We bought like $80 of fruit: durian $53, 3 cherimoya for about $23 and a guava for like $4. The durian was the most disappointing durian we ever had. It was a fresh durian not frozen, and the fruit had no flavor, and dry. We ate one cherimoya and it had no flavor and bland. My bf called in to inquire about the fruit and they told him that if we brought in the receipt and fruit they would give us a refund. When we brought it in, the cashier lady didn't want to refund and had to call the store manager. The store manager said there was no refund but we told him we were told otherwise. He made a phone call and was able to confirm our refund. We felt like if we spent that much on fruit, it should taste good and fresh. I haven't been to this 99 Ranch location in a long time. They keep it nice and clean, and from the early hours of opening till about 9am, they have hours for the elderly and other members of the community who would need the space to get around first. By the time 9am hits, we regular folks can go in and shop. The security guard at the front does an "ok" job keeping the carts clean and greets us all as we come in. There are plexiglass dividers in place for the small bakery to the right of the store as you enter, and they keep the folks moving. My one critique about it is that they don't have tongs for picking up the bread as they do at Sunmerry or 85 Degrees. The veg aisles are neat and kept clean, and they've started to individually wrap veg so that you're not really touching everything. They got rid of the number wait system at the meat and fish counter, which is kind of problematic because folks will literally jump ahead of you in line and be rather jerky about it--they need to return to the waiting system with numbers so folks can get their items from the meat section in an orderly fashion. Their cash register lines are orderly enough, but if you don't see the marks on the floor it can be rather annoying. Again, folks will jump in front of you if you don't remind them that you're already in line, and they can be kinda terrible, so gird your loins and just be courteous when reminding them that they're being jerks. :) read more

The staff told me they are not helping to put my groceries to the bags I just purchased from them due to Covid-19 policy, while they still did it for me a week ago. The worst, she took care the other customers right away when I still bagging the stuff. The Covid-19 policy is called "we follow every policy if it saves me time and money. Stopped by quickly on Chinese New Year thinking it would be packed and full of people but it was shockingly relatively empty. From my quick trip there, it is definitely on of the cleaner 99 ranch markets I have been to in LA and there was no line for checking out. I just come here because it is one of few locations in the San Gabriel Valley with Taiwanese wheel cakes / Imagawayaki. What makes this location special is that it is the most affordable/worth/cheapest. $1.50 ea + tax or buy 4 get one free. It's pretty good. However, the only two flavors are red bean and cream custard. Both are my favorite and most popular. I usually like 99 Ranch Markets, but this place has a lot of cons vs. pros. The prepared food section- make sure you look at it before buying. I bought sliced hamhock the other day and when I opened it, it was shiny with a GREEN OPALESCENT sheen to it. NOT GOOD. Check your veggies carefully- sometimes they're really good and fresh, but if you get the bagged veggies, just make sure you look because some of them are rotten inside. I've been duped before. The meat section: I've had no problems purchasing meat there- no one was particularly rude- but no one was super nice either- I'm there to get my shit, and go. I wish they had a hot food section with roast duck and roast pork though. I've stood next to people in line at the food and the women working behind the counters sound kind of rude and mean. I haven't encountered them myself, but I'd steer away. Lastly- the line is always SO DAMN LONG. I've gone in before, got a few items and saw the line- and just put all my items back in their spot and left. You win some and you lose some. read more

Pretty typical 99 Ranch - honestly compared to other 99 Ranch's I've been to I would say this one was a bit cleaner. The parking situation is an absolute nightmare however. The parking lot is pretty small and also hard to maneuver, and add to that not that many shady spots. Plenty of restaurants in the area and the food court seems to attract its own clientele as well, so the parking lot gets chaotic at times. Interior is fine - pretty typical of 99 Ranches I've been to, maybe a little older. The selection is adequate and their produce tends to be in good condition. Dropped by here during one of my trips to LA and was a bit in awe on how neatly organized the supermarket was. For one it is bigger than the 99 ranch in San Diego, and more organized and descriptive. There was a bread cafe upon entering the store, the chinese food area for takeout, and to my astonishment even a bank section located across from the cashiers section. Pretty much had the usual stuff a supermarket would have. Cashier was very sweet and kept saying "Thank you" Kind of wish this was the supermarket in San Diego - but the SD one location is a smaller building. Of course as usual its good to grab a jacket since any supermarket with frozen goods has a cold area! Makes me think of the place where I grab eggs\milk from Costco and its freezing! read more

The stuff here is kinda pricey, like it is at Pavilions in the next plaza, but it always has tons of produce, albeit not always fresh or healthy-looking. It's crowded on the weekends (parking lot as well) but they give out samples on the weekends too! Sometimes their sales are worth it, and they're the only place I know that sells good quality Asian pears! I wish they mailed out their ads so we could be updated though.. The neat thing about this place is it has a bakery, a bank, a Lotto vendor, a food vendor, and a locksmith all in one store. The plaza itself includes a travel agency, Ten Ren's tea time, an optometrist, a hot-pot place, a bookstore (with Hello Kitty things!), an herbal shop, and a huge food court! Now for the bad news. The old Chinese manager tried to throw me out and threatened to call the police because I was taking pictures of the food. I told him all about yelp.com. .. offered him my card... showed him the yelp site with 88 other reviews on it and explained that it was a good thing and that I loved his store. A crowd of managers came around m... all older... all with next to zero command of English. They told me to contact the central office for written permission to photograph the food on the shelves. I have been to China and yes, that is the way they do it there (or did in 86 when I toured the them super communist nation, however this is not China, and feel that it is my right to write a review about there store... Fact is demographics of 99 Ranch Shoppers are older. It is apparent also that 99 Ranch is plateauing or declining in all of its market coverage area. Meat, produce and fruits are substandard when compare to other supermarket chains. And given the pandemic and how all other responsible and caring supermarket chains have eliminated the $.10 charge on plastic bags. It is clear top management of 99 Ranch Supermarkets lacks the vision and the compassion to support the shoppers during this difficult time. My sentiment of this market is exactly the same as the previous shopper. I USED to come with my parents. I USED to shop at 99 Ranch market every week. It was my prefer supermarket. Now I go to Trader Joe's and when I have fix for Asian produce or fruits I go to H-Mart. I hope executive management takes this message to heart and make changes necessary to have a sustainable business going forward. I come to this market on occasion to pick up produce, Chinese products (and hard to find ingredients, especially cheaper here than an American market like Ralph's or Von's), premade food items (I like the vegetable buns here) and cookies/ snacks. Aisles are pretty clean and pretty much adequately stocked whenever I come. I think the produce section could use some work though because some of the vegetables I've picked through and purchased have been less than stellar quality. Prices are pretty reasonable for the items that I usually come for. There is a bakery inside this market (Desir Bakery) and I like walking through the little bakery to see what I may want to have for breakfast for a few days or as a snack in between my long work commute and my next job (times are tough and I am one of those people who work more than 1 job). Anyways, if you come here during the weekdays, parking is pretty easy and manageable. But weekends can be a challenge (the market is also in the same plaza with Money Pot, Ten Ren & Duo Pot). read more

Worst place I ever been to lately!! This cashier were scanning fish that had fish juices running out of the bag Scan the pork on the same counter clean it with just a paper towel. Procedure is very disgusting didn't bother to change gloves. Then just kept using the same dirty disgusting paper towel to wipe the counter. I am giving this place 2 1/12 stars based on the following: Pros: 1. Good inventory of food items, however sometimes it is hard to find some items unless you know your way around. 2. Clean market compared to the other Ranch Markets. Cons: 1. Prices are a bit on the high side. For example, Atlantic Salmon was priced $16 per lb but you can get the same thing for a cheaper rate at Monterey Park. 2. The conveyor belt at the checkout stand doesn't hold a lot of your purchase items. Thus customers behind you usually have to wait in the food aisles on a busy day, which causes an inconvenience to other customers trying to grab food from the shelves. 3. Cashiers presume you speak Chinese so they keep speaking to you in Chinese unless you tell them that you don't understand. Hello, we are not living in China here! Overall, I don't like the checkout area, it is quite small and I haven't seen any baggers to help you bag your food. The very last time I was there, the lady was full of attitude. She decided to put crushed peanuts on it first before I decide which items I wanted.
