In my humble opinion, A-Town Diner is the most authentic diner in Atascadero. Their food is good, especially the burgers, fries, shakes, etc. Their counter is fun when you want the full diner experience, and they have lots of tables and booths as well. My son's baseball team had an end of season party in their outdoor area recently, and it worked great for that as well. read more

I've only been here once and that might be my last time. Despite sitting up at the bar when the place was virtually empty, I essentially was ignored the entire time. I witnessed a shift change during my meal but the new crew was no different. Even the manager seemed to have more important things to deal with (again, despite being almost empty). They have good food and great service. My only pet peeve is they actually charge you if you want to add lettuce or tomato to a sandwich. It's like 75 cents each to add! So if I don't want lettuce on by burger your going to reduce my burger by 75 cents? read more

Visited the A-Town diner for both lunch and breakfast a few times now. For breakfast the steak and eggs has been the only thing I've bothered to order because it has been quite good every time. The steak is a solid cut which is well seasoned and actually cooked the medium rare as ordered compared to the smoking piece of well done char that most breakfast chains try and serve you (I'm looking at you Denny's). Lunch features a great selection of burgers which have all been quite tasty. Several of their burgers have multiple patties if you are a big eater like myself. Service is above average with the only complaint being that they can get a bit busy depending on when you come. However, that really has more to do with the A-town diner being one of the few places to get decently priced good tasting food in Atascadero then it does with their staff. Overall, I would recommend the A-town diner for a burger or a casual breakfast to anyone that's looking for something a bit better than the Denny's / IHOP type chain at a comparable price point. read more

Ordered the Philly Cheesesteak. Asked for easy cheese. It came with about a pound of cheese, and the thinnest slice of dry overcooked tri tip ive ever had. Great customer service but the food was blah. I had the Philly cheesesteak but it had no peppers and there was a strange sauce on it. My husband had the hot pastrami, but it was thick cut ( we like super thin) and it was a bit fatty. Fries were good. Kids liked their ice cream, but their burgers were just ok. We always love going and sitting on Atown's patio. Never have had an issue. Sometimes due to being so busy we have had to wait a little longer for food but worth it to us. Love the staff and love being able to bring our dog due to being out on the patio. LOVE the salads too! read more

I'm a long time Virgil's and A-Town Diner fan. we used to come out for Virgil burgers and for breakfast when they (re)opened up the street. Now that they are in this location, they have much more space, but they kept the 50's diner decor. Mid-week breakfast is awesome, the servers are always on point. My only complaint is that they don't have bagels and cream cheese. This county is so bagel poor. They do earn extra points for having waffles, and super extra points for having Tapatio on the table. If you know my reviews, you know I expect every breakfast place in California to offer either Tapatio or Cholula, this was once Mexico for God's sake. Anyway, I've yet to come for dinner, but I hear it's really good. The pies are the BEST. Especially the coconut cream or the peanut butter. (However, full disclosure, I'm biased because my cousin makes the pies for them at her bakery in Templeton). read more

Stumbled on this place by happenstance. I was getting my car washed across the street and planned on going to thai elephant while waiting. It was closed due to the holiday so I walked over to give this place a try. It's a cute little diner and the staff was very Friendly and attentive. I was eating alone and they made me feel very welcome and not at all awkward. I received fast service too even though it was semi busy. I ordered. The carne asada fries and they were delicious! I think it's great that a classic diner serves options like that and does them well. The fries were so good and the asada was moth watering. My only "critique" would be that my avocado came in quarter chuncks. So it was hard to distribute it evenly. And I would have liked a little more cheese and asada on top. But it was a large portion and very satisfying non the less. Loved it. The chocolate milk shake was yummy too! I will definitely be back!! read more

Thanks to Yelp, A-Town Diner was a great find. After a trip down Hwy 1 we were starving and relied on Yelp for suggestions once we were on US101 . The decor is that of a 50's diner with a full menu. The tri-tip, was a new cut of beef for ua that has become a new favorite. The server was attentive and friendly. If we are ever in the area again, A-Town Diner will be a place we will be sure to go. read more

Do not order the muffaletta sandwich. This is a horrible version of the sandwich. I gave this place a second chance because I ordered the chicken fried steak (another bad decision). The service was just as bad. They look like they are very unorganized and glad I didn't order a shake. Tried it again and nothing has changed. The restaurant was empty but for two club sandwiches we waited 30 mins. An employee (not working) was being served food at the bar counting out money to close the draw and gossiping about fellow employees. The servers tend to have their thongs showing, a lot of scabbed up faces and arms (makes me worry about drug abuse) and just don't really put effort into anything. I've just never seen such lazy people. My sandwich was 3/4 iceberg lettuce. Hardly any meat, cheese, and 1 alice avocado. I've tried so hard to love this place. Atascadero needs places where youth can go and socialize, families can see each other while dinning etc. I really feel that's what the deceased owner's vision was. He was an amazing man and we all loved him in high school. I can understand why morale would be down in te restaurant and I have the utmost respect for him and his family. But I feel the best way to honor him would be by stepping your work ethic up and making Atown deli then staple it used to be in Atown. I do love their support of the high school still. read more

Nice local diner. We has the chorizo breakfast burrito, waffle, bacon and eggs and everything was good. Servers were friendly and there was a wait, which is s good sign for Sunday morning. If you're looking for a local diner I would definitely recommend you stop here. read more

Wanted a good old fashioned breakfast of two eggs over medium with corned beef hash and crispy hash browns but I am not that familiar with Atascadero CA. Judging only by the number of cars in the parking lot, I decided to try A-Town Deli. I was not disappointed! Before I hit the freeway up the coast we dropped off to have lunch. Got in just before the lunch peak so the sign said "seat yourself". Took a bit longer for anyone to serve us, until the server came to us and thought we by passed the line to wait to be seated, which we did not. After that I ordered their mesquite sourdough grille chicken sandwich and subbed chili fries and the wife ordered fish and chips. The sandwich is excellent, the grilled chicken was flavorful, stacked high with crisp lettuce, lots of onions and tomato slices. The chili fries was pretty boring. The chili had no body and was skimpy with the amount of fries. The fish and chips was straight forward, nothing spectacular but a good value, they gave four large pieces and lots of fries. Overall good value, popular local Atascadero eatery, Hungry before you hit the long journey, a decent place to stop at. Just make sure you are noticed at lunch time, regardless what the sign says. read more
