Escape with me! Follow IG: EscapeMattster ;) Current room count: 40!! Whoooo!! JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE // Grade: A "...Enthusiast's treasure, book it soon!" Today was a big deal for me. Not only was this the 40th milestone, my team was playing for Jumanji, finally, after waiting for months and months since they started teasing from production. Through construction to a delayed debut, I was following as a fan every step of the way. Having seen both the original film and the recent update in theaters, I couldn't wait to live out this movie in the form of an escape room adventure. Let me just re-emphasize--I followed this room's social media closely. I know every single promo pic and the trailer video well. I walked in with a certain level of knowledge already in mind, whether it be for the set, props, puzzles, and possible solutions. Expectations, naturally, ran high. And now, having experienced it and successfully escaped (9 mins left), I have much to share: Pricing is fairly justified. Running at $40 a pop on the weekend, you'd expect superb production value. Well, yes, true, you do get that, but I personally think you are more so paying a premium for branding. This is THE OFFICIAL motion picture experience, and so price is inflated to reflect its authenticity and exclusivity. If you've been to one of newer 60Out games (Hyde & Seek, Orphanage, etc), you'd have a good idea of how gorgeous the Jumanji set is visually, and perhaps another level more. (Just don't expect that extra $10 price gap to produce a miraculously huge difference. The bar is already set quite high in recent efforts!) On the plus side, Jumanji offered more magical, amazing, tech-assisted moments, which if you've seen the trailer, you've already gotten a healthy sampler of. And much like the stampeding animals in Robin Williams's film, more surprises would come rushing your way! Immersion was impeccable. They were able to incorporate the main plot points and devices of the original and the sequel at various steps of the game, and all these moments felt organic and well employed. I especially enjoy the beginning room in which my group were to figure out a way to transport ourselves into the digital jungle within the video game. The entire sequence was fun to play, amazing to witness, and hard to forget. The rest of the game continued this trend with solid endeavors, borrowing elements of team work from Dwayne Johnson's film, making everyone in the team a special and significant contributor to the group's survival, with each of us gaining a specialty power--a bit of RPG, if you will. I recommend bringing 6 (somewhat experienced) players. Having max capacity of 8 would make the space cramped, and cooperation potentially chaotic. At this point, I'd like to clearly state that, *I MOST DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS ROOM*, because the pros definitely outweighed the cons. But here come the cons. The designers tried their absolute hardest for a high-tech escape room; but on the flip side, when this much automation was involved, malfunctions were almost guaranteed. During my game, we ran into multiple instances of tech hiccups. For example, certain steps required us to place props a certain way to unlock the secrets. The sensors, however, required such exact placements that they didn't work. Sometimes, the gm had to prompt us to re-position items; other times, she straight up manually overrode the mechanics from the control room. (This actually happened at least 3 to 4 times.) Either way, it broke the 4th wall and took us temporarily out of our verdant fantasy. In an even stranger occurrence, at one point, a trap door accidentally opened, revealing the storage space behind the set. The door was never meant to unlock, only intended for the staff reset. That was kind of a funny hot mess, lol. Additionally, this game is rated hard, not necessarily because the puzzles were unusually challenging or innovative, but often due to logic leaps that would most likely escape the participants on their first run. This general pattern of expecting players to read the designers' mind inadvertently made finishing within 60 minutes difficult for the average players, rendering the escape rate quite low. To compensate, our game master would periodically give us (unsolicited) comments and gentle nudges along the game to guide us through--which may not be everyone's cup of tea. All in all, again, despite its flaws, THIS IS STILL A MUST-PLAY. I HAD A GREAT TIME. For me, as a supplement to my Jumanji movie experience, this was a godsend. As an escape room, it's still got some work to do. But nothing needs to be perfect to be well loved now, does it? (PS, I would like to express gratitude to my gm, Mel. She helped us take the most badass, movie poster vibe post-game photo I've ever attempted to date. Seriously, check us out, we donned our jungle adventurers costumes, and she's able to capture all that essence in the best angle. I am beyond ecstatic.) read more

Had a blast at 60out Escape Room for my friend's birthday gig. It's definitely a good ice breaker for people who you don't really know; placed in an environment and forced to work together and see how people react under pressure. We (a party of 5, ages 28-32) did Grandma's Master plan and were able to escape. The puzzles were very cool and well built. I enjoyed it very much. Grandma's Master Plan is a 75 minute room as it was considered a harder room. Parking at 60out is tricky as Melrose is a shopping hot spot for lots of Angelinos and tourist. So plan accordingly. I wish there was a way to tally the number of puzzles at the end (like some sort of statistic). But I would understand that if it was written, it might leak and that wouldn't be fun. While doing the puzzle, don't take pictures --only a group picture at the end whether you escape or not. It is a little expensive, but I think the experience is pretty fun - a lot of work is put into the craft! read more

My friends and I did the Mafia and Grandma's Master Plan rooms and had a great time! We had initially planned only to do the Mafia one, but we finished that with 25 minutes to spare (we had wanted to start with an easy one, since this was my friends' first escape room) and we had so much fun that we checked for any immediately available openings on the schedule. We had been told that Grandma's Master Plan was the most difficult room at the location, but we were up for the challenge and were able to complete it with only a couple minutes to spare (although we did receive some useful hints). Our bespectacled game master (Alex, I think?) was very friendly and helpful. And although my friends and I are all new to escape rooms, we felt that the design of the rooms were fantastic - immersive, challenging, and satisfying all at once. I just wish we remembered to ask for pictures afterwards! Street parking in a residential area a couple minutes' walk away was pretty easy to find. read more

First of all, I want to say that my friends and I are frequent escape room players, so we've seen and done quite a few in the past few years. So last night, we came for my birthday and it was a great experience overall for our first time here at 60out. The location is on Melrose Ave., next to different food places (and an ice cream shop right next door) so it's really convenient for a night out. It's only street parking, so it may be tricky to find something depending on which time of day you're arriving. We came at 9:30 on a Saturday evening and there was street parking right in front and we didn't have to pay the meter since it was past 8pm (*tip to save money lol*). My group did the ghost ship, which was super fun! It was labeled as a "hard" escape room, which was true because some things were pretty tricky. Our game master, Cassandra (I hope I got her spelling right haha), was so cool and only gave us hints if we really needed it but definitely didn't give anything away. This escape room was different than others we'd been to because it was about 4ish rooms you had to go through, so that was a challenge in itself. We completed it within 45 mins, which was pretty good for that room! I'd say if you're looking for a challenge, you should try this specific room. The game masters also said that grandma's master plan was also a good, hard one to try. We're definitely coming back to try that one next time! read more

We escaped the Jumanji room with two minutes to spare! This room was super fun and super creative! Although it's listed as a more difficult room to solve, we, a team of eight, managed to beat it somehow! Parking: There is a parking structure near the store where you can park for $10. There's also a free lot behind 60out, but parking is limited. There are two hour parking meters surrounding the entire block! And then there's free parking if you're willing to walk in the residential area behind the building. The Room: Clean, very fun, and immersive! It's also not a requirement to watch either of the Jumanji movies, so no worries with that (But if you do watch it, it makes the room that more fun and gets you into the mood). There are a lot of details in this room that involve the characters you play...so keep that in mind! Puzzles/Clues: There are unlimited clues, so ask away if you get stuck like we did! Otherwise, we all worked well together to help solve the various clues in the room and almost every person had a particular task/clue. The clues and puzzles were very interactive and some required multiple tries to get the right answer, which was frustrating at times. A power outage left one of the puzzles rendered useless, which we didn't know until the game master walked into the room to let us know we won. In the end we all screamed JUMANJI and made our grand escape! read more

We have come with our school class for the past few years. I posted a great review last year, and I have to say, this year is no different. The employees and rooms were amazing! We brought 25 students, along with 11 mentors/teachers and escaped from 6 of their rooms. Seeing some of these kids that were jumping up and down after they were done, brought me so much joy. As always they accomadated our students by doing a behind the scenes tour of a couple of the rooms, including Jumanji. If you are a school, this is a great bonding experience for your students, and allows them to problem solve. Plus, they open around 10:00 so you can make a whole day or half day depending on your needs. Thank you again Wes and Mel for the help and working with our students. These escape rooms are so fun! They have great themes. My friends and I did the Alice in Wonderland one and the Jumanji room. The Jumanji escape room is popular, so book early if you want a specific date. Most promo codes can't be applied towards the Jumanji room. We loved how interactive the rooms were and the props were nice. There were some technical difficulties at times with things not popping out when they were suppose to, but it didn't hinder us too much. The game masters were attentive to that. While we loved both rooms, the Jumanji has been our favorite so far. I will check our more of their escape rooms in the future. A con is that parking around this location can get tricky, so be sure to arrive early to allow yourself plenty of time for parking and traffic. They do have a few designated parking spots in the back and will confirm if there are any open spots available if you call. They are firm on their start time and will start the timer at their stated time even if you are running late, so come on time if you want to use the whole 60 mins to escape the room! read more

Reviewing: Jumanji Game Master: Mikey After doing a good amount of escape room games, I feel like the lustre of escape rooms starts to get diminished and the rush and the adrenaline was not how it was before. It gets harder and harder to rank these escape room games because it seems each new room added by these companies just gets more innovative, more immersive, and 60out's Jumanji room definitely falls into this category for me. Sony made sure that the room was up to their expectations, and it definitely shows. More and more rooms I've been to no longer use traditional locks and the wonder of how things work are some of the things I start to wonder whenever we get something to open. Maybe being the engineer that I am it takes me out of the game because everytime something opens I wonder to myself "How does THAT work?" I mean, I know how a lock and a key works, and how some infrared items work. But some of the ways to unlock openings, doors and items, were to me, absolutely magical. Jumanji has zero traditional rocks. Pretty cool how everything worked. Watching the film definitely helped one appreciate the room more, since you select who you want to be (much like the movie) and that determines the tasks you will be taking on. Of course, you could just give up and ask another person to do it, but where is the fun in that? :) Our group was a group of 7, which was very large. I am part of a Facebook Escape Room Group with a lot of experienced players and they said that it is solidly a 75 minute room game. I can see that for four players they would require that much time. We escaped with less than a minute (or about a minute?) left. There were a few times where we were confused if we had actually solved the puzzle or not (the few times that it might be helpful to open things via lock and key :P Not confusion there!). A few times we also got off track and Mikey would help guide us - sometimes be very direct with his hints. With one of my friends, she had to do one particular task that none of us quite understood, and he basically spelled it out for her when we couldn't get it. Another part we missed seeing and a few of us disagreed on what the wording on another task which Mikey eventually just told us "hey, this is what it means, you missed this." As a result I think these all helped us allowed us escape in time. But at the same time, I think I like being more cryptic with hints. I'm a bit torn. I also like how there was something for everyone to do, or help out, especially given our group size. Our group started out with 4 members which I believe is still the perfect size for any escape room game, but grew due to different life circumstances. This is a good room for large groups. Lastly, I understand why there is no counter in the room, but I always feel less adrenaline rush without a clock in the room. Mikey did check in at every 15 minute mark to tell us how much time we had left, but it's so easy to not really feel that pressure to escape when there isn't a clock counting on top of you over head. It's a good thing and a bad thing I suppose. In the end, I would 100% recommend this room to newbies and oldies alike. The production value is top notch. The puzzles are inventive enough and solvable for anyone, but hard enough to get satisfaction from solving them. Plus, if you like the movie Jumanji, it's a way to "experience" the film. read more

What a great experience this was for our first escape room event. Book this well in advance to secure your room. It was so much fun! There were 11 of us in our group, max players - 6 for each room. Six of us did the Ghostship room and five did the Hangover. The Ghostship was pretty awesome! I can't give the details on it as much as I want to because I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't done it but it was such a great set up, the props and decor are on point. Unfortunately, we did not escape, but we were very close! I highly recommend this place for first timers or others who have not yet experienced an escape room with this company. I will be back! Super fun rooms! We have done most of the rooms at this location and very much appreciate the attention to detail and themes present.

We came back here after they offered us a free escape room since Alice was such a disaster, so we did Grandma's Master Plan room. This one was on par with Alice as far as high quality decor and props, which is really their strength. Problem was the puzzles were a mixed bag as far complexity, interest, and clarity. I would suggest a group of 4 for this room, and it is a medium to hard level of difficulty. MILD SPOILERS: (1) the first part of the room was my favorite because it had the cool tech, quirky/kitschy decor and puzzles and was a fun space. Puzzles were straightforward and where we got stuck we thought it was fair. (2) the second part was a really frustrating one. We got jammed up because we didn't know which clues went with which puzzle and what we needed to do in this room vs the next one. The noise gave me a headache and I came away annoyed when we finally solved what needed to be solved. (3) the third part was overwhelming and we felt like we needed to jailbreak everything because there wasn't clear direction. I think the obstacles that kept us from solving things quickly were fair I guess, but aren't my favorite time wasters. The challenge should be in the mental difficulty. Overall, I didn't feel a sense of accomplishment once we finished so I put this room very middle of the pack for me. A few good puzzles bogged down by frustration and lack of direction. See below for review for Alice in Wonderland which I gave one star (and I stand by that rating): We did the Alice in Wonderland room and it had so many broken parts and finicky unreliable tech that it really failed as an escape room. The cost is higher than most escape rooms so there is no excuse for this room to be in such horrible condition. We loved the concept and if everything worked I would have probably have it as a top 10. I just wish they put as much effort in the tech as they did for the decor. If you still want to do this room I'd say it's medium difficulty and no more than 4 people. The staff here is clearly not escape room-knowledgeable as they didn't give correct clues, don't really know how the rooms work and didn't reset properly. Very slow and unhelpful and distracted. Didn't seem to care that the room was broken. I felt we were ripped off on this one. MILD SPOILERS: - some props were completely broken so we were told to brute force solve it which was so lame - another prop was damaged beyond recognition and the room is badly in need of refurbishments - the audio components cut off erratically - many props are not in good condition and some puzzles don't actually work consistently - the goals of some puzzles were totally unclear and others didn't accurately read the solution read more

Our escape group has been eager to try the Jumanji escape room ever since it was announced near the release of the movie. We finally got our chance recently and I'm glad to say our expectations were met! First of all it's certainly not a requirement to watch the new Jumanji movie before playing this room. But do yourself a favor and watch it anyway, it's fun and gets you into the mood and structure of the game. After that though, you're on your own! Our Game Master Mikey was delightfully helpful and made our experience great! With the crowded space of escape rooms lately I'm constantly surprised at how the quality an production value of most rooms are so very high. I tried the Hangover escape room which is a mobster theme. I really enjoyed the room itself; you can tell they definitely spend a lot of time adding details to make it look realistic. Also, if you're doing the Hangover escape room, go up the stairs to go to the right place rather than the see through rooms on the right hand side. The walls are pretty thin because when we were in our room, we could hear people talking outside and when after we escaped from our room (yay!) the employee told us she could hear us from the other end of the floor. They give you unlimited hints but your entire team has to agree to it. They have an operator who will speak over the intercom who assesses where your team is at the moment and gives you hints on how to solve the next clue. They use a lot of sensors for their escape rooms. It's nice that they're technically up-to-date but one of the cons is that certain things that you have to do to solve clues require exactly what it expects or else it won't work. One example is putting a piece of a puzzle in one direction versus another even though they're symmetrical. I don't want to spoil anything but if you do the Hangover room (or probably all their rooms) make sure you keep this in mind. read more

My girlfriend and I went to three escape rooms here in one week. We tried Alice in Wonderland, Ghost Ship, and Jumanji. All of them were so amazing and immersive. I have to absolutely recommend Alice if you're trying to decide. The production design is so cool you definitely won't be disappointed. Our game master Julia was also extremely helpful and kind. She made the experience super fun and did't hesitate to offer some ambiguous hints that kept us moving when we were stuck. Room played: Grandma's Master Plan Players: half experienced, half inexperienced Escaped in: 33:51 (Second place of all time!) I did this room for my birthday (highly recommend 60out's mailing list, lots of great discounts and free birthday games). One of my favorite escape rooms in terms of sets and narratives and a great one for beginners! The room is fairly linear, so I wouldn't recommend more than 5 people (maybe 6 if everyone is a beginner). Positive things: -staff is incredible (shout out to Nick who was an enthusiastic gamemaster for an extremely late game- no but seriously, probably the best gamemaster I've ever had) -one of the few rooms where the narrative actually came into the puzzles -some outstanding puzzles that stick in your mind afterwards (simple, but all technologically advanced) -great feedback- once you solve a puzzle, you know you're done! -THE SETS. Wow, the sets and props are well made Negative things: -as stated before, fairly linear, but this is okay as long as you don't go with too big a group -some labels were faded, but after pointing it out to the GM, he said he'd take a look and fix it for next game == not really any negative things! read more

Our group of five recently did the Jumanji room here and LOVED the room mechanics! We'd actually done the Mafia room a couple months prior and had booked based on how much we enjoyed the room build. Our gamemaster, Andrew, inspired us to try out two more of their rooms the following day, where our host Mel (and her perfect pup) introduced us to their more scary-themed room, the Ghost Ship. The spooky ambiance was perfect, and after finishing, we followed it up with the biggest and most popular room, Grandma's Master Plan, which Jet introduced us to! This one had the most puzzles, and the most intricate room build. It ended up being one of our surprise favorites overall, and I can definitely see why it's a crowd favorite! Shoutout to the 60out team for designing such fun rooms. Hope we can try out Alice next time we're in the area! read more
