The host stand is completely overwhelmed with trying to fit in more tables than are available. The entire point of having a reservation is being seated at or close to the time that you reserved. This is fairly straightforward. Waiting 40 minutes past your reservation is completely unacceptable. If they need to make more money than just raise your prices and seat less customers. Instead they shit all over everyone by making them wait then rushing the table service in a frenetic fashion. I will never go back to this place. I don't care how great their food is. read more

Food, service and it's never felt Dallas "stuffy", always a down to earth, old money vibe. We went for restaurant week and it was delicious. The short rib was on point and the calamari was flavorful and perfect. I don't normally like coconut cream pie but a recommendation from our server and I was blown away. Our server, I think Antonio was his name, was the best. He was so sweet, attentive and funny. It definitely felt like a team effort and family in there. Although, Al Biernat's is known as a charming upscale steak house with an amazing Somm, curated wine selection, for me, it should also be known as a restaurant/bar that knows how to treat their late night clientele. The option to stay, and enjoy a cozy neighborhood bar where cocktails, and smiles keep flowing long after the kitchen closes, with no rush to leave is harder to find than one would think; so, Al Biernat's commitment to clients like myself is much appreciated. When me and my bf first visited Al's last year for a late Valentine's Day dinner, we both knew that we wanted to come back to enjoy it as much as we did the first time. From the hospitality to the food it was literally a 5/5 experience for us. This year we came a few days after Valentine's Day, granted it was still busy for the late-goers like us that weren't able to go for Valentine's Day. So naturally we expected it to be packed. We arrived on time and waited to be seated about 20 minutes past our planned reservations, okay fine. Finally seated, got some wine, our waiter was lovely. Fast forward to when the appetizers came, we had the beef Wellington bites and the smoked salmon appetizer that came with crackers and capers and other toppings. The Wellington bites were overcooked and SO chewy, which was such a disappointment because I loved them the first time. The other appetizer tasted just okay, warm but okay. I asked for my steak to be medium but it came out very charred and dry medium well. It had been another 20-30 mins of waiting so I didn't want to cause our waiter stress, so I asked for it to go at the end. But the sides were good and our waiter was very sweet and accommodating. My boyfriend had the lobster and steak ramen and it sounded better than it looked. I enjoyed the flavor of the noodles, it just didn't have much broth in it. The customer service here is what really saved us from vowing to never come back. But for our valentines experience it was a disappointment. We wanted to wait to leave a review after a while had passed, so it didn't deter folks from trying this place in general, just maybe not for holidays where everything is busy and rushed. read more

You would think for a restaurant that you'd be spending a good $100 for your meal that everything that enters your mouth as you sit would be top tier but no. This is a little late but better late then never. I truly mean all 5 stars! My wife and I were here on April 29th for our 10yr wedding anniversary and was given a nice quiet corner booth to ourselves. Our waiter Mark was I think the best waiter I have ever had anywhere. I'd seriously return just to sit in Mark's area no joke. He was so well informed on all aspects of drinks and food there. Let's get to the good stuff (food). The Mrs had a Filet Mignon that was worth more the the menu price. I went with the Bison Filet that was easily the best Filet I have ever had! The bbq/habanero dipping sauce that came with mine was spot on perfect for it. Let me end with this. It's now a little over two weeks later and I'm still bragging about the amazing anniversary dinner experience my wife and I had here. If we are ever in the Dallas area again we both already agreed to stop in again for sure. They have a lunch, brunch, and dinner menu I went for dinner and it was a hopping place. I started my meal with an appetizer and got the tempura battered prawns which featured whole heads of shrimp and got three altogether. Their main courses are anything from steaks to seafood. I ordered the Chilean sea bass and tried their filet mignon. Their sides are served family style and got potatoes au gratin and wild boar bolognese. The Chilean Seabass was my absolute favorite item I had on the menu it melted in your mouth. It is served with a lobster risotto and it pairs so well. This is the best fish filet I have ever had. The food is so good you wont want to leave any of it on the table. They also have an extensive dessert menu. I ordered the peanut butter chocolate banana cream pie which featured a butterfinger gelato. This was amazing! The pairing of the peanut butter, whipped cream, and bananas paired so well and will leave you wanting more. The vibe was great you could tell there were all kinds of people here. Families celebrating birthdays, groups of friends, and couples going out for a romantic night. If you are in Dallas this is an absolute must to check out. The place was busy and crowded. No social distancing or masks. It was noisy and loud, so if you are the kind of person who likes quiet steak house restaurants, this is not your place. The host was friendly, and we got a nice table. Our waiter was prompt and very friendly. Food is why I'm giving this place three stars. We got the chopped salad which was oK like a regular salad, nothing special. We asked for bread and butter, which came cold and was not fresh. Then we had the NY Steak temp not warm but tasted good and cooked to the right temperature. Sides mac cheese which was good, mash potato was YUmMy, but the Brussel sprouts were CHEWY; never in my lifetime, I ever had Brussel sprouts chewy like this. read more

My first dining experience since this pandemic has raged its virus on our world. With underlining health issues, venturing outside in public with the masses is simply something I cannot do on a regular basis. And I am fine being at home safe and sound. My father was in town last month for a family memorial. With my $150 belated birthday gift card in hand, I made dinner reservations on Open Table, which I strongly recommend. It is a pretty easy process through their website or app. My chosen time and date were readily available, which was great. It was both of our first time at this fine dining Highland Park restaurant. My pops lives a few states away and I wanted to share a nice dinner together. Pulling into their rather small valet parking lot off Oak Lawn Avenue. We were almost rammed by a reckless rideshare driver who veered his car right in front of us at the parking lot entrance. Really dude!! Can we at least get a decent meal before you crash into our car. My goodness. Anyways, stay to the right and drive around the tightly packed expensive cars dotting the pavement. A few feet from the front door is the shiny black painted Valet stand and attendants. Swap your keys for one of their tickets. The front entrance is about six feet to the left of the Valet. Hang on to the railing as your head down three or four angled steps. Upon opening their main front door, their circular warmly lite bar greets you upon arrival. A few steps to the left will be their hostess. They confirmed our reservation and birthday celebration. People sometimes mistake my dad for my date, they had that look in their eye's. So I affirmed them of our relations and walked to our table. We were seated at a very quiet and comfortable wall booth, who doesn't love a roomy, luxurious spot for dining. They had installed thick plexiglass in between the booths, which was great. We wore our masks in and once we sat down and settled in, we removed them to enjoy our elegant dinner. Our evening started with a glass of wine each, my dad had a Chardonnay and I ordered a Pinot Noir. The first course was a warmed crab cake with horseradish, whole grain mustard, and tomato jam. The kitchen placed each crab cake on our own plate, which I love. And the appetizer was superb. My tummy was majorily rumbling, I purposely skipped lunch to make room for a big dinner, so starting with a light protein hit the right note. One miss: there was no lemon brought to our table, nor fresh cracked pepper offered. Our server Tito was nice, but his attention to detail was off this evening. Next, we split their classic east coast Wedge Salad. Oh the crispy lettuce and tang of blue cheese and crispy bacon were divine. We had to again ask for fresh cracked pepper. Their salad portions are significant, so I recommend sharing in order to enjoy a dessert later in the evening. My dad ordered the Chilean Seabass with Lobster Risotto. Momma mia. Oh yeah. It really is the best buttery fish ever to enjoy. Indeedy. Believe it or not, I was craving Pot Roast, but sadly they only offer that dish for lunch. So with my red wine, I ordered the Double Cut Colorado Lamb Chops with Parmesan Risotto. Our meals came out in a timely manner, but sadly we were not set up with the proper dinner utensils. Service was off, but it was nothing that couldn't be easily fixed. My dad LOVED his Seabass, and I liked my Lamb, but I really should of ordered the Seabass too. Food envy. My dad cleaned his plate in no time, I almost thought he was going to lick that plate clean, but he didn't, thank goodness. For dessert, we were treated to a scrumptious piece of Coconut Cream Pie.....OH OH OH YEAH!!! It was someone's birthday and dessert is an indulgent must. And it rang all the sugar, texture, temperature taste bells for sure. My goodness. No more food after all that. We were stuffed. Happily. Thankfully. Feeling blessed and happy to spend time together and get out of the house for a special occasion. This original Dallas location of Al Biernat's is easy to get to, with a second north spot in Richardson. Their food is amazing and fairly priced for the portions. The only downside to this place is that it's kind of dark inside and maybe the bartender for that day wasn't really on it because the drinks weren't that great either but my waiter was super accommodating. Service. I believe the waiters name was Lantree? He was great! He checked in with us every few minute, when the food arrived he asked us if we liked it. He noticed I didn't like my drink and got me a new one. We all joked around with each other. Nice guy I hope he is recognized by the company for his talent and character. 22 ounce ribeye steak. There was fat which I like, this steak literally melted in my mouth. I didn't even need a side I barely ate that beach potato. Everyone at the table loved it as well. Mac & cheese lobster. I am personally not a fan of creamy mac & cheese I like something that is baked a little bit more throughout. However, that plate was cleaned by the person who ordered it and everyone else liked it as well. Had dinner here tonight with a friend and enjoyed my experience. Service was great. We had dirty martinis to start and mine was great with the perfect temperature! Chilled perfectly and great blue cheese stuffed olives. We ordered the portobello mushroom and goat cheese with toast for an appetizer and it was okay in my opinion. Wasn't the biggest fan. Not enough toasted bread and a bit soggy. For dinner, I ventured to try the stir fry vegan option and very pleasantly surprised they had quite a bit of vegetarian and vegan options. I felt at home as a vegetarian considering it's predominately a steak and seafood restaurant. The stir fry dish was highly recommended by our server and came out very hot and was delicious and had tofu "chicken" along with lots of fresh veggies. Was a bit on the greasier side but still yummy and tasty. I had some to take home as the portion was large. Our reservation was at 5pm and overall not too many patrons. Overall, Covid safe and they had good social distancing practices along with plexiglass between all the booth tables. All the servers wore masks and gloves but I noticed a couple of the guests were not wearing masks walking to the restroom. We had a large party, and when we found out that our outdoor seating reservation might be rained out, they proactively found space for us inside, even on a busy Mother's Day/graduation weekend. Service was excellent. Shoutout to our server, Jordan, who was tremendous. Great balance of being attentive but giving us space to enjoy our meal. Food was delicious. Not just the steak, but the fish, appetizers, and drinks were awesome. Don't love the valet parking situation, but they did a good enough job of being efficient with guests waiting for cars. Over the past 5 years, I have traveled to Dallas Metroplex rather frequently. In that time, I tried visiting many of the top rated steakhouses. It's Dallas. Mind you, so many are great. But my Al Biernat's experience is right at the top of the list. As for setting, we chose to sit outside. Some reviews I'd read mentioned indoors being a little hip and very noisy. We walked through the entire restaurant and were thankful to have listened to such advice. The inside was happening for sure, but it must be challenging to carry on a good conversation. Our outside table was nice, quiet enough, and able to see the patrons coming and going. People dressed nicely and some came in groups via party busses. For food, we started with a seafood platter to share, which was outstanding (calamari, large shrimp, and crab cakes) and pre-dinner drinks, which were excellent. For dinner, we both got the Wagyu NY Strip based on the server's recommendation after discussing all the steaks. Both of us agreed it was quite honestly the best steak ever, cooked to perfection. We accompanied the steaks with mashed potatoes and asparagus to share. They also have a tremendous wine list. We tried a cabernet new to us after discussing it with our server, and also a sommelier. It was a fin3 choice. For dessert, we split a delicious coconut cake. The service throughout the evening was very attentive but not pushy and provided wonderful suggestions. read more
