Came here late night pretty wasted on MLK day. One of the few restaurants open until 2am and they're Korean. It was a no brainer we'd be dining here. Service was nice and attentive. We ordered tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), yukgaejang (beef brisket soup), boiled calamari, mandu-guk (dumpling soup), mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup), and a kiwi soju cocktail. We ordered three soups and didn't order any meat... That's how drunk we were. How could we !! :( My favorite was the yukgaejang! Sooo delicious. 4.5 stars We came on a Friday night at 7:30pm and were seated right away for a party of 4. We made a reservation on Yelp but when we got there, we were told that they don't take reservations, but fortunately we got the last available table. This is located in the Lower Nob Hill area near Union Square so you can come here before or after some shopping. CORN CHEESE ($9) - Corn cheese is always a must-have for me when ordering at a Korean restaurant. I thought it could've been cheesier but maybe I just have a cheese addiction. It was still good though. 4/5 SEAFOOD PANCAKE ($18) - The pancake was bigger than I expected but it was still thin and crispy on the outside. The sauce is good too. 4/5 STIR FRIED RICE CAKE ($15) - The tteokbokki here was a bit soupy and I'm used to a thicker sauce. It also wasn't as flavorful as I would've liked. I wasn't a huge fan of this dish. 2/5 BACON WRAPPED ASPARAGUS SKEWERS ($7) - It is as its name suggests. 4/5 KIMCHI FRIED RICE ($15) - This was one of my favorite dishes. The rice was flavorful with a lot of kimchi flavors and kimchi bits. I couldn't get enough of this! 5/5 BONELESS CHICKEN ($20) - We ordered the soy garlic flavor which was an extra $2. The chicken was very crispy and I kept going for more. I definitely recommend the soy garlic flavor. 5/5 Overall, everything that we ordered was pretty good and it's great that they're also open late. THE. SPOT. I love Zzan so much and it helps that they're always open late so my friends and I have a space to stop by after a night out. The food always hits the spot, I recommend the Spicy Chicken with Cheese and their Creamy Rice Cake! Their seafood pancake is also one of the best i've had, they pile a lot of seafood in it so it's definitely worth it. Even though the restaurant closes late, the workers are always so patient and nice when seating us and taking our order. One of the highlights of my San Francisco trip. I was out walking around when I stumbled upon this gem of a spot near my hotel. As soon as my foot stepped inside a young asian man yelled across the room "how many?" and quickly sat me down and brought over water. I barely had time to look up before the dude was gone, practically teleporting across the restaurant. I never got his name, (it was a pickup order) but the hostess/waiter/magician working that night deserves $50/hr and some stock buybacks. As efficient as any human could possibly be. The moment I knew the food was going to penetrate me deeply and cuddle me after was when I looked around the restaurant and not a single white person was afoot. No one from the staff and no one eating inside. No forks on the tables, just chopsticks and dried sweat from previous white people trying to figure how to use the two pointy wooden things. They had Kpop playing on the wall via a projector. I went with the Kimchi Fried Rice w/Beef, BBQ Spicy Pork, and Cheese Sticks aka their mozzarella sticks. Everything was delicious, the kimchi fried rice in particular was really good and stood out. The spicy bbq pork was good, but the flavor profile was less up my alley so it didn't resonate as much and the mozzarella sticks were mozzarella sticks, can't really go wrong. read more

Very solid Korean late night eats in SF! I came here on a Sunday night around 8:30 PM before Labor Day, and there was plenty of seating. This is my second time here, and the quality of the food is consistent. We ordered: Army Stew - 7/10 Hugeee portions, and it comes with two rice. They bring a mini stove to you, so that the soup can stay hot while eating. The soup broth was good, and my favorite part is always the ramen, spam, and sausage. If you come with a big party, this will definitely be a crowd pleaser. Kimchi Fried Rice - 8/10 Better than I expected! Kimchi fried rice is listed as a menu item in almost every korean place, but Zzan does it well. The beef was marinated and the flavors were savory and addicting. Creamy Rice Cake - 9.5/10 My tried and true of this place. A must order. In Korean we refer this as rosè tteokbokki, and the sauce is soo good. It's slightly sweet, spicy, super creamy and filled with onion and bacon flavor. Rice cakes were also perfectly chewy! A really tasty spot for late night eats! After a concert at the Warfield, I was hungry and looking for late night eats, not expecting much to be open on a Sunday night. I was pleased to find out this place closes late at 2AM! We ordered the deep fried dumplings, fish cake soup, and seafood tteokbokki. I always wanted to try Korean fish cake soup after seeing it in lots of k-dramas. The fish cake skewers are yummy, and the broth is packed with umami flavor. It's a good light meal for 2 people. The seafood tteokbokki was on the sweeter side than spicy, and the rice cakes had a nice chewiness to them. If I come here and order this next time, I would ask to make it more spicier. The service was very attentive and friendly. I would definitely come back here again next time, ZZAN looks like a great place to have soju or beer with classic Korean food. read more

After a night of debauchery and drinking, the last ones standing (five of us after Halloweekend) ventured out for late night noms. The place we initially agreed on had a line around midnight so we went out looking on Yelp and in person snd stumbled upon Zzan. What luck! They seated us right away after checking our vaccine cards. At midnight on a Saturday night (Sunday morning) it was pretty loud and packed! I love the Korean TV playing sometimes with kpop. The big omelette was the highlight of our 5-dish midnight meal. It was sweet and had a nice sauce that wasn't overpowering. I liked the beef rib soup which was simple but complex--I know the chefs spent quite a bit of time cooking it, and I appreciate it! It did not go unnoticed. The rice cake was rich and thick, and the service was very good. Best service I've had in a while! Very fast and attentive and thoughtful and they paid attention to detail. Found this little gem down the street from our hotel. Initially, I was skeptical due to the lack of patrons, but noticed so many orders being picked up. The Galbi was cooked so well. I understand if they were rushed because it was very busy but they had a very cold and unfriendly attitude, barely talked and didn't check up on us at all. I was eager for the food, if the service here was bad then the good reviews must mean the food was amazing. Deeply disappointed once again. We ordered the beef short rib and creamy tteokbokki. Beef short rib was okay, tasted like every other place you could get it. Came with a small bowl of rice. Not much meat because they piled a lot of onions at the bottom of the plate. Creamy tteokbokki I saw from the reviews was good but personally it was way too salty and the flavor was weird, tasted mostly like bacon because that's what they put a lot of. I came to ZZAN on two separate occasions for a late night dinner, but my experience both times were not consistent. Service was somewhat slow both times, but we went during peak night hours which is understandable. My first visit was when I ordered the Galbi and corn cheese (brighter image). Both dishes complemented each other very well with the rice. The corn cheese has a cheese pull to it and was delicious. During my second visit, I ordered the seafood tofu soup, seafood pancake and corn cheese. Upon receiving the corn cheese dish, my party easily looked disappointed. There was no cheese pull and tasted very pasty. We also ordered the marinated beef, but it tasted very chewy and almost like teriyaki beef jerky. Despite this experience, I'd still be open to try other dishes next time. Hopefully it was just an off day, but looking forward to the next time I'm here. read more

Overall had a good experience, we were able to get seated and served immediately on a Tuesday evening. Food was also generally good, but nothing about it was mind blowing. We got the spicy chicken with cheese - I absolutely love this dish and get it at a lot of korean places! I would say the chicken was above average and the spice was very good too, but the cheese fell a little short. The cheese wasn't heated long enough and was more chunky than stretchy and stringy, and seemed more cheddary than what I was expecting The fried chicken was good, very crispy and flavorful! I came here with a pretty big group, but we were able to get seated altogether pretty easily which was really nice. I got the spicy pork with kimchi, ssam, and mango soju cocktail. as a korean, I have had so much spicy pork from so many different places, and I gotta say, this is definitely one of my favorites if not my favorite. Though I love spicy pork, it's frustrating that the spicy pork at most places are mostly fat and there's little actual meat. Not this place tho. All the pork pieces were actually meat and not fat which made me so happy. The seasoning is very tasty and flavorful and the kimchi, onions, jalapeños that it comes w were all nicely cooked. Especially with the ssam, every bite was so damn delicious with all the different textures and flavors. the mango soju cocktail was also good but didn't really taste of alcohol at all, so maybe could've used more soju. all my friends also really enjoyed their food, so choosing to eat here was such a success. also the lady helping us was so kind and sweet!! she even gave us an extra soju cocktail on the house which was such a pleasant surprise. What drew us to ZZAN? Its late hours: open until 1 am! Because we like to eat aftercare attending symphony and ballet, we frequent Kate night restaurants. But post pandemic our favorites changed their hours. We ordered veggie dumplings, soft tofu soup with mushrooms, and tea. They served us a cabbage salad with mildly spicy ranch dressing and a trio of tapas. The service was a bit slow due to their busy take out business. But the potstickers and soup were tasty and satisfying. I liked the egg and a generous bowl of rice served on the side. Service excellent, clearing our table regularly. Maybe it was the late night shenanigan vibes or we were just really hungry, but my friend and I walked into this cozy and elegant restaurant at around 10 pm and it smelled SO GOOD. We were greeted and seated quickly. The person who served us was very genuine with his recommendations and all the employees were very respectful and polite. We ordered a Creamy Rice Cake (added Seafood), an Omelette Rice, and Soy Garlic Boneless Chicken. My favorites were the Creamy Rice Cake and the Boneless Chicken. -4/5: While I enjoyed the Omelette Rice, I wasn't particularly in the mood for the depth of flavors there were to the dish (probably from the sauces). -5/5: The Boneless Chicken hit the spot. It came out first and I couldn't stop eating it. It was like each piece of chicken I bit into was infused thoroughly with soy garlic and it was so juicy -5/5: Creamy Rice Cake was so fragrant. We were stuck between choosing the usual Seafood Rice Cake Dish or the Creamy Rice Cake and thank goodness we ended up going with the creamy one. I'm not sure if it was because we added seafood, but the sauce itself was infused with a rose and seafood flavor and everything was cooked well inside! I was very impressed with this Korean pub. From outside it looks very unassuming but the inside is brightly lit, clean, and has a nice modern feel to it. As for the food, it was pretty good. When I first arrived, I was full from dinner but that didn't stop me from eating more once the food came. The soy garlic glaze for the fried chicken was really good, but I would have liked the chicken itself to be more crispy as it didn't give a very satisfying crunch.
