This place used to have excellent management. The younger husband and wife were true professionals and amazing baristas. The coffee they made was also very consistent. Once they left the customer service changed a lot. Some are kind and friendly. One of the managers, can't remember his name Christian? Jonathan? He's the taller skinny Asian guy. He became incredibly rude and aggressive when I simply wanted to add an items that of course I was going to pay for. He said: "Abide by the menu"! Very rude. He then boasted about how they're opening 2 other locations and etc. in such a grandiose tone. Wow! This guy is clueless when it comes to being humble, kind and providing basic customer service. He should take notes from the previous management. He's also highly passive aggressive. He's done various gestures, after the aforementioned conversation, to show his aggression. Definitely not fit to be in a customer service business let alone a manager. He doesn't know how and he certainly does not set a good example. The coffee and food are good. I used to go here often. I was a regular customer, but not with that low quality customer service and a hostile manager who is unprofessional and rude. I've also seen an employee come out of the restroom without washing hands and go straight to making coffee. I was standing close to the door as there was a line. This employee definitely did not wash hands after flushing. You could hear it easily. For $8 you would think your coffee is made with safe sanitary practices. read more

It's been a long while since I've come across a cafe that also has an adjourning work space. Mostly because as I've come to discover, not many cities outside of Los Angeles has this kind of style of coffee shops. Usually, they are small and everyone's vying for space. Alchemist is in this smaller plaza across from Moodaepo. Parking here is a bit of a nightmare because the parking lot is tiny and at a certain time, valet comes in. I live walking distance from here so it's become my spot for some pick-me-up drinks. Their Spanish latte is one of my favorite things to order, although like many other things today, the price is eye watering. I've also gotten their vanilla and honey lattes, both more affordable. I'm not a coffee purist so what I like in my coffees are sugar and Alchemist delivers. It's never too sweet, just right. They also offer alternative milks. So far, I've not worked in their adjourning space but every time I've come, it's been full of people pecking away on their laptops. read more

I have begun a new segment. "Try a new cafe, when you're too lazy to make your own coffee" So here we are. Came to alchemist on a friend recommendation. So glad we chose to come here. It's very big, they're still not doing inside dining but you can tell that once they do, they have enough space to accommodate. Staff was very friendly and helped us with questions we had. We came a little later in the day so most of their baked goods were gone. But!! Nonetheless, we came for drinks right. I got the mss as lavender matcha latte with almond milk and the bf got the lavender latte with almond milk. Both were delicious. Plenty of parking in the plaza it's located in. They also have a bench right outside where we sat for a little bit. We'll come back earlier in the morning because the baked goods sounded so good based on the names. read more

The parking situation here, like most places in LA, kind of sucks. It's valet-only in the parking lot ($3), and there's some metered street parking nearby. There's pastries and a food menu if you are hungry. But let's get down to the real reason why you're here: the coffee! I tried the Spanish Latte and the Tiramisu. But were excellent, super smooth, delicious, not too sweet, and NOT milky or sour. I really enjoyed both and would 100% come back if I was in the area. It's hard to say which one is better so I think it would come down to personal preferences and what mood you're in. They do have milk alternatives and I got oat milk in the Spanish Latte and it was perfect. The interior is really cool, there's so many cool little details from the stand that holds the menu to the lighting fixtures to the hand sanitizer bottle. There's actually surprisingly quite a bit of seating and wall sockets for charging if you need to work/study but it's not super quiet. A really nice place to chat with friends. Theres a water stand and extra sweeteners and extra utensils/napkins. A merch shelf with coffee supplies and copies of the cafe's namesake book for sale is next to the restroom entrance. Coming from long beach area and this was our first time! The place was not hard to find! We came on a Monday so it was not crowded. Off the bat, I wanted to try the tiramisu latte! Murdered it! Could not put it down. Little bit of bitter and sweetness and had like powdered dark chocolate i think? Not sure but delicious! Must try! Coffee shop was very cute! Great coffee, great service, great vibe. I come here as often as I can with my partner in the mornings to pick up the usual mocha or flat white and it never disappoints. I would also recommend the alchemy shake if you need a sugar pick me up in the middle of the day. I'm not a big fan of pastries so I have not tried them but one of my coworkers swears but them. The ambiance is quiet and most everyone there is studying, on their computers, or reading. Parking Can be tricky after the morning rush so plan for that. One of the better coffee shops I've been to. Matcha Forest was not bitter or weak, so you could definitely taste the matcha flavor. Most coffee shops I've been to advertise matcha lattes but it's really milk with a drop of weak matcha. The espresso was also not bitter or weak. The cream top may be too sweet for others, but I thought it was fine. Overall, pretty happy with the drinks. Ample space, tables, and chairs if you're looking for a study spot. One of my favorite spots I go to for good coffee. I've been coming here regularly for a good while. I've tried many different lattes here and they've been consistently good. The service is always great from everyone I've seen here and they are quick with the orders as well. They also have a good selection of pastries that I sometimes get. The chicken panini sandwich was a good option for lunch! The crème brûlée iced coffee was goood, between sweet and strong! The tiramisu iced coffee was good but more on the chocolatey coffee side. There's plenty of tables with outlets nearby, I worked there for more than 3 hours--their WiFi is strong! The music was a little loud but nothing headphones can't fix. Valet parking for $3! Lots of seating (couldn't see if there were outlets) and the three of us snagged a spot by the window. I had the lavender milk tea (hot) and also tried the hibiscus lemonade. Good coffee, surprisingly good food for a coffee shop, incredible amount of outlets. Good for small group conversations and people who need a seat and desk to get work done. I'll definitely be returning when I'm in Ktown. I ordered the iced Americano (2 shots to a Reg, 4 shots to a L). Really good price for 4 shots, and beans taste ground quite fresh. Pleasant espresso taste. I also had the Misugaru latte which was DELICIOUS. Really nice flavor blend though kind of sweet. Vegan friendly as it comes with oat milk. Looks like it might be a new or seasonal drink, though I hope they keep it around because it's really good. Chicken pesto sandwich surprised me because I don't expect cafes that serve coffee and food to be good at both. The chicken was really nice and tender, and the added arugula in the sandwich gave it a good unique flavor. Bread is not overpowering (actually quite thin), but filling. Also comes with a side salad with cheese in it. Plenty of seating and outlets have extension cords. Bathroom is clean and spacious. They have metal utensils for food and complimentary cold water also. When you're done with plates / for here cups, you can bring them to the basin on the left of the counter, closer to the bathroom. This is the perfect coffee shop if you like your coffee tasting like a dessert. The specialty coffee drinks are so good and you can't really can't go wrong with your selection. I got a tiramisu coffee which was SO delicious, but I honestly couldn't taste any of the espresso because of all the sweet milk. If you're looking for a spot to study on a Sat afternoon, I suggest coming early because the place was PACKED with people working in groups or solo on their laptops. I went on a fairly hot day and the A/C was just a littttle weak given how many people were in there. Staff was really friendly! Looking forward to trying something different during my next stop here. Amazing coffee spot with great specialty drink menu (both caffeinated or non caffeinated)!! The tiramisu latte was so delicious; you can ask for half sweetness if you don't like sweet drinks. I tried each layer of cocoa powder, cream, coffee, and milk before mixing the drink. Will recommend doing that to get the different flavors. They have a variety of breakfast pastries and dessert pastries on display. We got the chocolate croissant and herb + toma danish both were really good. We also got the burrata and prosciutto toast it was so so so good. They have also gluten free options for pastries. The space is really cute, have a lot of seating, and good for both studying and for hanging out with friends. I saw a few people studying with their laptops.
