as soon as we came in, and we ordered the $130 omakase - which was a pretty good deal for the quality of the food and the whole experience. I do have to say that I was not full after the meal (so my boyfriend and I ended up getting more food afterwards at a different place), but I did enjoy my time here. Definitely worth a try if you're celebrating because of the food and the service, but I personally don't think I'd come back for the omakase. read more

This is a review for their dineLA Nagatsuki Omakase menu! I've heard great praise for their Izakaya location from my brother and he was eager to try their Omakase location. Seeing that they had a special menu, we jumped on the opportunity to dine here. We came right during their 5 PM opening for dinner and we were seated immediately with our reservation from OpenTable. The restaurant didn't get too crowded until we were 2/3's ways done with our meal. At that point we saw the valet being posted outside and the outdoor seating being taken too. We reserved for indoor seating and it was nice to enjoy the AC and the intimate setting. Tatum was our server and she gave a wonderful, detailed description on everything that was served to us for omakase and was very attentive and welcoming. The Nagatsuki Omakase is $140/person and the entire table has to order it. For this omakase experience, we got the: 1) Arajiru Manju: -This is their unagi renkon croquette wrapped in rice paper and placed in an arajiru soup. Wonderful start to our omakase experience. -The soup is nice and thick with the collagen of the fish, super flavorful without being too salty. The croquette, despite being in the soup was immaculately crispy throughout. 2) White Fish Tart with Fig: -This is an assorted raw white fish on top of a puff pastry, topped with yuzu hollandaise, garnished with alyssum flower, micro pea tendrils, and olive oil caviar. -HANDS DOWN THE TABLE'S FAV. -If you've ever watched anime, Shokugeki no Souma aka Food Wars, where they close their eyes and have insane exaggerated reactions and teleport to another dreamscape, this is DEFINITELY a dish that would do that. It was a collective core foodie memory for everyone at our table. -It initially tastes delicious with the yuzu hollandaise sauce, but then you get the freshness of the white fish, then the light crumble of the puff pastry, richness of the olive oil caviar. -Actually a symphony in your mouth the flavors change all throughout that singular bite of the dish and then it ends beautifully on the note of the fig. Sweet and juicy. It's an entire spectrum of so many tastes and textures. -I'll be remembering this dish until the day I perish off the face of the planet. 3) Chawanmushi: -This is a Japanese steamed egg custard with gorgonzola cheese topped with truffle and truffle oil. -I'm used to steam egg water just being water but this tastes divine. Strong truffle taste with the earthy sharpness of the gorgonzola cheese. Egg was super delicate and like a light custard. Yummy! 4) Amadai Matsukasa - Yaki: -This is Tilefish serve with hanaho flower with thickened house dashi sauce. -We love their dashi sauce soup here and the hanaho flowers make the dish look like a stunning art piece. Honestly, like a lake out of a Monet painting. Loved it. 5) Sashimi (3 pieces of chef's premium assortment): -All the flower garnishings are edible, shiso leaf, and a moss type seaweed that is very freshly tasting of the ocean. -The sashimi was, of course, super fresh and high quality. We got the amberjack/kanpachi, toro sashimi, and hotate scallop. 6) Amaebi Kani Tempura: -It's a sweet shrimp with blue crab tempura with coconut espuma and coconut flakes on the side. -Super crispy and yummy. The shrimp was big and juicy and the blue crab added a creaminess to it. I've never even heard of espuma before this dinner, but it added a nice coconut flavor to the tempura. 7) Grilled Tachiuo: -This is grilled beltfish on top of mashi rice with Japanese ginger. -Loved the mushroom in the rice and the super crispiness of the grilled beltfish skin and fluffy meat underneath. 8) Sushi (7 pieces of chef's premium assortment): -Everything we got was fresh, delicious, and unique. My personal fav was the toro tuna with caviar on top. 9) Daily Special Dessert: -They asked us if anyone in the party had allergies and my bro and his friend are allergic to nuts so they got the gluten free strawberry sakura sorbet and I got their White Chocolate Yuzu Semifreddo. -I got to take a small bite of their sorbet and it's nicely fruity and refreshing. There was a piece of candied citrus on top which was SUPER sour, but makes the sorbet super yummy and sweet afterwards. Insane gastronomy right there. -Same thing with their other dessert, the chocolate with pistachios was super salty but it in turn made the vanilla ice cream that is usually light in flavor, much richer and sweeter. Great variety of texture from the chocolate, pistachios, ice cream, and the kinako powder! Delicious. Absolutely lovely dining experience and one of my top for sure. I do not enjoy writing unfavorable reviews. I had been looking forward to coming here for some time... but it just kept getting bumped down the list... maybe it is my 6th sense warning me against it. On the positive side, the staff was lovely and kind. Unfortunately the fish itself did not taste, or smell fresh... particularly culminating in the ikura tasted almost as though it had turned entirely. The rice (at least to my pallet) presented as a bit undercooked against the delicacy of the fish. The flavors were not elevating... some lingered closer to disappointing, or to my dining mates taste... inedible. With heavy heart I have to strongly recommend you do eat here. read more

This was my first omakase experience and man did we do a good job picking a place! I found this place through the DineLA restaurants but wasn't able to attend last month due to covid and was able to reschedule our reservation for November. Every month they release a new menu and i believe it's 3 different types with different price points. We had picked the Hazuki but i think our waitress misheard us and we ended up doing the Uzuki one. We didn't realize it till we got to our last portion but no harm, as were able to try out the Miso Crab Salmon Caviar and the A5 Wagyu Beef. If i had to pick my favorite thing from the whole meal, it has to be the Miso Crab Salmon. It was sooooooo good, my husband ended up asking for one for himself after he saw me eating mine. The miso sauce was just so good and tangy and the crab filling with the salmon was just spot on. All of the sushi's were great and honestly only like 2 really needed like a little more sauce. I'm honestly not super good with the names, but the one with miso and the scallop sushi were definitely my favorite ones! The toro ikura caviar was so refreshing and flavorful. The A5 Wagyu was a little too chard for me on the outside but man it was like super buttery and juicy when you bit into it. Definitely super good! The Chawanmushi was so creamy and smooth, I'm not a huge steamed egg fan but it definitely had me looking it up online today trying to see if i could recreate it. For the desert i will say the matcha cheesecake was not it for me, it was missing something to it. I found that mixing it with the Coconut mango pudding made it taste better. But I'd opt for just the coconut pudding next time and that says a lot considering i don't like coconut hahah. The chef really brings out the natural umami in each ingredient which is why this has definitely been one of my favorite omakase experiences in LA! Before you go here there are a few things you should know. 1. They are known for Omakse. Hence the name. If you don't know what that is. It is a Japanese dining experience that involves placing one's trust in the chef's culinary skills to create a personalized meal. 2. Everything on the menu is mostly fish or seafood and it's mostly raw. 3. This restaurant is on Sunset in LA. It's going to be pricey. When I was here with my family we really enjoyed our experience and food. I could see the detail in the food that was being served. I thought everything made was thoughtful and made with an artistry. It really does start with how you cut the fish. The different ingredients they put together complimented the raw ingredients making it very delicious. I think people take the preparation of it and the thoughtfulness of how they put each dish together for granted. Maybe the fish isn't cooked but putting things together in a delicious elegant way takes a good chef. If you love cooking and love making elaborate dishes or are a true foodie you would appreciate this place. I felt that whoever made my food really cared and their heart in it. They were in the feels that night We didn't get the Omakse this time. We picked from the menu. However we will come back for the Omakse. My favorite thing was the Toro with caviar followed by the salmon and crab miso. I do recommend getting those, but remember they are pricey. Let me talk about the service. I really enjoyed the service here. The waitress we had was okay. She did her job but she didn't have a good vibe and felt like maybe she had something going on with her. Great sushi! I wish I can say it's decent price but it's definitely "reasonable" for omakase. We thoroughly enjoyed the sushi omakase at $95/person. We ordered the hot house sake to share, and also a bottle of the white yuzu beer to try. Wasn't that impressed by either but it went well with the sushi. The best piece was most definitely the toro - it looked so marble, almost like steak! It wasn't that filling so we got an extra ginger eggplant (v) hand roll and a blue crab hand roll. Total (after tax + tip) came out to $400 for a party of 3. Beware of the parking signs on the streets. We got lucky since it's a weekday, but since it's silverlake, you will definitely need to spend some time looking for that! read more
