Their pizza is delicious. I've tried their spicy deep dish and today I'm getting ready to try their spinach deep dish. The crust and the sauce is amazing and the cheese is just the perfect amount (doesn't feel like you're chewing for days). I've tried many deep dish pizzas in SoCal and this one is right up there with Masa of Echo Park and Tony's Little Italy in Placentia. I've also tried their jaguar chicken fries and cranberry oatmeal cookie. Did not disappoint! I forgot to get the name of the employee, but he's helped both times I was there. Pizza is good, but I was really disappointed when I called to place a order on a Friday for pickup was told 30 min, when hubby arrived 30 min later it was still not ready, they were just putting the pizza in the oven..so waited another 30 minutes for pizza. On the plus side: the pizza is good, with a nice amount of cheese and toppings and a tomato-y sauce. The restaurant supports the neighborhood by offering job training, etc, but I don't have details on how it's different from the way any restaurant might offer job training. You get a free cookie for checking in. On the minus side: the location is not super convenient to anything. It's takeout only. It's slow. Actually, I would come back here for deep dish and just order ahead (even though Rance's on 2nd street is better), EXCEPT for the slowness! My favorite all-time deep dish pizza is Lou Malnati's. Like Rance's, Malnati's is more "restaurant" style because you sit down and order with a waitress. Malnati's and Rance's both quote 45 minutes to make a deep dish, but I've been to both during very busy hours and it's taken more like 30 minutes to get my pizza. Ok, so we've set a standard I think, of 45 minutes being on the long side, but still acceptable. At 5000 pies, their board quotes 45-60 minutes. Ok, I'm willing to go somewhere and hang out until my pie's ready (although not anywhere close because of the location, referenced above). At 11:15 (15 minutes after they opened!) with zero customers in sight, either as we were approaching or in the shop or walking out, we placed an order for one deep dish pizza. 45 to 60 minutes. At 60 minutes, they still hadn't called, so I drove over there. As I walked in, they said, "Sorry it'll be another 20 minutes." AND THEN MADE MY PIZZA!!! The 20 minutes passed and they said, "5 more minutes. Sorry, we get really busy around 12." 12!!!???? That is a full 45 minutes AFTER I ordered my pizza! Actually, my pizza should have been done and in my hands before you got busy!! So now, after the 60 and the 20 and the 5 minutes have passed.....I'm still waiting....after 95 minutes, I finally got my pizza. I wish I could support 5000 pies, but I just don't have the patience. read more

I guess there is a breakdown in communication when filling the order because the Asian lady did not put my salted Carmel pie with the other part of my order. I letft and was almost home when something told me to look in the bag. I went back and the Caucasian guy with the red hair said "we were looking for you" I let him know that they forgot my salted Carmel pie. As an almost elite yelper i woukd say alot to like about this place. Food is solid, portions are large and prices are reasonable. Not much space to sit and eat and street parking only. Not exactly a hipster neighborhood either and I think they close by 8 for a reason. Borders industrial hood. Deep dish was the main reason for the 20 minute drive and they make a heavy duty legit Chicago style deep dish. Honestly it is not worth a 5 star rating but yelp doesn't allow half stars so for a place with good people doing good work I am rounding up. Not alot of good deep dish pies in SoCal but this is one of them. Are the better than Rances in long beach? No and the difference is the sauce/tomatoes. I think they cook it down which intensifies the flavors. Not my fav. As an "Almost" Eilte yelper with 6 friends (remember quality over quantity) I approve of this place plus it cost over a third less than Rances and tgat should count for something. Came here not knowing what to expect. The reviews lead me to believe that it was a much larger place than it is, yet I couldn't figure out why I had never seen it despite driving through the area regularly. Point is, the place is pretty small, particularly the customer area which consists of 2 long benches and one small table. Meaning don't plan on eating in. So we order and are surprised by the cheap prices. I comment to my friend that this place would be more in place on Broadway as it has a trendy feel. Don't worry, there were no man buns. Then we find out that this is a social entrepreneur project which makes us feel better about ourselves about spending money here. Got the calzone which was pretty good. A little on the wet side, probably due to the mushrooms and onions. Might benefit from a par cook on the veggies. But crust was nice and the thing was loaded! We also got the chipotle maple glazed wings which were tasty. Deep fried like a wing should be and the sauce was something special. Free sample of the triple chocolate cookie was awesome too. Based on reviews tried this today. Ordered loaded deep dish and thin crust spinach. Loaded was way to spicy to eat. Wonder if they didn't mixup order. Thin crust spinach special was good but cold. It's so hard to give 5 stars but I have to say I'll try anyplace with 4 stars. I consider 4 stars pretty damn good. This is a Solid little hole in the wall. The Deep dish Pizza was excellent, crust was delicious. Maple chipotle wigs are excellent. I usually don't like them breaded but these are good! Peanut butter fried sandwich was good! Hand Pies yumm! We enjoyed this little place. We spent the day at the aquarium and needed a place to eat some appetizers or dessert before we headed back home. I didn't realize it was so small until we arrived but we figured we'd try it anyway. The guy taking orders was very nice. But they were mostly out of all their baked goods, (which actually says a lot). We wanted to try their ice cream sandwiches but it would have taken a while because they needed to bake more cookies. The guy was willingly to bake them but I didn't wanna wait. So we ordered two small pies and chicken fries. The chicken fries were really good and so were the pies. It was grainy and reminded me of cornbread. The toppings along with the sauce and cheese was just entirely toooooo salty! I prefer Union Pizza's deep dish. My mom felt the same way I do. My brother on the other hand loved the pizza and said the crust reminds him of biscuits lol. I wouldn't tell anyone it's nasty don't eat there because that isn't the case. The food here was really good we tried a loaded thing crust pizza. The honey sesame wings or something like that LOL. We tried the different cookies and pie and also the deep dish pizza. It was all very good but I would have to say the deep dish pizza was AMAZING!!! The crust was just right with a fluffy but crispy texture. The sauce was on point with the spices and flavor.
