I found this place doing a random search for lunch spots open before noon nearby. I was shocked to even know it existed since I must have walked by it a million times. Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall it's very easy to miss. Which is a shame cause it's really good. I got the Chicken Shawarma (#1). Fresh, large portion size and very tasty. I tried the chicken empanada as well - and wow - so good! Juicy and flavorful with a nice flaky crust. I have to go back and try more of the flavors they offer cause I was blown away. Also, the guy behind the counter was incredibly friendly and helpful. You order at the counter and there were a dozen or so tables - so lots of seating. Even though it isn't table service the staff is so friendly and multiple people came by to see if we were happy with our order. I have no idea how long this place has been open but it feels like some well kept secret. Lot parking. read more

I am loving this place!! The chicken kabob was very juicy and flavorful; the highlight for me was the kibbeh!! Kibbeh was smaller than I am normally use too but the flavor and juiciness of the ground beef with onion was there, the yogurt sauce goes perfectly with the fattiness of the Kibbeh, i just love it!! Loveeeee this place since I love Mediterranean food. Side note: I heard this place was started after splitting with Roro's Chicken. Not sure if that's real though. Anyway, the food is awesome. This place is like Zankou chicken, but better. The food is really good, everything's fresh, prices are great, and the service is incredible. Upon walking in three people greet you hello. They go out of their way to ask you if you need anything else, and they're really attentive if you do ask for something. It's better than the service you receive at a lot of sit down restaurants, and this is a walk up and order situation. You can tell this place is managed well by the way the staff is. I can't sleep so I decided to write reviews on my local hidden gems. This being one of them. I work in Glendale so I eat a lot of kebab. Nothing beats Al basch. Their steak literally melts in your mouth, the chicken is cooked to perfection, the hummus rice and side salad is always fresh. My neighbors told me to get their small swarmha, add fries, no lettuce or tomatoes and they're from NYC so they know shwarma. It was delicious but a lot of carbs for me, I'll stick to the plates. But everything hits the spot. read more

Al Basch is a solid place for Mediterranean. I ordered the chicken shawarma, and they were super accommodating with my modification request (I asked to sub half of the rice for a piece of falafel because I really just wanted to try one)! I think the portion of chicken was good, and while it was flavorful, it was a bit dry. The salad was very fresh and had this really delicious dressing on it. The pita was nice and large and they gave a ton of really good hummus. The garlic sauce was quite nice and very rich, so you don't need much. The falafel was good, and I really loved its donut shape! The actual food is OK. It's not mind blowing, and the chicken shawarma has this 'mass produced' feel and look. Still tastes ok, 7/10. BUT THEIR PETA BREAD IS ****ing TRASH. Thin crispy BS. As a falafel connoisseur, I'm always down to try a spot that proudly makes their own falafel. Instead of the falafel plate alone, however, they have an amazing Veggie Combo Plate that includes hummus, tabouli salad, babaganoush, salad, pickled veggies, AND some falafel! Score for me! The staff was also nice enough to switch out the grape leaves that normally come with the plate for an extra falafel, which was really greatly appreciated. The woman at the register, I wish I had her name, was very friendly and patient with me since it was my first time and answered all of my questions. This place is hollywoods best kept secret. They have the best beef shawarma I've ever had, and you can get it in a sandwich/wrap! the service here was absolutely terrible the Mexican lady that worked at the front had an attitude and literally put tomatoes in my wrap, when I told her specifically to not put tomatoes because I am allergic, but she did anyways, I tossed out my wrap as well after seeing what looked like saliva, or some sort of clear liquid. What a gem! Delicious middle eastern food. They have beef and lamb Kebabs as well not just chicken. As authentic as it gets! Had to order one to go as well for my flight later on. I ordered chicken shawarma plate though forkable. I had requested no rice and all salad. They did a great job and gave me extra salad. Unfortunately, the chicken was very dry. I had to dip it completely in hummus. I spoke to my co workers who also ordered and they said their chicken orders were very dry as well. Local to the neighborhood and had to walk over and give it a try, I was not disappointed! First off, the interior is gorgeous. From the way this place used to look, to how it looks now is incredible. Clean floors, neat tables, 2 tvs with sports on it, and great ambience. Staff was super friendly, everyone seemed upbeat and happy at this restaurant, they were personable and accommodating. Very very fresh kabob and gyro meat options. The price point is a little higher than average but it's still affordable. I Ordered the chicken kebab meal and as you can see from the picture it came with a nice portion of chicken and rice and a side of salad with tasty dressing on it and hummus with two pieces of pita bread on the side. I ordered via phone and called in to pick up my order. It was ready when I arrive 10 minutes later so service is very efficient and fast. read more

So happy I found this spot! It's tucked away but they are offering takout and you can order there. It was super fast service! We ordered the kabobs and a wrap/gyro. I loved my kabobs and the hummus is so tasty! The overall portion and meal was my new favorite Mediterranean spot that isn't crazy expensive. My boyfriend got the wrap and he liked it but it was very small so he was still hungry. I recommend just sticking with their kabobs because the meat is soooo good! read more

This was my second attempt at trying AL Basch. The first time I went around 915pm and was told they are out of chicken and beef shawarma. It's hard to believe they are "out" of their best seller 45 minutes before closing. I noticed they were cleaning the spits where the shawarma would normally be cooking so I'm assuming it's just their way of not having to do extra clean up work after operating hours. I was very eager to try those particular plates so we left disappointed. To avoid the fiasco of the first attempt, we decided to go around 8pm the second time around. We ordered 1 chicken and 1 beef shawarma. The beef was very dry, chewy and lacked seasoning. Even with the dipping sauce, the meat could not be salvaged. The chicken on the other hand was a lot better in flavor but was still dry for my liking. The only thing I enjoyed was the fresh salad and the hummus. I had high expectations for their perfect 5 star rating but it felt short. Maybe it was an off day for them, or perhaps I should avoid going in the late evenings and give it a shot during the day. read more

I was so excited to try this place because of the high ratings but was very disappointed. I ordered the XL Chicken Shawarma sandwich and beef kebab platter. The beef kebab platter was a good portion but a bit pricey. It had good flavor & loved the hummus and salad. The sandwich on the other hand was so sad and does not live up to its name of "XL". It was very thin with barely anything inside. Fries inside were very soggy. The only good thing about it was the flavor the chicken had and it was juicy. First visit December 2019 - can't fault it. Spotlessly clean, including the bathrooms. Terrific service. The food was absolutely bang on - hyper delish. TV's for news info while you're eating. He knew the menu well and made great suggestions. It was actually refreshing. We will come back, most likely with the family. And, When I ordered the steak kabob, a waiter asked me how I wanted the meat cooked, and I requested it well-done but asked him not to over-char it. The meat was juicy but I was left wanting more flavour in both the meat and the buns. I also wish the bottoms were a bit crispier. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try their breakfast menu and other items though. Because peeking at the other tables they offerings looked delicious.

I had the chicken and the next day had to come back for the beef. Not kidding. They have more things I will eventually try. Has a vegetarian menu as well. I'm more of a meat person. Parking was also surprisingly easy since it is located in a larger shopping center with 90 minutes of free validated parking and most places there seemed to validate. I would definitely come back, especially to try one of their lunch chicken plates or check out their happy hour menu.

I came in fully prepared for a disaster after reading the reviews but the food pics looked solid so I figured, why not. First impression? Total chaos. Not the fun, busy kind, just confusing. I stood in line at what looked like a Chipotle-style setup, only to realize (way too late) that you're supposed to pay first and then wait for your number to get called before you even start picking your food. No signs, no heads-up, nothing. After about 14 minutes of waiting for my number to get called, though, things turned around. Staff was actually really friendly and the food? Really good. Big portions too, I've got leftovers lined up for tomorrow, so no complaints there. One thing that stuck with me though...the whole place gave off that "hope they're paying these workers fairly" energy. Could be wrong, but it definitely crossed my mind. So yeah, messy system, solid food. If they fixed the flow or put up a sign saying to pay first, this place would be way better.

But, if you could take a moment longer to seek out Ovation food court offerings, tucked waaaaaay back to the west of the structure, on the 3rd floor, you might be surprised and delighted by the healthier, more affordable, options at Seasoning Alley. I came in around lunchtime and saw 2 - yes, TWO - other people sitting inside and enjoying a quiet lunch of delicious Mediterranean dishes and in-depth conversation. I don't think they were tourists. In fact, this might be the best kept secret of anyone who works or lives in this Hollywood neighborhood. I know if I lived close by, Seasoning Alley would easily be a standard go-to for delicious dishes. I had perused their on-line menu before arriving, so as not to get carried away with my order. I tend to do this with, Greek/Lebanese Mediterranean food - LOVE IT! Online, they showed "Pita Bowls", warm rice and succulent meat served in an actual bowl made of pita bread. I liked the contents, but the pita bread bowl seemed too heavy. I was happy to see, thanks to fellow Yelper Jay T. of Los Angeles, who had just posted the current menu from this location days before, these bowl meals were served in regular bowls. Simple, rice, chicken or beef shawarma, tomatoes and garlic sauce. A generous portion(I split my bowl between lunch and dinner) and VERY tasty! I can never resist a grape leaf wrap and these dolmas are SO GOOD! I really appreciate that I can buy them individually. Four did me fine. But - OH! - the MUTABAL!!!!! Ah - MAH - ZING! Perfect balance of grilled eggplant smokiness, fresh garlic, tahini, lebni and lemon. I had every intention of JUST getting the 8oz, but boy was I glad I changed my mind and went with the 16oz for $2 more. I was surprised to find four whole pita breads in my to go bag, so I was a happy, roasted eggplant dippin', dolma eating fool for a couple of days! But here's a tip for the budget and health-minded: they offer a side gyro, a la carte, for just $5! Add a couple of dolma for $1.25 each and you'll be satisfied and satiated for about $8! This is quality food, made fresh! Healthy eating that won't cost an arm OR a leg! Seasoning Alley is absolutely on my radar now. Cheers! "CC"
