In the mood for a good sandwich? All About the Bread is a fantastic option. This place reminds me of Bay Cities in Santa Monica, just on Melrose. Parking is a mess...there are only a handful of spots in front of the restaurant and the lot in the back is always full. I'd suggest going into the neighborhood and parking there. Service is a bit slow. I went around dinner time and it wasn't really crowded at all. It took about 15 minutes to receive my sandwich after I placed my order. The water fountain wasn't even working either. Apparently it's always broken? I got a regular size of the Godfather ($7.50) with the works (Godmother at Bay Cities). Wow!!! Everything about the sandwich was great. It was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. What a perfection combination. I asked for spicy and there is a definite kick to the sandwich. Definitely a quality sandwich. Now that I've discovered this place, I might frequent this place for lunch. This place was recommended to me by a local and I am glad I was able to get food here. This is a solid sandwich spot, and you can clearly tell the people that run this place know what they're doing. I don't eat meat, so I got the caprese sandwich and it surpassed my expectations. It's fresh and tasty! My friend wanted to order a sandwich with burrata but also add chicken and the employee expertly advised him that would not be ideal as it would melt the cheese into a consistency that was not appropriate for the sandwich. Heard from a friend that this place had the best sandwiches and when I realized we were going to be in the area around lunchtime on Saturday, he insisted on going. I was game. Located in a little strip mall with other interesting restaurants. Parking: there's a few spots up front, but there's a lot in back that the first hour is free. Heard the Meatball was the best, so that's what we both ordered. You place your order and they call your name when its done. (They should probably get first name and last initial, because as an odd coincidence, there were 4 guys with the same name. haha!) The place doesn't have that many tables and its a hodge podge collection of different table types. There were a few tables outside, but we opted to sit inside. (FYI, very popular with men because when I walked in, there was only 1 other woman.) They don't serve alcohol, but we grabbed a couple of soft drinks. The meatball? Awesome. I would say its the best meatball sandwich I've had in LA. Flavorful meatball, flavorful sauce and the bread was perfect (crispy, but not too hard). I love that they give you extra sauce on the side so that the bread doesn't get soggy and you can pour extra on. It was so good, that its the type of place you'll crave and go back. Friend was craving a sandwich and another friend recommended this place to us. Cute logo, but interior design-wise it's pretty sparse. The sandwiches are bomb, though! Both of us were loving our orders--hers was a turkey club, and mine was a barrata cheese. I personally loved the bread, and how it was both crispy and then chewy afterwards. Craving for some carbs for lunch so my sister and I decided to hit up a sandwich joint which was known for their bread and their name says it all. When we arrived, the line was fairy long and time staking. A single counter took orders of the sandwich and picked up sandwiches and side menus. The menu was a bit confusing because there weren't any prices mentioned next to their selections. One positive thing I noticed right away was the cleanness of the restaurant. It was also very spacious. When our sandwiches arrived, there was a confusion between my sandwich and someone else's sandwich. The worker called someone's name, which I did not hear, but he kept looking at me. So I rushed over to pick it up. The receipt said "Works with no pickle." Strange, but how was i supposed to know if works included the pickle. As we were about to take our first bite, we were told that it was not our sandwich. The Godfather sandwich with Works and Hot Pepper we ordered was delicious!!! There was a distinctive taste about the bread when chewed separately. But when eaten with all other selections like the veggie, dressings, and meat, it is difficult to distinguish the unique taste of the bread. Overall sandwich was great! Definitely worth coming back. Their side dishes were good too. We ordered tomatoes and mozzarella. And artichoke salad. Make sure to try these. It pleased my pallet. :) OMG they have NEW COKE MACHINE with over 100 flavors! This was the most exciting part of our food venture. I've seen few of these on facebook photos but I have never encountered one until today. They have innovative flavors that I have never heard of, such as Peach Sprite, Grape Coke, flavored Dasani water. Super cool!! One thing they could improve on is the formation of the line and adding prices on their menu. I think there are small flaws in their operations because you get in line to order your food and you get in another line to pay for meal and drinks. I see it a bit redundant. Overall, this place gets three-stars not for their food, because I thought the food was good and moderate pricing, but for the cause of confusion and long lines. read more

A couple of hours after attending an event in town and reminiscing around the area, I thought I was done with LA for the night until I noticed the signage in the corner of my eye as I was driving along Melrose. Intrigued, I decided that maybe I wasn't completely full yet and turned around, lucky to find a parking spot right in front of the store. Though most people have raved about the Godfather, but my sandwich of choice involves turkey by default, so I ordered the "House Sandwich" or Signature Turkey. There weren't a lot of people in, so it didn't take long for the food to be ready. Unwrapping it was like opening a holiday gift since it's double sealed with different layers of paper. What revealed itself was the neatest sub I've ever seen prepared--no ingredients falling or dripping out. And the bread, oh the bread was so good. The bite was extra crunchy and a wonderful introduction into the rest...which was a little underwhelming and didn't blow me away. It was a good sandwich, but for its size, the price seemed a little steep. For me, All About the Bread is true to its name. The bread is amazing, but perhaps that in itself affects my perception that the other ingredients taste inferior in quality. read more

Fresh bread with a great snap and crunch on your first bite. This is a good deli sandwhich spot to go to. If you like Bay Cities deli on the Westside, you would most likely enjoy trying this place out. I tried the godfather and also the burrata sandwhich with prosciutto. Both were very good. Bread stood on it's own that it didn't fall apart. There was not that much prosciutto that was added in our burrata sammy for the amount of price you add for an added meat. Parking is very hard to find here. Inside, it's clean and organized. They sent have many varieties in terms of chips with only 2 brands to choose from. This place gets very busy especially with their called-in/to-go orders that it hinders the service provided to those who come in. Something different they have is their "Chicago peppers." Not bad, but not one of the best sandwiches. + for not being a soggy/wet sandwich by the time I got home. Wife thought I had picked up Jersey Mikes when she took a bite into the signature. Still a good option for a sandwich spot though. Hot Pastrami Sandwich: The flown from east coast pastrami is delicious, there just needs to be more of it. Sandwich construction needs to be a little tighter. Meet is not evenly distributed, a few too many banana peppers for how much meat is on there. And no Swiss cheese?! Both tasted even better with my Blackboards Eats deal. If you're into sodas there is a retro ultra modern machine which has something like 100 variations of sodas. Nothing special, just all the regular brands owned by Coca Cola. Parking here is a bit of a pain as the front lot is tiny and awkward to get in and out of. My go to sandwich is the godfather & the pastrami sandwich. I love getting the works on my god father. I enjoy how the top of the best has a nice crunch & the bread being soft inside. I used to think that this place was really good (but not great), but over time, All About the Bread has become my favorite Italian-style sandwich (probably tied with Bay Cities or Cavaretta's, but I'm not driving to Santa Monica every time the hankering for Salami hits). So what's changed over time? Let me put it this way- every good sandwich place didn't actually invent that sandwich. AATB carbon copies some of the best ones in town, puts those sandwiches on their own outstanding bread, and sometimes tweaks them in ways that make them better. Also the potato salad is probably the best potato salad in town, and there is literally nothing that compares. My favorite sandwich at AATB is the Milano Salami. I noticed it pop up on the menu a while back, and immediately thought to myself that it was basically a copy of the Salami Sammo at Larchmont Cheese & Wine. Larchmont is far and they don't deliver, so after several lazy Sunday lunches with my beloved Milano Salami from AATB, I went back to Larchmont, and couldn't help notice the paltry amount of Salami they give you, and that their bread seemed... dry? whereas All About the Bread stuffs that thing with salami and their bread is chewy and doesn't dry out your mouth or cut it up with too much crustiness. If I could make any suggestions or requests, I'd suggest they take a stab at making the porcetta-based sandwhiches from All' Antico Vinaio (in Florence). They had a pop-up shop for a weekend with at Mozzaplex with lines around the block, and I'm confident that All About The Bread could bring Porcetta to LA like nobody's business. read more

It's a sandwich shop, and it makes great sandwiches, with bread as advertised. But that isn't why I'm writing this review. I'm writing it because the All About the Bread employees are OUTSTANDING. I'm a picky eater, I won't lie. I order the turkey club without lettuce, tomato, or guacamole. I asked the gentleman at the counter to confirm. He and the two employees making sandwiches actually opened up my sandwich, then decided that they should make a new one, since it had taken me 45 minutes to get there from downtown. They went above and beyond and were exceedingly polite. Such old school manners make this more than an excellent sandwich shop. read more

Worst customer service. I asked for pickles which should have already been on the sandwich and the older Hispanic guy at the register said 2.75 because I had to pay for the container and lid. I said that the description of the sandwich already said it had pickles and if it was missing it then i shouldn't be charged. He shrugged his shoulders, and gave attitude. Bread stayed crunchy the entire time. Had the hot pastrami sandwich. Would definitely go back and try the rest of their menu.

Did a take out order for burrata and caprese sandwiches. The caprese sandwich was good. The bread reminded me of bay cities only slightly more on the crunchier and drier side. Still a good sandwich that I would choose over any other sandwich places nearby. The burrata cheese wasn't burrata cheese which I was slightly disappointed by. I dislike bell peppers so I had to take that out and I ended up adding more sun dried tomatoes and balsamic glaze. If you aren't near bay cities this is definitely an alternative place to go. read more

If I could give a negative star I would! First thing first let me address the food. Standard sandwich shop no bells and whistles hard working people in a clean fast paced restaurant. The ingredients are fresh, simple, and well portioned. Nothing was memorable but for a quick bite it will do the job { Jersey Mike's sandwiches have more soul}. Soooooooooo for the reason I gave this place one star literally they are thieves. I ordered a large sandwich that came to about 14 bucks and some change, im thinking thats not bad. The clerk ask if i would like a receipt I decline as I do usually. No thoughts about it I go about my afternoon and head back to my office to get into this sandwich. I check my account several hours later to discovery the clerk deducted and additional 5 dollars from my account. Why would you still 1/3 of my meals cost. I tell you I will never ever go there again this is criminal activity. If I would have dined in I would have tipped but this is inexcusable thievery.
