Very hip and trendy spot with interesting takes on the traditional sushi roll. Favorite specialty rolls include the Caterpiller (Eel, cream cheese, cucumber, asparagus, avocado, eel sauce and spicy mayo), Kamakaze (Spicy krab stick, avocado, cucumber, masago and crispy fish). After a very disappointing experience with the "new" owners place after BeiMei sold it, we tried it again after several years. What an impressive improvement!! Not sure if they turned the business over again, but much of the original menu has survived intact with a few changes. One of my favorites: ocean spray poke bowl that used to have a variety of fresh seafood now can only have 2 ingredients from a selection list. Still was excellent as were the tuna and salmon nachos!! They have redeemed themselves and are back on our list! Very good service again and delicious food that would make BeiMei proud! read more

One of the better sushi restaurants in the Westchase area. When I was on maternity leave I went on a huge sushi kick, but I didn't review any of the places. Now I remember why I Yelp, so I can remember what I got and what I thought of it. I was perusing the menu and realized there were some rolls I didn't like, but I couldn't remember which! I had to go rogue and get rolls I didn't think I got last time and hope that I made good decisions. We got takeout and ordered a shrimp tempura appetizer, spicy salmon roll, candy cane roll, dragon roll, rainbow roll, and rock and roll. My favorites were the candy cane roll, spicy salmon roll and the rock and roll. The main reason I didn't like the rainbow roll and the dragon roll as much was the krab. They do a krab and mayo mix and it was too heavy with two rolls. Next time I will only choose one roll with krab inside. They're both good individually, but too much combined. I really liked the spicy salmon. They keep the salmon in chunks. I thought the rock and roll was well done as well. The shrimp tempura was tasty, but a bit too greasy for me. Usually I don't get tempura, but I had great tempura at Yoshi Sushi so I wanted to compare. Yoshi Sushi wins hands down in the tempura contest. If you order more than $50 to go you have to pay over the phone. Apparently they've gotten stiffed recently with people ordering and then not picking it up. How bizarre! read more

I would've given at least one more star to this spot, but it took a full hour to get 3 sushi rolls ordered off of the happy hour menu. Yup! That's right. A whole hour! We came in right before happy hour ended, so we took advantage by ordering crab Rangoon- so yummy we added another order soon after. Vegetable spring rolls were hot and super tasty. Both came with a sweet and sour sauce for dipping. Also got a glass of cab (ok, 3 before all was said and done) LOL. House cab was good for me! The sunset roll is AMAZING and so is the fried ice cream (rolled in homemade pound cake!!) They also have great lunch specials and happy hour! Fried wonton chips with tuna and salmon, avocado, a little spice to it but not anything that is overpowering. They were so good. I'm still dreaming of them the next day. Super fresh fish, creamy avocado, the bit of spice and crunchy wonton made it a delicious bite... after bite Shumai was Good too. Probably the most expensive cup of miso soup that I've had which appeared to have been microwaved instead of taken from a fresh batch of soup made. $5 for a cup and only traces of seaweed and small pieces of tofu. It is quaint and seats about 50 guests at capacity. The staff is mostly caucasian which doesn't matter but somehow takes away some of the authenticity of a Japanese themed restaurant. The menu is limited to appetizers and different sushi combinations. The prices are average compared to other sushi restaurants. She then suggested that I might like to upgrade to the homemade wonton soup for only $2. Killer choice! The soup was fabulous! It was only my first time here, but my sense of it all was that if Beimei let's it get as far as your table, it's going to be really good! It's quite clear that she runs the place with a level of pride and engagement that explains why she just recently earned herself a five year anniversary. That is a milestone to be admired in the restaurant business. I can only wish her as many more successful years as she cares to have in this endeavor. She will have earned every one of them! So, let's get down to the heart of the matter. If you are within a 15-20 mile radius of Oldsmar, have a desire to enjoy some quality sushi and more, come to Aki Sushi. I ordered a Mexican and Tampa roll. I thought their prices were a bit high ($16 total) but I was willing to pay a little extra for some good rolls. Unfortunately I left underwhelmed. The tilapia in my Tampa roll was more breading than fish. The shrimp in my Mexican was the same-a lot of breading. For $16 I was expecting more.
